I have been here on numerous occasions. The staff is always friendly and the food is usually always good. Some small things to work on. We have had a couple off occurrences of when we buy just bagels, getting the wrong bagels in the bag. Could be the cashier entering the wrong bagel in the system, could be the worker grabbing the wrong bagel. The service on a weekend is SUPER slow. I understand that the system can get overworked, but sometimes the wait can be painful. I don't fully understand the set up. It was a new space, so to put a register where you walk in, but always close it off seems odd to me. The line can get backed up at the donut station pretty quickly as the space is small. In terms of the food, I think the quality is top notch. I love the bagels as well as the various bagel sandwiches my family and I have tried. I think in time all the small things will work out. Good bagels are something I look forward to every time I come to NJ. We usually go to the other bagel place in Madison, but my brother suggested we check out this new place. While the food was decent, the wait time of almost 30! minutes for a sandwich and egg & cheese on a bagel is atrocious. Three people standing around telling customers that "they're working on it right now" (they, presumably being the kitchen?) is not good business practice. Also of note - no fresh brewed ice tea here. We went around the corner to the other place to get our supply of bagels to bring home. I recommend you do the same when you're in the mood for a good bagel. read more

This is a terrible place. We went at noon on a Sunday. No table service . after placing our order we were told it was gonna take 20 minutes for a breakfast sandwich. I was looking forward to having another bagel option in Madison, but the bagels are very similar to Bagel Chateau. I'm a fan of doughy bagels..and these bagels are small and flat. It just comes to preference of which types of bagels you like and this isn't the one I prefer. As for prices, I felt like the bagel sandwiches are on the more pricey side. DO NOT GET A CUBAN SANDWICH at Madison Bagel. It was a weird sandwich and a huge disappointment. The sandwich was made with ONE VERY THICK piece of ham which was awful to bite into and the pork looked and tasted like scraps. Not shredded pork but more like little crumbly chunks mostly dried out. Not exactly sure what the bread was but it was a square with no crust that was toasted and looked like a thick piece of white bread although I don't think it was. Madison Bagel you can do better. I know there are latin folks who work there and maybe even own the place (i honestly dont know who the owner is) and they know a tasty cuban sandwich. I will say I have had a cuban sandwich here before and it was pretty good. Seemed like today corners were cut and the staff improvised....the result was VERY BAD. Food is decent but CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRENDOUS. The Management of this place really needs to step it up, I've never seen a bagel place run so terribly. When you call to place an order, the girls that answer sound like they don't even know where they are, they don't repeat the order back to you (so you have no idea if they even comprehended what you said) and then they ask for your name and hang up the phone, no info on how long it will be or how much it costs. THEN When you get there to pick up your order after 20 minutes you still have to wait in line to tell the register employee you placed an order for pick up. The wait time when you walk in to order is also TERRIBLE. They have one line at the register- so you wait 10 minutes just to place your order and pay and then another 10-15 to wait for it to be prepared. Maybe they should re evaluate their business plan and have one guy taking orders at the counter and giving you a ticket to then go pay, so atleast you get your order in. AND DONT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING! We once ordered their turkey sandwich to instead be giving a BLT with CREAMCHEESE ? read more

I have been here 3 times since they opened. The first time I came in the lady behind the counter told me they had the best bagels around. I normally get my bagels from TFAB but am open-minded to different takes on a bagel.So what can I say about this place? The bagels are decent, not the best around, a little small and thin for a NJ bagel which seems strange since they are not cheap and flour wouldn't be a large cost for them you wouldn't think. The everything bagel was a bit salty because the bagel itself was so thin that it threw the inside to everything crust ratio off. The coffee is also mediocre. You can get something better at Drip around the corner. Theirs is about on par with QuickChek. Again, a shame because slightly better coffee wouldn't cost that much. A small coffee and a bagel with butter cost me 5 bucks. A little steep for what you are getting, but most of the clientele in Madison probably doesn't care much about a dollar or so overcharge. So if you are in town, try them out, your tastes may be different, but I wouldn't go out of the way. read more

Two orders spaced a few months apart, both incorrect. The first was missing ingredients but I shrugged that off when the real issue was completely under seasoned chicken. We all know it's pretty much impossible to salt a cutlet that's already been breaded and fried. Then today I ordered a "meat and egg on a bagel". It's important to note that I ordered on doordash so that means there was a printed copy of my exact order from the moment they received it. I selected bacon (the entire reason I wanted the sandwich), egg over medium, added cheddar cheese, and chose a jalapeño cheese bagel. The bagel was correct, everything else was wrong. I got pork roll, a scrambled egg, and American cheese. I didn't write a review the first time because it was the earlier days of covid and I knew places were trying hard to stay on top of things but honestly it's a bagel shop. They have a standard bagel shop menu with the same options everyone else does so it seems like it should be easier to just confirm everyone get the right thing. read more

We have tried to enjoy the new bagel place in Madison. Our first try we asked for olive cream cheese. The man behind the counter said "In 40 years we have never carried that and we never will!" Ohhhhkay. Not an odd thing to ask for but whatever. Second trip we saw donuts in the window. They have a choose your own donut topping area and my son was so excited to try it. We went inside and asked for donuts and the girl behind the counter said "we threw them away, we close in a half hour and we want to clean up". Ohhhhkay. We went back a day later and my son got a vanilla bacon marshmallow donut that he loved. My other son got a chocolate frosted with sprinkles. The chocolate was watery AND gloopy. He didn't eat it. Today we were wandering around Madison and my youngest wanted a bagel. We went in and asked for olive cream cheese (they finally put it on the menu!). We left and he took a bite of it and spit it out. I tried a bite and almost gagged. It was rotten and moldy. We brought it back to the shop and the manager (we think) came and said "What? You want another or your money back?" We said neither but she walked away so we waited. Fast forward 10 minutes and a teenaged girl comes over and throws $6 at my 8 year old and says "Here!" And skulks away. We have voiced our issues via fb messenger with whomever answers for their page and have been offered bagels for the rude comment, donuts for the second issue and this time they said "the cream cheese was made yesterday. Sorry you had an issue with it!" While I appreciated the gestures of free donuts/bagels (neither of which we accepted-I want what I pay for to be what I pay for and don't complain for free food or to just be a jerk). We have left the era of the customer is always right and now have teenage kids serving subpar food, rudely. If you want a good vanilla bacon (pray they have bacon ready or else the girl making the donut will huff 'really? Bacon? Ugh I have to go get some' marshmallow donut this is the place to go. The bagels are NOT New Jersey bagels. They are your run of the mill bagels you can get anywhere in the world. Only a small step above the ones that come in a bag from the grocery store. They used too much egg on the sandwich and undercooked the Taylor ham. It wasn't terrible but if you come here you shouldn't be expecting a good New Jersey bagel experience. read more
