    Clucking Awesome Sandwich
    James F.

While visiting Madison, NJ last week, I heard a lot of good things about Madison Bagel Café; especially their bagel sandwiches. The staff were super nice and helpful, the Wi-Fi was free, and the entire restaurant was super clean and welcoming. They had a great assortment of bagels ranging from the classics like everything and sesame bagels to more artisanal flavors like jalapeño flavor and blueberry. My sandwich was absolutely delicious was CLUCKING AWESOME (seriously - that's the name) which is a Crispy tried chickes, Pepper jack, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle honey vinaigrette on a toasted everything bagel. No complaints from the peanut gallery here. I also love the fact that they provide free coffee refills. And truth be told, the prices were much more reasonable than I thought it would be for Madison - as it tends to be a little bougie (in a good way). Overall, this was a win-win experience. Yum! Either you have screwed up on my bagel twice in a row or you've changed your everything bagel recipe for the worst. Why does my everything bagel have oats on it?

I was working in New Jersey today and didn't get to eat breakfast first thing. Took a ride with my co-worker to Waverly place in Madison, NJ, and looked for a bagel spot when we came across Madison bagels. I got a hamburger with 2 hashbrowns, Chipotle mayo, ketchup, bacon, and egg. It was really good. They have a list of sandwiches and salads on the menu. But that hamburger stuck out to me. The place is very spacious and clean. Service was very nice, and I was served shortly after my order was placed. If I'm ever here again, I'll come back and try something new. The bagels are fresh here, by the way.

One of the best blt's, besides my mom's! Has all the fixings and not dry at all. I work in town so I've never eaten there but the space looks nice. I definitely would like to try more of the menu. I need to find out what people are recommending! Thank you so much!

As a newcomer, it took a bit for me to realize that there was more than just bagels and schmear, but once I found the menus I was rewarded with my everything bagel with egg, cheese and yummy thick-cut bacon.

Madison Bagel Cafe is a no-frills bagel and sandwich shop offering a tasty selection of bagels and traditional brunch cuisine including breakfast sandwiches and burritos, scrambled egg bowls, deli sandwiches or grilled paninis, and salads in a very casual and family-friendly ambiance. Madison Bagel Cafe's menu features a wide variety of traditional and innovative varieties of bagels including plain, egg, poppy, sesame, onion, garlic, salt, multi-grain, pumpernickel, , cinnamon raisin, blueberry, jalapeño cheddar, sundried tomato, spinach, chocolate chip, cheddar, harvest vegetable, cranberry, and French toast. My dining companion and I recently stopped in for a quick lunch while passing through the area on a recent Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the variety of options on the menu. While most diners seemed to be ordering iterations of breakfast sandwiches, we opted for more traditional lunch selections. I ordered the Lawyer's Special sandwich ($8.50), comprised of roasted turkey breast, tasty freshly-cooked thick-sliced bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, served on a toasted everything bagel. My dining companion opted for the Greek Salad ($8), served with romaine and spring mix, feta cheese, red onions, greek olives, tomatoes, and pepperoncini peppers, and added grilled chicken (+ $4). Both of us were happy with our selections - made-to-order with high quality, fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, dining area isn't ideal for a quiet and peaceful meal, as the open seating area and the loud, animated conversations of the many young families with young children that frequent Madison Bagel Cafe for lunch reverberated across the open, airy space and concrete floor making it challenging to have a private conversation with my dining companion sitting just across from me without raising my voice to an uncomfortable level given the nature of our conversation. All in all, a tasty, filling, and reasonably-priced meal. We'd definitely stop back next time we're in the area - even though the dining experience was akin to eating in an elementary school cafeteria.

As a gal who grew up in New Jersey, and more specifically the town home to NJ's best bagel (Google it and you'll see), I've quite the critical tongue when it comes to bagels. As a Madisonian, I was hopeful to find a bagel shop that had bagels that landed somewhere in the realm of the bagels I grew up with - and holy cream cheese, did Madison Bagel Café deliver! The variety of bagels is both mouth-watering and jaw-dropping. My go-to is an Egg bagel and boom - MBC's got a great one. Their bagels are the perfect combination of doughy with a bit of exterior crunch, light but also heavy - to my fellow bagel connoisseurs, you know what I mean. Outside of the bagels, MBC has an incredible menu of breakfast sandwiches, breakfast platters, and regular lunch sandwiches. The breakfast platters are borderline otherworldly - each platter offers the eater just about 2-servings-worth of absolutely delicious eggs, meat, and hash browns, with you choice of bagel on the side too. Can you go wrong with eggs, meat, hash browns, AND a bagel? Definitely not! Their lunch sandwiches are divine - truly divine. Elevated but also classic, featuring many homemade aioli and mayos, fresh meats and cheeses - I would LOVE one right now! Lastly, I'd be remiss not to mention the charming, modern farmhouse chic ambiance going on in MBC. A+++!

While recovering from surgery I decided to order a breakfast sandwich. I searched DoorDash and this place came up. I wanted a meat that was low in fat. I google pastrami and found out it was. So I ordered their PEC - not to be confused with potato egg and cheese but rather pastrami egg and cheese. The pastrami was cooked perfectly and not crispy at all. And it was very lean with no fat. I also ordered it on a gluten-free bun. The bun was soft and did not break apart when eaten. I ordered a hash brown on the side. It was one of the first that was not oily at all. And than I ordered a cake donut made to order. I had no idea they sold cake donuts. Everything I ordered was excellent. Will definitely order again from them. I have already recommended this place to others. You should try if in the area. It's well worth it.

The worst bagel for $4.74 ever seen in my life. Ultra skimpy spread of veggie cream cheese barely covering the bagel. A big rip off.
    Joseph V.

If you like a very skimpy spread of cream cheese this is the place. $5 for a bagel and $.25 of light veggie cream cheese. Total rip off.

A week ago I tried Bagel Chateau and I am convinced that he sold me yesterday's bagel and they did not respond to my review (they are dead to me!) This week I tried Madison Bagel and again I bought 2 poppy seed bagels. The service was pleasant and efficient. The bagel was pretty damn good and it was fresh (can't believe I have to state that fact when buying on a Sunday morning WTF) There were so many poppy seeds (on both sides) that I just bought property in Afghanistan and started a poppy farm. Bottom line- I took the 2 bagels home ... smeared plugra butter between the halves and inhaled both. Really good! Thank you Madison Bagel!

Today I learned there can be too much butter. It literally made the bagel wet all the way through.

Rainy miserable day today so since I had a rainy miserable ten hour work session at home day ahead, I stopped by. Now I'm not some bagel aficionado but one lady next to me on line who looked like she knew from bagels. She cheerfully regaled the weary line by raving she can't find any good bagels in Connecticut so when she's in Chatham town, she loads up on these. True to her word, she left with a sack of 'em. She had also ordered ahead but waited in line anyway - polite is fantastic. Guy next to her on line engaged her about Fairfield Connecticut where his son went to college. He crowed in a friendly way that his son encountered "like minded people" at the local college m and that was soon followed by mentioning Wall Street jobs and his son's "sugar momma". Why do I mention the on-line patter banter? Because it illustrated how Chatham types are generally convivial so I'd expect no less friendly chit chat if you go to Chstham Bagels and if you happen to be "like minded", of course. Blabbing passed the time while the two quiet Chatham Bagel men were working their tails off cranking out all orders fresh. Lastly? I just finished my bagel sandwich and pretty darn good! And just maybe enjoying the morning magic of preparing and enjoying good bagels makes everyone like minded here!
