I've consistently had great luck with David's bridal. I have bought one dress for myself and went shopping for another dress with my friend. I really enjoyed our person helping us try on dresses. She just let us two girls do our thing! She was so patient with us we just were trying to get an idea of what my friend would like. Alterations department are amazing women and I will always go to David's bridal first for any formal wear

Before my appointment, I had a video call with Sandra, the owner, to chat about what I was looking for so she could have some dresses already pulled for me to try on when I went in. The dress I purchased was the second one I tried on, but I still had fun trying on all of the other dresses. Sandra clearly has a keen eye for design, and there were dresses to fit pretty much any style in the shop. I loved that each dress is limited production, so I knew my dress would be unique! Sandra made me feel so comfortable and beautiful throughout my whole appointment. When my wife went for her appointment, it was her first experience shopping for a wedding dress and she was very anxious going in. I had already purchased my dress and Sandra made sure my dress was nowhere in the shop so we wouldn't accidentally purchase the same dress! She had a wonderful experience that put her at ease and got to try on several options. She was certain going in that she wasn't going to purchase anything but found her dress that day! She was also able to work with Sparkle to convert a beautiful floral veil into a cape to attach to her dress. I highly recommend Sparkle for any mid- to plus-size brides!

But of the three dresses I pulled from the rack, one of them was my dream! The staff was also wonderful, encouraging, and helpful. My dress had a few things I was concerned about from an alteration perspective, and one staff member was able to explain to me the different ways a seamstress could work with the dress to make it fit as desired. The dress was only $600 and I got a comment from my sister that it didn't look like a $600 dress--it's a much nicer dress that was available for a significant discount! I will note that a couple other dresses I tried on did have more significant quality issues than the one I bought (e.g. broken zippers, lace pulling away). I certainly wouldn't say it's a guarantee that you'll find the right dress here. But it's absolutely worth a try! You're only technically allowed to bring three guests but I was able to bring four without a problem :)

I wanted the beautiful dress, just like all brides, but the thought of spending thousands for a dress I would wear for one day felt so strange too. I wanted the perfect dress, but without the weight on my conscience that I was not only spending a lot but being unsustainable or wasteful. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I found Bride for a Cause, a shop that aligned with my ideals and also felt far more wallet-friendly. The shop is bright and welcoming, the appointments laid-back (and a little DIY), and the staff very friendly and helpful. Most importantly, though, Brides for a Cause is a perfect trifecta of affordable, sustainable, and charitable -- which made this bride feel great. They collect donations of used or sample dresses, sell them at a deep discount, and then pass along the proceeds to a myriad of inspiring causes supporting women. I'll be honest, knowing that they would be limited to what was donated, I really went to say that I tried and with low hopes that they would be able to make my dress dreams come true. I was prepared to go back to a traditional shop. Instead, I walked out not only with my perfect dress, but with the knowledge that I was being sustainable and supporting great causes. And the $600 price tag did not hurt. I think my dress had not been worn previously, so it needed a bustle and other alterations, which turned out to be more complicated than expected. Still, even with all that, I ended up spending around $900 total on my dress -- well under just the starting price of a similar gown bought at a traditional shop. On top of that, the DIY nature of the shop (where you pick your own dresses off the rack versus having an attendant bring them to you), turned out to be a lot of fun for my sister, niece, and me! One piece of advice: I went to a traditional shop first to have an array of try-ons and hone in on my style preferences (with the expectation that I'd return if I didn't find a dress at Brides for a Cause). I'd highly recommend that to anyone, because it was great to have a professional help pinpoint things from the inspiration photos I'd brought, and then we were able to take notes on what we liked and didn't from the dresses I tried -- making it lot easier to go into Brides for a Cause and find something.

The shop itself is clean, very organized, and spacious. While open concept, each dressing area still feels private, which was nice. They had such a wide selection of dresses so even if you don't know what you're looking for, it'll be there! Plus there are various designers with different price ranges, so there's something for most people's budgets. I greatly appreciated that they kept my budget in mind when choosing dresses for me to try on. Now onto the best part - my stylist, Theresa. She is an absolute GEM of a human being. I called beforehand to confirm that they carried the style I wanted to try and she immediately knew what I was talking about, so you know the shop's stylists are on top of what's in their inventory. When I arrived, she was so nice and caring, making sure I was comfortable. We talked about what I was looking for, took a stroll around the shop to discuss some styles she had picked out for me beforehand, and gather some initial feedback on stuff. What I really appreciated was that she had actually tried on a couple of the styles she suggested to make sure they were petite friendly! I'm 5'0 with a longer torso and shorter legs and so my proportions can be tricky to style. Theresa had mentioned she was of similar build and took the care and time to make sure the styles she suggested to me were going to fit my frame! The actual trying on of dresses was so much more seamless than my other experiences. Yes, you will get up and personal with your stylist, but they help you get into the gown, clip it to your frame, and make sure it sits as best on your body as it can given the size differences. I didn't bring anyone to my appointment, so Theresa graciously offered to take pictures for me and she made sure I got the best lighting. She also took the time to walk me through how things would sit differently once it was in my size, so I got a better picture of the fit. There were so many beautiful dresses I tried on and some I didn't expect to love but did, but ultimately, I know my style and my likes incredibly well and ended up saying yes to the dress I had initially driven up for! Theresa and the rest of the a&bé team were so adorable in congratulating me and even though I had come to the visit alone, it felt like I had my besties with me. Theresa especially felt like a close friend and I cannot stress enough how much she MADE the appointment what it was - which was GREAT. If you take anything away from this post, please please PLEASE check out a&bé (even if it may be a drive for you). The experience itself is well worth it!

Elizabeth was kind, fun, professional, and she made me feel so comfortable throughout the wedding dress fittings. I had done a wedding dress fitting a few weeks prior and it was not the best experience, which made me pretty hesitant to doing a second one. However, Elizabeth changed all of that for me, and I had the best time! She listened to my preferences, what I like vs. don't like, areas of my body I wanted to accentuate vs. hide, and made the entire experience such a memorable part of my wedding planning process. Elizabeth took the time to curate different dresses for me to try on, took into consideration when I provided feedback, and was NEVER ever inserting her opinion for her own benefit. She also took into consideration my price range, and was always transparent about dresses being a couple hundred dollars over my budget. Two of my best friends were also present (one in person and the other was on FaceTime), and she even got a tripod for my phone to be placed on when trying dresses so he could see everything better! Customer service 10/10. I also appreciate how beautiful Elizabeth made me feel, complimenting and hyping me up, which is what I needed for a semi-timid bride. This was the first stop on our second day (not consecutive) in the hunt for the perfect dress. Grace and White Bridal came highly recommended by a handful of friends, so we had to make an appointment here. I tried to make the appointment for the bride, but due to the questions asked, I couldn't and didn't want to answer them. They were personal and preferential, so I actually had to have her make the appointment. Also, this is the ONLY bridal shop in Sacramento that actually makes a bride pay for their first appointment. It cost $30 for the appointment, so I guess we paid for our own champs ;) And to note, which their website notes, the $30 fee will go toward your dress if you find one there. We were kindly greeted by our sales associate (SA). I wish I could remember her name. I do remember I loved her dress and she easily shared where she bought it and how recently -- yes, I did go buy it :) Back on track, there was a group of us - bride, MOTB, MIL, MOH, Cousin, and a bridesmaid surprised us by joining shortly after we sat down. The SA was extremely kind and offered us glasses of champs while we waited for the bride to try on her first dress. I will say, she was understaffed, because she was dealing with what seemed like an emergency on the phone and trying to service us while we were there in person. She did the best she could, but I believe it would have been a better experience if she wasn't having to multitask. The brick interior is welcoming with tons of fresh light from the many windows. It is very inviting and feels extremely clean. The interior decor is very similar to many bridal shops, but still super cute. Fun and eclectic furniture, but open and inviting. If you are a bride looking to try on 20+ dresses, this might not be your spot. It's a small, local bridal shop. They have more than 20 dresses, but their inventory is on the smaller side. They have lots of beautiful options, in varying price ranges, but they are only as big as they can be. They also had a 'sale' rack with dresses that were as-is and 'last ones' available. Might be of interest if you are cost sensitive. Overall, it was a nice experience. Not our favorite, but nothing was bad at all. We enjoyed our time there, even though the bride did not find her dress there. Bridal dress shopping is surely an experience...
