Stay well away. I called David's when my garage door was stuck, and Miran S. (who also goes by Ron), the owner of Mirage Garage Doors & Gates, arrived instead. Miran charged me exorbitant prices both for parts and for labor: 4-5x the fair price, as I learned from competitors' quotes afterward. Miran did not give me a labor estimate until after he completed his job. In fairness to Miran, he did come on short notice and did genuinely good work: he fixed my garage door and generally tuned up the system. Still, he massively price gouged me. I'm young and inexperienced about home repair. I believe Miran sensed my naivety as a young adult and took advantage of me. I've tried contacting Miran to renegotiate, but he did not respond. I've tried to understand what happened. Even though I originally called David's instead of Mirage, Miran asked me to write my check to Mirage, and my invoice read "Mirage garage doors & gates/ David's doors". I believe the Yelp page for David's is actually a front for Mirage, which is well known for price gouging (check Mirage's reviews). This bait-and-switch works for a couple reasons. First, David's attracts customers with an undeserved positive reputation: many five-star reviews are from Washington and New York, even though David's is in California. Second, because customers write their checks to Mirage, and because Miran leaves behind Mirage's contact info, upset customers leave reviews for Mirage, not David's. Those reviews don't affect Miran's business: Mirage isn't attracting customers from its own page, it's attracting them from pages like David's instead. If I'd known that David's is connected to Mirage, I would not have contacted David's. Now you know, so you can make a more informed decision than I did! Also, I believe the owner of this Yelp page, David C., is actually Miran, or at least someone connected to Miran. Supporting that belief: * Again, my invoice listed the business as "Mirage garage doors & gates/ David's doors". The invoice lists only one contractor license number: 1016959. According to the California Contractors State Licensing Board, that license belongs to "M N D SERVICES INC dba MIRAGE GARAGE DOORS & GATES". On this Yelp page, when David responds to customers, he often signs with "always here to serve you." (For example, see the review by Vanessa R. on Apr 4, 2024; and the review by Alan N. on Sep 5, 2023.) I believe the same person writes Ron's and David's responses. If any of those responses disappear, you know why. * Other reviewers have done their own research and concluded that Miran runs multiple front businesses. For example, on Mirage's page, the review by Bob B. on Apr 29, 2023 claims that Miran runs a front business called Danny's Garage Doors and Repair. Also, on David's page, the review by p m. on Feb 20, 2024 claims that Miran runs two other front businesses: Pristine Garage Doors and Gate Repair, and GR8 Garage Door Of Pasadena. On Jul 26, 2023, Miran left a five-star review on this Yelp page as if he were a customer, even though I believe he controls this Yelp page as David C. Posting a review without disclosing a conflict of interest violates Yelp's Terms of Service. (Perhaps Miran posted a review from a real customer--but if that's true, he still did not disclose that the review was someone else's!) Miran also left a review for Pristine Garage Doors and Gate Repair, which (per the third bullet point above) he might have a conflict of interest with as well. I have tried contacting Yelp about these apparent policy violations, to no avail. So, I'm warning you here instead. Inquired with a few companies before deciding to go with David. He came by and provided a reasonable quote for our garage door issues. Our door wasn't shutting properly and left gaps on both ends of the door. The garage wheel came off the track and snapped. David provided us with a complete maintenance package, which included a full inspection of the door, along with replacing all the wheels and tightening any loose bolts or cables.
