Tried the baked eggs and the Berry Napoleon. Both were really good! The baked eggs are organic with baked seasonal vegetables and a slice of toasted sourdough bread just perfect for a light brunch. I couldn't resist trying the berry Napoleon, and don't regret it, loved that it was not very sweet as some tend to be, the cream was dreamy and the dough seemed extra buttery but less crispy than I'm accustomed, the berries were tart making a nice contrast with the cream and pastry. Would love to come back and try some other items on the menu! This is such a pleasant brunch spot! My boyfriend and I walked by Dawa's one weekend morning, and decided to stop in after seeing how busy it was. We had to wait about ten minutes to get a table due to the crowd, and it was overall well worth it. The service was very standard. Friendly, attentive, and helpful. The ambiance is pretty cool too. Nothing over the top, which makes you feel comfortable and cozy. We started with the French Toast. This dish was sadly a miss, in my opinion. I've had better at other brunches. Something about the taste just didn't sit right with me. Although this first dish wasn't anything special, the experience went way up from there. We followed the French Toast with a strawberry-beet cold soup that was recommended by our waitress. It was bomb! We loved it! The strawberry and beet flavors went surprisingly very well together. It also has bites of mint in it which just make it so much tastier. I'm glad I got to taste this dish because they apparently change their menu seasonally. I completely recommend it! After the soup, we had the baked eggs. This was the absolute standout! Very, very flavorful! A great mix of savory vegetables accompany the eggs. I seriously returned to Dawa's the following weekend just for this dish and that soup. It really was that good! I've enjoyed my time at Dawa's and do recommend visiting. 4 stars because there are much more hits than misses to their menu. Do yourself a favor a try the baked eggs, and strawberry-beet soup. Adorable decor. Very nice staff. I got the Momo Dumplings stuffed with chicken. I really liked the flavor and presentation. I also got an orange & beet juice. It was very good. The only other comment would be that I found my chair very uncomfortable, and the table setup was not very good... it was four chairs tightly squeezed into a table with the table legs almost directly at our sides, so we were almost 'boxed into' the table. And my seat itself was not comfortable at all. I also noticed another table...almost like an elevated 'bench', over against the side wall, and it had four seats which were clearly way too low for that elevated table. I can't imagine anybody being comfortable sitting at such a table. Unless a restaurant specifically wants people to be Uncomfortable (so they don't stay too long and take up a table that other new diners might need), then restaurants should really test out the tables and the chairs. There is generally a set optimal distance between a chair seat and a table, for diners to comfortably eat at. When these details are not correct, diners can find themselves very uncomfortable during a meal. read more

One thing though, with how busy you're getting (because you're awesome) maybe consider getting table numbers to give out when people order so you can keep track of your tables and not help calm the chaos. I like this place and have been several times, but there's room for improvement. It is extremely dependent on what you order. My main complaint is that some menu items are bland, especially the non-meat dishes. There are few gluten free options. Serving sizes are smaller than standard American serving sizes, so two people may want to order 3 dishes. This review is based on our order yesterday. Yum. Found this place through Yelping bunch spots around my area and had to try it after seeing pics of the buttermilk chicken sandwich. Dawa also has a selection of Tibetan dishes on its brunch menu alongside the traditional American fare. The buttermilk chicken sandwich was perfectly fried on a brioche bun, but there wasn't much meat on the chicken - it was pretty fatty. The vegetarian momu was delicious and very filling. Sitting in this restaurant as I write this. Sharon, the hostess/waitress recommended a lovely red wine and let me try it before pouring a glass. It is delicious (still sipping it). I was so excited to check this place out after reading so many great reviews and it was good but seemed a bit disorganized. Maybe I visited at the wrong time but when I walked in the place was a bit of a mess.. The space near the register looks very disorganized and you couldn't tell where the line started or where it ended. There are some tables toward the back which you can barely get to because the line is in the way as well.. When we did get to the table, the chairs were too short for it - very uncomfortable. Now the positive: My friend and I both ordered orange juice which was advertised on their menu board and they didn't have any so they offered grapefruit juice or beet and orange juice.. I got the grapefruit instead, and i think they forgot to put it in because I had to ask for it again when our food got to the table. It was a tiny mason jar of juice ($3) not bad for fresh squeezed! For food, we both got pancakes and they were very good! Three small and delicious pancakes come on the plate with some syrup and butter on the side. Oh man I wanted to like this place soooo much! I love momos and I had heard about this place but I was so sorely let down. First off the place wasn't super packed so you would think that our order would have been secure but it was not. Here's what happened. 1. Our large coffees were put in to go cups (we were clearly dining in) we had to ask for mugs 2. They brought someone else's good to our table and when we said it wasn't our it sat there for some time before they brought it to its rightful owner (yum) 3. They forgot my side of bacon 4. We were done with our food and we asked to cancel the bacon it hadn't come out yet and they were like well we made it 5. Since we were done with our eggs and pancakes we asked for some bread with the impending bacon. We were a group of three (they gave us ONE piece of bread) ! Overall it was disappointing, the service was horrible and unfortunately the momos were dry!! :( but the decor is pretty. read more

I wanted to love this place but couldn't because I was disappointed with my burrata, peach and prosciutto salad, mostly because when I read salad I am under the impression I would get some greens on my plate. Nope, not here. Just cheese, peach and prosciutto on a plate for $10.25 and if I want a bed of lettuce to go with it, I had to pay an additional $5.00. I would've given a lower rating but I noticed that other people's dishes look much more substantial than mine. A very unassuming and charming restaurant with impeccably tasty food, all at a very reasonable price. Here is what I recommend for brunch. It ended up being the perfect amount for two: * the pancakes ($6) - 3 perfectly moist pancakes. * the vegetable momo ($7) - very flavorful. They apparently have a "no laptop policy" weekends and evenings. As a frequent single diner being able to use a laptop is often a key element of enabling me to enjoy a restaurant experience and I find this discriminatory. I have never experienced this elsewhere in NY or in frequent dining globally including at high-end venues. While I understand some establishments (e.g. coffee shops) have such policies during busy times to prevent hogging tables with minimal spend, I had placed a full order (appetizer, entree, drink), and the restaurant was virtually empty at the time of my visit. Disappointing, and as I said, it felt very discriminatory. Whatever the policy intent it also seems elitist to me; in this day and age, a laptop if used quietly should be no different from a book or a newspaper, and what else is a single diner supposed to do - stare into space? I did not feel welcome. Though I will say the restaurant employee who informed me of this policy did so politely and respectfully and gave me the option of canceling my order (which I promptly did, and left). read more
