We visited Phayul as part of a Queens food crawl. As one of the OG momo places, it was a must. There are several types of momos (essentially Tibetan dumplings) available here, including original, steamed, fried, stir fried, and pan fried. At the recommendation of the server, we had the pan fried, which is a combo of steamed/fried. We had the chicken, the beef, and the veggie. All were super savory and delish. Well seasoned and flavorful. Service was kind and attentive. Prices reasonable. We got 24 momos (eight per serving) for around 45 dollars. They also offer fried noodles, thenthuk, laphing, tofu, veggies, pork, stir-fry, and a number of other Tibetan offerings. This is the second location of this excellent Tibetan spot with the main difference being that this is on the ground floor and that there's more room for larger groups so I would recommended it if you have a large group. We shared a bunch of dishes and they were all reasonably priced and the food overall was very tasty. Unfortunately, my photos did not come out well at all. They have hard liquor here but I didn't bother with any drinks as for once, I was not in the mood for a butter tea. We shared the following- Steamed Momo (beef) Aloo Dum/Fried spicy potatoes Spicy Duck Eggs Lhasa Fried Noodles Tsak Sha Drang Tsel/Beef Cold Salad Laphing (served with garlic & spring onion chili sauce) Chicken Manchurian Chele Khastsa/Fried spicy beef tongue w/vegetables & spicy chili sauce Gyarong pork/Pork slices stir-fried w/vegetables, green onions & sesame seeds As per most Himalayan spots, most people order momos which is one of the reasons why this place has became pretty famous. The momos in particular were outstanding with the closest place in recent memory being Kasthamandap with the texture of the dumpling being very nice and with them being quite jam-packed with filling. The Aloo Dum/Fried spicy potatoes were also notable being much more flavored/spiced compared to most Himalayan spots being closer to the Indian version with a bit of heat which is a wonderful thing as I usually find Himalayan version to be a bit bland. If you're looking for more heat, the Spicy Duck Eggs which are very similar to what you can find in Szechuan spots being made with century eggs (if it wasn't for the onions instead of the usual peppers) were also quite tasty. The Laphing had a nice texture and and was well spiced with the chili sauce having a good kick. The same nice kick can be applied to the well flavored Beef Cold Salad and the very tasty Chela Khastsa/Fried Spicy Beef Tongue which had a satisfying texture being thin enough to be slightly chewy but also be tender. There were three dishes that I thought were just okay. Best of the OK ones was Chicken Manchurian which lacked a good crunch but were pretty well flavored. The Lhasa Fried Noodles didn't have as good of a texture as many other places and also lacked a bit of flavor as well so I wouldn't recommend them much. My least favorite dish and the least favorite of the group was the Gyarong Pork as I found the pork to be oddly chewy having perhaps a bit too much fat on each piece and it was a tad gamey also. The fact that we only disliked three dishes to an extent out of nine (with one of them still being pretty good) showcases the quality of the food here. By comparison to most Tibetan or Himalayan spots in general, the food here is better spiced which is appreciated as I usually find food from that part of the world to be a bit bland compared to similar dishes found in India or Pakistan. My friends and I had a mini 20 year reunion so we decided to dine in the Michelin Bib Gourmand Phayul. The place was somewhat hard to find because there were two locations. For drinks we got margaritas, cocktail, mango juice and butter tea. We ordered individual dishes so we ordered the following: Fried Lamb Ribs, Chilli Momos, Pan Fried Vegetable Momos, Steamed Chicken Momos, Lhasa Fried Noodles with Beef and Chicken. All of these dishes were filling and hit the spot. Portions were huge and took the rest home. I've had their momos before but this was my first time dining in. Great value. We visited here following the 13th annual momo crawl in Jackson Heights which this establishment did not participate in in 2025. Looking forTibetan cuisine on Yelp, this place came up. There are actually 2 locations on the same street, right across from each other. One location upstairs and the other on ground level. This is for the newer ground level spot. Small dining area, but 1 or 2 tables for groups available. Full bar and bottled bear selection. This are some tradional Tibetan dishes,and they do have momo, but dishes seem more a fusion of the Himalayan regions and and other fare. I really wanted to try the laphing appetizer, a spicy, cold noodle dish. I liked the texture of the noodles. The filling was super hot! I am not sure if chili oil was the only thing inside, but seemed like it was. We also had the stirred fried beef with radish which did have a nice flavor, although some of the meat slices were chewy, but the radish and onions were tender. The chicken lollipops, which were originally ordered dry, came to the table with sauce and were not dry. The owner seemed perturbed with us, asking us if we were sure we ordered it dry. The other main dish came out and the correct chicken dish took a good amount of time to arrive. It was very good. Service was somewhat cold and there were no checks ins. We did feel a little ignored and had to ask for drink refills and the check when someone walked by. We were told the check had to be paid at the bar if it wasn't cash (it was never brought to our table) but when going to pay, no one was at the bar. Little confusing. I did not look carefully enough at the check to see if the automatic 18% tip was charged as other reviews pointed out. This is only my second time trying a Tibetan place in Jackson Heights. I got the pan fried beef momos and beef with laphing. The beef with laphing was a bit spicy, which I wasn't expecting, but it tasted really good. I usually can't really handle spice but it was a good level of spice and gave the dish some flavor. I loved the pan fried beef momos. Something to note is they have fried momos (deep fried) and pan fried momos. My friend got the deep fried momos and I got the pan fried. I tried both and ended up liking the pan fried more since it was very juicy inside. The servers were extremely kind and patiently explained items on the menu to us. They also leave a bottle of water at every table so we can refill our water glasses ourselves. The interior of the restaurant is so beautiful! My friend brought me to try this place and I was not disappointed. This place is a small mom and pop shop tucked away in a building. The space is pretty small and can get pretty busy. I tried the vegetable momos and the vegetable thenthuk and they were sooo good. They tasted even better with the chili oil--which was actually spicy. We got the vegetable momos steamed and they came out piping hot. They were also pretty large and super filling. This time around I only got to try the momos here, but they were so good I'm excited to go back and try other dishes. My friends and I shared an order of chicken momos (steamed). Not gonna lie, the steamed momos were a bit dry, but that's where the sauce on the table come into play. The Sea momos (momos drenched in Phayul's hot sauce) however, were amazing!! It wasn't very spicy, more of a sweet hot sauce. The momos are fried in this dish, and the crunchy texture of the outer momo works well with the generous helping of sauce. Not a good first impression going upstairs, with the carpeted steps. Small place, no fuss, 5 tables. Can see the kitchen from dining area so the place got pretty warm. Was cooler at the table near the door. Food was good. Pan fried momos had crispy bottoms but soupy filling. Asked for a little spice in the spicy pork but tasted mild; tasty pieces of pork bellies though. Liked the egg fried rice - different rice grain, but too simple for the price. It was our first time trying tibetan food. Don't be scared by the old staircase that leads you to this small mom and pop shop. Their beef pan seared momos are juicy and flavorful (they also sell frozen ones to go). We also tried laphing for the first time. It tasted like jelly in a spicy sauce. Not bad but also not great in my opinion. We also tried the tsak sha la kor hot. It is basically beef with radish soup with tibetan herbs. It was light and somewhat refreshing but we would have loved if there was glass noodles in this and perhaps try the shoko phing sha next time. We would come back to try their other dishes and have the beef momos again. Where do we begin..... Upon entering, our party was struggling to find anyone to help us. When the lady checked us in she verified our vaccination cards and was told to wait inside for a table to be ready. Then the other server told us to wait outside so we were confused on where to go. Upon sitting down we were handed menus and knew we wanted to try the famous veggie and beef momos. Initially we wanted to order a steamed veggie momo and a fried beef momo. But due to miscommunication only one order of the fried veggie momo came. However, we waited over 10 minutes to try and flag someone down to take our order. Then we waited another 15 to 20 mins for our food to arrive. In this time we were not offered any water or drinks, and felt ignored by the staff. We also picked up that the staff seemed annoyed and dismissive and we didn't want to bother them more. The fried veggie momo was 5 stars but the service really off put us from enjoying the food. The momo itself came piping hot and perfectly crispy. Not too oily and had a creamy potato vegetable filling. Additionally the sauces that came with the momos were spicy and delicious. Would recommend mixing all the sauces together with the pickled vegetables. We acknowledge that this location was under staffed and the summer heat could make people more irritable. However, many other tables seemed to be expierncing a similar treatment from the staff. So much so that one table left after before they got to order. read more

These momos are the real deal, and it's almost exclusively why I am giving Phayul 5 stars, though I'd lean more towards an overall 4/4.5. We came here on a Friday night in August and they have outdoor seating. It's across the street from their now temporarily closed "secret" second-floor location. We got there around 7, which was just before it got more crowded and people had to wait to get a seat. We ordered the steamed veggie momos (AMAZING 5/5 do not miss!!!), cucumber salad (4/5), shredded potatoes (4/5), veggie laphing (3/5), a couple cocktails and a mango lassie (3.5/5). I piled my veggie momos with the chili oil and took a bite and immediately went "wow". Their dough is so delicious and the potato filling balanced it perfectly. The cucumber salad was refreshing and spicy, but the laphing was a bit bland. Would have loved some veggie protein option. The mango lassie was refreshing (and not listed on the drink menu), though I have admittedly had much better mango lassis nearby at a few of the dosa places. The menu isn't super lengthy but definitely try either the steamed or fried momos! You won't regret it. Seems like the main dish is Lhasa noodles or rice which means something along the lines of "stir-fried". This was my first time in this Phayul. I don't know if it's the same owner as the old one. They have outdoor seating area and it us usually packed with people. We went their when it was raining and it is rain proof. We got spicy potatoes(forgot the name), really good, ir was buttery and spicy. I didn't like their ting mo because it was not fluff, i really don't know how to explain it, but you will get it when you try it. We also got lhaping with beef and it was my first time trying this dish and really liked it. Pork belly and mushroom dish looked very different from the picture that was on the menu. The pork belly was supposed to be fried but it was not and i can't eat pork if it is not fried because of it's texture and it smells. So, we end up throwing it. read more

Food: 3.5/5 Considering it was my first time trying Tibetan food, I was impressed. We ordered potato momo, beef momo, spicy beef tongue, fried mixed vegetables and the phayul pork. The potato momos (1.5/5) were just ok. I thought the skin was thick and the potato was a bit dry. The beef momo (3/5) had more flavor but the skin was still a bit too dry and thick for my liking. The beef tongue (4/5) was tender and had a lot of garlicly flavor. The pork (4.5/5) was delicious and came packed with chives and spices! The mixed vegetables (3/5) came with bokchoy, mushrooms, carrots and tofu. It was prepared well but it wasn't spectacular. They have two varieties of hot sauce -one that's similar to hot chili oil and another one that has a habanero taste. Im a big fan of spice and thoroughly enjoyed their hot sauce. I would definitely give this place another try. I overate but didn't feel gross. The food seemed clean. Service: 2/5 There were only 2 waitresses covering the whole restaurant. Our waitress was friendly/nice but she seemed inexperienced. She was forgetful and the service was slow. Ambiance: 3.5/5 Very clean! The interior was nicely done. Recessed lights and crown moldings. Slightly fancy. Great casual spot for friends and family. Btw -There's another Phayul across the street on the second floor. Slightly different menu. This location has a bar. Came here to try something new and eat! Today was so hectic I forgot to eat breakfast and lunch. I was a bit confused because I know there's a Phayul across the street on the second floor that I've been too and this place is also called Phayul Restaurant. It turns out to be a completely different restaurant. Different meals on the menu. Different ambiance and music in the background. The pricing isn't too bad. The menu is lacking in descriptions of the foods they cook here. The portions are too much. If they gave me half as much of the chicken it would have been perfect. I didn't love my dish, so I'm not taking it with me to go. And it's really spicy with the sauce I added to it, so I don't think a homeless person would appreciate it either. The Chicken Manchurian on it's own is bland and not spicy as described by the hostess, and it was way too salty. Not food poisoning salty, but too salty to be tasty. I didn't want to be waited on, so I ordered at the bar and sat in the least desirable seating area. It's actually a really good spot to sit in my opinion. It's close to the exit, there's a TV over the bar playing hopefully Tibetan music, but it seriously sounds like Hindi, and I can keep my back to everyone else dining here and listen to their conversations in foreign languages! Not that I understand much or any of it, but I do enjoy listening to foreign languages/music. There are some flies flying around and hanging out on the windows. If you can control the flies it would be a more pleasant dining experience. I'm not sure if they're bug booby traps or to prevent humidity, but at the corners of the restaurant there are these cylindrical cannisters. The bar doesn't look like a full bar. When I asked what kind of drinks they have (also after explaining that I eat no dairy) the first thing the hostess was excited to share with me was their mango lassi. I asked if it has milk/dairy and she said yes. Then I asked if they could use an alternate milk like almond or coconut and she said no. Why?!?! She also said there's the sodas and snapples they have on the display shelf. She didn't mention any beer or wine. Maybe because I was being frugal and asked how much extra rice would be. They do have martini and wine glasses upside-down on the display shelves. Not sure if they serve those beverages too or if that's simply misleading decor. Delicious. The noodles were very tasty, sweet and salty with a slight oily feel that was very comforting. We ordered the beef noodles but we did not like the beef. I would order the vegetable noodles instead next time. The noodles were kind of spicy which was nice but there was no warning given. The beef was dry and had no purpose in the noodles. The chicken Manchurian was delicious, the star of the night. It was spicy and slightly sweet. there was some kind of spice on it that gave it an extra texture that was unique. I have been going to Phayul for years, and it has been one of my top restaurant choices to go to in Jackson Heights whenever I'm in the area. I have always loved to look of the restaurant and how home-ly it felt. The restaurant staff are also very nice . My friends and I ordered fried rice, shapta, fried pork, chicken lollipops, and tingmos! The presentation of the food was on point. The shapta has always been my go-to dish because of how flavorful the beef is when drenched with different spices and curries. It always pairs well with tingmos. The fried pork wasn't too bad, but not par with the shapta. Chicken lollipops were a little too salty, but it tasted fine nonetheless. I give it an 8/10 in general for the whole restaurant. Came here on a sunday evening for dinner with my boyfriend. This was our first time at Phayul, his first time with trying Tibetan food (I've had momos elsewhere). We sat in the outdoor dining area which had a tent/roof setup and cute light and plants as decor. Food: 4/5 overall. We ordered fried beef momo (5/5), fried potato momo (3/5), beef shak track (5/5), chicken manchurian (3.5/5), mango lassi (3/5) and egg and shrimp fried rice (4/5). Fried beef momos were really good especially with the hot sauce! The potato momos were good, but imo since they are marketed as vegetarian i think they should have a little more veggies inside. Beef shak track is a must try. It is so flavorful and a hint of spice which is a great balance. Chicken manchurian could use a little bit more flavor/spice/salt. Mango lassi wasn't sweet enough for my liking and too yogurty. Egg and shrimp fried rice was really good flavor wise, but rice was a bit mushy - i think they used fresh rice instead of day old. Also they don't have tap water - only bottled. Service: 2.5/5 overall. We came and asked for a table for 2 and waitress said it would be a 5-10 minute wait which was perfectly fine. However the table she promised us was given away to someone else. No one said anything until I brought it up. Luckily another table cleared up for us to sit at. No one will come by to your table and ask if you need anything, or check on how the meal is going. I had to physically get up and walk over to the restaurant to ask for water, the check, and takeout containers. For each time I had to get up. I also had to ask for takeout containers twice as the original waitress completely ignored me. Overall, I would return. Minus the customer service mishaps - i would try to return at a less busy time. Delicious food.. Excellent waiters.. very courteous and welcoming. Plenty meter parking on the street. Outdoor patio eating . Ordered the Manchurian chicken and the roast beef with chill. Both dishes came with steaming hot rice as a side order. Will defintley eat here again and recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried Tibetan cuisine. read more

Second location of this popular Tibetan restaurant (the original being across the street). Dimly lit interior with both bar seating and table seating throughout. Friday night, was able to snag the last table for two. Unlike the original, this place has a full bar and a good cocktail list. Prices aren't too shabby either, as I ordered both the Tom Yum ($10) and the Ultimate Caiproska ($10). The former is a refreshing but strong gin and tonic with a balanced lime flavor. The latter is a vodka heavy drink with oranges mixed in. For food, settled on the Chicken Chili ($10) and a side of bread ($?). Chicken is decent - juicy chunks of meat that's not as crispy as I'd like. Also the sauce could have used some more flavor and/or chunkier texture. The tingmo bread is always solid; wished they would put the price of that on the menu somewhere. Service took a little time to start, though picked up as the night went along. Value in the food is certainly here; good for a low-key night. read more
