If I could give 4 and a half stars I would. The wait is a little crazy, but I think they really are trying to make it as easy as possible. We took advantage of signing up for the waitlist before leaving the house. It was a little quicker than predicted, but not by much. You would never know this used to be an IHOP. The decor is bright and fun, and very brunchy. I was excited to find out that the Jack Allen's restaurant group owns this location as well. The service was outstanding from the hostess on down. We loaded up on cocktails (which came out so fast!) and two shareable plates to start. The maple bacon fritters were crispy and flavorful. The house waffle was savory and just okay. Our whole group agreed that we hadn't been this blown away by a brunch spot in a while! It's still fairly new and quite busy so if you plan to go on a popular day, definitely go online and get on the waitlist. It was very convenient that it counted down the wait time and parties ahead of us so we could wait at home and arrive right before our table was ready. We got there and checked in with the host and they got us seated quickly. We ordered the maple bacon fritters and the cinnamon roll for the table. Both were superb. The table raved about them! This place absolutely made my day! As soon as I walked in and saw a disco ball I knew I was going to have a good time. There are cool murals throughout the restaurant as well. A great addition to the Austin brunch and lunch scene! And coffee scene for that matter! I loved that they had a coffee shop in the front waiting area so that you can order a drink or snack while you wait. Pro tip - you can join the waitlist on their website and check what the wait time is so that you aren't waiting too long at the restaurant. Then you can skip the coffee shop and order the delicious strawberries and cream matcha latte at your table! I got mine dairy free with oak milk and it was divine. It was a perfect darker green color and not too milky. Our waitress was helpful in helping us decide what to order for an appetizer and her recommendation did not disappoint! We got the bread pudding French toast and it was heavenly. The bread was moist and sweet and the fruit was super fresh. It was perfect to share with three people, even 4. For entrees, we ordered the chicken schnitzel Caesar salad in a wrap, the buenas-dilla, and the pastrami sandwich. All were amazing! There is a lack of chicken caesar salad wraps in this city so I'm so glad I found one I love! It was perfectly saucy and crispy. It also came with a side of the potato wedges, which were great. The breakfast quesadilla was awesome and served with a tasty green salsa. I did not have a bite of the pastrami sandwich but my friend enjoyed it. A fun surprise was they bring out their signature hot sauce and it was perfect to dip the potatoes in or put on really anything. It definitely had some spice but nothing crazy. I loved it! My mistake was not coming hungrier - while my pancake was deliciously springy and perfectly soaked up fresh maple syrup, there are just TOO many carb-tastic options (Churro Pancakes! Cinnamon Roll!! What a great place for brunch! We went to celebrate a friend's birthday, and our waitress was fabulous about making the birthday girl feel special. Definitely went the extra mile! Great coffee selection and our group tried the cinnamon vanilla latte, mocha latte, chai latte, and cappuccinos. All were delicious! It is Sunday brunch so we also tried the blood orange mimosa and the boozy orange Julius. So, so yum! The food is fantastic and we all loved what we ordered. We shared a cinnamon roll for the table. I met a friend here and we both ordered the coconut granola parfait. It was perfectly light and tasty. It was on the sweeter side so if you like less sweet, you may want to order something else. The texture threw off the whole dish, which I usually enjoy soft, moist, and warm. Flavor-wise, it leaned heavily on one-note savory without much depth or umami. There are also outlets at some of the tables, so it's possible to get some work done, if needed. Finally, service is attentive and friendly. The cons: extremely busy, even during the week, and food is truly nothing special at all. For all the hype around this place, I really expected something more. However, the food was very mid. Let's start with what Day Maker absolutely nailed: the coffee shop at the front entrance. Genius move. Whether you're waiting 30+ minutes for a table (as we were), wrangling a hangry toddler, or just need a grab-and-go pick-me-up, that little coffee nook is a saving grace. Mine felt like it was missing something and we just didn't connect on that South Texas vibe. Now... the check-in. We asked for a table for two. The hostess heard "three," insisted on "three," and repeated "three"... three times, with us correcting her each time with "no, 2". Cute theme, I guess? Unfortunately, this confusion led to us being skipped in the seating queue. I was seconds from asking if we'd slipped into a brunch time warp when our name was finally called--for a table for three. Welp. Once seated (finally, for two), we were hit with Austin Brunch Decibels--aka loud enough to make you feel like you're brunching inside a blender. But THEN... came Piper, our server, who was honestly the MVP of our experience. Sweet, attentive, and juggling tables like a brunch goddess. If I could Yelp her separately, she'd get 5 stars and a standing ovation, to say the least. We ordered biscuits and gravy to start. Now, I'm a born-and-bred Southerner, with deeeeeep Southern roots. I take biscuits seriously--like, your great grandmother's Sunday post church supper levels of serious. These? They looked like bread impersonating biscuits. Heavy. Dense. No flaky joy. The gravy tasted more like bacon drippings than actual sausage gravy. I tried salvaging it with butter and jelly, but even then... the butter wasn't salted. Tragic. $9 later, I had taken one bite and waved a white napkin of surrender. However, again - I'm on a whole other level of what's an acceptable biscuit. I ordered the Crab Cake Benny next. I had high hopes. Researched it, bookmarked it, dreamed about it. One bite in... and I was immediately transported to the nursing home cafeteria. No seasoning, all fishy. Bless Piper, who handled it gracefully when I asked to switch it out. I pivoted to the churro pancakes. They looked promising--big, fluffy, golden stacks--but they lacked the Mexican chocolate shavings, and the horchata butter and cajeta drizzle merging had a weirdly chemical aftertaste. One bite, and I was done. My friend tried them and said, "Honestly? This tastes like iHop on a slow day." Ouch. Final thoughts: I wanted to love Day Maker. The concept is strong. The staff is kind. The coffee nook? Inspired. And judging by the crowd, lots of people do love this place. But for me? If I'm paying Austin brunch prices, I want food that tastes better than what I make at home. I ordered the sweet potato hash & a side of cheesy grits. The hash was as good, but something through it off for me - unable to pin point what it was, maybe my drink choice didn't mesh well. The grits were delish. A little larger grain but taste was like a loaded baked potato -5/5. My friend had the steak and grits and described it as delicious . This was my first time visiting Day Maker Half Day cafe for brunch after my long run. It was a brief wait (20 minutes) to get a table but it was worth the wait. The inside of the restaurant is a fun retro vibe very colorful. I didn't even recognize the space from when it was an IHOP. The service was amazing. I had questions about the menu specials and the waitress made helpful recommendations and had tried the dishes beforehand and had interactions with the chef so knew how the provide helpful feedback about the dishes. We started the meal off with a carafe of white peach mimosas. These were probably the best tasting mimosas that I have ever had. The carafe was generous with white peach puree that went nicely with the Champaign. I had the blue crab salad which was as also one of the best salads I have ever consumed. It came with mixed greens, boiled egg, thick cut bacon lardons, tomato, caper, creamy tarragon dressing, crouton dust, grated pecorino. My dining companion had the chorizo benny that came with Masa cakes, refried black beans, spicy chorizo, poached eggs, avocado mousse, chipotle hollandaise, escabeche. He subbed the potato wedges with the cheesy grits. We saw another table partaking in breakfast shots so in conclusion of the meal we ordered one of each: tequila sunrise and bourbon bacon. GF asked me for something new and I actually passed up going north for longtime Austin favorite Chez Zee. Haven't been there in years either. Back to Day Maker, perhaps the first mistake I made was choosing the biscuits and gravy as my first choice. Kinda been there done that in my own mind; good bites but I've had it before. Wasn't exactly piping hot either. I went off posted menu and chose the steak and caramelized onion enchiladas. Advertised with Suiza sauce was a nice flavor with a similar profile to roasted tomatillos and sour cream mixed together. Although enjoyable the caramelized onions were barely present. Taters were a unique approach. Griddle some cheese and then fold mashed taters in for the potato element. If you tasted one without the other it was not a breakfast dish. Paired it was better bites; not the most successful $19 dish I've ever had with one single (tiny) sunny egg on top. GF chose the pastrami sandwich with perhaps better results. Not that I love ANYTHING with mustard of any kind as a breakfast dish but it was a good bite. I can't remember our servers name but I gave her some purple PEEP earrings that I made. She loved them! She came back later with the bill and she had them on! Yay! Normally this is fine but she ordered the avocado toast which came with an egg on top. She had to lift up her egg and dig out all of the shrimp to get their tails off. Perhaps just one shrimp on top that still had its tail for show. It was a bit awkward to deconstruct her beautiful breakfast. Needless to say it didn't not stop her from gobbling it up. ;) I LOVED mine. I ordered the Chorizo Benny. Our server claimed the avocado mousse was great to dip the crispy potatoes in but I disagree. Wow such a cool place. The bartender was awesomely amazing as we were sitting at the counter for a late breakfast. We started with the biscuits and gravy. Ok that was just wow so delicious and tasty. Then Cody had the huevos ranchero which she liked a lot, only thing is she would recommend they go lighter on the ranchero sauce as it over powered the eggs etc. I got the buttermilk pancakes and they were fantastic. I went with the drip and it was a robust blend. Decided on the state fair waffle, which is a twist on a classic, using a chive and bacon waffle with berry compote. Super tasty and great for those of us who can't decide between sweet and savory for breakfast. Also had a side of chicken sausage, which was very good as well. I had a lovely experience here. It was my first trip there. It is a bit of a drive for me from Round Rock, but it was so worth it. I got there about 8 AM, and I was seated immediately. The service was very good. The place was busy for having only been opened for an hour, but I was still able to sit and relax. I like to people watch so this was cool to see everyone interacting and enjoying the morning and food! My waitress talk to me about some of her favorite things on the menu. I went with the strawberry and cream Matcha as well as the sesame steak bowl. It was early in the morning, but it was so worth getting it. It was filling, I didn't need lunch. It was so good really good. Glad that she gave me that recommendation as well as telling me that the strawberry and cream Matcha was very refreshing because it absolutely was. This was my first time here. The decor is bright, inviting, and super cute! It was Saturday morning, and the place was packed. They do have a separate area for to go coffee and pastries. We started with a carafe of blood orange mimosa, and it was excellent, so much so that we ordered a second. (There were 4 of us sharing it, so it's not as scandalous as it sounds.) I ordered the chorizo Benny from the gluten free menu. I subbed fresh avocado for the avocado mousse since the latter is made with heavy cream. It was delicious! All of the components really worked together, and everything was cooked perfectly. Service was amazing! At the end of the meal, one of the women didn't finish her sausage because it was undercooked. She just left it on the plate. Without us saying anything about it, the manager came over and offered us a complimentary slice of cheesecake and a bowl of fresh fruit (for those of us who can't eat cheesecake). Last month we tried to casually drop in around noon for Sunday brunch. Bad idea. The wait time was about 27 hours. Today we were smart. We got on the waitlist around 10 AM, arrived around 12:30 and were seated almost immediately. Our server was friendly, funny and, when asked for opinions, gave good, well informed ones and steered me right to the breakfast I wanted--the Hot Chick, which is a delicious, spicy, but not-too-spicy chicken sandwich. It's a big, well-seasoned fried chicken thigh served on a soft brioche-type bun with big cuts of bread & butter pickles, a good amount of mayo, and just the right amount of coleslaw. The potato wedges that came with my sandwich were also perfect. They were so dark I was afraid they might be hard or overcooked, but they were not. They were just right--well-seasoned, interesting, but soft and creamy inside. My friend was very happy with her fresh-squeezed blood orange juice and her Migas Verde, which looked, and was, delicious, she said. The ambiance was super cool and fun, lots of cute things to check out and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant felt light and happy. The menu consisted of some classic items and other more unique dishes on their rotating menu. The Churro Panackes were rich and cinnamon-ny - definitely a for the table type of dish. The Coconut Ube Pancakes were lighter and had a mild earthy flavor which I enjoyed. The Chorizo Benny was slightly spicy with perfectly oozy eggs to tie the dish together. Great brunch spot in Central Austin. My coworker and I stopped in after our overnight shift. We were thirsty, plus a bit hungry. First we started with a spicy blood Mary, so delicious. Wonderful new addition to the area! I was so excited when I heard the same owners of Jack Allen's were going to be opening a new concept here - and they delivered! The decor is funky and fun! I love how colorful it is and fun murals on the walls, great place for a casual lunch or to take the family! Also an ideal brunch spot. There is a coffee to-go counter at the entry if you want something quick, but I'd highly recommend sitting at the restaruant if you have the time. The food is fantastic - I tried the fried chicken sandwich and burger and both were very good. The only thing I was a little dissappointed in was their juices - I ordered a sunny juice which was orange with mint, basil, and other herbs, but really all you could taste was the orange. It wasn't as crafted as the menu made it sound. Still a great fresh juice, but with all their other drink options on the menu I would recommend trying something else (unless you are ok with just juice!). Ample parking and lunch on weekday they can normally accomodate a smaller party. Curious how busy this is on weekends! read more

as soon as you walk in the vibes are so cute. the have a little coffee area and i noticed a lot of people using that prior to sitting down for breakfast/lunch. on a sunday we waited about 20 mins for a table and everyone was so nice! my bf got the hangover enchilada and we were surprised how it came bc we are used to it being rolled up. it was different and he enjoyed it. i got the hot chicken sandwich and it was HUGE! it was very flavorful, i do wish that the spice was distributed better because it was would one bite was normal then the next was spicy. still super good! loved the dirty queso. it was also my bf birthday and we got a complimentary desert (red velvet cheesecake) and was literally the best dessert ever. we will definitely be back for more! read more
