Stop at daybreak to get an iced latte. While asking about the sizes the girl at the register explained me that they only have the small 16 oz. Which is fine with me, I proceed just to give a suggestion to have a one more size as an option where you can do 3 shots of expresso. The male barista started to give me a whole speech about coffee, stating that coffee needs it to be special and needs to be in small amounts to to enjoy it, comparing the coffee to buying a Lamborghini. At this point started to turn out of a simple conversation. Then he proceed to tell me that people don't know about coffee and the "American mentality" is to have everything in big gulps like Starbucks or dunking donuts (pretty much telling me to go there instead and being sarcastic and rude). Then the girl at the register proceeds to tell me that is also not profitable by them spending to much on milk with the big cups. I mentioned that if the business was not profitable wouldn't be open at all. This all develops while I'm waiting for my coffee. There is always better ways to hold a conversation without getting to that non sense conversation, remember that I am just giving a simple suggestion from one of your customers. They were very rude and probably will be the last time I stop by there. It's a shame because I support the business frequently. Not any more. read more

Figured I'd update since I've been to Daybreak several times in the past month and I love it more with each visit. Today I brought my laptop to hunker down and work for a few hours, and the cafe was really conducive to productivity. I also wanted to comment on the cafe's lunch menu. Some seriously tasty light meals here, folks! Paninis, soups and more. I ordered a cup of chicken and sausage jambalaya, which was a bit salty but so spicy & tasty- lovely paired with a big ol' hunk of sourdough bread. And, oh the coffee. Today's flavor was mocha butter crunch (whaat?! yuuuup) which just about did me in. So stinkin' wonderful. Shiny, happy, personable counter service as well. As always, I'm a fan. read more

I stopped by here this past Wednesday by myself for my morning coffee. I was staying in Glastonbury for a few days and had looked on Yelp for a coffee place and was excited to see a coffee roasters nearby. So I got in the car and headed over to Daybreak. I entered their shop through the Main St entrance which I soon discovered was probably the side entrance. It did give me a chance to walk past the large amount of items that they had for sale as I headed to the coffee counter in the back. That also allowed me to see all of the bins of coffee that they presumably had roasted. For my coffee on this morning I decided to go with a cappuccino to go. Within a few minutes I had my coffee and was on my way. The coffee itself ended up being really good. There was a perfect amount of foam on the top and the coffee really was allowed to shine through. It was strong and smooth while tasting very fresh. It was actually one of the best cappuccinos I have had recently as it really had the Espresso shine through with the milk being a great supporting actor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I really enjoyed my cappuccino and would be interested in trying their drip coffee as well. read more

Dulce de leche with oat milk is Sooooooooo good. I drive out of my way for this on a weekend morning. Love the nuttiness and the sweet caramel taste and texture. Wow!! We are obsessed! Wish we lived closer and we are working on that. Could not believe the amount of coffee choices they had!! We absolutely LOVE coffee and usually in the morning add cinnamon to our regular brewed coffee...if you haven't tried it then please do...It adds so much flavor. Well, when we got to Daybreakers we saw that they make a coffee with Cinnamon in it. It's called Viennese Cinnamon. YUM!! We ordered a pound and was back 2 weeks later getting another 2lbs. You can order online which is great but we love the area and wanted to come back up anyways. At their coffee counter in the front, they have amazing drinks that they can make for you like the lemonade with an espresso shot. Never heard of that but delicious. Also their brewed teas are unsweetened and I found my most favorite drink of all...The frozen cappuccino. Holy crap batman, that is the tastiest thing I have ever had!! I was feeling optimistic as the smell of roasting coffee wafted through the air as I looked for a parking place. My americano was spot on, and my companion reported her iced tea was delicious. For the beverages alone, 5 stars. The breakfast sandwiches we got were prepared to order, which took several minutes, but they were tasty enough. The bagel sandwiches were toasted on a panini press, which kept the outside crispy and the inside soft, which is just backwards to my taste. The interior fits the pretensions of Glastonbury (after all, it is nestled among several jewelry stores in the surrounding blocks). The retail displays scream "artisanal" in their presentation, and the coffee bean and grinding bar features a staff who will help you find your ideal blend. However, the prices and service are warm and friendly, so I'll chalk it up to fitting in with the well-heeled natives. read more

Daybreak is one of my very favorite places in Glastonbury. Whether stopping by for a quick coffee or to sit outside and watch Glastonbury life go by (yes you cynics, there is life in Glastonbury), I find this a perfect place. Delightful indoor space and perfect fair weather outdoor cafe. I love variety in unflavored coffee and Daybreak never disappoints. The baked goods are amazing though I try to avoid them so I can fit through the door. Went there yesterday to pick up a prepaid order at 11:30. The orders were left outside, doors were locked and there was a sign - "out on break until 12pm". I am extremely fond of Daybreak. They check off just about all the boxes of wants/needs in a coffee shop, but nothing beats the warm and calm atmosphere. I worked in here for many hours for several days, because it was just so nice. Someone is always mixing a nice blend of tunes low in the background. There is a flow of friendly people, meeting up or stopping in. I usually sit in the front area by the window but there is seating in back by the barista too which breaks up the space. A man is roasting coffee just about all day long, talking to customers and filling the shop with wonderful smells. Just about as many people come in for fresh beans as they do for coffee. I truly appreciate that you can just get a small egg omlette for about $3. It's simple but its so nice that I can get someone simple and unfussy (something I would make for myself at home) while out and about. They have a nice array of panini's and fresh pastries as well. I definitely enjoy their drip coffee best, but I see other patrons with all sorts of fancy lattes that look scrumptious too. Covid-era update: They have really figured out how to do take-out efficiently. Call in your order, pay over the phone, pick it up at the table across the side door, where your order is waiting. I have ordered coffee several times during this craziness and it's always a delight. I also ordered grounds for me and a friend and they have a bookcase on which they put all the coffee ground/loose tea orders just outside the door. Super efficient and coffee comes out quickly after placing your order. I've never waited more than a few minutes. Stopped in here on a work trip to get some stuff done before heading back to the airport. This place looked ideal for working outside because it has an amazing Front patio. Grabbed a coffee first which was really pretty good. I've never seen a shop with this much coffee related items for sale, that was really impressive. The only reason I bumped it Down a star was from my lacking interaction with the employee who made my coffee. I tried to make small talk that was met with completely no response each time, something I haven't experienced anywhere before. Maybe she was having a bad day? When you want to step away from your normal drive thru coffee shop...stop in and check out Daybreak. I remember going here with my mom as a teenager. They roast their coffee fresh and you can come in and get a bag either ground or whole bean. You can also purchase Harney & Sons teas and some other tea varieties. You can grab breakfast or lunch along with coffee, teas and hot cocoa for your morning or afternoon commute. There are plenty of tables and chairs inside as well as outside. This place is always hopping. This morning was chilly so I got a nice filling Bacon, Egg & Cheese and you can tell it's homemade even has chives in the egg. And the sourdough bread it nice and light you'll feel satisfied and not to overstuffed. I love their Matcha Latte you can get it straight up blueberry or Ginger . All options are good. I went with Ginger Tumeric version with good ole cow's milk. But you'll have a choice of milk, almond milk or soy milk if are tempted to try it yourself. So if your in the area stop on in. FYI, they make their sandwiches with Boar's Head Meats and some of those sandwich options look pretty tasty I think I might be back for lunch. read more

I don't know, guys, I wasn't super impressed. I was quite excited to try Daybreak based on all the doting reviews, and because the last time I was in the building it was a pharmacy and I was five years old getting my ears pierced. However, it just didn't resonate with me. I ordered a "for here" chai, and was half-greeted by a conglomerate of young employees, none of whom seemed to know what their role was behind the counter. The resulting chai was made well, but not well enough that I'd want to order it again. The seating in the back was less than cozy, and the flow of customers made it feel more rushed than relaxed. You guys seem to love this place, so I'm going to have to give it another go or two, perhaps order some food, and post up in front this time. But for now, I just feel very blah about it. read more

Foam, foam, and oh yeah--foam. After a solid few seconds of taking my first sip of a latte, I actually reached the drink itself under the mountain of foam that was on top. When did lattes have that much foam? Isn't that more of a cappuccino? I was confused taking my drinks from the pick-up counter, thinking it was an added topping [whipped cream]; but tasting its tastelessness I realized that it was foam. Bleh. I am breaking away from spending my day and money at Daybreak. My friend and I stopped in to Daybreak on a Saturday afternoon to grab some coffee to try it after seeing such great reviews. After waiting a moment for our order to be taken, we asked about how many shots of flavor are in each size. We ordered two lattes (one cinnamon flavored and one regular) and proceeded to wait for at least fifteen minutes for one chai to come out, then another ten minutes for the two lattes. I picked up my lattes, finally, and got confused for a split second, during which the barista who made our drinks looks slightly confused (while being overwhelmed), too. I thought for that moment it was just whipped cream on top, only to find it was tasteless and just milk foam. Yuck. Even when I got to the cinnamon latte part after making my way through the foam with my upper lip, I found the espresso and milk masked greatly with cinnamon. I could not find the espresso taste at all. I tried the plain latte and, again going through the foam, found it was not very well-crafted. My friend tried to doctor her dirty, as I did with the plain latte with various condiments, and found hers was too heavy in espresso (though she clarified only a small shot of espresso in ordering) and not sweet at all. Each beverage was really undrinkable. The prices are somewhat higher than other coffee shops, and considering the quality of the drinks and the amount of foam on top of the drinks, I find them overpriced. I was charged 75 cents for one shot of cinnamon (though it tasted more like four shots). Even if the service was friendly and efficient, I would have not minded the prices, but it was not unfortunately. The staff was not very friendly and seemed overwhelmed by the crowds. The pastries cases--and the separate case for chocolates and coffee to go (again, I am confused because it is not well-marked)--was almost empty with few treats to have with the coffee ordered and long-waited for. I asked one other customer who placed her order shortly after us while we were all waiting for our drinks if she had been to Daybreak before and if it always took this long; she said it does take a little time, though this seemed to be long, too. If it took any longer and had I not paid yet, I probably would have walked out. With foamy and not so jazzy lattes and service that did not impress, I will likely not be returning to Daybreak. I was very disappointed and underwhelmed by the quality of the drinks, pastry selection, and service. read more

I was driving home from Middletown, made a wrong turn, and somehow wound up in Glastonbury today. The temperature outside being in the 80's, and the temp in my unairconditioned car feeling like 99, I was in desperate need of a great iced coffee. I hadn't been in Glastonbury in about 2 years, but remembered I'd seen non-chain coffee houses, so I drove around and spotted Daybreak Coffee Roasters. The place looks so small from the outside, but I opened the door and was amazed at how huge the place is inside. Of course, I had to look around at everything before walking to the back to order my coffee. I ordered a large decaf coffee and had the barista put a shot of hazelnut and a shot of chocolate in it. Wow, it was great! The syrups weren't fake tasting at all and only added a depth to the iced coffee. I normally put a lot of milk and creamer in my coffee, but it was so good on its own that I didn't add that much light creamer. After stopping by the truffle display. ..I've never seen such adorably cute truffles before, I resisted buying a few because of the Temps in my hot car...I went outside and chilled out at one of the umbrella tables and enjoyed my coffee. I will definitely make the trip to Daybreak Coffee Roasters at least once a week. It's a true coffee experience not to be missed! The drive from Vernon isn't that bad anyway! read more

I've been going to Daybreak for upwards of 15 years now. I can't say enough about the place! Besides having very friendly staff (who will learn your name after a while) this place has pretty good prices and there's never a huge line. I usually come in for a quick cup but sometimes I have brought my laptop to do work. They have great coffee beans and a selection of teas. Try the Ethiopian coffees - it doesn't get any better than that! I can't think of anything negative about the place, other than sometimes it gets crowded in terms of tables. There are only about 8 tables there, and so if you go at peak times you may not be able to find seating. One thing they could improve on is the hours, especially in the evening. Daybreak could be a a great spot to enjoy a gelato or something at night but they close at 6. So definitely seek out Daybreak if you want a cup of coffee in Glastonbury. I'm not usually in the Glastonbury area, but last week I happened to be driving past Daybreak when I remembered that Yelpers had suggested it to me in a recent message board conversation! So I did a quick u-turn and found a great parking spot right along Main Street. The store itself is dark and cozy, smells wonderful, and the walls are lined with gourmet coffee/tea-related gifts. I walked past an incredibly tempting display of fancy truffles that seemed to beckon me, but I knew I needed to try the coffee first and foremost. But after reading Emily C.'s thoughts on the chocolates, I know I'll be back! I was actually on my way to my parents' place, so I ordered a double espresso, cappuccino, and coconut coffee (with steamed milk) to go. I do wish I could have sat and enjoyed my coffee in the store rather than rushing off. The coffee tasted nice! Reminds me of Kevin's Coffee Roasters in Vernon, which I also like. Overall, Daybreak is a cute place with good coffee. read more

Good coffee, but not great and I find the atmosphere stifiling. Good place to grab something to go, but not a good place to sit and chat-- bein a city boy at heart, I expect that from a good coffee shop. If I'm gonna pay for a relatively expensive coffee and I'm gonna drink it there, I expect to be paying for a comfortable or at least laid-back atmosphere too. Which is why I'd rather go to a Dunkin Donuts to drink a coffee than this place-- coffee may not be as good, but it's still got caffeine, it's cheaper, and although it may not have big couches and good music it's certainly a more comfortable place to have a conversation than Daybreak. But mostly what I got against this place (and almost gave it one star as a result) was a particular incident with one of the clerks. My phone rang in the middle of a major crisis I had to contain-- people's livelihoods at stake-- and while ordering the clerk just glared at me then when ringing me up added a "cell phone annoyance" charge (it flashed across the screen as he rung it up). This crisis was too big for me to hang up the phone and argue with the bum over it, so I paid for the coffee and ran. Now I understand why some coffee shops and restaurants have a "no cell phone" policy-- otherwise you have to listen to some jackass blabbing on a walkie-talkie Nextel about last night's American Idol results. But if you're going to have that policy, it needs to be clearly posted on a BIG sign so everyone knows the rules-- otherwise don't scowl at me and then try stealing my friggin 10 cents or however much it was. I don't recall ever seeing a sign prohibiting or otherwise limiting cell-phone use that day or before. If I ever go back there it will be for one time-- to get my dime back. Discounting the incident and general atmosphere of the place, however, I would give the coffee itself between 3 and 4 stars. Good selection if nothing else and the one good thing I'll say about the Daybreak's atmosphere is that the coffee aroma certainly does smell pleasing upon entering-- always a good sign. read more

The aroma of this shop, redolent with the scent of roasting coffee beans, is proof positive of a beneficent Creator - I could stand here and just breathe it in all day. Or better yet, I could order some coffee and drink some. I've enjoyed both the service at the counter where you purchase coffee by the pound, and also at the coffee and pastry counter. In both places, the staff is attentive to the details. After asking me about what I like in coffee, for example, the young woman helping me with my order of just a couple pounds made sure to ask about the coffee maker I'd be using, so she'd have the grind just right. Likewise at the fresh-brewed counter, the staff made sure to ask if I'd be adding milk to the cup. These are small details and easily forgotten, but it's so delightful to see people who anticipate my needs better than I do. A colleague and I sampled the blueberry muffins the other day as well, and they got those just right, too, with plenty of sweetness in the blueberries and a light, fluffy texture. We found a small table, stirred our coffees, listened to the gentle bean-bag rattle of the coffee roaster at work, happily chased down every crumb of the muffins, and had a good conversation in that comfortable setting. And every once in a while, the conversation lagged just as bit, as we sat and just breathed. read more
