Came here for date night. You choose to order a two-course meal or a three-course (which is the two-course + dessert). And you pick from a short list of options for each course. My girlfriend had the Braised Short Rib to start, and the Scallops in Bearnaise sauce for main. I had the Pork Belly starter, Goat Ragu main and an Old Fashioned. Everything tasted amazing, but the best dish was definitely the Pork Belly. Perfectly cooked; crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Great service. After the club go to Days on Front for sloppy steaks. They'd say; 'no sloppy steaks' but they can't stop you from ordering a steak and a glass of water, before you knew it we were dumping that water on those steaks! I had a wonderful experience. Was on the way to Quebec City for a road trip and decided to stop by. The food was very great and the service was excellent. Environment is very clean. I always check the washroom's condition of the restaurant. If the washroom is clean, you can assume the sanitary condition of the restaurant is not bad. The price is very acceptable as well. I think it's actually better than a lot of restaurants found here in Toronto. read more

Favourite restaurant on Kingston's West end. You pretty much always need a reservation. Food is local, and you can taste the difference. The beet salad is the best salad I've ever had, and the dressing is out of this world. The short rib is our go-to, and it's the most amazing melt in your mouth, fall apart beef I've ever had. Served over delicious mashed potatoes. I branched out and ordered the pasta last time, even though the waiter (and everyone at the table) warned me it was very spicy. Holy moly it was the spiciest pasta I've ever eaten, and I could not finish/enjoy since my mouth was on fire the entire time. No big deal, I just won't order that again. As for dessert, the cheesecake alone is worth coming for. I love when fruit and chocolate collide, so the fact that the cheesecake is served on a tart mashed raspberry sauce is incredible! I'm surprised Days on Front hasn't had a Yelp review given that it's #1 on TripAdvisor (at times #2). I really wanted to give this 4.5. I think it's 5 in Kingston, but 4 on a broader sense of what it tries to be. It's "Canadian" cuisine, with a more upscale/fine-dining ambiance...more something you'd find in the Toronto scene. It's a good pick to take your parents when they're in town, as was the case the night of convocation when I went with my family, and the place was saturated with my classmates. I only heard about the place from a friend after a prof brought it to her attention. The reason that it's flown under the radar is likely it's location - it's not downtown so from campus, you'd need a car to get there. At its price point, the food is very good: -Got their raspberry mojito as my drink - very refreshing. -I got the chef's feature, which was mahi mahi with a very interesting salad. Don't remember all the ingredients, but pickled leek stood out for me. Salad was better than the protein in my opinion. -Sister got the poutine with short ribs and brie - I think this challenges Chien Noir's duck confit poutine. -Dad got steak+fries - Chien noir does it better, especially the frites -Mom got the pasta dish, which I didn't try, but she said it was good Definitely recommend this place if it's accessible to you. We had a table res but we were early and decided to sit at the small bar. Nobody else was sitting there so to us it seemed like a big table! It's fun to speak with the people behind the bar and Mr. Cole was a great host! The food was scrumptious - I had sirloin of lamb with some really good couscous. Ms. Elle had a salad with steak. This is one of my fav places in Kingston. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is always buzzing, the prices are very treasonable and.... if you can't finish that bottle of wine, it will be corked and you can take it joke with you! Woohoo! Having worked in this industry in my younger years, I know how much hard work it is. Kudos to Matt Day, owner and chef. This young man knows the meaning of hard work and what it means to greet a customer. He is actively involved in the restaurant all of the time. He buzzes from the kitchen to the bar to the restaurant dining area delivering plates, clearing tables, chatting with customers, interacting with his staff... he drops everything the minute someone enters the restaurant and makes a bee line to greet them. I admire and highly respect people who truly know how to make a restaurant great. If you are wondering what is tasty on the menu, try it all! You will not be disappointed, only very satisfying full and very content. An ideal location for locals (I am one and only live a five min drive away) but also perfect for visitors to Kingston without a vehicle. The express bus direct from downtown will take you almost to the front door! Here's hoping this business continues to thrive!! All they need now is some live music and they have it made! Although... having said that, the restaurant is already buzzing with chatter and friends enjoying good times that the music may drown out these good conversations. Days on Front has become our "go to" special occasion restaurant. We've had most items on the menu, and they are consistently good. (I wish they still had the fresh perch though.) Matt Day, the avuncular owner (or co-owner?), has been there almost every time we've visited. This is definitely one of the top two restaurants in Kingston's west end. read more

The location of the restaurant kind of reminds me of cava in Toronto. It's in a tiny mall next to laundry and clinics where you expect 5.99 lunch specials but the inside is nice. Service is good. I had beet salad and flat iron steak this time. Very solid work, steak is nicely done. read more

So I finally got around to trying Day's after hearing lots of good word of mouth. My partner and I regularly dine at Aqua Terra, so we expected the food would be on-par or even better! I really anticipated something special...unfortunately, though the food tastes good, the dining experience fell flat for me. Pros: - Great*tasting food - nicely priced wine list with good selections - fast, prompt, friendly service - free parking - somewhat odd but convenient location Cons: -Food tastes great* because it's full of fat, sugar and salt; my tongue was left seared by the sheer amount of salt in my food (duck salad, steak frites). I still feel dehydrated nearly 24 hours later. -Menu is quite narrow -decor is dark, kind of drab; seats are pleather that will leave you a sweaty mess; kind of lacking appealing ambience; absolutely no windows or view in the place (which, while not essential, can be nice). -service, though prompt, can feel almost rushed (most probably would find this a pro, but I like a more relaxed dining pace) -even though we asked for decaf coffee, we are quite sure it was regular...we were literally up all night after our meal! This is so not cool! Basically, my partner and I enjoyed our food while we were eating, but were not keen on the after-effects. Other diners may not find this a problem, but for the price, I expected a dining experience that was both more refined and exclusive. I know this is Matt Day's first independent venture and all businesses go through growing pains, but I'm afraid I'll be spending my dining dollars elsewhere for a while. read more

This place is full of WIN. It sprang from Aquaterra, but I think it is in fact way better than Aquaterra at this point. Great service, great food, nice ambience, though not cheap. I love that we are finally getting some decent food away from the downtown Kingston hub. Now let me warn you if you're going there for the first time, it is located at a most "un-assuming" plaza. It's not in the kind of area where you'd expect to find a decent restaurant. That said, the food is fantastic. Not the absolute best I've ever had, but very acceptable for Kingston standards. This is a beautiful spot. Personaly I love their sausages with cheese oozing out. Burgers are delicious and fried are crisp to perfection. Atmosphere is breathtaking. Plenty of parking in rear of building. The view is spectacular which brought me on my knees. I loved bending over at the window to see the beautiful lake. I'm definitely going back. Delicious. Came for dinner tonight with my partner. We ate scallops, Ceaser salad, beef tenderloin and duck confit. Ceaser salad wasn't amazing, had it better at other restaurants (casa dominica has a great one). Croutons were buttery and delicious though. Scallops were great, not as they were once made, all one sauce beneath them, instead of each scallop having a different flavour. Confit wasn't out of this world, was a pulled duck- so you couldn't actually tell if it was confied or not. Gnocchi was delicious. The beef was tender, potato side it comes with was yummy as well the two sauces on the plate. All in all, very good, great menu, enjoyed the atmosphere and service rocked. read more

My wife and I have eaten at Days a number of times, and each time we go the service and quality of food are consistently high. This is a hidden gem in Kingston. My favourite dish is the banana bread pudding........awesome. Also not widely known is the corkage ($10) and discount coupons at Costco, which basically cover the server's tip........service has always been attentive without being intrusive. Why not 5 stars? Phenomenal food. Great, friendly service. Small menu is PERFECT...we weren't overwhelmed by it. (A few more gluten free options would be nice...) Lovely dining area (minus the pleather/leather seats in the booths...sticky). Good atmosphere, quiet, dim but not too dim. No view, but with the surrounding area, that's probably a good thing. No, I'm not able to recommend this place. Haute cuisine meets comfort food (mac'n'cheese, poutine), for a hefty price? No, thanks. I had a very good asparagus soup, then a beef tenderloin, very well cooked and very tasty, but the sauce was very sweet. Different from my wife: her steak frites was way too salty. The desert was cheesecake and was too runny to be good. The wine list was short, the menu very restrictive. The ambiance so-so, decor nondescript, the location poor: a rundown strip mall in the middle of nowhere. Service good. Airconditioning turned on the bare minimum for one of the hottest days of the summer... Altogether, too expensive for what we got. read more

As a student in Kingston I don't make it out to the West end very often, but Days on Front is always worth the drive. It's a super casual fine dining restraint with very knowledgeable staff, great food and a good selection of wine and beer. I always end up getting a dish of the Mac and cheese, but their calamari and scallops are also really good. Would definitely recommend and is for sure worth the trip from downtown. read more

They have some excellent high end dishes such as duck or salmon, as well as original takes on comfort food such as ribs or mac and cheese. My husband and I have enjoyed numerous meals here with family and friends and have never been disappointed. This night, four of us were there celebrating birthdays. Our hostess was extremely nice and she promptly brought our drinks. Finally, our orders arrived, everyone's dish looked amazing but when my salmon dish arrived my heart sank. The fish was over cooked and the presentation looked very unappealing. The taste was bland and I couldn't continue. The server came by to inquire how we were doing, I told her I was disappointed , and to my surprise she apologized, whisked it away and said pick another dish. Shortly, she came back with a delicious plate of short ribs. Also, our desserts were not added to the bill. The professional way that this server handled the situation was truly appreciated. She did not make me feel at all uncomfortable. Congratulations to Days On Front , we will definitely return and are happy to recommend this restaurant. Bravo for a job well done! read more
