I found DBS Electric on Yelp and this is when I'm really grateful for this site, otherwise, I would be going into this completely blind. The power kept going out at my house and I finally had to call someone because I realized there's a lot you can't do without any electricity. I called him at 7:30 in the morning (he "opens" at 8) and he called me back in about 30 minutes. Told him the situation and he said he would be in my area on another project and would let me know if he could come by. He came out and adjusted something, walked me through what he was doing and then told me to call him if I needed anything, but he wasn't going to charge me for coming out. I had to call him back because it happened again and he said he would come out again to do the option #2 fix, which was to clean up my main breaker, put some grease on it and hope for the best. Otherwise, it was a replacement and that was going to be more expensive and would not be happening anytime soon with a lack of replacement parts (obsolete breaker). I had called SCE in the meantime who came out to check to make sure nothing happened on their end. I've learned that if you have a complete power outage, tell them you have NO electricity, or else it'll be "3-5 business days," which is crazy. Richard from Edison came out and looked at everything, basically confirmed what Doug said, which was reassuring and also told me what Doug probably might be doing to address the problem. Doug did exactly what he said he was going to do earlier, and which Edison also said, which was kind of reassuring since I know nothing about electricity. Doug seemed like a straight up guy from the beginning, but it was nice having that verification from SCE. Overall, Doug was courteous, set expectations accordingly, explained everything thoroughly as he was doing it and showed me what was going on. He also said I could get a second opinion if needed, and never pressured me to do anything, and answered any and all questions I had. When I called, he said it was about $89 for a service call just to see what was going on. At the end of the day, I paid under $300 for the repair, and was glad I did so. I thought it was reasonable for the amount of time he put in (making three trips to my house), and great thing was he called the next morning to follow up and make sure everything was okay. He takes Visa or Mastercard which was nice and I got a receipt emailed to me the same night. Hopefully I'll never have to see him again for this same reason, but if I ever need anything else, I've already added him to my contacts list for house stuff! read more

Doug has done some small electrical jobs for our house twice now. Once to replace a broken can light and recently to replace 5 switches tied to J boxes. Both times he came in and assessed the problem quickly, made a run to Home Depot, and fixed it within an hour or so, very reasonable rates. Great guy, friendly, and knows his stuff. If you're like me and hate to get shocked and fear electrical handiwork, call him. He's been able to come by fairly quickly in both cases since my jobs are small but he has a great attitude and loves to teach if you want to learn. read more

Doug is so great! We were hosting Christmas Eve for our family and the lightning in the garage went out. We have such a big family that the garage becomes a needed hangout area. Well I'm a sucker for a red headed man who can fix things. Doug came out to install a 110 volt plug for us and he did an awesome job. He had an assistant with him to help move out the washer/dryer unit to get behind it and they didn't bitch about it at all. Doug and his assistant were both very manly and crafty. If my mom wasn't here with me, I would have fulfilled one of my fantasies to seduce a serviceman after he got good and sweaty on the job. Judging by the other reviews, it would seem Doug is a great electrician - IF he troubles himself to call back and does the work - but that's a very big IF. I had the same experience as several other reviewers. I called him and he called me a couple of times and we missed each other as often happens. I placed the last call to him and told him to please call again - I really needed to schedule the work. He never called back. Unreliable/irresponsible. It's probably just as well. I'm better off than I would have been if he started a job, left for the day, and decided he didn't feel like coming back. I ended up having Ace Electric do the job and they were great! read more

Great service, my electrical switch was replaced quickly. The switch controlled my fireplace and I was soooooo sad that it would click off after a few minutes so I couldn't use it. Called DBS Electric (Doug) after finding them & reading the reviews on Yelp. After quoting me his hourly rate & how long he thought he would be at my place working, I gave him the okay & within two hours he was at my place diagnosing my electrical problem (flickering lights & sparking from my electrical panel). He did what he could to 'quick fix' the issue and told me I would need a replace my entire electrical panel in the future. He quoted me a price and told me that he would credit the work for the quick fix, if and when I decided to replace my panel. Doug was upfront, professional and very honest. Before deciding on replacing my panel I talked to Doug a couple of times and he was very patient in answering every question I had for him. Within a week I called him to schedule the work to be done. We picked a date that was two weeks later. He was on time, and completed the work quickly, which was welcomed as it was a very hot day and the thought of the house being without power for an extended period of time with my wife and daughter at home was not a pleasant thought at all. He even installed a larger panel in the house than what was there before in case we needed to expand in the future. I highly recommend DBS Electric for any electrical work that you need to get done. I'm reviewing because I wanted to provide some feedback on my experience. I started on a project to install a ceiling fan and was stuck with some wiring issues. I started to call around to see if there was any electricians available on short notice on a Saturday. I called DBS and although they weren't able to come out and assist me they spent about 20 minutes talking to me on the phone to help me through my problem, which allowed me to complete the project myself and not have to wait till Monday for them to come out. This is above and beyond what I would have expected from anyone, and I want to truly say thank you. I will need an electrician again at some point and I will be calling on DBS. read more

Doug is the best!! DBS would be my first call everytime. He quickly found the problem and fixed it, all the while explaining what he is finding and answering my questions. I'll usually try to fix the problem if it is just replacing a breaker but after trying that, the issue was much bigger as we had many outlets and lights out through-out the house. Doug arrived on-time and went right to work finding the problem in short order. He spent way over an hour but only charged us for one hour. A very fair businessman and a great electrician. I think it's ridiculous to be open for business and when a potential customer calls, you make a decision not to call back. We called this guy a little over a week ago, but he didn't have the decency to return our call. We explained the problem on his voicemail, left our phone number twice, and asked if we could get a ballpark estimate on price and time it would take to get the job done. It was just for replacing one outlet. I imagine that the job was too small for mr. bigshot. If this were my business and if I was very busy, I would call the customer back and explain that it would take me a couple of weeks to get to it...but to flat out ignore someone is very rude. I would never call this guy again based on being ignored. I called a handyman instead who gave me a great price. If he shows up as scheduled and does a great job, I will write him up, so stay tuned. read more

I called Doug to install 2 ceiling fans (not just change existing ones but drill/rewire/the works). He was on time, very helpful, reasonable, did excellent work, and was funny as all hell. He explained everything in detail and I felt comfortable having him in my house. After the fans, I had him fix a shotty job my handyman did (note, doesn't waste time with a handyman) and hide my tv cords behind the wall. I thought I had a bad GFI, or perhaps a bad circuit breaker, that was tripped and would not switch back on again. I spoke to Doug this morning, after calling 4 other electricians. The other electricians all wanted to come out and charge me a flat fee, to look at my problem. Doug took the time to ask me questions on the problem. Doug is so honest and professional. I had some outlets not working and called him initially to book an appointment. He tried to help me over the phone as he first suspected a tripped GFI. I tried resetting some of the GFI's nearby the broken outlets and it didn't work. He came for a service call and it turns out it was me forgetting to reset one of the circuit breakers. He initially moved a few outlets for me and then installed a couple of resessed lights above my island as well as installed a dimmer for them for a very reasonable price. Doug is AMAZING!!! Absolutely the BEST electrician in town!! He came over last weekend to fix a ballast in one of my parents' bathrooms, and not only that, he fixed the electrical wiring that connected both of them together. Before this, my parents have had their share of really bad electricians, who "claimed" they knew that they were doing... mainly people they found through word-of-mouth. Literally the power outlets broke the next week! I think they just gave up at one point and started using a halogen lamp in the bathroom instead, which was awkward! We tried going the cheaper route when we upgraded our electric panel but ended up badly because it never passed city inspection. The guy we used only made it worse by compromising the structure of our home. When I called Doug, I was desperate and afraid to get ripped off again. Doug was great! He took charge and fixed the panel, git it passed by the city and charged us fair for the extensive work need (he even gave us some free materials and did extra work without charging us-SCORE!!!). I recently bought a condo built in the 1960s that needed a bit of work. I had mentally prepared myself to replace the old electrical panel first and then make some other upgrades and repairs if I could afford them after that. I called Doug from DBS and he came out first thing on a Friday morning to take a look at everything and give me an estimate. Doug arrived on time and went through all of my concerns with me in detail. And I mean IN DETAIL. My boyfriend knows a bit about electrical work so I basically tuned out while they were talking. Doug gave us honest opinions on everything I wanted to accomplish. It turns out that I didn't need a new electrical panel! Mine was old, however, it was still in perfect condition. He was honest when he told me what I did and did not need and I trusted his opinion. Ended up making an appointment to have the panel cleaned, an electrical outlet installed, and a botched GFI installation (by another electrician) fixed so I could use my garbage disposal again. The price was what I was quoted. It may have been a little bit higher than what some other electricians charge but I am willing to pay a little more to have the work done right the first time. Doug is an honest, knowledgeable and helpful electrician. We lost electricity to part of our house when we were vacuuming the upstairs. I checked the plug where the vacuum was plugged in and didn't see an issue. Finally, I picked Doug from Yelp reviews and called one morning. He was in San Diego working on a project but took the time to listen and give some advice and predicted the problem was a loose ground somewhere. He fit me into his schedule for a couple of days later and warned me that it may take time to find the source. He came on Thursday and meticulously traced the problem to its source which was a loose ground in an outlet in a room we no longer use. More than being thorough, he was very helpful in teaching us how to trace the problem and about the electrical wiring in our house. I learned a lot that day! Here it is a year later, I hired DBS to install a 220v outside weatherproof outlet for a welding machine, I am so happy with this guy's work. Not only are you going to get an electrician, but you are going to get a real craftsman. Doug is honest about his work (he doesn't gouge) and his quality is superb. After watching Doug install the outlet it is clear to me that this guy really knows what he is doing. read more
