From the moment you pull up, they make the whole process feel easy and stress-free. One thing I really appreciate as a woman in my 20s is that they actually take the time to explain everything they're doing and walk you through the service without making you feel uncomfortable or pressured. Unfortunately, I know a lot of women my age feel nervous going to car service places alone because it can feel intimidating or like you're being taken advantage of. I never once felt that way here. They were honest, patient, and genuinely helpful. The customer service is honestly top tier. They even offer you a water while your car is being serviced, which is such a small thing but makes the experience feel that much more thoughtful. The fact that you stay in your car the whole time is also a huge plus. The service is quick, efficient, and the staff keeps the conversation going so the time flies by. I was able to get my oil changed and still have enough time to grab lunch all within my one-hour break from work. I came back to the office talking nonstop about how great my experience was. I'll definitely keep coming back to Take 5 and recommending them to everyone I know!

However, this morning my husband noticed that the employees had not properly secured the engine splash shield/underbody cover, and that part of the car fell off. We feel very disappointed because we have been bringing our cars to you for a long time. We understand that the employees may be new and still learning, but they need to receive more training to make sure things like this do not happen. We hope you can take this situation seriously and make sure your employees receive the proper training, because we would really like to continue being customers, but we need to feel confident that our vehicles are being properly serviced.

Other services are offered or recommended with a quick explanation of why and how often they recommend them, as well as a good estimate of how much time it will take to add these services to the oil change service, but no pressure to do them once turned down.

Here's a professional tip and how it's done: You're due for an oil change, you pour Liquid Moly Engine flush into your vehicle just outside of Calbest, let it idle per instructions, then get your Groupon cheapest oil change, drive the vehicle for a day or so to loosen more sludge and to rinse the solvents out of the engine. Then go to Valvoline in Pasadena across from Whole Foods and see what a top quality oil change looks like. Yes, Calbest takes longer and might be a waste of time to save ~$50 but I never feel guilty tossing out new oil & filter after just 50 miles or less when going there. The saving about pay for the engine flush. You're welcome.

I knew exactly what I wanted, 215/60R16 Michelin Defender2s, but I still needed a shop willing to execute the setup correctly. They handled the unusual fitment without turning it into a problem. The wheels were mounted and balanced properly, the different front and rear hardware was handled correctly, and the car came out smooth and completely vibration-free. The difference is remarkable. The car is quieter inside, much better over broken LA pavement, and still feels planted and sharp at freeway speeds. This was the final piece of a longer suspension build, and their work made the whole setup come together. If you know what you want, or have something outside the usual factory-size tire swap, these are guys I would trust to do the work right.

UPDATE: Returning to update this review after another experience that confirms my original warning…read more Months after my first visit here, I discovered the technician had overtightened my oil drain plug so severely that two other shops could not remove it without specialized tools. One actually broke their tool trying. I came back to Midas Monrovia to have them fix the damage they caused. The service manager, Justin, verbally agreed the repair would be complimentary since it was their error. I authorized the work on that basis. When it was done, he handed me a $99 invoice and claimed I had "misunderstood". That only removing the plug was free, not the oil change itself. This was never communicated before the work began. When I asked for Midas corporate's phone number, he told me they didn't have it. Classic bait and switch. I've disputed the charge with my bank and filed complaints with Midas corporate, the BBB, and the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. Avoid this shop.

He also stayed completely professional and never made negative comments about the original installer -- he simply focused on fixing the issue and making sure my vehicle was safe. They found some toe-out in the front alignment and redid the zero-point EPS calibration -- no charge, since they'd done the initial alignment. That kind of follow-through says a lot. What stood out most is Steve himself -- down to earth, genuinely knowledgeable (especially on shocks/suspension), and not once did I feel like I was being upsold. He cared about actually solving the problem, not just closing the ticket.
