I recently got takeout from DCity and it was ok. I got two of the Ribs and Wings combo, which each come with 1/2 lbs spare ribs, 1/2 dozen smoked wings, and 1 small side for $23. We got spiced fries and fried brussels sprouts as sides. They also included a bunch of side sauces, like bbq sauce, ketchup, spicy mayo, and a green sauce. All of the food seemed to be seasoned with the exact same dry rub spice mix, which was largely brown sugar and some other spices. This made all the food taste similar and kind of boring. It was not a great spice blend. The wings (six total: half drums, half flats) and the ribs (three total) were all cooked pretty well and pretty tender. The fries reminded me of Five Guys fries because they had similar cut, thickness, and crispiness (not very crispy, but okay). The brussels were pretty good, probably the single best thing, and were also a pretty large portion. I think the value was decent for the price, although next time I'll consider the half rack of ribs ($19) instead. I would visit again if convenient but wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Me and my spouse are here yesterday for the first time and we enjoyed it! He had a bbq sandwich (pork) and I had brisket a la carte. We split two sides---the potato salad and collard greens (both large) and the large is very big! We had leftovers. We enjoyed the food. The greens are sweet got a kick, I liked them a lot but some traditionalists might not go for it. But try them! The potato salad was just okay. They have a little bar and they got multiple daiquiri machines going. The daiquiris were kinda high--$20 and $30. We had lemonade and sweet tea. The service was excellent! This is a good casual summer time spot. There's an ample covered patio area and some tables outside. We found parking easily though this is right on Florida ave, side streets packed with cars. read more

This place is really a DC go to for BBQ, and we are lucky to have them. A bit pricey maybe but well worth it.

I don't crave American BBQ very often (I prefer kbbq usually) but DCity is so close to where I live, so I decided to try it on a whim one day and fell in love. It's unassuming from the outside, but it's cozy and homey inside. I've enjoyed everything I've tried so far, some more than others, but you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. - Smokehouse meat platter: I usually get this with brisket and brussels sprouts, and for my second side I try something new. The brisket is SO juicy and tender! It comes with pickles too, which my pickle-hating partner says are the only pickles he likes. The brussels sprouts are roasted perfectly and I love the chipotle dipping sauce it comes with. - Original pulled pork sandwich: The pulled pork is so tender and flavorful, and I love how the cole slaw balances everything out with a cool crunch. The potato bun is also sooo soft and absorbs all that juicy flavor from the meat. - Smokehouse melt: The brisket is an even thicker cut than what's in the platter, and the cheese pull was so beautiful. They put just the right amount of bbq sauce too so it didn't overpower the brisket. It did end up being a little too heavy for me by the end, so I stopped eating the crust and just focused on the meat lol. - Spiced fries: Potatoes are life. These aren't thin cut, which is usually my preference, and instead more like Five Guys sized. Their fries are cooked perfectly though so it doesn't have that overly potato-y texture (like steak fries, one of my least fav potatoes). I love the spice which adds just a lil kick. - Cole slaw: This was a refreshing side to balance out the meat and bbq sauce, though nothing to write home about (but to be fair, this is not my area of expertise). - Mac and jack cheese: This wasn't as cheesy as I was expecting but I still liked it. Definitely can't compete with the brussels sprouts for the title of Best Side Dish. In addition to amazing food, the owner has to be the nicest guy EVER. He's super friendly with both regular and new customers, and always makes a point to say hi to my partner and I when we dine in. The vibe is so different when he's there vs when he's not - it's fun, warm, and high energy, and really feels like such a welcoming little local joint. He also plays the best throwback r&b jams! I really enjoyed dining at DCity Smokehouse! As we all know, DINInG-IN during Covid times is interesting. Especially, as the weather starts to make a turn for cold. I felt this spot practiced social distancing and had great customer service! My girlfriend is from Louisiana and she kept raving about the food! She and I met there for dinner (Wednesday night - Dec 9th ) and I was impressed. It wasn't crowded and it was a steady flow of people. They have an igloo like feel for the outdoor eating area. The indoor area was fairly warm and chill. Marcus was the server and bartender and his service was exceptional. He kept our table clear, checked in often, and was very attentive. I ordered the ribs and smoked chicken combo. For my side, I ordered Brussels sprouts. It was Amazing !!!!! Attached to the restaurant, is District Daiquiri. We had the Hennessy /Mango daiquiri. They were tasty and I left with a good buzz! Although , Street Parking is interesting around there. I plan to go back very soon. read more

UPDATE: Ok, so since my initial 5-star review, we've been back 2 additional times and reordered the same items. Both times everything was 5-star EXCEPT the rib tips! How can you mess up your flagship item??? These last 2 visits, the rib tips were wayyyyy overcooked, dry, and you couldn't really chew the meat! It's like we were given rib scraps. This is so frustrating because our initial order was out of this world. Be consistent. IF we come back, we will open and inspect what was given to us before we leave the premises; it shouldn't be this way but for now I would take back my 5-star review and give DCitySmokehouse a 3-star review. read more

Hands down this is one of my favorite local restaurants in DC and I've been a patron since they were at a previous location in what is now known as Truxton Circle. The Florida Ave location in is perfection when you think of a go-to local spot. It's on a corner with some outdoor seating, indoor covered/heated seating and the tables in the restaurant and at the bar. They have a wide variety of smoked foods (chicken, turkey, brisket, ribs, oxtail) and I've tried just about everything on their menu all of it being so delicious you're sad when you've reached your last bite (I often consider ordering something extra to go). Today, we stopped here after an event at union market and we shared the smoked wings, Mac n' cheese, spicy collard greens, and Brussel sprouts with pineapple Jarritos. The food came out quickly and we were given lots of extra barbecue sauce (my boyfriend loooooves it). Everything was well seasoned with a good temperature. A server checked on us multiple times and even offered us water for our dog (we were sitting at the covered patio) . DCity continues to remain a top barbeque spot in DC. Had a lovely meal on the picnic tables outside recently; it was serene and yummy. The smoked chicken wings are still top notch. Even more intense smoke flavor is possible after refrigerating them for a day or two. The smoked brisket almost borders on my Mom's Sunday night pot roast; a throwback. The cheddar jalapeno grits are insanely creamy. The house barbeque sauce is improved, not as harsh as before. I don't like to give bad ratings, so I'll be as nice as possible. Sunday, instead of lighting my grill, I decided to treat myself to some Rib Tips! I asked if the Rib tips were tender and the woman said yes, would you like to try one? I replied, yes. I must admit it was tender, moist and well seasoned!! I ordered 1 pound of Rib Tips to go. This place is 17 minute from my home. Arrived home and rushing to dig in. I was not only disappointed, but pissed. The Rib Tips were TOUGH AS NAILS.... I was mad after spending my money at this place. All I could think at that time, they got me. Why was the 1 Rib Tip I tried, tender, moist and well seasoned and nothing like the crap I took home? One thing for sure, I will never step another foot in this place. You don't deserve 1 star. I also asked about the Brisket sandwich and she said it was $18 and I told her no and so happy that I did. So sad to see how far downhill DCity has come. When I first moved here, this little hole in the wall, local bbq spot was the best in the district. Now, almost anything you order, whether it's wings, ribs, brisket, etc. it's terribly dry, flavorless, and overcooked. I stopped ordering traditional bbq items years ago, but I've continued to order their sandwiches because they had a special place in my heart. No more. I just tried to eat a sandwich that had the driest, rubber sole pieces of turkey I've ever had in my adult life. I had two bites and threw the rest away. This was a pretty good BBQ spot. Atmosphere gave a very backyard BBQ on a Saturday afternoon feel. There were a few options that I wanted off the menu so it took a minute to decide. As I always do when trying a new place for the first time. I ended up getting the smokehouse melt. Very meaty and it tasted like the brisket came right off the grill and put in between 2 pierces of bread. Flavorful and juicy. Was also able to try the ribs and wings combo. Ribs definitely had that charcoal bbq taste to it. Definitely not your regular wings. Ribs weee juicy as well. If you like spicy, you would surely need to try their Mac and Jack cheese. Stumbled upon here because another place was too long of a wait, and it was amazing! Food was delicious, the dry rub on the wings is to perfection and the sandwich we got came on a delicious buttered Texas toast with their house made barbecue sauce. The sauce was so good, we wanted to buy a bottle to take home. Ambience was great, super well decorated with cute lights! I would even consider it a cute date night place! On top of all that service was incredible. The owner is extremely attentive, friendly, walks you through the menu and our food came out in less than 5 minutes. Really amazing comfort food that is very well seasoned and tastes amazing! We ordered the BBQ Sampler with sides of Mac and Cheese and Chili. It looked a little small for two when it arrived, but we couldn't finish it all! The meat texture was amazing and I really enjoyed combining the brisket and rib tips with the BBQ sauce. The Mac and cheese had amazing texture and the Chili had some meat mixed in it. Both were also very tasty but I could have done with a little more liquid in the chili. We were also offered a sample taste of the greens, which tasted a little sweet but just enough to balance the natural taste of greens. You won't regret stopping by if you're a meat lover! read more

Saw an ad on Facebook so I decided to check them out. I ordered rib tips, brisket, and smoked wings as entrees. Greens, fried Brussel sprouts, potato salad, and Mac & cheese were the sides. While the service and overall vibe was great, the food was so-so. Not terrible but not great. The wings & potato salad were the stars of the show. Brisket did have a nice smoke ring but was a little dry. The rib tips could've been a little more tender...and they could use a little more seasoning. There was a hint of smoke in the meats.
