If you go for the first time, be aware that it is located inside the building and just downstairs; it is not visible from the street. I love that they offer different playlists so you can choose what music you listen to, it doesn't have to be the same thing every time you go in. And, of course, that massages are wonderful. Get your sore muscles to Dcompress PRONTO! I had one of the best massages of my life here and my only regret is that I don't live in San Diego so I can't go back whenever I like. After a long week of business travel, my back was out of whack, I had a little time to spare before my flight home, as well as a Spafinder giftcard, so after searching for possible massage therapists on the Spafinder site, I decided on Dcompress. And boy, am I glad I did. First, the staff is so lovely and friendly. I was immediately put at ease, which is exactly where you want to be for a massage. Second, Sabrina is a MASTER. After I asked for the firmest pressure, he warned me that her level 10 pressure is pretty intense, and she was great at modifying as she went. She focused first on my problem areas (shoulder/neck) and really made progress on working out those eternal knots. The rest of the massage was phenomenal, too - she hit my gluteus medius like a BOSS. Most therapists don't even know to put in work there, but I have a lot of stress in those muscles and Sabrina made them melt. I will say, I bruise a little easily, and I look a bit beat up this morning, especially around the glutes and some parts of my legs, but I know that's the price I'm paying for a high quality massage. I was gifted a massage here with Kala and I have to say, it is the best massage I have ever had. I had allocated enough time to park but ended up being a little late because I was severely unlucky (see bottom of post for parking tips). The girls were so nice and completely unfazed by how flustered I was at being late. They immediately offered me water and got the process started and Kala still gave me the entire length of my appointment, which goes to say the quality of service they strive for (and achieve). The rooms are quaint and decorated and the beds are the softest I have ever laid on. When the massage started and when I flipped on my back, Kala would hold the scented lotion under my nose to breathe in (lavender and another relaxing scent, nothing overwhelmingly potent). I was shocked at how in-tune she was with my needs. Right before we started she did a short needs assessment and her attention to detail was immaculate. Kala spent a generous amount of time on all of my problem areas and I did not feel like anything was "missed" as a result. Her pressure was firm without being too rough on sensitive areas like the neck. It felt like she had a deep understanding of how muscles were linked and I was amazed at how she would slide from one problem area to working out a linked one I wasn't even aware of. She checked in to make sure the pressure was alright occasionally. I was so impressed with this place and I fully intend on returning. Amazing amazing place. Yesterday I decided it was time to take my knots and inflammation to a pro after I spent the last 72 hours with a stiff neck and back/neck swelling. I've had quite a few massages in my time. I receive amateur massages 7 days a week as I am, without any doubt, the most rubbiest man alive - I absolutely love to be touched and rubbed, and I have a pretty giant body covered in slabs of dense muscle. Additionally, I've done the "hunt" for cheaper massage spots that don't have reputations for human trafficking and table showers (aka germ cesspools). Even when I found a decent place who could massage me for 90 minutes at $60, they could not do anything to legitimately help my knots/trouble areas. Today I walked a few blocks to DCompress after speaking with Kelly who was very sweet and helpful. I showed up, filled out some paper work, and went to the room to get my massage. Before leaving to let me de-robe, Kelly offered me an array of music choices, which included picking my own Pandora station. This is such a simple and easy thing for a massage spot to offer, but this is the first time I have had this benefit. I chose Justin Martin, which was fuckin money. I got to listen to Shiba San "Okay" while she worked the knots in my back - bliss. Everything Kelly did to my body was fantastic and deliberate. It was clear Kelly not only had been trained properly, but she had lots of her own swag/flare in her routine. I did not want to walk into a new place with a new massage therapist and book a 90 minute mystery - but knowing what I know now, I would have DEFINITELY signed up for 90 minutes. Kelly had the perfect combination of attributes I prefer in a great massage therapist: knowledgeable, nurturing, strong, delicate, and just enough playful chattiness. I wrote this review, I signed up for a membership, and I feel considerably better today than I did before my massage yesterday. I do admit that I have cheated on her once or twice (post deployment surprise massage) but I always tell her about my infidelity as soon as I go back! This place will have you coming back every week if it was possible. All the girls are great and really listen to your needs but D is my favorite. I have booked out MONTHS in advance and have even looked up her next available appointment as soon as I get back from deployment sometime in June. That is how good she is! I've been going to DCompress Downtown for over 4 years. I've had massages all of my adult life and continue to indulge when on vacation, traveling etc. I have yet to find anyone better. D and her therapists are top notch. The best!!!!! I've had a massage from everyone there and it's hard to pick a favorite. I LOVE the new location even though it's a little farther for me to go - so worth it....a beautiful location. My fiancee and I are getting a couples massage for Valentines. Also, the addition of acupuncture is amazing service and Nicole will work with you and your insurance. All I can say is: 60 minutes is never enough! I started going there when they were still at their old location at 540 3rd Ave downtown and was super excited when I found out they were moving to Little Italy -- insanely close to where I live, score! Their new space is in the downstairs of the historic McClintock building, and while the space is below ground, it's actually a very warm, safe, womb-y vibe -- perfect for a massage. Now about the actual massages...so far I've been to Kelly, D, and Nicole, and they're all wonderful. Of course they each bring their own style/techniques, and where I used to strictly stick to one particular therapist where I used to go, I like being able to mix it up with different therapists. They have an online booking system so it's super easy to make an appointment, and they have appointments every single day of the week (by appointment only, btw, no walk-ins). I also take advantage of their monthly membership program, which is a great deal. If you find the explanation on the website of what you're getting for your $$ confusing (I did), just ask your therapist. She explained it simply and there was no sales pressure. My husband has a lot of sensitive areas. Sabrina was 100% respectful and because of that, my husband had the perfect massage. I explained to D the trouble spots I have because of a surgery I had long ago, and she worked on that area with amazing precision. I mean, I marked level, '8' for pressure, and that's exactly what I got. I felt like a brand new person. They are also extremely knowledgeable about massage therapy. The location is serene & peaceful with some of the highest quality massage tables I've experienced. I don't know why I have not written a review since I've been going here for 3+ years. First, their facility is really clean and well decorated. I believe that every staff member is good depending on your needs and preferences. It's definitely not a spa experience but the massages are so effective and for someone that has a lot of stress, it's necessary. I've had a knot in my left shoulder for weeks that traveled into my left arm, and it hurt to type or reach for anything with my left hand. Just an hour with Sabrina, doing her deep-tissue magic, and I was substantially better. The Dcompress set-up is a little funky, like some have mentioned...not your typical spa, but for me, it's better. Rather than a tiny little compartment of a room, where the massage therapist barely has room to move around, the room I was in was huge, and Sabrina had lots of room to maneuver. She was excellent -- communicative, responsive and she made her personal mission to work out that knot, and then some. Very skilled, and very knowledgeable about human anatomy. I would highly recommend Dcompress, and in particular, Sabrina. Go for the massage, come back for the therapy! read more

I had never been here before and my appointment was with Nancy. Nancy was awesome. I woke up with one of the worst strains in my neck and my upper back, and she asked me where it was and she spent a good amount of time pushing through all the pressure points to get it out while giving me a great full body massage as well. It showed she knew the techniques very well, and she knew where to press and how in order to release any tension. (BTW no one asked me to make this review. I got my first massage here a year ago and have been coming back ever since! Everyone at this place is amazing and totally makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Dee herself is usually around and is really nice. They have a regulars program as well as seasonal specials that get sent out via email. The decor is very soothing and the waxing room is always very clean. The girls here convinced me to do sugaring and I have never looked back! You will not be disappointed. A couple years ago, I strained my hamstring about 2 weeks before a big mountaineering trip that I planned to Mount Baker in Washington. I was seriously concerned about whether I was going to be able to summit. After two acupuncture sessions and two therapeutic massages, my hamstring was nearly as good as new and I made it up and down the mountain without any issues. Nicole is truly an expert in the field. This place is a great spot in Little Italy right next door to the Stone Brewery tasting Room, a ritzy wind bar and several other nice restaurants. The owner and therapist I have met here are both very cool down to earth girls with a true healing vibe. That is what I always look for but rarely find. Jade has massaged me many times and is excellent at figuring out exactly what my body needs and doing it in the time I have available. The membership deal is actually a DEAL instead of a rip off like other spas that I have gone to, and they are not all up your butt about signing up. I would recommend this place to anyone. I have tried nearly every massage place Downtown and this place is my favorite! I have been to D, Kelly, Jade, and Nicole. All have been great. I often don't like female masseurs because I like a lot of pressure and often have trouble getting that. I haven't had any issues with these ladies. Also I have a few areas that are really sensitive to pressure and they are able to manage those areas well. They also always ask me what I want to work on and spend a good amount of time on those areas to get out all my tension. Each person has a little different technique to deal with issues so take that into account. For example Nicole is really knowledgeable about acupressure points, Jade uses some stretches similar to Asian massage, etc. I was originally scared off by the pricing but they offer a lot of good discounts and membership pricing that is a good deal. It puts it into the same or less pricing as lesser quality places. If you don't want to park downtown, it's right next to the Santa Fe station stop on the green line of the trolley. There are also several bus stops within a few blocks. read more
