I think I found my new barber. After 14 months of cutting my own hair, I finally had a proper cut this past week. Michael was a recommendation from a coworker and it as well-deserved. The most important thing a barber can do is listen to you and learn exactly how you like your cut. I've rolled the dice on barbershops that I knew nothing about and usually crapped out. Recommendations are the way to go. Michael listened carefully and went to work. He could tell that I had cut my hair about a month ago. Nice! The guy knows his stuff. This has been my go to salon in the Bay Area since my senior year of high school . I have a main stylist (Kathy), but have gotten haircuts from all of them and they all do a fantastic job. Despite my hairstyle changing throughout the years, Kathy always deliver. I haven't had a complaint in all the years that I've been here. On top of the service and the price, there is a community here. Kathy has been there for my high school graduation haircut, all the way to the haircut for my first interview. The hair stylists here are all friendly, and we converse like they're all my aunties and uncles. I also see other people coming in talking to the hair stylists as best friends would. Before finding this place I had booked another place in little sparrow and they charge so much at the same time does a slow job which is more than 1hour and 15 minutes for haircut and refuse to cut my hair because they can't finish before their next appointment. I came here twice to get my hair colored, each time by different hairstylists. I really liked Cathy! I showed her a picture and she new exactly what to do with my hair to achieve the color. She even taught me how to tone my own hair at home to sustain the ashy color that I wanted. I forgot the name of the other lady but I don't think she really knew what she was doing. I asked for a balayage and she made it super blotchy. Prices are super cheap (I believe I paid around $140) but you get what you pay for. If you're on a budget I would recommend coming here and booking an appointment with Cathy! read more

Just an update on my hair cut - It grew out so beautifully and I've never been so satisfied with a haircut... im never! Usually during this time Im still grieving and regretting a haircut but not this one! Kathy did something with my hair where it has this nice wave and my hair never did that before. The first time I went to this salon ,the most horrible experience I never ever have!!! Oh my God I really want to cry when I look at the mirror!! He just cut it short, some part of hair looks very thick, some of them is very thin!! He is hair cutting skill is horrible than Mine. It's been almost four years since my very first review of this shithole and my hair is just now back to the length that it was in spring of 2014. Because of this salon's incompetent stylist who chopped off my hair back then, it's taken me years to get my original length back. I asked for 2-3 inches off and she took off 7-8 inches and then tried to cover it up. RUN AWAY! Don't go here. read more

I usually don't write reviews, but feel obligated to write one here - 1 star for being able to squeeze me in on Sunday - 1 star for the shampoo and a very reasonable price for a good haircut that is The haircut itself was extremely uninspiring. A 15 minute half ass express haircut. Not the cheapest haircut on the per minute basis. I specifically asked for 3 things, 2 of which were not done, not even close. This review is for a basic men's hair cut. Once again, I was on the prowl for a salon that can cut decent hair. I usually go to Krave in San Francisco (Geary St.), but today I didn't feel like driving all the way up there. I've nearly tried all of the places in the small downtown Millbrae area, and most of them have only been decent. Most charge around $25 bucks a haircut, which is a bit expensive for a guys hair cut. My brother went here the other month, and recommended it to me. So, I decided to give it try! This place is pretty small, like many of the other Millbrae salons. The decor is kinda modern, but it's really cluttered. I think the arrangement of their furniture is a bit out of place. But they keep the place clean, with no sight of left over hair on the ground. Yay! As for the haircut, I had Michael cut it for me. He was pretty quick with the cut and he seemed like he knew what he was doing. I like how the final outcome of my haircut looked natural and not jagged. I got a rinse after (which some places don't do). As for the pricing, I'm not sure how they charge, but they didn't go by their advertised pricing. Anyhow, I'm happy I found a place that's cheap and can give a decent hair cut. This place is really welcoming and people were really friendly. Wanted to change a new scene for my hair. I came in with a brassy blonde with almost two inches of my black roots in appearance. I wasn't sure what I wanted in the beginning but the lady who did my hair, Kathy, was really patience with me and gave me different suggestions. I honestly just really wanted to get rid of my nasty orangey hair(it was not appealing). Kathy did a wonderful job and was a genius with mixing some awesome colors. Let me start off by giving a huge thank you to these guys for not only helping me out in a pinch, but for making me smile while doing so. I came here in tears of frustration after a terrible experience at a nearby salon; they were able to fit me in last minute and just a few hours before they closed (please don't follow my lead). Michael is an absolute hair genius who has perfected his craft, and his assistant Kyle gave me THE BEST SCALP MASSAGE EVER. Ever. My eyes probably rolled to the back of my head, it was that amazing. Anywho! I cannot recommend these guys enough! Great service, great attitudes, great hair skills (I lightened up my base color, trimmed/thinned, then a blowout). For a haircut, this place is inexpensive ($20 haircut no rinse) and you can get a decent basic Asian haircut. I can't speak for the non-East Asian population. They don't have a high standard for tidiness or keeping the hair trimmings off of you and out of your clothes. The floor doesn't seem to be swept right after a person's hair is cut (understaffed or not paying attention?) and you only get a cover draped over you, loosely, and no neck protection or tucking around the neck to avoid loose, falling hairs, so just be aware you're not in a fancy salon and you'll probably want to wash down and change clothes after it to avoid itchiness. They're nice enough people, but chat a lot among themselves in Chinese, which I don't speak or understand. They're also not particularly gentle when combing your hair, but I've never been burned or nicked like in other places, which is nice. You just won't feel like you've left from a relaxing experience. So, it's alright for basic hair needs or more old fashioned hairstyles and a no nonsense cut. Just make sure you go in knowing what you want and be aware there could be a language barrier. read more

DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE!!!! I wouldn't even give 1 star! The store owner (hair stylist) Michael is crazy! He cut my hair like shit and yell at me when I asked for a correction. It felt like it was my fault. He has no skill of cutting long hair, I have no idea how the heck he became a hairdresser and own a barbershop. Well, it kinda make sense that you don't need appointment to get a spot. The business is like a dead ass, literally no customer there. I was 25 years old and had never once had a hair cut I like. I hated my hair. I used to wear hats as often as possible. Then one day I met Michael and he changed the way I think about myself. The first time he but my hair I felt more confident than I ever had. I was getting so many compliments. It didn't stop there. Every few months he comes up wirh something new, something I always love. I don't even ask what he has planned, I just sit down and relax and know that whatever happens is going to be perfect. I've sent many of my friends, guys and girls, to see Michael and everyone has called me right afterwards really excited and thanked me. His salon is like our little social club like an old school barbers shop used to be :-) He does all different types of hair. I'm white, my friends are white, Asian, Hispanic, black and mixed. It doesn't matter what he is working with, Michael can hook it up and have you looking so fresh. The price is super reasonable but I'd pay $100 a cut no questions asked. The guy is so good thay sometimes if he isn't available and I need a cut I will drive to the east bay and see him at his other salon. I'll never let anyone else cut my hair ever again. The price is cheap, the service is great. I'll definitely come back again. My hair was very damaged and I couldn't wait to have a haircut. So I went here and got my haircut during my lunch break. The lady showed me how to take care of my damaged hair and now my hair look more voluminous. She knows what I want! (I have thin and fine hair) The only thing I don't like would be the environment. Worst experience ever. We're in town visiting from the east coast and we went in for my husband to get a haircut and his beard trimmed. The guy with the pink hair was the person available when we came in (maybe Michael?) Let's just say, his beard is totally RUINED and uneven due to this guys lack of experience. STAY AWAY! If you want a hair stylist that will make you look younger, sophisticated, and beautiful, you set an appointment with MICHAEL. It was funny that the first time I met Michael and that was two years ago, I brought a picture of a model in one magazine that I really liked and told Michael to cut my hair like the one in the picture. He refused to do it. It was just a very simple hair style, but he told me straight on my face that I would not look great with that. He explained why so I trusted his expertise. It was amazing how my looks have improved since then.
