I make sure I always buy my hair products from here due to a small business and how I'm personally treated. Front desk Tawfiq is my favorite! He's always positive and has a warm loving very kind attitude and he's always nice to anyone and everyone who walks through the salon greeting them asking if they want some sort of beverage, very nice to be greeted by such nice people. This review is specifically for Tamy! I have been going to Tamy for has to be over 5 years now and I can't believe I have not written a review yet. She is truly a professional. She loves what she does, punctual/sticks to her appointments, and listens to her clients. When I first went to her, I had full natural hair--super boring and I wanted to do something fun. We did a full chop to shoulder length hair and did babylights. Looking at her portfolio, and consulting her about what would look good on me, we decided to do babylights with money pieces to really brighten and frame my face. It was a hair transformation I didn't know I needed! I've been hooked ever since and now only trust Tamy to work her magic on me. And obviously when I had my wedding in December 2024, I of course booked with Tamy to get me looking my best. I asked for my hair color to be close to my natural hair color, I didn't want anything too different for my wedding pictures. Tamy knew exactly what to do, and even cut framing pieces for me so that my hair/makeup artist would have pieces to work with for my up-do. I will continue to go to her because she is professional, her prices are very reasonable, and she listens and exceeds my expectations every time. For the salon itself, I've always had friendly interactions with the staff there. Parking can be tough on the weekends, but parking lots and structures are readily available for a few dollars so I always pay for the 3 hours that I expect to be in Tamy's chair. This review is specifically for Marwan. I recently had went to him and wanted to do balayage to my hair. He then told me he doesn't use bleach on his clients. So i didn't know what to expect. My hair came out like old school highlights. I told him this is not what i wanted. I do not recommend anyone to book with him at Tamers salon. Even his customer service wasn't pleasant. This is the tale of three sisters who were born with beautiful curly hair and as they aged and got busy struggled to stay pretty. About 7 years ago, a gorgeous , magical hair fairy, named, Janna Dughman worked her magic and tamed their locks with perfect cuts, and for me keratin treatments, and kept the grey away. Janna is an artist with color and blending highlights. She is professional and a perfectionist. She is also a very kind person who listens to her customers but will give good advice and superb product recommendations. Janna works mostly weekends now, as she is raising young girls, but she puts so much care into everything that she does, that it is worth waiting for an appointment with her. I am the oldest and most spontaneous sister. Occasionally i get frustrated with my hair and i wait too long between appointments and act on a whim- I am always sorry and pay the price for " cheating " because i was on vacation, or saw a Groupon. Alex my middle sister is loyal and methodical and always follows the rules. She knows what works for her and never goes more than 6 weeks between appointments. Vanessa, our youngest sister, who got the enviable wavy, honey colored, least frizzy hair is the most like Janna herself, a perfectionist with super high standards. She was a city girl for decades and probably would have continued to trudge to San Francisco had we not raved about Janna. She was wary prior to the appointment, but has been a faithful customer since. My sisters and I are tough customers with tough to style hair. We have a lot of it and it is curly and frizzy to varying degrees. My sisters are natural blondes and I am brunette but all three of us are battling gray at 52, 49 and 43. The middle sister has the blonde ringlets and Is the one who found janna Dughman first. Seven years later, most weekends at least one of us have an appointment with Ms. Janna at Tamer Mickel. This review is for Tamy! I've tried quite a few hair stylists for the past few years and I finally found the one!!!! I told her I wanted to get my hair ready for engagement shoots, so slightly back to my natural color but with different tones for dimension, and she totally did that for me! She's really good at her job and does it quick but well! She is also incredibly friendly and wonderful to talk to. Booking was super easy and she was very responsive to all my texts. The salon itself is very clean and spacious. There were a handful of clients when I was there but I still felt like I had my own space. LEXI BABA is truly amazing. I went to get a re-touch, cut/ style for myself, and H/C for my 2 daughters for the first time. Lexi was able to get us in right away. My hair is curly. Not a little curly, VERY curly. Brazilian blowouts have been a godsend and I get one every 3 months like clockwork. Many salons offer the treatment but to truly appreciate the transformative nature of the product the application is *really* important -- you need a stylist that is patient and thorough enough to carefully get every strand. So when my long time stylist stopped doing hair (gasp!) it took nearly a year of trying out different high-end salons and getting satisfactory but not great results before I found Christina. Christina is AWESOME. She's a pro. She did the same treatment I had received at other salons but the difference noticeably better after doing the Brazilian treatment Christina. And now that she's at Tamer Mickels salon she has access to even better tools for the job -- including a giant air machine that sucks up the fumes. It's like my favorite superhero got even more super powers! I can rave enough about her, I can only say I am so grateful to have found her because Brazilian blowouts are a time-consuming and pricey treatment and having the right person do them makes a world of difference. Many (many) years ago, I met a 'new' stylist at a salon in Burlingame named Christina. She was just starting out and although she was old enough to be my daughter, I was very impressed with not just her skill set, but her personality! She had 'sass' (which is a compliment!) and she was 100% authentic and honest, something I realllly appreciate in the 'beauty arts!' As is common in the industry, she changed salons a few times and I always found her as she was the total package and worth the drive from Pacifica every four weeks. Life threw me some curve balls which caused me to move out of the area for the past 11 years. Despite the distance, I just knew that I had to see her as my hair just hadn't been the same since I moved (despite living in a trendy, big city), so I booked an appointment which took place earlier today. Beyond the joy I felt in reconnecting with her as a human, her skill set has only gotten BETTER (which is hard to fathom since she was already the best I'd ever had)! There's a reason she is a Master Colorist/Stylist and I greatly benefitted from not only her talents, but her integrity in doing what works best for me. I trust her judgment 100% and just let her run with it and she hit it out of the park! We talked about what I wanted (I'm clueless) and he had some suggestions. They sounded good and he got right to work. A few clips here and a few clips there. Here a buzz there a buzz. Then a wash wash here and presto. I looked amazing. I know! Not even possible but true. He gave me a great new style that fit me very well. He was quick and held up a great conversation. April Ann is AMAZING! I recently moved to Peninsula and was looking for someone who specializes in Balayage, Ombre and Asian hair in my area. I went with a lob (long bob) with some texture and Balayage/ombre. This sweet son/mother duo agreed to take care of me even though it was Easter Sunday. I went in for my consultation and felt right at home. WIne, smiles, encouragement, and an hour later a pretty good looking up-do. 2. Great at what they do!!!! Although my trial updo looked pretty good, Nuha insisted it would look much better if I got a trim and some highlights. I HATE cutting my hair and have never highlighted it, but for some reason I trusted her and Tamer. He agreed to fit me in, one week before the wedding. Their confidence had me feeling sold! 3. Patient I was nervous to cut my hair, but I had no worries once I had in the chair. I enjoyed some wine and Nuha and Tamer seamlessly took turns working their magic. This review is for HAIR BY DINNA ! I'll keep it short and simple. Dinna is amazing. Dinna is sweet. Dinna makes you feel calm. Dinna can have awesome conversations. Dinna does great hair. Dinna is looking for long term clients, so will put in the extra work. I came here for an ombre & cut, and enjoyed the experience. I knew that I was taking a risk by picking the absolute lightest red. I wasn't too sure about it when I was done, but thought I'd give it a try anyway to be bold. As warned by Dinna, the lighter it is, the quicker it'd fade. Soon enough, it did fade. So just some friendly advice, do not go the lightest shade if you want it to last more than a week or so. I remember she had mentioned something about glazing in a couple of weeks, so I asked her about it. She squeezed me in early in the morning (for the 2nd time in a row), and that is always always always appreciated. She put some more color into my hair, and this time a deeper red. It looked beautiful, and I was even happier than the first time! What's even crazier? I knew she didn't charge me any money this time, but I definitely pulled out a tip. SHE WOULDN'T TAKE IT! My thick curly hair looks adorable in a blunt bob with slight layers, either straight or curly! And almost a month later I am still absolutely obsessed with it! My natural hair is jet black, thick, wavy and a lot of it. I went to my previous hair stylist 4 times to go blonde and I never came out blonde. The top layer of my hair was very brassy and my hair underneath was still black and the bottom of my hair was was red.....all of that after 4 times of going to a blonde specialist! My hair never grew because it was so damaged from the ends. Beverly honestly SAVED my hair! My hair never looked this good!! I've got so many compliments on my hair, something I've never experienced before. But the BEST part of it is that my hair is finally blonde, healthy, shiny, and full of life. I can actually run my fingers through my hair. I went to Beverly with high expectations and she delivered amazingly, she surpassed my expectations. I purchased a single process hair coloring for Tamer Mickel with Gianna Cavalieri from Living Social After meeting her for a free consultation, I booked a single process color and partial highlights for February 16 at 11am! When I arrived on 2/16 the guy at the front looked at me funny when I told him I had an appointment today. He asked me, "are you sure it's today?" Well Duhh!!!! Why would I show up on my only day off this week? Apparently Gianna booked me for March 16!!! She just shrugged and said "Well I don't know how that happened." She asked me to return an hour later, because she's working on someone else's hair, and she could squeeze me in! Great! I left to run some errands. I decided to return a little late and not come right at 12 because I figured if she started working on the other chick's hair at 11am I'm pretty sure she would not be done by 12pm. While I was driving back she called me and asked me to reschedule because she only had 45 minutes to work on my hair and I was late. WTF!?!?!?! Does she seriously think I would come back at 12 so she can do a single process color, partial highlights, and blow dry in 45 minutes?!?! I would rather go to another salon that would take the time to work on my hair instead of rush to do a single process color and partial highlights in 45 minutes!!!! What a waste of time and gas! Thank goodness Living Social gives refunds! She also never apologized. While I loved how it made my hair silky smooth and straight, I was getting tired of doing it. During Covid I didn't go for my usual treatment and got inspired to stop straightening it and start embracing my natural wavy hair. I just needed the right hair stylist and the perfect hair cut. A good friend's daughter who has thick super curly hair highly recommended Tamer Mickel Hair Salon. I got an in person consult w Eileen and she highly recommended trying Janna Dughman, their "curly/wavy hair specialist". I got an appointment fairly quickly and told Janna about transitioning into a wavy look with more layers and take some bulk off my thick hair. Janna sounded very knowledgeable and confident since she has curly hair herself. So I went for it! She did a nice job with my layers and showed me how to style my hair using styling cream, scrunch it and just letting it Air Dry! She opened up my mind to embracing my beautiful waves and turns out, she was right. I just needed the right cut. I went back for low lights and she did some color correction as I am mostly grey. She also tweaked my haircut for a face framing effect. I love it! I'm pleasantly surprised at the freedom of having the option to air dry my hair.
