Not sure why anyone would give this 4 or 5 stars, it just is not very special. At least if you have been to a family run Dutch restaurant in Calgary it isn't. De Dutch closed two times in Calgary. I'm surprised it does so well in Vancouver. I ordered the Turkey Baron and Cheese pannekoek and was very disappointed when I asked for Gouda cheese and the server didn't know what that was, and said there was just Edam for Dutch cheeses. I asked for extra cheese yet it still only covered half. My meal was under cooked; I could taste raw dough in parts. Yuck! I will give them this: the coffee was surprisingly good though and the decor was nice and there was a great view of the bay. read more

We were walking around the coal harbor and saw they have interesting mimosa favor so decided to drop by and tried it. They were busy on a Sunday morning, it's about15 to 20 mins wait for inside sitting but no wait for patio sitting because it's about 10 Celsius outside without heater. Since we don't want to wait so took the patio sitting. The service was good, I order the strawberry lemonade mimosa and side order of bratwurst and debakon and my friend order a double Caesar. It was average for both food and drink but we enjoy the harbor view. read more

I've had a negative experience each of the 2 times that I've been here in the past 5 weeks. The last time, there was spilled milk under my table from a prior patron that no one had bothered to clean. My pannekoek was undercooked both times, and the kitchen couldn't get their second attempt right after I sent back the first. On one occasion, my server told me that the pannekoek was supposed to be undercooked in the middle, and that I should have asked for it to be "well done" if I didn't want it the traditional way. Wow. I'll skip the attitude and food poisoning, thanks. From now on, I'll go to De Dutch in North Van or Coquitlam. Service and food at these other locations has never been a problem. read more

No. We went here because the hotel concierge said it was amazing. The service first of all was nonexistent. NONEXISTENT. We sat down and waited about 20 minutes to order (and even be greeted by a server), and others who came in after us had received their food. Finally someone comes to take out order, and she spilled hot water on me by accident yes but she wasn't paying any attention to the fact that there was hot water on her tray while she was doing a balancing act with her notebook. 30 minutes went by and no food. 48 minutes in and our food was delivered to our table. Thank you for welcoming us to this beautiful café your seats were very comfortable and the food was really good and I really liked the view from the Cafe thank you very much! And I also like pancakes. (That was written by my 7 year old-he insisted) This location was situated by the water which was very nice, the interior was decorated great, it really made me feel like we were in Europe. Portion size was very large. The pancakes were good. We asked for a few modifications which we didn't really get but maybe it's because it was busy. I ordered eggs with salmon which are pretty decent. They stated that they had fresh orange juice but we didn't actually get a chance to try it so I can't comment on it. Servers were all very young -- late teens/ early 20s but maybe that's our perception. But they were Energetic, and quite pleasant. Super tall ceilings, vibrant atmosphere. Good kids menu, wasn't quite a five-star but do you highly recommend coming here for a family meal. read more

The food is great!! Found this place last year when in Vancouver, and couldn't wait to come back to eat here on this trip. The service on today's visit sucked. The server never came back to check on us. He acted like I was bothering him when I asked for more water. I had been waiting for him to come and fill it, as he walked by several times, even stopping by to take an empty plate from our table. A very nice location with a beautiful view went there on Feb 2nd, 2014. We ordered breakfast, which was definitely on the poor side, I have tasted better food at at the local coffee shop. Talking about coffee, it tasted closer to re-cycled drain water and it was overpriced. I had a simple two eggs, some weird looking pieces of meat that passed for bacon and something called hash brown. The so called hash brown were small diced potatoes barely edible with no seasoning, maybe some onions may have helped. I cannot recommend this place based on its food. The staff were very friendly and the place is clean, but that's no reason to eat over priced less than mediocre food. Do not fall for their half portions suggestions its just a money grab. There are better places close by that serve a decent breakfast. read more

Made a reservation two weeks ago via Open Table. Called to confirm the reservation a few days after and no issue. The manager just called to say they couldn't accommodate, a day before my friends and I were meeting there from out of town. He offered no alternatives and no help, except to say that it was our tough luck. Had never been here before and now I never will. read more

Wow how disapointing. First service was lacking. We didn't see our server for 5-7 minutes and had to ask another server if she was ours. She said no and would get ours a few minutes later she showed up. She was plesant but throughout the meal she was MIA. Food was very bland. It was good but pricey. This location features retro cool 1960's decor. I went for lunch with a friend. He needed gluten free due to allergies and they had a special menu just for him. They were very helpful in helping him make a selection. I had the pear maple French toast. Yum. The menu features items from a town in Holland. I recommend the dutch style pancakes and other breakfast foods. read more

The view is amazing, sitting there, having brunch, and watching the world go by in a sunny family day morning is second to none. I am guessing the waiting staff probably were wishing the same thing.. I am not certain, but they just seem a little disappointed. They are either understaffed, or the morale is low. My hostess wouldn't look at us. She greeted us, and mumbled something under her breath, and walked away. Because we couldn't understand her, as she was looking under the table, we weren't sure to follow her or not. I am guessing she's in a bad mood either because she's busy, or she also has to clean the table after everyone, lol. Our waiter is definitely a nice guy. He's trying.. but man, their kitchen must be far because he keeps disappearing for long periods at a time. I am guessing that they have to garnish the meal themselves. He seems out of breath.. and the restaurant aren't even busy. At the end, took us 30 minutes just to get the bill (have to wave him down multiple times.) Food is ok. I'm not one to write reviews, but today's brunch at De Dutch had to be the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Terrible service, cold food, missing food, and after more than a 90 minute wait, I still couldn't get a water and my son couldn't get fruit. I will most definitely not be coming back to this restaurant. The good news is there are many other wonderful restaurants in the area... Just not this one. read more

If I knew that they are not only serving pancakes, I wouldn't wait that long to try!! I was shocked by the wide range of menu. They have different kinds of savory/sweet pancakes, burgers, meat, omeletes, desserts, breakfast menus... I tried chocolate, strawberry, whip pancake. It was delicious. But it seemed more like a crepe than a pancake. It is thin and I found myself rolling like a crepe before eating. The waitresses were polite and friendly. Also the service was fast, I didn't had to wait a lot for my order to come. The atmosphere, decoration was cozy. You can enjoy the ocean view while having your breakfast too. But it closes at 16pm, so you should hurry if you are there for a lunch. I don't know why they close that early. I found a little weird seeing beer and wine in the menu, and I'm sorry but I'm not going to have a glass of wine at my breakfast. I've done a few breakfast dates here now. This is a fun experience every time. So far, I've ordered the same thing - strawberry cheesecake pancake - fresh sliced strawberries, sweetened cream cheese, and whipped cream. *The first time, I subbed the whip for a scoop of ice cream. I love the thing, crepe style pancakes BUT I wish they would stay more crispy vs the dense spongy-soggy center. I will ask if this is possible next time. This is a pretty awesome pancake! The sweet cream cheese is amazing! I also tear up their back bacon and toss it on so I get my sweet & salty fix. Har har har!! Next time, I'd like to try the peach melba pancake. Anyway, depending on who your server is, there's ample opportunity to have fun with them and engage in some early AM humour. Great experience! read more

My friends and I popped in here for a late breakfast after a quick seaplane ride over the city. The staff were really friendly, split a ton of plates (and the bill!) for us and made sure we had everything we needed. The menu truly has something for everyone and their special pancakes are really yummy. We ordered the strawberries and chocolate one, which was good, but I was a little disappointed that the berries weren't fresh and that the chocolate wasn't like a sauce or spread, instead it was just sprinkles that were kinda melty, but not really. They have a similar dish here. I don't remember what it's called. You can get both the pancake and the skillet... And voila! Bombbbbb brunch/breakfast spot! Located by Vancouver Convention Centre, it has a pretty awesome view of the water. It was pretty busy on a Sunday morning; it was sunny and on the Vancouver Sun Run so that may have had something to do with it. I ordered the Hash with Pannekoeken. Pannekoeken is a dutch pancake/crepe. While hash was quite tasty with turkey bacon and veggies, I found pannekoeken to be just okay. I am not a big fan of pancake so this is probably a big reason why but I think I would have liked it better if it was sweet not savory. I had a bite of Pannekoeken with chocolate and banana and I much preferred that. They have gluten free items on the menu for those who are wanting to avoid gluten. The service was pretty good even though it was pretty packed. The server had a good knowledge of the gluten free items. A little tip to fellow Yelpers. Make sure you check in and you get a free glass of OJ. read more

This breakfast place is a nice place, but the service is quite slow and inefficient. We asked for a grapefruit mimosa, and our waitress, Amanda, did not know what a mimosa was. Eventually, she understood what it was, but gave us an orange mimosa instead of a grapefruit one that I ordered. Also, we were sat right next to a crying baby, and when we asked to move, Amanda said that we were "not allowed to" because it was "against policy". The Dutch pancake was delicious, but the smoked salmon benedict was terribly disappointing. There was very little salmon and the bread was super dry. Also, the "fresh squeezed orange juice" tasted like Tropicana (from the bottle/with preservatives). So...if you go here, just eat the Dutch pancakes. We tried the one with triple berry sauce and fresh whipped cream and it was a great way to end the meal. Service was pretty prompt and friendly here though, and the view of the harbor is gorgeous! They have outdoor seating, but if you are indoors you can also enjoy the mountain/sea view. Free and decent WiFi too. read more
