I love this place!! They have a variety of sweet and savoury treats, along with both sweet and savoury frozen dishes for take home. The decor is adorable and they sell all sorts of nature friendly kitchen supplies as well as gluten free flours. The staff are always so helpful and are great at advising you about different allergens in the foods so that you can be safe and enjoy your food! My only complaint is that they are too small for an indoor seating area so the food is pretty much all to go. But if you have food allergies, this is the place to go!! read more

It's got a pretty extensive bakery ( but get there early to get the best selection), a nice selection of frozen pre-made meals, and some great kitchen supplies and gluten free flours for baking at home. It's really cute, and the staff are amazing! I don't think I'm alone, but I have issues with both gluten and dairy, so it's great to have a delicious selection of baked items that are both vegan and gluten free! Came here on a Saturday right before they closed. They didn't have too much left but upon ordering they offered to give us a couple of extra items free of charge due to the fact that they were closing. The staff were super amazing, kind and friendly - just really a standout customer experience! The one thing I am praying for is that they bring back the miso icing for the cinnamon buns! Best gluten free baked goods by far! Got so many things to sample and take home before leaving Canada and I loved them all! The fresh cinnamon roll was the best gf cinnamon roll I've ever had and their glazed donut actually tasted like an old fashioned donut. I'm not gluten-sensitive in any form but I like trying different kinds of food so I wanted to give this place a try. They have a variety of both sweet and savoury baked goods and even sandwiches and slices of gf pizza, plus smoothies. Looks like lots of the items rotate daily. There's also a little "market" section with frozen baked goods, drinks, cookbooks, kitchen accessories, and other household items. It's unfortunate that there's no seating, but Robson Park is just one block over and has some benches and picnic tables, so you can take your goodies there if the weather is decent. I visited in the morning shortly after opening and grabbed a blueberry thyme scone and a golden milkshake (which is really a banana-based smoothie, not an ice cream milkshake). The scone was, in places, a little too caramelized on the outside and a little doughy inside, but nonetheless very tasty. I definitely prefer doughy to dry. Full of juicy blueberries. The scone had a different sort of texture from "regular" scones, more grainy, but this wasn't a bad thing, in fact I really liked the texture! I just wanted to put that out there because I read many reviews that said they couldn't tell the baked goods were gf. I'm sure it depends on what you order. The smoothie was very nice too; I liked that it wasn't sweetened beyond the inherent sweetness of the fruit. It was blended very smoothly. I thought the smoothie was a little expensive at almost $9 (which comes to mind as close to the price of a massive protein-packed Body Energy Club smoothie), but the scone was only $4 which is pretty good for a specialty bakery and for the size. read more

I was diagnosed with celiac when I was 2 and have been searching for gluten free treats since. I've been to many restaurants and bakeries across Canada. The Gluten Free Epicurean has figured it out!! Their products are incredibly tasty and comparable to great gluten products (according to my husband). Many gluten free baked goods are super sweet, filled with sugar to distract you from the lack of gluten. In the gluten free epicurean's products, the flavours are balanced. The products are well cooked, and the flavours are fantastic. Top of my list is the glazed donut - and the only place I've found that can make good brioche gluten free donuts! When I tried it for the first time I felt like I was transported onto a cloud. I had never tasted anything like it before. I also recommend their cheese danish, scones, strudel, knish, and banana bread. The only thing I wouldn't have again is their croissant, which was laminated well but too dense. read more

I got gf vegan doughnuts (double chocolate sprinkle that day), a nanaimo bar, and potato rolls. I wish I'd tried 10 more things, as everything was really fantastic. Largest selection of gluten free items I've seen in a single place. Here's what I had: - Cookies n cream cupcake: very moist. The texture was spot on to a regular cake, but the cake itself was not as flavorful as a regular one. You'll need a little frosting with every bite. - Espresso chocolate muffin: moist, flavorful throughout, and nice crispy top. Easily the best item I had. Texture was more dense than the cupcake but still pretty light. Just not as airy. - chocolate hazelnut cookie: it was pretty good. Not too sweet. A thick cookie with a little chew. The textures were all very good and comparable to regular gluten products. Overall flavors were good and not overly sweet. I'd definitely go back to try other things. read more

I came here years ago and asked if they would use a sugar substitute and the person snapped at me for asking. According to her, dessert should be sweet. I thought she was just having a bad day. 6 years laters, I went back hoping for a better experience since there are still around and there isn't many gluten free vegan options in Vancouver. The sweet bun was just that, way too sugary and the texture wasn't delightful. It was a bad kind of chewy. I can't believe I paid that much for it. I also picked up some cupcakes and specifically asked for the least sweet flavour and gosh, the icing like some of the reviews here was sweet beyond acceptable. It is not a very big cupcake either. This place was recommended in a blog and although I only bought two items it did not disappoint. The gf baguette was fresh & had a crisp crust on the outside and chewy bread on the inside. My absolute favorite was the Boston Creme Pie Donut. It is my ideal dessert and was incredibly delicious. The right amount of cream filling, chocolate topping and especially the fluffy, dough itself with just the right amount of chewiness. I got a couple items from here a couple weeks back, and they were pretty good for the most part. Salted Espresso Cookie (4.5/5) This had a good amount of chocolate chips and was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It had a nice chocolate and coffee flavour, and I liked the addition of sea salt which helped elevate the flavour and balance out the sweetness. Vegan Pizza (4/5) The toppings of the day was artichoke and kale with vegan cheese on a tomato sauce base. The toppings were very flavourful but the crust wasn't great (it is gf so..). They heated it up for me but it was still cold but I was super hungry so I ate it anyways. The cheeze tasted better than I expected but the texture was obviously different and it was drizzled on like a sauce. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie (2/5) This was okay but I'm not the biggest fan of pumpkin spice (I was stupid and thought it was just pumpkin not pumpkin spice). There was a good amount of chocolate chips and the cookie was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Peanut Butter Brownie (1/5) I wasn't a big fan of this brownie. It very dry and grainy, and chewy in a weird way. The flavour of the brownie was alright, but the peanut butter frosting tasted sickly sweet. read more

Getting here was a little tricky as you can't access the street off of Kingsway or make a left turn from 12th and Fraser. I circled around and was lucky to find parking in front of the store. This little bakery has a nice community vibe. Parents with children and everyone else all hanging out harmoniously. Everything looked scrumptious and it was a challenge to order a few items that wouldn't be too high in carbs and sugar. I ordered a quiche, a sausage roll and a lemon tart. I was a little worried about my quiche as the server got involved in a friendly conversation with a customer and forgot about my quiche which was warming. Not to worry, the extra heat didn't affect the flaky and buttery taste of the quiche. It was so good I didn't even mind the goat cheese, of which I haven't acquired a taste for yet. The sausage roll, which I ate at home, had a similar buttery and flaky crust and the meat inside was reminiscent of crumbly shepherd's pie meat filling rather than a solidly formed piece of meat. Which is good, I think. Most of the customers,like me, picked up a coffee next door at Matchstick prior to coming here. There was a pastry there calling my name but my heart was set on trying this bakery. Next time? It was busy, but you can still chill and enjoy your coffee and food here. Let me start by saying I'm not gluten free (though I should be) so I feel like I can be a pretty good judge of if something is edible in regards to its gluten content. You could not have convinced me that this stuff is gluten free. The crusts are buttery and flakey, the cookies are chewy and rich and the bread is moist and pillowy. If you have been looking for a bakery, pizza shop or brunch spot that is truly 100% gluten free that matches quality to its gluten-full counterparts, this place doesn't match them... it's FAR exceeds. I would choose this place over any other in the city at this point in time. Period. They also carry the Stumptown coconut cold brew and many vegan (and delicious) food/treats. Oh and smoothies. To my pleasant surprise this bakery had more choices than I could even wrap my head around! Sweet, Savory, Breakfast, Lunch, you name it and they had it! I ordered 1 Pizza Roll, I am pretty sure that it was Vegan in addition to being Gluten Free? Regardless, it was amazing! The flour blend that they used truly mimicked the taste and texture of wheat and the flavors were spot on to Pizza as I remember it! I also ordered a cinnamon roll and I'm still drooling over it! It was topped with yummy glazed walnuts (or pecans) can't remember I devoured it so fast.... Both pastries were very reasonable and came out to under $7 I was very happy with their pricing since eating gluten free always seems to be big $$. The staff were all very friendly and working hard in the back and front while we were there. The shop itself is small, but nice and cozy on a rainy October morning. I can honestly say that in my 4 years+ of being gluten free, this place produces the best dark chocolate (vegan) cookies and (vegan/soy/free) carrot "muffins" (really more like a healthy cupcake)- with LEMON frosting-- EVVVAR (!) I just did some "emotional eating" almost face-planting into that box of goodies I emerged with. Also I had a cinnamon roll which is less sweet than the norm, and more like a bread with just a bit of cinnamon. I could actually take that up a notch with the cinnamon & sugar but I like that it's more like food than dessert. Lets just start this off with i had very high expectations!!! Breakfast sandwich although small was very satisfying. Easily the best gluten free breakfast sandwich i have ever had. The bread was fluffy and flavourful, cheese was melted perfectly, egg was perfect, ham perfect and there was a bit of spice to it. I am not vegan I am not a celiac, nor gluten sensitive. Nor do I have any kind of dietary restriction because of health reasons. That said, I do have friends who are celiac, or lactose intolerant - i.e, no milk dairy products. I ended up getting a vegan brownie and a vegan cinnamon roll for a friend who is lactose intolerant. The brownie was shockingly good. It was a mint brownie. The cinnamon roll was not bad. Tasted very different than one made of wheat flour. This is my first venture into a place like this. After brunch I drove out to the Epicuran. It's tucked away among other quaint stores unsuspectingly off of Kingsway. I was super excited to get inside and check out all the "sin gluten" goodies. Alex is very informed about the products and answered my questions before I even asked him! (Must be that Piscean intuition). I ordered the Cinnamon roll with pecans and icing.... my bf couldn't tell that it was not made with wheat flour but a rice flour. I was not disappointed .I sat by the large window on small white wooden chairs and enjoyed everything about the bakery, although I did find out they make lunch too, which is gluten free/ vegan as well. Before departing I bought a sour cherry chocolate cookie, a peanut butter brownie with icing and a pumkin pecan roll. Thus far I've nibbled the cookie which is not dry but chewy and very chocolatey, and devoured the peanut butter brownie....like it ever had a chance. Good! Very sweet, but charming and set in a lovely location. Like a girl's best friend. My fiancé and I went there to test out some vegan gluten-free cake on the down-low. We ordered two slices to start it off. One was the oreo slice cake, which I didn't know could be made vegan! And then we ordered the chocolate brownie cake with peanut butter frosting. Both were great in terms of mouthfeel, they were moist, not too dense, and were large servings. The only minor complaint I had about them is that they were a bit too sweet. But I'm nit-picking, because they were both excellent. The Peanut Butter brownie was the clear winner because the peanut butter frosting has a great balance of savory and sweetness (this is a relative scale because it's frosting). The service was quite pleasant and the ambiance of the cafe is quaint and cute, bathed in white with lots of pinterest ideas for our own home. Will definitely be back with my gluten free aficionados, and we have to go try some other gluten free and vegan bakeries before we make a decision for our wedding cake. Highly recommended. read more

This place was spectacularly cottage chic inside with white furnishings, complete with chalk board menu boards that would make your inner hipster cry a thousand tears. I eventually settled on an ice cream float made of dandelion and burdock soda plus blackberry cheesecake ice cream. It was served in a mason jar (of course), and was every bit as oddly pleasing as it sounds. This gem of an all gluten-free bakery has really stepped up its game. The service used to be standoffish. But now is service with a smile and positive attitude. The vegan pizza used to be what you'd expect from vegan pizza but now is overflowing with fresh, flavourful toppings and delectable nut cheese (just try it)! The vegan muffins were always a tender and moist treat but now are even better. Be sure to get them warmed up. The only thing that would please me more is if they offered a version without the caramelized sugar topping. The vegan cinnamon buns are wonderful. They must be served warm or it's not the same experience. Raspberry with almond slivers is my favourite (available Sundays). Being GF, they are heartier and not as fluffy and foodgasmic as the incredible but full-of-gluten ones at Edible Flours, but are still delicious. (Edible Flours offers a GF version and they are dry and punishing to get through.) Their tarts and cheesecakes are refined sugar-free and I believe raw (grain-free). They come in lemon, salted caramel, chocolate, and pumpkin. My favourite is the salted caramel, warmed up so the filling is slightly melted, and then the taste actually reminds me a little bit of a Chinese dan tat or egg tart. This is the only gluten-free bakery that I would travel for. Me being in North Van, the closest one to my place is literally 5 mins away from me. Two Daughters Gluten-free used to be my go to because it was nearby but Gluten-free Epicurean is the one I would travel far for. I have purchased many things from this bakery and I have not been disappointed! The donuts are deliciously cake-like and full of flavor. You can freeze them too! The galette is amazing, especially when it's chock full of seasonal fruits. The cinnamon buns, banana bread and croissants are delicious and not dense or fake tasting compared to ones I've tried.
