I'm visiting Vancouver for a few days and stopped into De Dutch with my family. We all had high expectations, looking forward to pancakes, waffles etc. Sadly before we were even sat the hostess rudely pointed at a table instead of walking us to the table and handing us a menu. We sat for 10 minutes before we even were given a menu. This was frustrating, but we still tried to stay patient. The coffee was horrible, the latte was essentially just milk, and the regular coffee was colored water and could not drink it...It's quite sad considering the restaurant was busy and relatively nice. The food and service was the real issue. Our waitress was chewing gum the whole time which we didn't find very professional. We ordered a denver omelette which also was sent back due to it being very burnt. The pancakes which are their signature was also burnt. The whole experience sucked and it is way to expensive for the atmosphere, food, and service. Eat somewhere else! read more

Went for brunch which they serve until 4PM . nothing fancy and yup price for the location . most of staff were very friendly . it just weird I walked in to an almost empty restaurant, they gave outside table to the couple ahead of me and they offered me a table just next to kitchen with all walking and noises.that trigger my attention to see how they operate and looks like if you are younge and single you will get table next to kitchen although the restaurant was almost empty at 1130AM. that happen to other single solo guy and girls who came for brunch ! . read more

I've spent a few late Sunday mornings holding my head in my hands after a big night out. The servers are pretty helpful and there never seems to be that much of a wait if it's busy. They have all the breakfast faves like big pancakes, skillet scrambles, benedicts etc. everything is tasty. Last weekend, my sister and I wanted to have breakfast before checking out the Gluten Free Expo, and so were in search of a restaurant that had gluten free items. Because De Dutch is known for pancakes (or rather, "pannekoeken"), it's not a restaurant that comes to mind when I think "gluten free". But surprisingly, De Dutch offers gluten free items, and it was located near the convention center where the expo was taking place, so perfect! Of course there is a lot on the menu that we couldn't eat, but they offer gluten free pannekoeken, and at no extra charge. (I am bloody fed up with having to pay several dollars more for fucking gluten free items at restaurants.) The server was really patient with answering our questions about which menu items were gluten free, and she said that the restaurant had ordered extra gluten free pannekoeken for that weekend because of the Gluten Free Expo. It's nice that they are making an effort to be gluten aware, and as someone with celiac, I really appreciate it. Also, as an avid Yelper, I checked in to De Dutch and got a free orange juice! Other than a Dutch oven pancake (j/k) I haven't had a Dutch breakfast on this continent, so I don't have much basis of comparison. All I can say was that it was yummy and relatively light and filling. We ordered the pannekoeken with the hash with some wonderful BC smoked salmon. The pannekoeken was huge beyond platter sized (like a small pizza). He hash acme in a separate dish. It was greAt because we had plenty of pancake left after the hash was gone. On the morning that we were due to leave on our cruise ship, we decided to stop in for breakfast, intrigued by their Pannekoeks and their convenient location on the harbor by our hotel. We quickly found out a "Pannekoek" is the dutch version of an oversized thicker crepe. Yes! I ordered the Banana and Walnut Pannekoek and the Husband ordered the Farmers Pannekoek. I also ordered a Caramel Macchiato to sip on while we waited which came out quickly and was quite good. Service was a little spotty, we waited a long time for our check, to get seated, and our server only checked on us once. Luckily it didn't distract from the amazing food! My Banana and Walnut Pannekoek was amazing! It came with real maple syrup and the batter was loaded with bananas and walnuts. It was perfect and I ate the whole thing (though I was stuffed afterwards!). The Husband loved his Farmers Pannekoek which came piled with scrambled eggs, potatoes, two kinds of bacon and sausage. He wasn't able to finish which never happens! I loved the modern decor in the restaurant and the amazing views of the harbor. We will definitely come back here again when in the area! read more

Wow, server spilt coffee all over our table, did not offer to wipe it up and continued to put our drinks and tabelware directly into the coffee puddle ..WHILE I was attempting to wipe it up. I had to ask for more napkins instead of him offering. A moment after we ordered we changed our minds about one of the dishes and caught the server to make this request just after our first order. Her irritation was palpable and the whole table made eyes at one another because of how uncomfortable it was to make this new order: she did not write it down, she was impatient and her tone was rude and unwelcoming. The service remained at this level for our meal. There were 4 other tables with customers and three staff working the floor... so the issue of business was not present. We love the structure of the building and restaurant set up but everything happening inside was not good. If you enjoy good service and food do not come here, there are so many places with better food and service at better prices and vibe. The food prices were expensive for the quality of the food. Everything was "okay". They turned off the music an hour and a half before the restaurant closed and we thought we were getting kicked out. read more

The food was really good. The service was slow at first but it may have been because it was packed. It's a little pricier but it is downtown Vancouver. Most breakfast for adults run $12.5 (bacon, eggs, toast, fruit). Kids run around 5 to 6. All the meals are good portions. Overall a nice experience. The view of the bay is nice. read more

Pannenkoek! Get the pannenkoek! It's big, it's filling, it's so good! Pannenkoek is much lighter and thinner than your average pancake, but it is oh so delicious! I ordered the Vegetarian Hash with a pannenkoek. Everything was delicious! I loved the beautiful ocean view. It was very peaceful drinking hot chocolate in front of the water. I miss it! This was my first time here, although apparently it's a chain with several locations in western Canada. I came across it walking along the pier in a touristy area. But it was so bright and friendly looking, I had to check it out! I was recommended the banana and walnut pancake (Dutch style) which is cooked in the batter (instead of placed on top). It was so delicious! The Dutch bacon was cooked perfectly too. The view at this location is probably the highlight of an already amazing meal. The only slight issue I had was the service. It was passable, the server just seemed quite rushed, I guess it was much busier earlier. I'd go back if I was ever in the area without hesitation. read more

This will be our new breakfast place when we are in Vancouver. It was a short (but COLD) walk from our hotel. We got a lovely booth near the window so we got to see several seaplanes take off and land. We had some fresh squeezed orange juice. And then we shared the Boer's pancake and then a pancake with fresh whip cream and raspberries. All the meat that came with the Boer's was very good. And the fresh whip cream was so good (why so few restaurants can manage to whip their own cream is beyond me. The stuff from a can is no substitute) with the tart raspberries on the pancake. Had a couple of very great breakfasts here a couple of weeks ago! Servers are all quite friendly. It was very busy Saturday morning compared to Friday morning but that was to be expected. Found this place on my last day in Vancouver. It's a pleasant location, right on the harbor walkway. I ordered the hash and the pannekoeken which are a flat, light pancake. I ate the pancake like bread - really delish! - but you can also use syrup and eat them like traditional pancakes. I found it odd that De Dutch never came up in any of my Yelp searches for a breakfast place near our hotel. It wasn't until our last day in Vancouver did we find De Dutch via Google maps. I wanted to get a photo of the Olympic Cauldron before we left Vancouver. So to confirm exactly where the Cauldron was located, I looked on Google maps where I also saw De Dutch. It's a hidden place that is right on the bay boardwalk. This makes for an incredible view during your meal. If you can sit outside, all the better, but the seats inside the restaurant certainly provides excellent views of Vancouver Harbor thanks to De Dutch's huge glass windows. My daughter and I ordered pannekoeken. She got the classic which was just the pannekoeken with a strawberry topping. I got the hash pannekoken which included hash browns, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and cheddar mixed with sausage. The pannekoeken has a firmer texture than pancakes and is a lot thinner. Beyond that it's largely the same flavor. While I thought my hash pannekoeken was fine, it wasn't more than that. Our waitress was fantastic - very attentive and friendly. Overall, I can say that the staff were all great. However, while I recognize it's a sensitive subject, the host should be made aware he has an body odor issue. I'm not sure if it's simply because he doesn't use deodorant or what, but the small is quite pungent. As he walked around the restaurant seating people, I noticed others wincing moments after he walked by. It's quite off-putting as you're eating and a whiff of pungent smell hits your nose. To be clear, he was very friendly and was very professional as he greeted and sat guests. Overall, a good breakfast with much better service. read more

However management needs to ensure there are armless chairs for the patio so that people of all sizes can enjoy the view and (more importantly) have the option to avoid COVID. And educate their staff. The young server today, while pleasant, was insensitive to our fellow customer's needs today and only presented moving inside as an option when there is no good reason an armless indoor chair couldn't have been brought out. The customer did not push the issue but I almost did on his behalf, having been in that situation myself. Sadly the lack of size/weight accomodations is the last acceptable form of discrimination. read more

Loved the food here! The Dutch-themed breakfasts were excellent, and I tried several. The service was so indifferent as to detract, which resulted in the 4 stars instead of 5. This was my first trip to Canada, and everyone had been really amazing, and then at De Dutch the waitstaff acted like Americans :).
