The sandwiches were good! The bread was especially nice. The hawaiian luau was the star for sure - nice salty combination and all the flavors work well together, while the unagi sandwich was ok (not much unagi so you don't get it in every bite, and the flavor combo did not hit for me, but it was not bad). The strawberry matcha brings the ratings down for me. Unfortunately it was just really gritty and the strawberry part was super sweet but hard to stir in, so the matcha ends up grainy and bitter and the jammy part with the strawberry is very sweet. This place is a bit hidden inside the building, but if you keep walking past the elevators you'll find it! read more

I ordered the Pulled Beef and Truffle Mushroom Egg Toast Sandwiches. I'll say my favorite part of both sandwiches was the bread. Slightly buttery, nice light crunch and lightly toasted. For both sandwiches, the egg was the real star of the show. But not in a good way. The portion was huge and it was cooked really well. It just really lacked flavor. Some salt would have elevated it so much. The brioche bread was also really good. I'm sorry to say but it was just overwhelmingly bland. The Truffle Mushroom smelled really good, the mushrooms had a good bite to it, but it looked better than it tasted. The cheese could have been melted a little longer. The whole sandwich just lacked flavor. The pulled beef was a little better. The beef was actually good, seasoned well, not overcooked and moist, but again, it was overpowered by the bland eggs. To be fair, I could have used the table salt, but the salt shaker looked dirty. I did get up to ask for ketchup and my sandwiches tasted better, but it's also sad knowing that I needed ketchup for a sandwich to taste better. I'm sorry but I left full and unsatisfied. Heard New Jeans playing and did not put together that their egg toast is Korean inspired until later. Got the spam egg toast with an iced americano. I visited the Bread x Butter Cafe located in downtown. It's in a hotel lobby pretty hidden from foot traffic. When I went in, they had some special summer drinks so we tried their coconut matcha and another drink which had aloe, orange juice, soda, and a shot of espresso. I couldn't taste the coconut in the matcha and the other drink (can't remember the name) was very bitter. We thought that the combination of the ingredients would go well together but it did not. For food, I got their famous truffle mushroom egg toast. It was pretty cheesy and good but lacked flavour. I wasn't sure what the hype was but the aesthetics were good! The other thing we got was their mushroom toast, which was served cold to us and was just a slice of bread with mushroom, salt, pepper, and cream cheese. The service was ok, they were quick to take our order and didn't take much time to get the order ready. Wouldn't say they were the friendliest. Haven't tried their Burnaby location yet!! read more

Cute place, kind service, good food! Many thanks to the previous Yelpers who described how to find this place because it was definitely hard to find. Glad there was a mini-sandwich board outside and that my partner spotted it entering from the Hornby entrance. The cafe faces the Bill Reid Gallery of Coast Art. I got the Avocado Me egg toast, a side salad, and a London Fog. I was impressed with the amount of egg, and I appreciated the fluffy toast. It looked difficult to eat, but it was constructed well, and I had no trouble at all. The side salad was also significant, which I was quite happy about because it's hard to eat enough vegetables while traveling. It included mixed greens, beets, carrots, cucumber, and celery topped with a vinaigrette. The London Fog was also quite lovely--the perfect amount of foam and sweetener for my taste. It is a little pricey for what it is, but this cafe is my type of place and I'm on vacation. read more

We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday, and as the other reviews said, it's a bit hard to find. You just have to enter the office building and then follow the noise. There is standard cafeteria type seating, and it was getting pretty full by the time we arrived. It's very casual, where you look at the menu postered on the counter. You order and pay first, find a seat, and the food will be delivered to you. You can get water in plastic cups if you ask for it. Two of us ordered egg breakfast sandwiches ($11), while two of us ordered the udon specials ($14). I got the udon mixed with salmon roe and furikake, and I didn't care for the combination. The other was udon mixed in with bulgogi. Both were topped off with a overeasy egg. The sandwiches had plenty of scrambled egg, and the brioche egg bun was thick and expertly grilled. But the ingredients didn't seem like it was top notch, and everything was put together a bit haphazardly. It definitely gave off cafeteria, mass produced food vibes. The menu is definitely large, but wouldn't really want anything else on the menu. It's a kinda place where it would fit as a courthouse cafe, where jurors and professionals would eat their lunch while continuing their trial...you take advantage of the food because you have to be there, but wouldn't come there just for the food. I was staying in DT Vancouver and the breakfast at the hotel was too large, so I was looking for a place where I could easily get toast and a cappuccino. I luckily found this place within 5 minutes walking from my hotel. However, I didn't check the location carefully and ended up passing by the store. *Located inside the "Cathedral Place Building". There is another coffee shop on the right when you enter but keep walk straight, you'll reach this place. I had decided to order bread and butter, but the staff was kind, so I changed order "Avocado me" and (L) Almond milk latte. There is space where you can eat inside the store. The courtyard of the building that can be seen from the window is wonderful. Avocado-Me is Brioche loaf, fresh avocado, scramble eggs, cheddar and kewpie mayo. Avocado me was warm and delicious. This spot is located inside the cathedral place building. This building is aesthetic! There's plenty of seating and music is played on a speaker. You order first and the staff will bring your food to you. I've ordered the Hawaiian Luau Egg Toast which consists of Brioche loaf, spam, scrambled eggs, cheddar, crispy seaweed, and kewpie mayo. The toast is pretty thick and the eggs were really fluffy! Overall I enjoyed this! I wished there were more seasoning or sauce to drizzle on top though. Get the Spam! Don't be silly like me and try to get something else. They do Spam well and their seasonings are the perfect combo for a Spam and egg sandwich. There was plenty of seating and it likely would've been a good spot to sit and do some work if you needed access to wifi and/or needed to get out of the rain for a while. It was a little confusing to find as there is construction going on, but wasn't too difficult once you follow the signage. Such a simple concept with big flavors. I ordered the Prawn Star, which is fluffy scrambled eggs, cheese, poached prawns with lemon and capers aioli between two buttered toast. A HIDDEN GEM. This place definitely needs more reviews. It's a little cafe tucked within a business building. A pretty unconventional place. I didn't have high expectations for the food but I was definitely proved wrong! I think they change the menu often because it is completely written on a chalkboard and looking at previous reviews of this place, they didn't have some of the items that were pictured. Nonetheless, they have a modest but delicious-sounding menu with a lot of asian inspired flavors. When we were here, it looked like their main menu items were udon noodles and egg toast. I got the crispy ebi toast and my boyfriend got the mushroom truffle udon. Both were incredible. The ebi toast had a soft pillowy bread that was perfectly toasted and the ebi was so crispy and satisfying. I don't know how they made the eggs so fluffy but it was to die for. The truffle udon had a medium truffle taste with loads of mushrooms and a runny egg on top! If I worked in this building, I would be coming here everyday. They are one of the downtown financial district's earliest cafe openings (apart from your fast food Tims and McDonalds). I ordered on Ritual shortly after they opened and was able to get my order quite quickly. I decided to try their spam egg toast and their matcha latte with oat milk. It looks like they took over the old Filipino cafe/catering that used to be in Cathedral Place (could be wrong about that). There is lots of dine in seating and I could see it being a popular spot post covid fears. I noticed that they have changed their compilation/display of their spam egg toast - the first few pictures I saw, used shredded nori on the kewpie mayo. When I saw that, my first thought was oh, it was going to be a bit messy to eat, although aesthetically pleasing. I was super glad to see they have now grated it finer so its more similar to a pepper-like consistency, so you don't waste any of the nori. Not sure if it was due to customer feedback or their own in-house testing. Really liked their spam egg toast; super filling, perfectly fluffy scrambled eggs, well toasted and put together. Only criticism is I wish there was more Kewpie mayo :) The matcha latte with oat milk was pretty good as well. The staff making it asked if I wanted some syrup for sweetener and had me taste it before I left so that he could add more syrup if needed. Quite thoughtful and much appreciated. I will be back to try some of their other egg toasts and other menu items! One day I'll get down here for the weekend brunch menu, which also looks delicious. read more

The location of this spot is a little weird. It's in a corporate building that's totally silent on weekends, so when we came it was hard to find. A very gruff front door manager directed us but only after we wandered around the lobby for awhile. The setup feels like they haven't fully moved in-- there were a lot of boxes everywhere, and it was hard to find a complete menu. The seating didn't match the other cute branding/decor, and it felt like we were sitting in an abandoned mall. I got the truffle udon which had great flavor but was very rich and a little cold; I wasn't sure if it was meant to be a hot or cold dish. It was also a pretty expensive lunch! As we were finishing eating, we realized we were across a courtyard from the Bill Reid gallery, which is excellent and made the location feel a little bit less like we were at a corporate office after-hours. I'd like to come back and try something else off the menu, since people seem to love it overall! I would give this place a 3.5/5 if I could. This cute little cafe has lots of sandwich choices and lunch choices. Not to mention a beautiful little courthouse outside. I had the matcha latte and the Hawaiian egg toast. The 3/5 is strictly for the Hawaiian egg toast as the egg was creamy and delicious and the spam wonderfully crispy but the bread got soggy so quickly and kind of just melted into the paper. The combination of egg, spam and seaweed is a total classic. Matcha latte was definitely a 3.5/5 - not overly sweet but I wish there was a bit more matcha to make it stronger (just a tad).The service was super friendly.
