De Pasada is a stone's throw away from where I live so I get to go there pretty often. The food here is great, big portions of quality food. I usually get steak in whatever I order, it never disappoints. Service is great, it's nice and laid back and its open late too. This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city. It's a great value for your money, good quality, and authentic. I've ordered takeout before, however I enjoy it much more when I dine in. A few things before dining in: this place is quite small. It can get pretty crowded and sometimes service is a little slow because they tend to be so busy. They also allow customers to pick their own seats; most of the time people are pretty cognizant and won't pick a bigger table than necessary, however it can happen. There is also a minimum for a credit card ($8 I believe). The veggie burrito is my favorite to go. I douse it with the hot sauce that they give (I love the red salsa). They offer chips and green/red salsa when you dine-in. They definitely have a kick to them (especially the green one). I enjoy them, but need a glass or two of water by the end of my meal. I've also tried the tacos and the gordita. I wasn't a big fan of the gordita; it was quite difficult to eat and got quite messy. The tacos are a great deal for the price and especially if you want a lighter meal. I love that this place is open late (and they tend to be busy until they close). I've ordered from here for years and it's great. Everything comes out quickly-order in or take out. The chicken used to be bland, but it's been significantly better the past couple years. I love the vegetarian burritos, combo plates, and the carne asada tacos are amazing. Free chips and guacamole if you dine in. The staff is very kind and attentive. Ordered through grubhub. 20+ minute late delivery. Refused to bring up on elevator and had to go out to street. Called the restaurant at least 15 times and she hung up on me at least 7 times and answered only 7 times. The rest of the time she let it go to VM. Called from another phone and she answered....Said the burrito was served cold because it was the deluxe and had lettuce and tomato and that came from the refrigerator and they do not warm any items up that come from the fridge that go into burritos and other food items. She kept calling me honey and said they had been there for 19 years and I basically could go suck it as that is how they serve their food. You can never go wrong with Mexican food. Horchata over here is actually so much tastier than any other Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. And the food was so filling! With the food being delicious and the service being really friendly and consistent, this place would be considered as one of the top restaurants on Taylor street. You should try the Fajita dinner. I tried both the chicken and the beef. They both do not disappoint. You can see your food being cooked and the staff is really friendly. They always clean their tables. I also get there chicken burritos with extra spice. They don't cook the jalapenos, which makes it taste crunchy and a lot more spicy. A Taco Tuesday review. The staff is first and foremost very friendly. Accompanied by tasty food, De Pasada makes for an enjoyable experience. It's fairly easy to find paid street parking out front and it's not too busy of an area. Eat in and the first chips and salsa (verde and roja) are free which is stated on the menu. The salsas have a spicy kick. What I like most about the menu is that the break out the tacos in traditional (cilantro and onions) and super (lettuce, sour cream, cheese, etc.). We ordered steak, chicken, lengua, and al pastor tacos. The steak and lengua were my favorite. Juicy and well marinated. The al pastor is a little different than other places, less flavorful but well cooked. Not sure I would order it again but worth a try. Also ordered a side of guac which was enough for a small change up in taste from the salsas. The rice was also well prepared, soft and fluffy. To drink, we order a coke and horchata. Made it back here after trying it for the first time a few months ago. I had been curious if it's really as good as the small sample size I experienced before. So this time I dined in with my partner in crime. First off, I dig the style of this place. It's clean and cozy, but still maintains the small Mexican restaurant atmosphere. Yes, there's no law that says all taquerias need to look like they'd fail the health inspection on the drop of a dime in order to be considered authentic. I guess you could say this place goes against the grain a little bit. Added points for the BYOB and flat screen TV. As far as the food? OMG the food. The first time was no fluke. The food here is pretty marvelous. I ordered the 3 taco dinner. Two carne asada, and one barbacoa. Mouth watering GRILLED steak (makes all the difference), and some equally wonderful barbacoa made for one of the best meals I'd had in weeks. The girl ordered the chicken flautas, which were also excellent. The salsas, in particular the salsa verde, provide plenty of kick. No weak ass salsa there. The rice and beans are standard but good. Once major thing I should mention about the serivce: I realized when I got back to the house is I left my iPhone at the restaurant. So I called and the nice girl at the register said they discovered it and will be there waiting for me whenever I wanted to come get it. Thanks, honest people of De Pasada! De Pasada blew me away. The decor was simple and laid back, a couple of guys watching soccer, the owner running food and taking orders, nice lighting. All around cozy place. Got to the table, had delicious chips and salsa, which is always awesome and checked the menu. My mentality the first trip to a mexican joint is "try as many different kinds of tacos as possible" Picadillo, Barbacoa, Carne Asada, steal girlfriends chicken burrito. Everything was good, the Barbacoa was fantastic, and I was about to leave a satisfied customer. While paying we learned that there's a (minor) discount for students, which is awesome cause I have no money, and making cheap tacos cheaper is a surefire method of winning my heart. I come back a week later, not only did the woman working remember me from last week and remember my order, she followed up on some small talk from my last visit: where my girlfriend was, how my project I was talking about went, etc. Any place that goes out of their way to make a personal connection with the people who eat their food is worthwhile. Any place that has yummy delicious food attracts my attention, as I am a fan of yummy delicious food. If you are looking for a place that is exceptionally reasonable, the perfect location for prior to Bulls or White Sox games, and you crave good Mexican, then this is the place for you. Somewhere between a fast food Mexican place, and a sit down restaurant, this is worth a stop. The service was better than great, with a wonderful woman who really was more than just excited about her job. She was terrific at steering us through their menu, and despite the fact that the place really became quite busy, she made sure we were not forgotten and out the door in time to get to the stadium for tip off. Highly recommend the steak tacos and chicken tacos. One of our group proclaimed the chicken taco as the best she has ever had, and she has had quite a few. Guacamole and salsa was outstanding. Quiero Taco Bell? Nah, this place is better (and less out of the way). If you are looking for cheap burritos (I recommend veggie or chicken), fajitas, and tacos that will fill you up, you should try De Pasada. They also have free chips and salsa when dining in, which are delicious. The only issue I've had with them is that their ability to take credit cards is lost pretty frequently, and without warning. I have placed pick-up orders on the phone only to find out upon arrival that their credit card machine was not working. I'd recommend asking if they are currently taking credit cards if you ever place a phone pick-up order to avoid the hassle. read more

They told me it would just be about 15 minutes which was fine. We ordered 3 carne asada tacos with everything on it in addition to steak nachos which came well recommended on this site. The nachos were good as it came with all the usuals like steak and the chips (of course), jalapeños, cheese, guac and sour cream...tomatoes were missing from the mix though. The tacos were very weak as the flavor from the meat was nice, but the taco seemed very dry. Even adding the green salsa didn't help and they must have forgotten to give us the red sauce. The horchata was very good and helped wash down the dry tacos. Would come back for the nachos but not the tacos. I work nearby and this has been one of my favorite Mexican places anywhere in Chicago. However, I have noticed in the last few months or so their food isn't as enjoyable as before. For example, today I ordered torta milanesa and found the meat to be chewy and having a weird flavor. I have had their torta milanesa many times before and I've enjoyed it every time, but this time it was not good. I didn't even finish eating it. (Good thing I ordered a chicken tostada, in addition.) I few weeks back I dined in for lunch and had tacos and a side of rice. Their rice was, literally, 2 tablespoons of rice. What an insult! And that cost me $1. Charge me $2 but give me more than a couple of tablespoons! I will hesitate coming here from now on just because I feel the quality (and quantity) of food has gone down. read more

I recommend the carne asada super burrito, better known as the "copper's special," for all of Chicago's finest that patronize De Pasada. They'd better be careful with their butchering, what with all the cops eating there. I've never had a chicken taco this delicious before. It's shredded and simple with cilantro and onion and the price is right. I've been eating this for years and it never gets old. I ended up coming back here when I needed a quick meal. I'm glad I did! I think the first veggie burrito I got was off, but the one I got this time was much better. All of the ingredients worked perfectly, and I'm glad it comes with guacamole inside. However, I would skip the chips/salsa/guac at this place. This is an unexpected thrill in the realm of what used to be only Italian restaurants. Although the decor is nothing fancy the food is spectacular and the service is friendly. They have the best steak burritos in the world. The carne asada super burritos are delicious and blow your Chipolte and usual taco stand away. The steak is juicy and plentiful, a good amount of guacamole and other ingredients to fill you up no matter how hungry you are.
