Both were great choices but a ton of food. The broccoli was super sweet with a little wasabi after kick. The turkey BLT was thick cut turkey breast not overshadowed by the bacon. A lot of times a BLT is just assuming that you just want a bacon sandwich. Not this one. I'm not supposed to have bacon so I have to remove it. It's a shame when I'm out traveling I don't get to share these experiences with my wife. I'd love for her to try this place.

A private party inside had 1/2 hour left. Yet, I noticed that not anyone was outside at all. They said the 10 blue umbrella space was paid for , even if not being used - so leave. The cafe could have used that lovely new blue umbrellas 10 extra outside seating area, (as cafe was extremely busy and weather was splendid. ) I retreated back to the cafe outside area, and stood up to eat. I noticed the concrete was broken, sticks everywhere and the umbrellas on this side were not secured well , thus blowing in the breeze. The nice private other side of the deck remained unoccupied with the extra -10 blue umbrellas at the tables closed off for the rest of the afternoon. Still closed and totally unoccupied even after the time was up. (The private party apparently choice to remain inside. ) Meanwhile, cafe side remained crowded. Food was expensive $16 for a salad. $4.25 for lavender lemonade. Not the Best experience. The view was lovely.

SUMMARY: Go here if you want the freshest and best prepared food in Worcester, paired with a very reasonably priced and unique wine list, interesting beer on tap and craft made cocktails served by a friendly and knowledgable staff. My wife and I will be back, and often. DETAILS: I went to deadhorse hill on a busy Friday night, about a week after it opened. I had been looking forward to this opening for the last couple months after watching the chef win Cutthroat Kitchen on The Food Network last fall, so my expectations were very high. The space is a beautiful mix of natural looking wood, exposed brick, antique tin ceilings and plaster archways. The copper accents on many of the light fixtures add a really modern touch. High ceilings make the space feel expansive. The welcoming staff was very friendly, both on the phone and when I walked in the door on what was obviously a very busy night. Our server Patrick was friendly, knowledgable when we had questions, and the right amount of attentive. All the servers where wearing Worcester themed t-shirts from local company Worcester wares, which were a really cool look when paired with their service aprons. The menu is organized into Small (apps), Large (entres) and Centerpieces, which are larger dishes designed to be shared. We had the rib-eye centerpiece, which was more than enough food for two (probably ideal to share with three or more if getting multiple dishes) and paired with some very interesting flavors on the plate. The maple glazed donut and ice cream for dessert left us feeling very satisfied. Service was a touch slow between courses, which I attribute to a new staff learning to work as a team. I think those issues will work themselves out over the next few months and then this restaurant is going to be unstoppable. RECOMENDATIONS: All the food we tried was fresh and interesting, but the pasta and chix thighs are really unique. UPDATE TO PRIOR REVIEW To state that this update is overdue could be the understatement of the month. It has been years since I unfairly vented my frustration at this place, some of which was fair, but in re-reading my review (a nearly illegible one, with copious misspellings and auto+-corrects) I recognize that I took out frustrations which were not the fault of this place. I still have not returned (for a variety of reasons) but I owe the owner a public apology especailly since he had the graciousness and civility to express his concern for my disappointment. Maybe this place is a diamond in the ruff (the El Bulli of Worcester??) and if it is then let's keep in mind that patronizing local businesses is the heartbeat of building back up towns which once flourished and have now suffered the ravages of the pandemic. I say give Deadhorse a try! It's those unexpected treasures which add delighted and happiness to our lives. And Worcester is, uh..I guess it's not that bad :-) read more

My wife and I ate here at Dead Horse Hill for Brunch yesterday. It was amazing, the staff was really knowledgeable, as well as being friendly and accommodating, we have a 6 month old boy, and when he dropped his toys on the floor, the staff rinsed them off and returned them to him multiple times. the Food was as good or better than many of the restaurants that we go to in cambridge/ boston. We got the porkbelly salad, it had quail eggs, and fried porkbelly, fried in pork fat, sooo tasty. The Fried Chicken with waffles is a classic comfort food, and the fired clams omelet was an interesting take on beach food combined with breakfast. we can't wait to get back here again. Never going back. We were told we had to place our food order all at once because there were larger parties there. We ordered, and the appetizers came out pretty quickly -- they were just okay. Then our entrees never showed up until we finally mentioned it to the waiter. About five minutes later, the chef came over to apologize. After waiting nearly an hour, our food finally arrived. The fries were stale, and the salmon had absolutely no flavor -- I barely touched it. To top it all off, when the bill came, nothing was comped despite the delay and issues with the order. This location is fantastic. We had been expecting its debut, and we were not disappointed! Chef Jared is a foodie with a lot of talent and excitement. All on the menu is seasonal and changes regularly. Last night, I went there again and had incredible steak tartare, gnocchi with rock shrimp, and the best-fried chicken I've ever had! We shared a whole fried sea bass with Thai-style sauce and rice for the main course. The fish was deliciously fresh, juicy, and perfectly fried. The waitress who I believe was named Erica (she was the younger taller girl, there were two of them) the one that greeted us was rude and needs to work on her interpersonal/engagement skills and to not mumble (they both were mumbling and you could not hear or decipher what they were saying but then she wanted to cop an attitude because I was about to check her), it was our first time so we walk in taken back at how small it was, she wanted us to wait outside but instead of staying such she gave us a dirty look and her attitude continued at the counter. It is very cramped in there and sitting at the counter was uncomfortably close to other patrons, if I return it will be during the work week but will wait for a booth free up.

Beyond the admittedly dated decor and past the countertop service of dinner standards is a kitchen that turns out food that hits well above its weight. With a daily list of specials that would do most $50 a plate restaurants proud expect to have your first impressions blown away. Haddock cooked with a very Mediterranean mix of artichokes, olives, onions, and cherry tomato's in a lemon/butter/ fish stock, Jambalaya done wet in the traditional New Orleans style with house made creol seasoning, a shrimp and veg stir fry with Bok Choy served uniquely with fat fettuccine noodles in the house made broth. All spectacularly good, all incredibly under priced! A word about the wine list: there is none! Far better, it's BYOB with food that justifies pulling your better bottles. Perfect. Don't spread this around, but the daily lunch specials mirror the by reservation only dinner menu...for half the price. In sum, Theater Cafe far exceedes expectations and delivers a remarkable value. You come here for the food, not for the ambiance, perfect service, to be seen by the right people, or God forbid because some snooty food critic deigned to give it 5 stars. It's a place Michelin will never review and we should all be greatful for that.

She tells me the pancakes are "the best she's ever had." Very fluffy and flavorful. I had the Pickle Barrel Omelette. It has sausage, feta, tomatoes, onions and peppers. Mine was average, at best. The home fries needed seasoning, badly. The omelette was good. Mainly carried by the feta. We did agree on the coffee: not favorably. It "delivered the goods," but it wasn't very good. It seemed watery.

It took the servers about two minutes to realize the mistake and attempt bring us the correct order, they had hoped we hadn't started eating the hash meant for another customer. Although the mix-up was understandable, it was a bit frustrating not to get our raisin toast or runny, sunny-side-up eggs as expected. We stayed with the wrong order and our was brought back to the kitchen. The biggest drawback, however, is the outdated ambiance. I appreciate the vintage, long-time diner charm, but the decor needs some attention: the cups are showing wear, the shades are dusty, and the hallway to the bathroom feels cluttered. The bathroom itself could use a thorough cleaning, the soap dispenser was empty, and the backup pump wasn't working properly, making the space feel less sanitary. A small renovation to refresh the space while preserving its classic appeal would really enhance the overall experience.

I didn't want the toast or potatoes so I asked for the corn muffin. The muffin was cut in half but somehow they burned one half of tbe muffin. Let me ask again, in an area with classic diners serving amazing food and sit down restaurants where the food is legitimately great why would I ever eat here again.
