I came here on Sunday because I wanted to do my hair for my sons baptism. Once I walked in Jay asked if my appointment was for a haircut and I said no that it was to color my hair. I showed her what I wanted and she agreed. Once she was almost done she said she needed to cut my hair and started trimming it. When she was styling my hair I asked her for the price and she said $350 and I asked her why so much and she said haircut cut can cost around $60 to $70 which i never asked for a haircut.I paid and when I walked out I bawled my eyes out because I hated my hair and I was ripped off. My 8 yo just had her haircut here for $60. I was quoted $28 for a children's haircut and was a bit surprised at the cost. Tracy said it was because she has long thick Asian hair. On top of that she left her in the middle of her haircut for 15 minutes to take care of another client, when said it would be 5 minutes. Haircut is fine but not worth $60, which is the women's haircut price. Disappointed at the miscommunication. read more

This was my first in salon experience since before covid happened at oh my goodness it was a wonderful experience. I've been burning the candle at both ends and well I needed some self care. My uncle took me here to his favorite stylist and she worked wonders for both of us. I got a simple trim and layers and Jay did a great job for a decent price. She listened to what I wanted, while also offering suggestions as to what she thought might be nice for my hair. My hair reached right about my waist and definitely needed a good cut. Very old style cutting technics and cut the hair too short and too thin ( I asked to trim to a specific length and emphasized I'd like volume, neither satisfied). I commented it's too short, and the stylist said it's fine hair grows back fast, the altitudes pissed me off. Won't visit again. I went to DeBe Salon yesterday, I had a terrible experience. I made an appointment over the phone with Jay I explain what I wanted. I told her I wanted to dye my hair Blue Black, the blue was supposed to be blue highlights on black hair. So she said that it was fine. So the the day of the appointment I get there and as soon she saw my long curly hair. She said oh you got a lot of hair and the ends are pretty dry and damaged, you want a trim too. I told her yeah sure 2 inches, the woman cut 6 inches. I told her that she was leaving my hair a length I did not want. Then she said that she was going to be able to do just one process today to tone my hair even. And instead of dying my hair black she dyed it dark brown. She said the process I wanted with the blue black was going to take 5 hrs. Her clients were going to be mad at her because she was going to take a long time with one person. I told her that I could come another day, and that I was willing to wait if she need it to cut someone else's hair. Then she asked me if I had done the blue black hair I told her yes, this is the color I normally do on my hair. I just have not done it in awhile because of the pandemic. Then she told me I should go to the hair salon I normally go to because my hair was going to take a long time. She said I'm sure they're cheaper than here at San Mateo. She said that she is use to working with straight hair. Only with Caucasians and Asians. I'm just seating there listening to her saying all these horrible things to me. Then she said I'm going to ask the owner how much it would be for the highlights if you come next time. I told her that it was fine I did not want to know. She did not listen. So the owner was nice and said I had beautiful hair I told her thank you. So Jay explains to the owner what I want and Jay whispers something to the owner so both of them came with the price of $ 480 for a blue black hair process. Jay says this is the price if you do the blue black. I knew what she was doing, she wanted me to say oh this is too expensive, but I didn't I went along with it. I told her that the price was just about what I pay for my hair. I cannot believe all of the things this person said to me, that I'm still shocked. Jay is either racist or she has never done the process of blue black hair before. She's very unprofessional. She shouldn't be working with the public. So think before you make an appointment Jay is not professional! She makes people feel uncomfortable with her inappropriate comments. Jay think before you speak! read more

$60 for women Haircut that is not even that difficult (semi-layered). $120 for whole head of color that is not evenly done. Disaster!

Jessica was my stylist. I showed her my reference photo that was long layers with face framing pieces. The shortest piece of hair in the reference photo was below the chin. Without my permission or knowledge, she started thinning out my hair. She had used thinning shears and hacked away most of the top layer of my hair and commented that I "still had a good amount of hair." I was left looking like a jellyfish where the top half of my head was spherical with these long tendrils on the bottom (think emo/scene hair of the 2000s). Not to mention that the sides of my hair were completely uneven. This was not at all what I asked for and couldn't have looked further from my reference photo. She did what she wanted to my hair with no regard for what I wanted and then quickly curled my hair so I couldn't tell what it looked like straight (which is how I usually style it). The only reason I am giving this salon 2/5 and not 1/5 is Joanne (another stylist at the salon) did what she could to salvage it but I ended up with a spherical bob haircut that is to my shoulders instead of the trim that I originally requested.... read more

I have naturally jet black hair and the blond level she took me to it's absolutely amazing. She takes care of my hair and she preserves the shine and the health. She's not like other colorists who drowns your hair in bleach to dry it out. My hair is still feels soft and healthy. I've been blonde for the past 6 years, and I will not trust any other colorist. I needed to get a shampoo and blow dry and they had decent yelp reviews so I looked on their website for pricing. Okay, listed at $25 and up. I have thick hair a couple inches below my collar bone so I figured I'd be in the "up" range. Maybe $35. Or $40. I called to confirm the service and the pricing and make an appointment with Tracy. When I arrived, Tracy seemed unhappy when I said I was there for a wash and blow dry. She informed me that the blow dry comes with no styling. Styling, which is just turning the hair in at the ends, is extra. She told me at LEAST $55. I was shocked. Disappointed, I pointed out the $25 and up price listed online. She said they never do $25 and pointed at a lady with short fine hair. "Even her, at least $27." Just on principle, why list the $25 on their site then? http://www.debesalon.com/services.html Finally, I asked how much a shampoo and blow dry would be with no styling. Tracy shrugged. "$50. Takes work." I got up and left. If I understand something is a certain price coming in that's one thing but telling me I'm getting charged over 200% of what is listed online and that this will come with minimal styling is really beyond the pale. I was so happy, and relieved, to find my long time hairdresser, Michelle here. Michelle and Vincent recently left another salon just down the street and were able to find a chair at Debe Salon. You know how it is - once you find someone that can cut your hair, especially Asian hair, you never want to lose them. I wish she worked more than just Sunday, but Vincent works Saturday and Sunday, and is a great stylist as well. He took care of me when Michelle was on leave, and also cut my son's hair once in a while. My daughter, who hates getting haircuts, is fine with Michelle. She is consistent and always does a great style on both of us. Michelle helps us out for special occasions as well. I think she did an updo for my daughter and me about 4-5 times. Plenty of parking and very reasonably priced. Give them a try if you need an experienced hair stylist. read more

Pros: I walked in without an appointment and they were able to accommodate me really fast. Cons: During the combing phase, the hairdresser pulled my hair so hard that I wanted to cry, at some point she got even more impatient and started to pull my wrangled hair apart directly by hand, trying to separate them. Which as you can imagine, hurts a lot. After the cut, my hair ends look quite unnatural - like some kid used a scissor to chop a straight line. The whole haircut took 20min, no hair wash or anything. Then she asked me for $55 + tip. Other reviews seem to be quite happy with certain hairdresser, so if you have to come, do yourself a favor and make an appointment instead of directly walking in. read more

Can I give them 0 stars? Just returned from my non-appointment from Debe Salon. Had appointment @ 10 AM and stylist (Joanne) was a no-show. Can I come back at 11 AM, really? Are you seriously going to ask me that??? Lost a customer for good for terrible first impression. Was going to try to this on a recommendation, but should have read the reviews. If you check the low star reviews, most are made b/c of no-show or last minute reschedules by stylists and poor customer service, which I can also attest to. Not a way to run a business at all.
