Revising my former review; Went from receiving the best cut I've EVER had to leaving totally depressed and feeling super unattractive! This is my third cut with Tracy. The first was AMAZING!!! The second cut wasn't as good and after waiting 20 minutes for my scheduled appointment, Tracy asked if I'd come back two hours later because she wasn't ready for me. My hair was clearly short at the time (look at my pix) though she charged me for a long cut anyway. Third and last time with Tracy, did not get the cut I asked for. . . A-line (Short in the back and much longer in the front). The one she had originally mastered! She said she would charge me for a short cut since I was unhappy. Again, we had already established that my hair WAS short to begin with. I'm leaving for New York and will now have to wear a hat for the whole trip. My hair looks really ugly and I feel pretty stupid for going back to her. I will not make that mistake again! read more

Can I give them 0 stars? Just returned from my non-appointment from Debe Salon. Had appointment @ 10 AM and stylist (Joanne) was a no-show. Can I come back at 11 AM, really? Are you seriously going to ask me that??? Lost a customer for good for terrible first impression. Was going to try to this on a recommendation, but should have read the reviews. If you check the low star reviews, most are made b/c of no-show or last minute reschedules by stylists and poor customer service, which I can also attest to. Not a way to run a business at all. So think twice or double confirm before making an appointment!!! read more

Picked this place cuz it was down the street from my house. I called in the morning to see how much for a haircut. The lady on the phone said it would be $30. I asked if I could just do a walk in and she said "okay whatever you want" I got there 10 minutes after I called and I told the lady that I had just called not too long ago for a haircut. She told me "no one was available at the moment and to come back at noon." Why would you say that I can do a walk in when I really couldn't? Anyways, the other lady who happened to be there said she can cut my hair and to wait 5-10 minutes. So I waited. Anyways got my hair cut. It wasn't bad. I cut a couple of inches off. Not too much. The lady took her time. I think her name was yoshiko? When it came time to pay they said it was $40. I reminded them that I was told on the phone that it would be only $30. She said that my hair was long so it was more expensive. Then she changed it to $35. I appreciate that I was able to do a walk in. And I appreciate that she took time to cut my hair. But I don't appreciate being told one thing and then you change it later. read more

I am so glad I found Debe Salon. Tracy is my go-to hairstylist as she ALWAYS outdoes my expectations and I walk away loving her work 100% of the time! She is the salon's Expert Hair Colorist, but I feel she is the salon's BEST hairstylist overall! The first time I came in, she sat me down with some hot tea and we spent some time looking through her digital collection on her iPad of hairstyles and color styles. She had a lot of great reference photos, but I also tried to describe what I wanted (and I admit, since I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted, I probably sounded confusing and vague): tapering in the front, layering in the back, fairly low maintenance, fun, different than my usual, but not too different, a deep reddish-purple color in front, etc. Tracy was patient, attentive to my concerns, and confident with her vision! She spent a LOT of time on me, taking great care to make me happy and carry out the style to the fullest potential. She didn't rush it--she spent a good, careful 4 hours with me on the haircut and coloring complete with shampooing, tinting adjustments to my liking, and double-checking to see if it looks just right! It definitely was worth every minute! Tracy is such a sweetheart and we enjoyed a fun conversation throughout. All the while I had 100% trust in her judgement! To top it all off, she gave me an incredible first-time customer discount! Awesome service at an awesome price, how much better can it get? I was extremely happy with what she'd done, I told my friends about her over Facebook. She offers referral discounts, too! I'd gotten compliments from co-workers, friends, and my boyfriend on my new 'do. Before Debe's Salon, I pretty much have had the same straight boring haircut all my life, and I wanted to change it up to something a little more modern and fun. Seeking a place that specialized in Asian styles, my friends have recommended places in Japantown, or Didi's in Burlingame, but in both cases I told them what I wanted and they simply ignored me and did what THEY wanted... so I ended up over-paying for the same boring (albeit shorter) style, or a style I wasn't even happy with. However, Debe's Salon has never left me with regret! I just went again yesterday, and asked for Tracy, who was available, luckily for me. They do take walk-ins, which is so nice for my busy schedule. I had her touch up the color on my bangs, since new hair had grown in and left a two-tone look. I also wanted the same style I had last I saw her, but with a shorter, summery fling to it. I sat back and let her do her thing. She gave me the same attentive and meticulous care as last time, never letting the quality of her work suffer. She took great pains to blend the color evenly across the two tones of hair, and matched the original vibrant reddish purple that I had loved before (when I came in the color had faded as it had been about 7 months ago since I got a touch-up). It was a relaxing, stress-free environment. After all the washing, re-tinting after initial dying, drying, and the lock-by-lock sculpting, I put on my glasses to get a better look at myself in the mirror... It was amazing! I could not believe how she gave me volume when my hair was so limp. She cut it short in the back, but longer and wispier in the front, something I loved, but only described it quickly in the beginning (it's her incredible vision at work again!). And the colors were solid and vibrant as ever. She had given me a brand new look once again that astounded me and exceeded my expectations! On top of that, she gave me the same discount she'd given me before, and I was grateful! I want to tell everyone to go to Tracy, she's absolutely incredible and I can honestly say you will not be disappointed! read more

I made an appointment via phone and was able to book one on the same day. I went to the plaza to get to the salon, and I had to really hunt for a parking spot because it was really busy on a Saturday. It's forgivable, since it's a small plaza. I got there and noticed the really pretty black board with all the pricing and names of the ladies. The place looked really clean and open. The lady, Yoshiko, who was supposed to cut my hair was still attending someone so I had to wait for about 10 minutes. She gave me magazines to look through for hair style ideas. When she was done with her client, she sat me and I told her that I want long layering and to make my hair look thin. She didn't wash my hair but went straight to spraying my hair with water. I guess it's not customary to wash hair for a hair cut? When she was done, she gave me a mirror to look at the back of my hair. I told her it was fine, but I should've told her that it was not what I was looking for. It just looked like she gave me a straight cut. Needless to say, I was just disappointed but wanted to get out of there because it seemed like she wanted to eat lunch and her friend was there waiting for her. When I was paying, I went to feel about my hair and saw that there were long strands that weren't cut at all. I told her and she went to cut it off and started looking at other parts of my hair. I LOOOOVE this place! I've been getting my hair cut at debe for about 2 years now and I've never had a complaint. I always have Joanne cut my hair. I think she's probably the best at debe. Joanne's good at all cuts and up-do's too! I've gotton my up-do's for prom done by her before and she's great! I used to have long hair and it was $35, but now that I've changed it to a shorter hair cut, its only $25... so I think its a really good deal. read more

The first time I had a haircut here was great. But I have to say something about their customer service for my 2nd appointment. I was scheduled an haircut with Debbie for Saturday around 12:15pm because I work that day till 12pm. Debbie called my cell phone that morning and I was not able to pick up because I was working. Debbie left a voice mail wanting me to come earlier. When I called back at 12pm wondering what is going on, Debbie already left the salon. Honestly, I don't mind people wanting to reschedule and stuff, but please at least tell me 24 hours ahead instead of expecting me to always be on-call. Other hair dressers could not help me much either and I feel horrible being dropped from my appointment like that. I do not feel like going back there again. read more

I love love love my Tracy! I've been going to Tracy at Debe Salon for three years now and I'm always very happy and ecstatic every time I leave and here are the reasons why... I want my hair cut and color exactly the way I want it and she listens and does exactly what I want. You know that when you look good, you feel good and you will get compliments from everyone... family, friends, even strangers :) Tracy is the only one I trust my hair with and I recommend her to everyone. I live in San Jose and she's in Foster City. I will drive however long to go to her. The service is phenomenal and the people are very friendly at Debe Salon. I have had my hair cut thrice and each time the results have been inconsistent.The last time I was there ,was a real nightmare as Debe was in a rush to leave and pretty much took it out on my hair.She didn't even wash or blow dry it like usual and virtually butchered my hair,as a result my short bob looked uneven and choppy. She was aware of my displeasure and asked me to come back if it needed to be fixed.I will have to grow it out for a couple of months before it even looks half decent.Their prices are reasonable but the service is pretty lackluster and the salon itself isn't Debe's main business and that reflects in their apathy.I really wanted to give them a chance but after last time's fiasco,I won't be going back here.Alas!My never ending search for a good hair salon in Foster City continues..... read more

I love Debe Salon. Jenny has done a manicure/pedicure with tips and also a manicure without tips for me. All three were French, as well. The prices are comparable, and Jenny is so friendly! She did exactly what I asked and listened to my concerns. She was sure to make sure my nails didn't come out looking thick or stubby-I hate when they look that way! She also used that crystal stuff to make them last longer and feel smoother. I've gotten so many compliments at work that I gave out 5 of her business cards already. I will definitely go back and keep recommending my friends and others to go. I am even planning on having Debe cut my hair, b/c I loved Jenny's service so much! read more

I went in for a haircut the first time about a month ago, and it was Yoshiko who cut my hair and I was pretty happy with the result. She is very precise and quick. She definitely seems very experienced and understands what I want in terms of styling. Just recently, I went there the second time without a reservation and Yoshiko and other three Asian hair stylists were busy with customers. Since I didn't say I wanted to wait so the person at cashier just brought me in with another lady (Caucasian with short, a little curly hair and not too tall/ I don't know her name) and she started cutting my hair. I thought, why not, I was just getting my bangs cut. I told her I liked my bangs and just wanted them shorter so that they could fall just above the eyebrows as my bangs used to fall very smoothly from right to left. She told me to close my eye when she was cutting my hair, and then I heard something dropped on the floor and she had to pick it up. I could just feel that she was clumsy and I wasn't feeling too comfortable the way she cut my hair. The next time I opened my eyes and to my horror, my bangs were cut slanted and uneven from right to left with about 1" difference in length and the shortest part was about 2" long only. I should have said something then but I didn't want to confront anyone at the time. Anyway, I think at least I can warn people on yelp so you don't pick the wrong stylist. My husband also went there after I got my hair cut from Yoshiko, he had Joanne cut his hair and it was also good. I will go again but will definitely go for Yoshiko and Joanne since I know what they are capable of. read more

Tracy is an absolute sweetheart. I get my hair cut, dyed, and highlighted by her on whatever occasion it be. I always recommend people to her because she just does an excellent job. I've had my hair cut by others here but I've stuck to Tracy the most. The atmosphere is nice with a variety of music in the salon. Plenty of magazines to read as well. I have been going to debe salon for many years now. Tracy is excellent and she Does the best hair extensions in the Bay Area ! I travel a lot and by far this salon is the best. I have tried getting extensions done elsewhere NYC , chicago etc with different stylists but each time I could tell the difference ... The way my head would hurt or cheap quality extensions . I went to get a perm here and was recommended by a friend. I walked out having my hair all tangled and looking like hay. The lady was trying to not dry my hair as she said my hair will be frizzy after the perm and asked me to come back for hair treatment. I was confused at the salon as I never experience frizzy hair after a perm. I also realized there are so many spit ends after the perm. My hair was damaged so badly after the perm. I LOVE Debe Salon! I used to come here when I lived closeby and worked in that area. Now that I live closer to the south and work in this area, I haven't been able to go by there. I did try to at first, but with traffic, I wouldn't get there by 6:20 and I felt bad for having my stylist stay, but that is how awesome she is because she was willing to stay after hours just for me. When I had to do both color and cut, it would be already 7:40ish, so I decided to find somewhere closer to me...def want to go back soon though. Everyone here is amazing! Joann does my hair- cuts, highlights, and color and have always been very pleased. She has the BEST pricing that I've ever had, quality work, and great customer service. She knows my hair and what looks good on me. Farrah does a great job threading, so if you need threading done, ask her. When I used to get my nails done, Jenny used to take care of me. She does an amazing job and she's always so nice and funny. Hopefully I can come by to visit again soon because I miss all the girls there, until then, keep up the great work and prices! read more

I had an appointment at 5:50pm and its 6:55pm and I am still not in a seat. When I came in Tracy was coloring someone's hair and didn't look anywhere near done. I asked how long it would take and she said 10 mins. I didnt question that because I figured she would know better than me. WRONG. Dude if you are running behind just tell me the truth so I can re assess whether I want to leave. Don't waste my time. Update: I actually liked my haircut, so updating my review from 1-star for the horrible waiting experience to 2-stars cause the haircut was good. I've been there twice. The first time Yoshi cut my hair and the 2nd time was Tracy. I have to say Yoshi is super experience! I was a little anxious when trying a new salon I've never been to. I found a picture from their book and told Yoshi how I wanted it. She was quick and precise! I couldn't be happier with the result. The 2nd time I wanted to make an appointment with Yoshi but she was off. Tracy was very nice to take me in at 6pm. (They close at 6:30). She didn't rush to finish and get off work, instead, she was very detail when cutting my hair. It was a little different from the one that Yoshi did but it looks totally fine with me. I'm a recent LA transplant, a wedding hairstylist myself, and when it comes to hair, a) I'm super, super picky (I'm a virgo), and b) the talent up here is slim pickings (San Mateo/Foster City). I've shown the same inspiration image (blunt cut - see pic), to several stylists, and no one has been able to achieve it as perfectly as Joanne has. You would think it's so simple - a straight, blunt cut. Nope. I've come home with a mullet, the 90s shag, you name it. What I also love about Joanne is that she's quick. To save myself time, I wash my hair and dry it before I go in. I'm a mom to two babies, and I don't have the luxury to spend a ton of time at the salon. Joanne works with precision and skill, and I appreciate her humble approach to her amazing work. I've rotated among the other chairs at the salon, and hands down, Joanne is the best at Debe Salon.
