Im a cookie person and tried their famous chocolate chip w/ walnuts and OMG it was wonderful!!

My cookie craving led me here. Upon arriving, my sight went straight to the massive cookies that were inside the display case; they're huge!! Lol. Was a little overwhelmed with all of the flavors at first, but ended up getting the white choco cranberry, Oreo choco chip, and peanut butter choco chip. 3 for $5; sweet deal considering how big these cookies are. For the white choco cranberry and Oreo choco chip cookies, they were very hard and were a bit messy to eat as each bite made a bunch of crumbs; they may have been in the oven for a tad too long?? The peanut butter choco chip was a real winner though; chewy at the center, crispy on the edge, peanut buttery and chocolatey goodness. Definitely get that one if you stop by here. Overall, the cookies were a hit/miss for me. The staff was friendly and the place is small and cozy though; I went on a Sunday afternoon and there were locals dining in for brunch (they serve other food items here too). Parking was easy for me as some of the stores who share the tiny parking lot were closed at the time; parking might be difficult during the weekday.

We had lunch in IB today following a doctor appointment. I checked the website for Deb's Cookie Jar a few days ago and was pleased to see they would open at 1:00pm as that would be a perfect time to go after lunch. We arrived at Deb's a few minutes after 1:30 and even though the "open" sign wasn't on, I got out of the car and went to the door. Locked. As I was getting back into the car, the shop door opened and a man propped it open, yay! I went in and the man was handing something to a customer (apparently the cookie shop shares the space with a printing business). He glanced at me and I asked about cookies (the shelves were empty). He told me "she" would probably be there at 2:00. I get that some small businesses run them a bit more casually than others but it's just not cool to post hours on their door and online and then not adhere to them. This isn't the first time this has happened...one time I drove from Chula Vista specifically to go here. The others times, I was in IB for other reasons so it wasn't a big deal. If nothing else, why not show your hours as (eg) "1:00ish or 1:00or so." ? Anyway, I officially give up and the one star rating isn't for the cookies, which I've wanted to try for years, but instead is for the unprofessional way this business is run.

I love this place. Deb always makes me feel welcome and takes the time to come out and greet me, no matter how busy she may be. This little family bakery makes the locals feel right at home, and the un-locals feel like they're locals! The cookies are HUGE. I usually get the regular chocolate chip, but today I went for the Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip, and the Blueberry White Chocolate Chip. Oh-My- Gah freakin good. Paired with the hot coffee & creamer, I'm in heaven. As usual, the cookies are fresh, and bursting with flavor- the butter... the blueberries, the dark chocolate, salted caramel ...with the slightly crisp outer cookie, then you bite into the soft middle. Just the right mixture of taste and textures to keep you coming back for more! Yes, I ate both kinds at the same time. I couldn't restrain myself. I originally came for a breakfast bagel this morning. I had the scrambled eggs, bacon, and pepper jack. Very good, and good size portions! Stop in here for your next sugar fix, or breakfast, you will not be disappointed.

Deb is quite possibly the nicest person I've met since moving here to California. I found her shop by accident while driving by one day on the way home. It's in an out of the way place. It's a small unassuming shop. The cookies are absolutely delicious and if you go in and you're wondering which one to try make sure that no matter what you try the one called the dark side. It's absolutely delicious and chocolatey without being too sweet. But even better than the cookies are her cupcakes. I haven't had cake this good in years. It doesn't have that heavy texture that a lot of homemade cakes have and her buttercream is light and I could literally just eat a bowl full of it. She's pretty much the best thing about Imperial Beach so far.

Thank goodness for yelp! I came down to Imperial Beach to visit my parents in their new home and we were looking for food and the search results came up with this place and the high rating and the word "cookie" easily got me interested in checking it out. I was originally looking for a sushi or taco place but wanted to grab cookies before the place closed. After getting a glimpse and a whiff of the cookies and the rest of the menu I wound up staying. I saw the Deb's Massive Monte Cristo and thought "challenge accepted"! Ham, sausage, bacon, eggs, cream cheese, jelly, then more cheese inside two pieces of French toast :: drools :: amazing! I wound up splitting it to make room for the cookies which were also very fresh and delicious they sent well with the iced coffee. Service was fast and friendly and I could tell there were several people that were regulars there. I'll definitely be going back to try some other menu items and cookies!

Such a cute store with a very friendly environment! MUST TRY the almond chocolate chip coconut cookie (which got featured in San Diego's magazine in November 2018) and the white chocolate cranberry!! I'm not a big fan of coconut and cranberry but the cookies was amazing! I also tried the white chocolate butterfinger cookie which is also interesting to try. They gave my friend and I free samples which was nice! We got a dozen and the good sir that helped us gave us two free cookies (: I really admire this business and excited to come back to try the different flavors of cookies.

I don't normally write reviews as i respond as I get paid to respond to reviews infact it had been so long since i had logged in to my personal yelp that i had messages and friend requests that were years old. But the service from Debs was worth the embarrassing sorry it has taken me 3 years to respond. I went in with my mom for breakfast this morning. We had a traditional with has browns. The eggs and hash browns were good, the toast was good. Nothing spectacular. But we will be returning for the amazing service, You don't come to Debs for the breakfast (although I hear the gravy is amazing) its not the draw atleast for me The draw is the home diner feel. Its like the IB version of CHEERS. We will be back. read more

Breakfast is as good as it gets. $5 for most breakfasts and it is filling. Got the French Toast with bacon. The bacon was crispy and THICK. mmmm There was another customer that got the biscuits and gravy. They were big and fluffy and according to her delicious. I may have to get this next time. Just know that it is food to go. Only one little table. I am fine with that, it is a quick stop before I am home and eating on my couch. Her cookies are also amazing! Everyone that I have tried are like grandma's house. Recommended by a local - thank goodness! Deb and her staff are delightful. We went for the biscuits and gravy. It was as good as my own homemade - first time ever! We had a full breakfast and everything was delicious. The cookies are awesome too. We will not forget to come back the next time we are in town. What a treat! read more

I love this little bakery and I'm so glad IB finally has one. I've gone there twice and each I get a dozen cookies... and each time I'm not disappointed. the cookies are huge! Awesome place in Imperial Beach. Found this place through yelp. They have a small dining area inside and a few chairs with shade outside. A few locals were inside just relaxing. The lady that greeted me was very nice. They have a nice menu of sandwiches and breakfast items. I came for the cookies. They have the cookies displayed in the front as you walk in. All were big and cool mix of flavors. You can even order them by the dozen or more by pre-order. They have a rewards type of card for future purchases of cookies. I bought 3 cookies and ice coffee. The cookies are very good and big. I was very happy to find this place. I plan on returning for these cookies and sampling the menu. read more

Super super delicious! Freshly made everyday but the most I like about these cookies is that they aren't too sweet! Try oatmeal raisin, almond choc, peanut butter, etc. everything is so so good. I keep going back with punch card. I also try her breakfast and it is made to order and so fresh and delicious. You need to try! read more

Came here for the first time, the young woman at the register was so kind. I ordered: Iced Coffee, it was amazing! A snickerdoodle cookie, it was okay. As well as a sea salt chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate chip coconut cookie and they were really good, and good size! Ill definetly be coming back. read more

This is IB's hidden gem. My new favorite breakfast spot!! It feels like home inside. The whole staff is super sweet, and go out of their way to make sure you're taken care of. Everything is very reasonably priced!! The food comes in great portion sizes, is good quality and clearly put together with care. Comfort food at its best. And don't even get me started on the cookies, they are out of this world yummy!!! I couldn't recommend this place higher. read more

The best place for homemade cookies. After leaving the beach and wanted some dessert. Found this place and arrived before closing. The staff was nice and didn't rush me out. Awesome place to eat and be! Such beautiful people in IB and I'm lucky enough to say I work there. My sister Deb always goes out of her way to honor her customers. I personally witnessed her gifting breakfast to a customer today that is down on his luck. She has done this countless times. She's always donating to this cause or that cause and is a bright shining star in our community! If you haven't tried Deb's Cookie Jar, please come in and sit a while. I just found this place and I must say that this place is great in quality, price, and customer service. The owner of the bakery welcomed me and was such a please to talk to, very nice man. This place is amazing. The staff is 2nd to none. Had a delicious breakfast biscuit sandwich with egg, sausage and American cheese. It was only 9:30 am and they were pounding out the cookies and k had yo try a chocolate chip to see of the hype was real...and it was! The cookie was super buttery and the chocolate was delicious. I'd recommend coming after 10 if you want more variety to choose from as they only had about 4 flavors at the time. read more

Terrific place. We went for breakfast on day we had to leave Imperial Beach. Wish we had found it sooner!! Nicest group of people you ever want to meet. Lots of local traffic going in and out. Tiny place BUT wonderful. Cookies were just coming out when we were there.....tastebud and sensory overload!!! Rest of baked goods are wonderful as well. Will be a MUST when we visit Imperial Beach!!!! read more

The cake was just okay, it was very dense and a bit dry. The marshmallow frosting was a little thick and the overall flavors were definitely different but not sure I would get this flavor again. I would like to try a few more flavors and maybe a tres leches cake to see how those are. It is located in Chula Vista in a small shopping center, limited parking available.

We went there and he got us a bag of freshly made, hot senorita bread -- basic tear-off bread smeared with butter (and sugar?). We walked back to our car and ate them. Wow. Just wow. Glad I was eating them in the car. I was making all sorts of weird noises devouring these babies. Sooooooooo gooooooood. You gotta get them fresh and hot -- they're really life-changing.

I do recommend that they cove the fronts of the shelves with plastic sheets to discourage flies. They also offer warm bolillos rellenos with a variety of savory eats, not to mention drip coffee as well. The baker is small inside, so it can get a little challenging on busy mornings.

The reason I found out he sold it and retired was because he saw and recognized me walking the pier in IB :D He and his wife were always welcoming, like you were a family member visiting for a snack and a good chat. The place has generous seating available, always clean and never dirty or messy, and is in a prime business lot at the intersection of IB Blvd/Coronado Ave and 13th Street. I've only been back once since the place was sold and I wasn't really into the flavors offered at that time, plus they were no longer offering the maple eclairs. Not sure if they are now, but I'm sure their other donuts are good since they've got good reviews and were in the Reader last year. Go check them out!

I thought this place was closed because I passed by it recently and didn't see it. I must've mistaken the location then, but I'm so glad it is still open according to Yelp! I used to come here about 5 years ago when I would get a coupon in the mail for a free cookie. I would get a free cookie and I would buy another for my mum.
