This place is not much to look at, but they do make some pretty good general doughnuts. I picked up a maple old-fashioned bar and a chocolate one. They were larger than most and were well made. The fam and I were staying with our in-laws down South over the weekend, so when my wifey said for me to buy donuts for the fam, of course I turned to Yelp to find the best donut place. After looking over the ratings and reading some reviews, I decided to visit Freshh Donuts. I'm so glad I found this South Bay gem because the donuts themselves lived up to this establishment's name. Freshh fo sho! For my Yelp friends, Freshh Donuts can be found by exiting off Palm Avenue using the 5 freeway and heading east. It's not too far after you exit off the freeway and can be found on the corner of Palm Avenue and Hollister Street. Fresh is located in a small strip mall with the convenience store 7-11 as its anchor store. It's next to Wah Shing Chinese food, Armando's taco shop, a tatoo shop, a smoke shop, and across from Palm City Liquor and Papa John's. I docked Freshh half a star (4.5 stars all day) because you can't sit down inside to enjoy their sweet goodies as their inside booths are blocked off by yellow caution tape. The inside looks like your run of the mill donut shop. Freshh does not accept debit/credit cards, but it does take cash, Venmo, and to my surprise Zelle. The Asian lady behind the counter was very friendly and she provided really good customer service. Whenever we visited our in-laws and craved donuts, our go to place was Yum Yum Donuts. After my first time experience at Freshh, I believe we now have a new go to donut place. There is a large array of donuts and Freshh is definitely not stingy on the size of their donuts. Just like everything else we purchase nowadays, it appears donuts are not immune to the rise in prices as I paid $28 for two dozen donuts. I made sure to buy a maple glazed cake donut, so that I can compare to a similar donut that I loved at Donut Touch in the North County. Hopefully you'll see the pic of the Freshh Donut doppelgänger and you'll see that my first bite made me real happy because I found the equivalent yummy, tasty, and fresh down South. Freshh's maple glazed cake donut was so good that I had to take a picture of it. Initially, I cut half of a glazed donut to indulge in, but it was so delish that I had to enjoy the other half too. Calories, schmalories because Freshh's donuts were so yummy that depriving myself was out of the question. I'm glad my better half suggested that we buy donuts for our family. Hands down, this is the best donut place I have ever stepped foot in. Its been years since i stepped back in here today and the owner still recognizes me from when I used to come in way back then. The donuts here are exceptionally amazing. One bite and immediately you rethink your choices about other donut places, this place rocks! Their newest edition of a mochi donut is beyond expectations. Their new mochi donut is by far the best thing since a glazed donut, a dense and spongy bite that definitely has that mochi chew. Its a chewy donut but better. Finally I've found a donut shop in San Diego!!! The selection was a little slim and I'm not sure if that's because it was closer to noon when I stopped but the donuts were still delicious and fresh. The cream fillings are not overly sweet and blended nicely with the cake ratio. Same could be said for the jellies. I look forward to stopping here again. I'm totally anti-trendy right now, and all for small hole in the walls, mom&pop shops these days... At least where donuts are concerned. But anyways... Your typical neighborhood donut shop, a bit older looking, but kept clean. Nothing fancy or exotic, just some good classic donuts. Walked in and the lady came out from the back room and greeted me right away. She was energetic and friendly. I decided to get 1/2 dozen donuts, and ended up getting almost all buttermilk donuts (+1 maple bar).. But yea, my all time favorite donut anywhere is the old fashion with chocolate frosting. I love the crinkly top. Buttermilk donuts have the same crinkly top texture. But anyways... I was surprised when the lady put the donuts in a paper bag instead of a box, but they held their shape. Their donuts are a little bigger than your average donut. Very dense too. The bag of 6 was pretty heavy! Haha. So anyways, the buttermilk donuts I got were glazed, maple, and chocolate. The frosting and the glaze is actually a VERY thin layer. Just enough to know that it's there. Didn't flake or fall off either. Same with the chocolate and maple frosting. Just a nice thin layer. I buy bran muffins here. Their muffins are top tier, always: large, fresh & tasty. Bran muffin recipes seem to vary widely. Here they seem to have pulled off the most perfect taste & texture that appeals to me. The owner here, who is clearly engaged with her customers, tells me that the bran muffins are her top selling muffin. They have a huge variety of fresh donuts as well, which I have tried & enjoyed. I came here craving doughnuts. I needed something sweet after having breakfast burritos. It's a couple doors down right next to Armando's taco shop. As we walked in the doughnut shop, I noticed the sign cash only. Luckily I had cash on me. Most of the time, I use my credit card. They sell half a dozen doughnuts for $5.00. Good deal! If you buy a dozen doughnuts, it's around $9.00. The lady working here was super nice and friendly. I picked a chocolate cream filled doughnut and a couple of sprinkle doughnuts for my daughter and a maple one. All so delicious! The inside was clean. There were a few tables to enjoy your doughnuts and drinks. The business shares a small parking lot with other businesses nearby. Get here early as it gets packed in this small parking lot. The lady that owns/works here is Super nice! My 3 year old toddler and I went to visit this place just to check out their doughnuts, and the lady offered to give him 3 doughnut holes without us paying. Immediately thereafter, I decided to buy a doughnut just to taste, and mostly support. Since then, approximately two years ago, we visit on a monthly basis to support this shop. Her offering my child doughnuts for free without asking anything in return spoke volumes. Good karma comes as a few weeks later my brother in law purchased a dozen here, and he told me that he often comes here to buy doughnuts for his employees.
