I really don't like to provide negative reviews but, in this case, it is necessary regarding Deck Guru. After just a few short years the Fiberon boards in the center of my deck are starting to raise up at the ends about 1/4 inch. They were never secured and installed properly. It is now a tripping hazard as they are not flush with the deck surface. I also had deck lights installed and the wires were left exposed to ground critters who have now chewed through the wires. Very poor workmanship throughout this project. I called and emailed several times to discuss all this but never heard a thing. Customer service is non-existent and absolutely unacceptable not responding to a customer concern. Finally had another deck company come out to inspect my deck and they pointed out many flaws in the workmanship and quality of work. Avoid Deck Guru. I will keep this short and sweet. We absolutely love our new deck. Actually, we aren't sure that we could like it any more than we do. We began with a 40 year old deck that was original to our 1980 house. The old deck was literally rotting away, and our home inspector told us that the deck was in horrible/scary condition when we purchased our new home in October of 2019. We had been stressed over spending the money to replace it, but we finally decided we had to get it replaced. We obtained three estimates, and Deck Guru was the estimate we felt the most comfortable with (with cost and expertise). We were insistent that we make the deck as durable as possible so that we Never Ever have to replace it again, and Yegor, our estimate specialist, assured us that our plans with Trex were going to be no problem. We also wanted privacy on two sides and cable railing on the long side (again, Yegor thankfully said no problem). After waiting in the queue for a few reasonable weeks, Deck Guru came out to demolish our old deck. Let me be the first to tell you, our deck is really, really high off of the ground, and I prayed the whole time that no one would fall off of the ladder during demo and construction, and, low and behold, no one did thankfully. The deck was demolished in remarkably fast speed as they finished before noon on the first day (old pictures of the deck during demo are attached). The crew also had to dig out and install new footings/piers (lots and lots of bags of concrete. Wow.). The footings/piers looked Amazing (far more sturdy and "beefy" than our old footings), and we were excited for construction to begin. A couple of days later the real work began. The deck was assembled with speed that was nothing short of amazing. The crew was great at alerting us to any concerns or questions and we always felt taken care of. After a few of days of work, our finished product was ready for us to enjoy. We saw the entire process of the deck being built since we're working from home now, and the crew put in so much hard work and built everything right. The deck is extremely sturdy (you could land a 747 on it we think) and you can tell the crew knew what they were doing. If you need a deck or other remodel project, you should Absolutely give Deck Guru a chance to earn your business. If we could go back in time a few weeks, we would make the same exact decision (but faster) and hire Deck Guru without a moment's hesitation. We spent over $30,000 to have deteriorating deck boards and some support beams removed and replaced. Some were, many weren't. We had to keep calling back and waiting months for appointments. Each time there was an up charge for things that should have been on the original bid. Screws were used that stood above board surfaces. A huge safety concern for bare feet and tripping. .Rotted boards under benches still need replacing. We ended up having to hire another contractor at more expense to reset all the screws and replace some deck boards and support beams that were over looked. One beam underneath a door was left hanging in the air not attached. We would never recommend this company. read more

2 years ago we had Yegor come give us a quote on resurfacing out failing (in spots) composite decking. We had severa spots where the top layer was peeling/flaking away. While it was expensive, I must say that we have been very pleased with the result. It's been 2 years and the resurfacing is holding up very well. We had ideal weather conditions for the work (no rain and warm temps for days between washing and resurfacing and for two weeks after resurfacing). We followed the instructions about not walking on the deck for a full week to the letter. 2 years later, we're still good. read more

We have a very large deck in our backyard here in Seattle. It was a wood deck and was quite weathered. Yegor from Deck Guru came over and took a look at it and he gave us a quote for refinishing it. He also gave us a quote to take out all the wood and replace it with a synthetic Trex deck. We decided to go with the Trex deck, and we are very, very delighted with the results! 12/7 Review: Deck replacement of old 5/4 cedar boards with Azek Vintage. The bid and initial communications went fine. The work was done a few weeks later but there were significant issues with not following the estimated specifications (forgot the fascia clearly indicated on the job quote). In addition, one of the picture frame edge boards was installed crooked . These two issues were fixed about a week after I complained, but since that time (nearly two weeks), I have been trying without success to get them to come pickup the extra boards left from the original job. At this point, they have been in my driveway for over three weeks and I STILL cannot get them removed. You would think they would want the final payment for the project, but apparently not. Perhaps I may need to start charging rent for the storage of the materials. Maybe that might get their attention? 12/8 Update: Finally reached the Deck Guru people. I was told they don't check their primary email (info@deck-guru.com) and that was why no one answered my repeated requests for information. Edit: Deck Guru did improve their communication and their team did a good job once they were out here. I still can't make this a 5-star review due to the poor communication and explanation about the process beforehand detailed below. But, otherwise, the deck looks nice. Quoting with Deck Guru gave me hope that they were a solid company that would stand by their word. The gentleman who came out to provide the quote was knowledgeable and helpful. I was feeling optimistic despite the price being 20-25% higher than their competitors for a deck refinish. Unfortunately, the customer experience from that point forward has been really poor. They took several days to follow-up on the quote and send over the contract. Fine, no big deal. Once the contract was executed I was expecting someone to reach out to discuss sequencing and dates. Nope. I had to call several days later to figure out next steps. Scheduling manager Tyler wasn't in so they told me he'd call me back. A couple more days go by and no one calls, so I reach out again. I get a hold of Tyler and he tells me that power washing will happen sometime in the next couple weeks. Ok....like we can't agree to a date now I guess? Guess not. A couple weeks go by and I hear nothing. So I pick up the phone and check-in. This time I get a date. Great! To their credit, someone comes out on that date and he's a nice guy and he power washes the deck and everything looks OK from a distance. I don't have time to thoroughly review the job and there is a significant communication barrier between us so I let him go. Later I find that there is a ton of debris that hadn't been cleaned up after the power wash. Whatever, I'll clean it up. I just want to get the job moving. A couple days later after hearing nothing from Deck Guru about next steps I call again and ask when they'll be out to finish the deck and replace bad boards. Again, they can't commit to an actual date or even week, but tell me either end of August or early September. At this point, I'm beginning to doubt they want my business. So a few week pass and we're a week into September and I hear nothing. So, again I call (on a Saturday) and I am told the scheduling manager isn't in and he'll call me back on Monday. I get the person on the other end to promise I'll get a callback on o day and he does. Well, Monday comes and goes and nothing from Deck Guru. And so here I am. I've made at least 6 attempts to try to work with Deck Guru and they seem either like the most disinterested or least competent company I've ever tried to work with on a project. The project is still outstanding so perhaps Deck Guru comes through and produces quality work but I have my suspicions given my experience to date. I will review this rating if Deck Guru starts behaving more professionally. As it is, I'm just hoping that I can at least get our 50% deposit back. read more

Avoid these guys like the plague! I attempted to get a bid to replace two decks on my house. Deck Guru made an appointment to come out and do the bid. I called to re-schedule the appointment and they told me they could not do the work. They said; "Based on the notes taken, we've decided we can't do the work". The notes simply indicated I wanted two decks replaced. If they are simply so busy that they can't do more work then they probably shouldn't be sending out flyers and taking appointments only to cancel them 3 days prior! Save yourself the hassle and skip this company when seeking professionals. 7/13/2021: Actually, Jason, your reply below is the 1st time I was informed you don't work on 2nd story decks. You might consider informing the people answering the phone that you don't work on 2nd story decks and avoid scheduling the appointment in the 1st place. The call I received Monday morning was to CONFIRM the appointment on Wednesday. It's a good thing I had a conflict or you would have showed up Wednesday to tell me you can't do the work. After years of putting ceramic pots over holes in my old cedar deck, I finally decided to bite the bullet and go for a whole new backyard including a new deck. After calling many companies for information and quotes, I settled on Deck Guru. Their sales rep Yegor was professional, always available and up front about all their services and prices. Now, Deck Guru wasn't the cheapest option, but in this case I felt like you get what you pay for and boy was I spot on. Once I signed the contract and set the install date, all I had to do was sit back and enjoy the construction of my new deck. Levi, their lead project manager stopped by prior to the build date and looked over the site, asked me if I had any questions or concerns, went over the plans that Yegor and I agreed on and even videoed the site to make sure the install team knew not to damage my blueberry bushes located right next to the deck. On install day, a group of three showed up, introduced themselves and together we walked the project. The team that showed up to actually build the deck were amazing. They demoed the old deck, removed the old wood, removed the old concrete pilings, rebuilt the entire understructure, installed the new deck, railings and two sets of steps in just four days. They were professional, never bothered me during the day and I work from home, which was easy, even with them there. They cleaned up after themselves, asked questions when things were unclear and in the end delivered an exceptional product. Update: We did receive an appology email after their scheduling system sent me a satisfaction survey which I filled out. I'm including the appology which was much appreciated and my response. Poor communication, poor painting, and dangerous smells from chemicals used. The person doing the estimate came by the house and saw my issues with water leaking into the basement from the deck. He did not warn me of strong chemical smells coming off of the product to be used. He did not communicate well with the people doing the work, and the workers just randomly showed up one day. Luckily I was home. After the work was done, the basement was unlivable due to the smell. This is a great concern for people whose bedrooms are in their basements so beware! At least we didn't have to sleep down there and it took a week to air out with fans and doors open. Finally, the paint job from the workers was poor. They had to come back to redo it a couple of times. They get two stars for at least having done the job and willing to return to fix their mistakes. However, they were unapologetic about the smell. I would not recommend or hire them again. read more

They installed 4" bolts in 4"x4" posts. The post are starting to fail. Now this deck was put in May 2020. Some of the railings are warped. They didn't do any nail clean up. I have dogs. I had to go out and clean up the nails as best as I could so the dogs would not get injured. Keep in mind they tore down my old deck and replaced in kind a new deck. So most of the old nails plus any new nails that did not make it into the new deck material were left for my dogs to step on. I have tried over and over again to get them to at least install 6-8 inch bolts to secure the railings. Even replace the warped top part of railings. I called in August and Egor said they were busy but would be out in 4 weeks. Well I waited 4 weeks. Nothing. I call them. Nothing. read more

Deck Guru did get back to me and a worker directly from deck guru came to fix the deck. They had to tear it all out and redo it, but this time they did a better job overall and the deck no longer pools a big puddle of water in the same spot. There is still some small pooling formed on the deck when it rains, and the seams between the plyboards are still visible, so they could've put one or two more coats of urethane waterproofing. I tried to address some remaining issues, but communication just stopped. Perhaps, they assumed I was whining and thought it was better for them to cut it off. In the end, we paid half the project estimate for a service in which I can live with for now, but will have to fix down the line. I raised a star to respect their commitment to come again and try to patch up the work. It's easier to build new than repair sometimes, and possibly my project was more complicated than bargained for. Take this review for what it's worth. read more

We first met Yegor from Deck Guru in April when we were planning a replacement for our 28 year old multi-level deck. Deck Guru was one of three companies that we had bid on our project. Yegor was very professional and his bid was not only competitive but by far the most professional, with everything spelled out exactly as discussed. He was extremely helpful with our design, including a privacy fence, and followed up our meeting with an excellent document including pictures of our current deck and a thorough analysis of our wants and needs. We decided on Deck Guru then had to wait a few months for the TimberTech decking and Trex railings to finally arrive. With the pandemic in full swing, and numerous people across the country wanting to build decks, the wait was inevitable. Once the project got started we met Alex, one of the co-owners, and were equally, if not more, impressed with both his expertise and helpful analysis of our fairly large project. We ended up changing to hard wired lighting in the deck stairs instead of solar lights, which was an excellent decision. Thanks Alex. The overall project took quite a while but that was only because the deck was so large and we kept making change orders to add to the project. Nick and Alex (not the owner) were our deck builders. They did an excellent job, working long hours every day to get the project completed as soon as possible, but making sure that it was done right. The solar caps that Alex (the co-owner) brought out personally for the railing posts at the end of the project topped off our "dream deck." We couldn't be happier with the deck that we ended up with and are so happy that we chose Deck Guru. Professional throughout, great craftsmen, and fun to work with. We highly recommend this company. They never showed up, never called, never answered, no follow ups, NOTHING on the day of the appointment. What a waste of time. They do not honor the 10 year guarantee on their product. I had the product applied in Fall of 2017 and three years later it is peeling off. I had scheduled an appointment for someone to come out and address the problem and they cancelled the appointment via email without an explanation. They have not responded to my requests for an explanation for the cancellation or for the failure of their product. You cannot rely on the company for appropriate customer service or the durability of the product. read more

Have to say I was super pleased with Yegor Ferucci and his Deck-Guru team (specifically Michael his carpenter). They did a phenomenal job restoring our deck. It was in pretty rough shape (to the point where our homeowners insurance was threatening to cancel our policy if it didn't get fixed). They were able to get started only a couple of weeks after their initial estimate. They were able to complete the demo in about a 1/2-day and did the rebuild and restoration in only two days. There were a couple of minor issues with some reinforcement on the steps, but they were able to come out the following day and fix it to our expectations. I rarely write reviews, but the service and quality of Deck Guru and its owner Yegor, gives me pause and I wanted to warn other potential customers: 1. The paint is sold as superior to regular stains and paint. It's not - it doesn't last more than 2.5 to 3 years. You pay a huge premium. 2. Yegor will tell you it comes with 10 year warranty. Most people will fall for it, like I did. 3. The fine print is that the warranty does NOT cover labor, just the material, which is only 35% of the total cost. Beware. 4. When you try to schedule an appointment, they don't respond and once you manage to reach them, it's impossible to get a date scheduled. He will give many excuses as to why they can't give a date. 5. This is a total con job. Do not buy from them. Stay away. read more
