Left: jollof rice with beef Right: ofada rice with ayamase

Got some takeout to go from Deemeta Naija cuisine. I'm very new to Nigerian food (had homemade jollof rice once from a Nigerian friend), so I was excited to try out something new. Jollof rice: nice and flavorful, not very spicy (I had imagined it would be a lot spicier). The beef was very flavorful. I've had this before so it was kind of familiar to me. Ofada rice with ayamase: now this is completely new to me. I have to be honest: the initial impressions were not good: it was STINKY. Had a bite and I was like, this is an acquired taste. Then, gradually, after 5-6 bites, I couldn't stop - it was so good!! If you are familiar with fermented seasonings like fish sauce, this is kind of like that - the umami of the fermented seasoning was amazing. I liked the tripe and beef in the stew, very flavorful, chewier than I'm used to but it's nice and meaty. The folks at the cart were very friendly. Overall, the food was good, but quite pricy (18 for jollof rice and 25 for the ofada rice), and doesn't feel like a complete meal (I had some salad greens on the side to balance it out). That said, it was definitely delicious and I'm looking forward to trying more items here.

Reservation confirmation said, that door opens at 6:30pm and dinner service starts at 7pm. Phew, I'm sometimes bad with predicting the traffic patterns, so that gives you a little cushion. AND I arrived at 6:30pm on the dot. Ha! Plenty of street parking, but I wasn't sure I was in the right place since there was no sign. But, the building's number is clearly marked. So I stepped inside. There was music playing from the back of the building and I just kept moving towards the music. After 2 doorways, my husband remarked it was like we were entering a speakeasy. We stepped into a living room and proceeded through another doorway to find an open kitchen and jaw dropping red alder dining table. Standing in the kitchen was Chef Riley Eckersley and he greeted us like we were old friends. He had a couple of cocktails ready to pour and explained his concept of his place that has only been open for 3 weeks. Imagine an intimate dinner party (6 guests the night I was there) gathering for conversation while being taken on a culinary journey around Oregon. Throughout the evening, every detail was carefully curated, from the ingredients (from the coast to the mountains, he covered every corner), to the plating, music, and drinks (everything from mezcal, sake, orange wine, etc). The whole experience lasts 2 1/2-3 hours and I enjoyed every minute. I will certainly return as the menu changes with the seasons of Oregon. We began the evening as strangers, and ended as close friends.

For 4 people with 4 burgers (comes with salad and 3 pot stickers) and 4 sodas -- it was just over $100. This seems like a lot for a "fast food" type restaurant. The food was good, not great. I got the jalapeño popper burger, I guess I misread as I thought the jalapeño and cream cheese was inside. It was not, there was a large bacon wrapped jalapeño not he top. Otherwise a plain burger. Miss opportunity I thought. The Skippy burger was good -- but some bacon and a spicy sriracha or something would make it better, and less sweet. Chicken burger was good. Don't remember the 4th burger (sorry). I also wish they offered a different green -- they only have arugula which I do not enjoy -- so the salad did nothing for me. Pot stickers were great! Would try again if ever in the area.

The flautas delivered an exceptional crunch with a lot of filling - alongside their lettuce and sauce that just made the dish amazing. The guacamole tostada was to die for. Their beverage service seems to be a bit of a cluster as people wanted something while waiting so went to the bar inside which they initially served people but then they started telling people you couldn't order there so would need to wait in the hourish line again for something (ie if you wanted something after ordering your food or like a modelo cause they moved them all from the inside bar to the outside). Probably had the worst tasting Hazy ipa ever from their interior bar as they would only allow cans for the exterior after saying they wouldn't serve the exterior people (much of what they said didnt make much sense and seemed like they just couldnt handle doing that many orders although the interior was only a couple patrons). Took about 30 min to get food. They say they sell out but seems like they just put up the sign and post that on ig once the line length will take them to closing (ie about an hour to hour half line from 8pm). Foods good but seems poorly managed creating waits and wasn't really that busy compared to other places of similar menus.

We were in Portland visiting my cousin for the weekend and we wanted to grab a quick light dinner…read moresince we had a super heavy lunch around 3pm. My cousin mentioned this place and we were hesitant to try it. He said they had great reviews and was in New York Times, but we were still hesitant to try it because we didn't care much for Pizza- nor were we craving it. It was me, my 15-year-old daughter, my brother, my sister in-law and my cousin. We were greeted but the most friendliest staff I've ever encountered IN MY LIFE. You order and pay at the counter and find a seat. They have an area where you can get your own waters as well. We ordered the Pho Pizza, Banh Mi Pizza, and the Chicken Satay Pizza. I wanted to order the Pandamn ice cream but they ran out as well as their tiramisu desserts. In my head I wanted to take away 1 star but then I tried the pizza. Pho - 10/10 First bite and I could NOT stop smiling. It was SOOO good! This was the groups favorite. My brother doesn't even like sprouts but it worked very well with the pizza. It was like eating pho but on bread. OMG my mouth is salivating just thinking about it and I can't even get it now because I'm in the Bay Area. Banh Mi - 100/10 This was my personal favorite. It was basically like an open Banh Mi with a hint of pizza. The flavors were amazing and I loved the pickled daikon and carrots on top! I'm not sure if refreshing would be the right world, but I know amazing would be another way I would describe this. I live in San Jose and I go to San Francisco often so I'm actually pretty disappointed in the Bay Area for not having anything like this. Satay Pizza - 9/10 To be honest, we were already getting full but because it tasted so good, we finished this one too. The sauce was a creamy curry sauce (I think with a hint of coconut) and had some peanuts sprinkled on top which gave it more flavor and a nice texture. Lastly, the pizza crust tasted AMAZING. It had a slight crisp to it but it was fluffy in the inside, kind of like Mochi bread. We literally left no crumbs! 1000/10 would recommend this place!

Since I'm from SE, I will definitely be coming here when I find myself at the Reser!

Immaculate atmosphere and the exact sort of thing we were looking for for breakfast. We didn't get her name but saw on the receipt her name might have been Davi, she was such a bundle of light and life, so attentive and kind! She immediately gave us wonderful recommendations which we all adored. The table ordered praline bacon to share (do yourself a favor and get this), one ordered the praline bacon waffle, another ordered the bananas foster waffle, and I got the seasonal vegetable hash. We were all in HEAVEN with what we ordered. From the first bite to the last it we were all absolutely stunned by how delicious and well made everything was. I savored every bite as did my compatriots. One gal ordered a couple things to go for her family (huevos rancheros for the hubby and cinnamon rolls for her kiddos) and our waitress Davi recommended they bring out the cinnamon rolls unfired so that she could pop them in the oven when she got home after a short drive. It was such good attention to detail that felt like such a friendly offer. Absolute superstars, the lot of you. Next time I'm back in Portland I'm absolutely spoiling some friends here with what I can only describe as a transcendent experience.

As i approached the building, I noticed that it was full of people. I fell into the street. I was in and out of consciousness. My heart was racing at the thought that I drove 15 hours and could not get a seat at SCREEN DOOR. As I walked into the building a humble man greeted me. He told me that they would clean off a table for me. WOO HOO. I bursted out crying at the thought that I finally got my seat. As I sat down a soft chair graced my bottom. Beautiful. I looked around and the scenery was beautiful. As I looked at the menu, my eyes sharply turned to the chicken and waffles. Deliciously perfect choice. I ordered my food and got a coffee. My chicken and waffles arrived and I took a bite. I started floating. My soul left my body. I looked down at my body as I floating away, I was enjoying every bite. I reached the heavens. A loud voice said "Its not your time yet. Return and enjoy the rest of your meal." I ascend back to the chair and every chicken and every waffle was gone. The servers were SO kind. I got my check and shead a tear, knowing that was the best meal of my life. Over all from kind servers to and delicious food, SCREEN DOOR was an awesome experience. Upon walking in, I was expecting flowers on the table and at the least a fully inflated balloon. Walked into a booth with a half inflated balloon and no flowers. Unfortunately, one of the executive chefs had left for an emergency which I understand. This left my wife and I unable to experience about half the menu. We ordered our appetizer and entrees at the same time, appetizer came out rather quickly which is expected as it was just bread and tomatoes. Although the entrees never made it out. We were given complimentary bread and tomato soup and a drink on the house for the long wait. Tons of delays because of one of the chefs not being present but over an hour and a half for entrees is crazy. Although our waitress was kind and accommodating, we decided that instead of wasting our time, we decided we would just pay for whatever we received. The waitress let us know that they waived everything and we left without a bill. Very disappointing but as it was our first impression, I'm hoping that it was just a rough night for them. No management came to our table with any kind of updates or apology. The waitress that helped us is the one getting praise.
