Made a reservation with a birthday experience package for May 9, was elated to walk in and experience dining here for the first time but was incredibly disappointed. Upon walking in, I was expecting flowers on the table and at the least a fully inflated balloon. Walked into a booth with a half inflated balloon and no flowers. Unfortunately, one of the executive chefs had left for an emergency which I understand. This left my wife and I unable to experience about half the menu. We ordered our appetizer and entrees at the same time, appetizer came out rather quickly which is expected as it was just bread and tomatoes. Although the entrees never made it out. We were given complimentary bread and tomato soup and a drink on the house for the long wait. Tons of delays because of one of the chefs not being present but over an hour and a half for entrees is crazy. Although our waitress was kind and accommodating, we decided that instead of wasting our time, we decided we would just pay for whatever we received. The waitress let us know that they waived everything and we left without a bill. Very disappointing but as it was our first impression, I'm hoping that it was just a rough night for them. My partner and I celebrated my birthday at Brooklyn Trattoria, and the entire experience was absolutely lovely from start to finish. We made a reservation in advance, and they went above and beyond by setting up a cozy booth for us, complete with a birthday card and fresh rose petals--such a thoughtful touch that instantly made the evening feel special. The service was fantastic throughout. The staff was warm, attentive, and timed everything beautifully. Our drinks came quickly, and the appetizers were served with just the right pause before the entrees arrived. We started with calamari and focaccia bread. The calamari was a standout--it came with a delicious dipping sauce and was paired with fried green olives and peppers that added a unique and flavorful twist. We loved it. The focaccia was fresh and satisfying as well. (I wish they served balsamic with the bread but that's my only feedback) For entrees, I had the breaded parmesan sole, which was served over a creamy butternut squash orzo--absolutely delicious and a perfect match for the seafood. My partner had the halibut piccata and opted to substitute the asparagus for brussels sprouts. The brussels were crispy, flavorful, and so good that we instantly regretted not ordering them as an appetizer! We also enjoyed some excellent cocktails--balanced, well-made, and tasty. For the quality of food, service, and ambiance, the price felt very reasonable. Two appetizers, two entrees, and two drinks came to around $120. To top off the night, the staff surprised us with a complimentary chocolate mousse for dessert to celebrate my birthday, which was a sweet and generous gesture. The owner, David, was present and welcoming. It's clear he truly cares about creating a great experience for his guests. After dinner, we checked out The Red Room, a cozy speakeasy-style cocktail lounge next door, also owned by David. The vibe was low-lit and intimate. The bartender there was friendly and crafted a beautiful, delicious drink for us. It's a great spot to unwind after dinner or to visit on its own. We didn't end up ordering dessert, but the tiramisu caught our eye and seems to be a crowd favorite--next time, for sure! We have finally found "our" Italian restaurant on the west side near our house. We moved to the Hillsboro area a few months go, and have searched for the kind of food and service that we experienced at Brooklyn Trattoria last night. The only challenge I saw was the status of the booth seats. They need to be repaired. We started with two excellent cocktails, the Central Park Smash and David's Old Fashioned. Then we had a terrific Bruschetta. It was so good. The flavors were perfect. Then we split the Mediterranean salad and it was very good, and I am glad we shared it. For our main courses, my wife had the Penne Alla Vodka, minus the sausage and it was excellent. I had the Veal Piccata and it was incredible. The linguini served with it was cooked perfectly also. We finished with the Cannoli. While it was good...we will try the Tiramisu next time. Jemma, who was amazing, stated the Tiramisu was outstanding. Jemma has been at Brooklyn for some time, and she is so skilled at her profession, and yet quite engaging, friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. David, the owner stopped by our table as we were finishing our visit. I really appreciated his approach as I noticed he visited many tables; he would wait until the guests experience was concluding. I recently celebrated my birthday here. First visit. Four of us had the lamb osso bucco and one had the halibut piccata. The entrees were delicious as was the chopped blue salad and cocktails! We went on a double date for Valentines Day. Originally selected this restaurant because they were one of the few that at first glance wasn't limiting their menu. However a couple days before I received a text message of a limited menu that we weren't excited about. At the point it was too late to get a reservation at another restaurant. Costumer service was excellent! The food however was not. I didn't eat heavy all day just so I would be able to enjoy this meal. Halibut Piccata: The Halibut was overcooked. It would have been perfect otherwise. The Caper sauce over the Mashed Potatoes was the best thing out of everything we ordered. So delicious. Asparagus couldn't have been anymore overcooked. Absolutely hate overcooked Asparagus, ruins the vegetable. Parpadelle Bolognese: Bland! It was the first full meal I had all day so I ate it anyway but it was the equivalent of Chef Boyardee's canned lasagna. Lovers special: Filet Migon, no flavor but nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't help. Lobster, no complaints. Mashed potatoes, well they were mashed potatoes. The Asparagus didn't come out at first and when we asked he said it didn't come with it. However the menu that was on the table and sent to us said otherwise. He took the menu and brought out Overcooked Asparagus. We were so underwhelmed by the food that we passed on dessert. The signature drinks were excellent! All in I think the limited menu hurt them. Don't let the strip mall location fool you. This place is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. . .sexy light fixtures with just the right amount of illumination, romantic banquets, a sharp looking bar, and subtle NYC references. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and professional, with a special shout out to our server Nudy!!! She has the perfect balance of professional and friendly, and we were glad that she's still working weekends despite getting a Monday through Friday daytime job. She went out of her way to make our first visit extra-special. The food is absolutely fantastic, everything from the fluffy focaccia bread to my husband's steak (which came with the best mashed potatoes he's ever had) to my delicious penne a la vodka with Italian sausage. I was thrilled to see they carry one of my favorite Italian desserts, Affogato. I usually have it with Frangelico, but they serve it with Bailey's, which was a fun twist. There was too much goodness for the mug, and it got a bit messy. The only minus for us was the menu being accessible via a QR code. Our server Erick worked the room with ease and his interactions with his tables meet each diner's needs perfectly. I love the layout of the room. It is not huge but never feels crowded. The low light is perfect without being to dark to read a menu. The owner works the room and meets with each table more than once during the evening to ensure that nothing i amiss. Our table was set up with Prosecco and rose petals, they put us in a corner so it felt very romantic. I love chicken piccata so I ordered that. The only thing I can say is I wish there was a tad more lemon in the sauce and a bit more salt, but it was still really good. WILL NOT BE RETURNING. I'm still tasting Vienna sausage type canned meat flavor from their meatball appetizer and lasagna entree. Also tried the lamb osso buco which lacked depth and the flavor you expect with a shank of that variety. Was somehow bland and dry at the same time, but the chef must know this since they served it with a separate and equally bland au jus on the side. I have personally never needed or seen that done before. Service also left lots to be desired. From the moment we walked in, everyone we interacted with seemed to not communicate with each other at all. We dealt with several people but had to wait for the manger to make his rounds after our entrees were delivered in order to get a single refill on Diet Coke for my fiancé, another margarita, or the entree wine I discussed with Jemma when ordering. Would have spent more money on drinks for sure, but they didn't even check on us until much too late. Specifically loved how I could hear Jemma casually hanging out at the bar talking with people and yawning loudly while we sat there waiting for an offer for more drinks or a simple check in on the quality of our meal. Manager comped my wine since it was half way through our entrees late (He didn't ask about the food since he probably knows), but Jemma made us feel like an afterthought when there was no wait and lots of tables open on a Friday night. From the moment we stepped through the door, we felt we had stepped into a portal to another city. We couldn't believe a restaurant with this great ambience existed out in Bethany/Hillsboro. We have been to some amazing restaurants around the world, and this one truly impressed us. Celebrating my husband's birthday, I wanted to try something new and fun. Our pre-ordered half-bottle of Tattinger Champagne awaited us at our table when we arrived. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and we both agreed it was one of the best we had ever had. What set it apart was the fried olives and sun dried tomatoes tossed with the calamari....on point! We each had a cocktail, Dave's Old Fashioned and the Smoked Maple Walnut Manhattan. Both excellent drinks! For our main course I went with the Filet topped with Blue Cheese and my husband had the Lamb Osso Bucco. Both amazing dishes that had us wanting more. These were paired with a beautiful half-bottle of Alexander Valley Cab. Towards the end of our night they brought out a chocolate mousse for the birthday boy and the owner Dave came over to introduce himself. Thankfully this restaurant is close to home as we will undoubtedly be bellying up to the bar more frequently and looking forward to their new "Red Room" whiskey bar opening soon. Bravo! read more

The fact that the place was packed 10 minutes after opening seemed to be a good sign. Veal in the menu seemed like a great sign. Alas. We started with meatballs. The sauce was jar-like and the balls themselves were bland. The lasagna was pretty good (other than the sauce). Veal piccata was pretty good. The waitress told us they could do veal parmigiana instead of chicken. It, too, was solid except for the sauce. Desserts were flat out nasty. Tiramisu had a gritty feel to it (and Hirshey syrup FFS). Cannoli also bad. As in take the gun, leave the cannoli. Or shoot the cannoli. The servers were attentive and friendly, though the girl, who claimed to be from Jersey actually said the desserts were good. She should know better. The kid who brought the dinner to the table referred to the veal parm as the chicken parm but with veal. Know how often servers at real Italian restaurants sat that? Seriously, why is it so hard find decent Italian food? Wanted to love it but couldn't even like it. read more
