This is one of those restaurants that I really want to like. They are by the water in the beautiful sassafras river and they are so nice. Always attentive, great service. Dinner: while we enjoy the atmosphere and service, the food is less than perfect, specially for the price. Our entrees were ok, lamb osso bucco was dry, like made the day before. Our sides were inconsistent, the risotto was dry and overcooked, not creamy, like yesterday's risotto reheated. The Brussels sprouts were actually really good. My wife had the truffle Mac and cheese and it was overcooked as well and looked reheated. Brunch: the brunch was great, again good service, the food was delicious, the potatoes were amazing. The only problem for me was the menu states a 3 egg omelette, and it was hardly 1 and 1/2 egg. Not a huge problem, I don't need 3 eggs, but maybe adjust the menu to reflect that. read more

We went here yesterday afternoon. It was beautiful on the deck. There was a large crowd so we expected to wait for our food. I ordered lobster tail and my friend ordered crab cake. After about an hour the food arrived. The crab cake was not cooked and sent back. My lobster tail was hard as a rock. It was not cut for ease of removal. I requested the normal butter for dipping ( in case I figured out how to get the lobster out of the shell). You will not believe this because I didn't. The butter arrived....a chunk of hard butter in a cup! Yep...that was the last straw. We talked to the manager and left. Oh...the large group of people next to us left also. They waited over an hour for food. It's a shame. The place is beautiful. They need a chef. read more

Deep Blue catered my wifes 80th birthday party. They did an outstanding job. Everyone raved about the food, and dealing with there catering group was easy and effortless. We were a small group - 12 , but everything they about the experience was positive. I would defiinitely recommend to anyone looking to host a dinner party, large or small. read more

Tried Kitty Knight restaurant for the first time over the weekend. The ambiance was great. The food was good contributing to my three star review. I must say however that I have never received worse service at a restaurant. We were seated and no one came by for a half hour at which point we had to locate the hostess. The manager stopped by and apologized and so we thought that would have been the solution. However, our food then took quite a long time to arrive. Once it finally did arrive, they didn't provide any silverware for my husband to eat his steak with. We waited. And waited. While his food got cold. We finally went to the bar to get a fork. No apologies given. Really ruined our evening. Maybe this was some sort of isolated incident. But beware, If your looking for a worthwhile night out this may not be the place. read more

Our server was great. The decor change inside is nice. The atmosphere and location is what makes this place. The food unfortunately was not. The rockfish with crab meat tasted like it had been cooked in a microwave. I sent it back and it came out better but still subpar. I've eaten a lot of rockfish to know this is not how it should be served. The crab meat was also mildly fishy and it should never taste like that. Might be back for a burger but this is not one of our picks for fine dining any longer. Pretty disappointed. read more

For my birthday, my fiancée brought me here upon recommendation from a friend. We were very pleased with the view as we sat on the deck and overall ambience. However, I ordered the Lobster Mac and at $24, I expected a decent meal. I was very disappointed to realize that my large plate of pasta was simply that - cheese and pasta. I had to scour the plate to find lobster bits and I simply found four small pieces. My fiancée had apparently also requested a birthday dessert but all that arrived was the check. We were really hoping for a better experience and found it to be a but disappointing. The staff and space was nice but I would not recommend dining here. read more

We were in the area today at a local winery and decided to give this place a try for an early dinner. Beautiful views, but unfortunately poor service and very mediocre food. The deliciously described Gouda Burger that was ordered Med Rare came out broke in two princes and Med Well- it had absolutely no flavor. Crab dip was watery, it was just okay. We asked the waitress when we sat down for two checks, one per couple, but just received one at the end. We really wanted to like it and have a new spot near the water, but other than the views, this place is a thumbs down. read more

Good was not very good. I ordered crab imperial and it came like mashed crab with Old Bay. Sent it back. Tried the crab cake. Same thing, mashed crab. Yuck. Service was slow. We have never had a bad meal or experience when dining outside or ordering for pickup. The heat and serve thanksgiving dinner did not disappoint. This was the first thanksgiving my husband and I have spent by ourselves and the option of picking up the delicious dinner was great. The food was delicious and the service great. read more

Wifey and I decided to give the Kitty a try while being fully aware permanent kitchen was not yet in operation. We ordered brisket tacos off the Special menu thinking this would be a safe bet. Tacos were filled with micro fillings worthy of a gnat's feast. Even the sauce barely filled the bottom of cup. Drinks are apparently the main source of income during this "start-up" phase, and way overpriced for this rural venue. Seems like ownership group will need to do a creative reboot for this venture. Bottom line: this is a food truck experiment gone awry with Fine Dining prices. Not for us and we won't be back anytime soon. read more

Had a reservation for 6:30pm and was seated on the deck so we could watch the sunset. We waited until 7:00 pm, when we left because no one came to our table for drink orders or anything for that matter. We flagged down a number of servers/busboys to get a server to no avail. Went to the Fishwhistle and had a great meal. We may or may not go back. While waiting for a server, we looked at the menu and was not impressed. For a restaurant in MD, & on the water, the seafood we had was very disappointing! The setting is beautiful but that was the best part of our dinner. Crab dip was on the pricey side, and had little taste except for the Old Bay it was covered in. My husband thought it tasted fishy. Peel & eat shrimp was served cold with cocktail sauce. Went with friends for a beautiful Saturday night out. The new management and ownership is a joke and need a major overhaul. Looks like the owner:manager (from what I overheard) her talking to a man looked like she had a few too many adult beverages and did not act very professional. Very nice surprise. We sat outside on the deck, service a bit slow but the wait was worth it. Tuna ceviche was excellent. Ample serving and very well done. My rib eye was cooked medium rare perfect and the Demi glacé and mashed were very good. Wife had the crab cake and risotto which she liked. Kitty Knight was one of my favorite restaurants. Recently it changed hands and got a new chef and is calling itself Deep Blue. I've been there twice and both times have been disappointed. They took a great menu and overhauled it by replacing many of the most popular dishes. The menu has less options and unfortunately the food just not as good as before. I recently brought guest to the Deep Blue and one of them left their entire meal because it tasted terrible. So sad to see this restaurant make a such great turn around from a couple years ago and now it is going in the wrong direction. read more

The location is beautiful. Some of the food was quite tasty. The surly manager ensured we will not be going back. We have been to Kitty Knight several times last summer and enjoyed it. Our first trip this year was terrible. We won't be going back. Took far too long for our drinks, which came out in two trips because the waitress tried to combine two tables orders, neither of which got all their drinks in one trip - can't help but wonder who was responsible for training this poor kid. The real show stopper was when our appetizers and main courses arrived at the same time. Did I mention that the tables are too small to accommodate both? Not complaining about the table size because at any decent restaurant the apps come out 15-30 minutes before the mains. Now back to our friendly manager.... I asked to speak to the manager thinking I would let her know the kitchen needed some help with their timing. She arrived at our table in a foul mood, I'm guessing she hit choppy air and the broomstick was uncomfortable. When I told her the mains came out on top of the apps she said, "So, what am I supposed to do about that?" She did graciously offer to take the main courses off the table and bring them back later (when they would be good and cold) but we declined. It is a shame when a decent chef is sabotaged by such terrible management. If you follow Kitty Knight online, I would recommend waiting until they post something about new management before going there. read more

Bottom line - Thoroughly disappointed and well overpriced. My family used to eat (and drink) here in the 1970s and I thought it would be fun to re-visit 30+ years later. The Inn and Restaurant have been well maintained and heavily renovated, and it is beautiful. However, the Inn now does weddings (they seemed to be hosting 2 at once the night we were there.) My wife and I ordered the filet and crab special, (medium and medium-well, respectively), yet both filets came out the same color - brown. I sent mine back (for almost $30, I wasn't doing to eat ruined meat). When it came out the second time, it was purple. The third time, it came out the right color, but I am certain they simply threw it in the microwave. My son got the kids cheeseburger - it came on a 5" roll, but the burger was 2" in diameter tops. The staff was very friendly, but overmatched - With 2 weddings going on, it was clear that they were not concerned with the restaurant in the tavern. In turn, we wound up waiting for everything - from drinks to rolls to meals. Unfortunately, I guess nothing lives up to the memories, but truthfully, the food they offered should have. After a long few hours of raking leaves at my friends cabin on the bay we went here for dinner. Very warm and inviting dining room....fireplace going, Xmas tree lit and beautifully decorated. Most people were dressed up more than us, but we didn't care and were perfectly comforable in what we were in (jeans, boots etc....lol) I had fish and chips and it was very good and warmed me bones. Service was prompt and attentive and very polite. I didn't pay so not sure what the bill for us 3 was, but I'm thinking it was a little on the upscale price range. The Kitty Knight House is always a safe choice for me. The food is always solid, the wait staff is extremely friendly and the environment is very peaceful. They've recently revamped the place so I don't know if they still do the buffet but, if so, I wouldn't recommend it. Stick to the menu. The bisque is good, much thinner than Bakers but not too thin. The salads are a lunch selection. read more

A beautiful location for a restaurant and bed and breakfast. Right on the river and overlooking a marina. It is the perfect place for a day trip from Baltimore. About an hour and a half straight up Route 40 or #95. The rooms are decorated very nice and if you visit their website you will see the prices are very reasonable. You can see every room and select the one appropriate for you. Try and get the one with the balcony. Supposedly the room Kitty stayed in is haunted! The staff is very helpful. It is a small staff and sometimes you play some telephone tag but they always get back to you in a timely fashion. The next morning the homemade breakfast buffet was delicious. There was a spinach, crab casserole that sent me back for seconds. There was also fresh fruit, bacon, rolls, and everyone found something they liked to eat. You are given a coupon and you just present it to the waitress. It was not crowded so we got plenty of attention. Since it was a weekend we had to book for Friday and Sat. We went into Chesapeake City and had a blast at Canal Days. There are a lot of places to shop and eat. The Inn also has a swimming pool which was very nice. It was not crowded and the kids had a blast. There is a little ice cream shop there too and of course everyone had to have one of those. The restaurant has trimmed its menu and so it concentrates on some house specialties which are tasty. The service was good and there is an outside patio to eat. At night on the weekends there is a band playing and the outdoor bar kept the drinks coming. If you are looking for a romantic get away this inn is a nice idea. I hope to get back there someday. read more

This is not a good place to stay. I had 3 rooms here for overflow guests and they were not happy with their stay. Just 2 thin towels in the room - no wash cloths, no hand towels. No cups. No one on site to ask about these once you check in. Entrance is poorly marked and lighted for late arrivals. We will not be using it again. read more

This is truly the finest of food, most sincere of service and cozy of atmospheres on the River. What a WONDERFUL ADDITION TO THE SHORE!! Our food was delicious from the first bite of bourbon wings appetizer to the last bite of pumpkin cheesecake. Our table of 6 oohed and ah'ed each bite along the way and toasted to Chef Ruth to never leave. A remarkable dinner and surely one will return to over and over and over again. Absolutely awful. If I could give 0 stars I would. Upon arrival, they had lost out reservation, and then blamed it on us. We asked for the manager, and the "manager" was 15. Not only that, we didn't even get greeted by a waitress until a half hour after waiting. Not even an "I'm sorry" was said. The waitress came to our terrible a solid 2 times the whole night, and it was hardly busy. Our food took an hour to arrive, and it was nearly terrible. We had a 7:30 reservation and did not end up leaving until 10. We will never return here, and I recommend everyone else doing the same. Not to mention, the burger tasted like fish. The margarita pizza was drowning in sauce. The steak salad had 4 small pieces of steak. And the crab dip tasted like half and half and made me ill. read more

We stopped in for brunch and had the best French toast of our lives! Please make sure some one in your party gets the creme brûlée French toast. My husband wanted to order a second serving it was so good. I wanted to get the short rib hash but due to a mushroom allergy I couldn't. My only disappointment was it was mixed together in prep so they couldn't do it with out. The ambience and staff are lovely.
