My wife had been looking for a good stylist since she moved to Austin 2 years ago. She had several bad experiences because she happens to have a lot of wavy hair, making something as simple as a blowout (I'm told it's simple, I don't have enough hair to understand) an endless chore with disappointing results. With her birthday coming up, I wanted to spoil her and looked for a good place nearby. Deep Roots was close and new, and had few, but great reviews. I saw the photos and visited the website, where they have the bio of every stylist along with pictures of their styling. This made a huge difference and I noticed everyone has significant education and experience. Fine, I thought, it may be pricy (it wasn't, I just didn't know), but it's her birthday and it's the least I can do. I made an appointment for her with Neilani and today surprised her when I told her! The place is gorgeous, very serene and modern, and they immediately offered us refreshments and a very comfortable seat. We arrived on time to the appointment and Neilani was already waiting for her. Her experience was pretty epic. Neilani was super chill and could perfectly understand what she wanted. It put my wife at ease, as that tended to be the problem in the past. She said Neilani was easy going and made her feel very comfortable. The end result? "One of the best cuts I've had", "Youthful", "Modern", "Amazing". Not only that, but they charged us a lot less than I expected (I don't post prices because everyone's hair is different and reviews age. I can tell you that their website lists approximate prices and we paid less than advertised). So, my wife had a fantastic experience, I paid quite a bit less than I (resignedly) expected, and she looks absolutely beautiful! She says she now feels Austin is even more of a home, thanks to the magic powers of Deep Roots to lift up her spirits and give her an amazing confidence boost. Disappointed. First time going here and really don't like my hair. I was scheduled with the same stylist for a CUT and balayage. The stylist literally seemed like she had never cut hair in her life. She kept dropping the shears and my cut is so uneven... & we cut 5 inches off. I then later see on Instagram that she doesn't even cut hair! Then the balayage... it's so orange and splotchy!! Paid almost $300 and so disappointed. Literally wear my hair in a ponytail everyday until it grows out. Already booked with another salon for an all over color to cover this up. My appointment was at 1pm. I arrived on time to wait 30 minutes because the stylist was curling another clients hair. I was only there to hair my hair cut and was told to come with clean and smooth hair. Which I did but I was still charged $100 for a basic cut and no styling. Previous appointment my hair was washed and styled for not much more and I don't know why this was not offered. When you call to make an appointment the phone goes to voicemail. I've only gotten my haircut twice, one with Allison and the second time with Meg. I did really love how Allison cut my hair but unfortunately she was unavailable when I needed to get my second haircut. So I was put with a new hairstylist name Meg based off availability. I wouldn't normally be writing yelp reviews I would normally just take my issue to the salon and ask that they fix it or at least ask that the hairdresser be trained and I don't mind letting her try again, but I did and no one got back to me. I was very unhappy with my experience with Meg and also a little hesitant because I looked her up on Instagram through Deep Roots's official Instagram. I did see that she was a newer hairstylist and that she was a part of their apprenticeship program to be a colorist. The main two things that I had an issue with was left shampoo in my hair after washing it- my scalp and behind my ears the next day were extremely itchy. The last thing was I asked for a soft and blunt cut and when she put the two face framing pieces in the front and the rest of the hair in the back to cut she didn't make sure to match the front and the back to the same length so now my hair looks like a lob. The two front pieces are a lot longer than the rest of the hair. The sad thing is is that I called the salon on Tuesday around lunchtime and asked to speak to one of the managers about scheduling a time for me to come in and get my hair fixed, nobody answered so I had to leave a voicemail.Then I called later in the afternoon because I still didn't hear anything from them and wanted to make sure they got my voicemail and the girl at the front desk said that the managers were busy and didn't have time to talk to me, but that they would get back to me by the end of the day. I'm now leaving this review Thursday morning with no response back from anyone from Deep Roots at Cedar Park. At this point eighty dollar for a haircut that's worse then when I came in seems like a joke and I'm sorry I wasted my money to a company who doesn't feel the need to follow up with their clientele when they make mistakes. Update: After the voice message was discovered a week later, Collin reached out to me to apologize and offer for me to come back to the salon to fix it. Since I hadn't received a response till yesterday I already went to get my hair fixed by a stylist from a new salon. We have come to an agreement of financial compensation and while I don't think I will come back, I will retract the previous statement that they don't care about their clientele. I appreciate her reaching out to apologize and asking for more information for future education. read more
