First time trying this bakery and man it did not disappoint! The shop smells like a sugar cookie candle (perfect for a bake shop). They have multiple flavors of cakes, cupcakes and cookies. We decided on a classic vanilla "leftover" cake that was one day past Halloween. The sprinkles didn't scream Halloween, so it was perfect for my grandmas 90th birthday because she LOVES sprinkles! It was 50% off and man this cake tasted like a $100 cake! You can tell this was made with Fresh and real ingredients! The icing was my FAVORITE! It had a smooth bite to it! And the cake, Y'all it was sooo moist! It was a large round 2 layer cake. We had tons of leftovers for 6 people. Served with birthday cake ice cream and my grandmother LOVED it! I really wanted to enjoy my treats from here but sadly I thought they were really disappointing. :( I came in about two weekends ago while on vacation with my in-laws in the area. This small shop is located in a large shopping center next to a grocery store I was unfamiliar with (Rouse's, if I remember correctly). Thankfully, that makes parking pretty easy. The inside is simple but cute, and very clean. The one girl working that day sort of looked at me like I'd grown three heads when I came in and didn't offer any assistance, but warmed up when I chatted her up while checking out. She was quite nice once we spoke to each other but the lack of hello or can I help you after looking right at me in an otherwise-empty shop was kinda weird. I selected two cake slices: a caramel cake slice and an oreo chocolate cake slice. I was somewhat tempted by the German chocolate cake but couldn't discern any coconut or pecan pieces in the frosting. Maybe it was a more literal /german/ chocolate cake, rather than the chocolate cake with pecan and coconut frosting named after Sam German? I usually assume the latter in average US bakeries but who can say. The lady at the register informed me the cake slices were BOGO that day, so the price was right! Though I can't help but wonder if the fact they were BOGO reflected some kind of decline in quality or an older cake slice, because sadly I didn't really enjoy either cake. I will admit I delayed a day or two between buying my slices and sharing them with my husband, so perhaps that contributed to the deterioration of it. At any rate, the Oreo chocolate cake was very dry. The icing had kind of separated from the cake and had crystallized into a crunchy, saccharine strip. My husband wouldn't even finish his half of the piece. The caramel cake was better, a tiny bit more moist with slightly less "crackly" icing. Still not my favorite -- a little on the dense side, and still fairly dry. Again, perhaps this experience was partially on me for delaying a day or so in eating my treats, but I dunno. Perhaps cupcakes are the way to go instead? I'm not sure. I'm sad I didn't have a super positive experience, but I like the concept of this business and I wish them success! read more

This place is near the Rouses in Orange Beach. We wanted to get a cake for an anniversary and heard this place had decent cakes you can simply pick up without ordering in advance. The smell in this place is what you'd expect a cakery to smell like, such good smells when you walk in. The cashier gave us a rundown of all the flavors, and options to buy (cupcakes, small/large cakes). We decided to give the strawberry cake a try, as we wanted to commit to one flavor (but we did buy a single caramel cupcake, which was good). It was a tad too sweet for us, but certainly willing to try another flavor next time. We actually did want to try another cake but went on a Monday (closed on Sundays and Mondays). Luckily Rouses was next door and their cakes are actually pretty good as well. read more

Have to say some of the best cupcakes we have ever had as a group. They are known for Carmel but we liked the strawberry best. We also tried lemon and birthday cake and all just as good as the other flavors. We also tried cake slices and next time in the area I will be buying a cake for the week. Only 12 of 16 cupcakes delivered---when I called they were rude about it...they didn't bring me my additional cupcakes nor refund me the $20. This place meets all standards to good baked goods!! Over 40 years I've been praised highly by many friends & strangers on my baked goods, these cakes are as good as home baked, fresh from the oven. They are moist & flavorful as they should be. If u love to bake but don't have time, I highly recommend this place!! We tried their cupcakes this summer in hopes of using Deep South for our wedding cake. We even spoke with the owner/baker about making our cake and cupcakes. We were assured they'd be open (we're getting married on Dec. 27th) and to just contact them 2 weeks prior. Well now it's two weeks prior and she's decided to be closed that week and the next. If you want to find the best caramel cake and chocolate cake in the South, look no further. These cakes have the real, cooked on the stove icing that is a lost art. These truly are grandma's recipes because I bought these cakes from Shannon's grandmother 30 years ago in Mississippi and have been getting them since. The red velvet and carrot cake are to die for too. They freeze and travel beautifully. They carry all the cakes in cupcakes too if you can't make a decision. Me?
