I frequent the convenience center in Kodak and couldn't help but notice a huge sign advertising Jim's Automotive. I called Jim and he stated that he did that type of work (I've always supported local small business) so I booked the job with him. Now please understand that I am ASE CERTIFIED Technician with 40yrs experience. I booked this job with Jim as I am new to the area and do not have a lift available to me to do this job. The work was done on 5-1-26 On 5-26-26 my truck suddenly began to shake at high speeds and shudder at low speeds. This is text book tell tail sign of a torque converter pump fins falling apart. Upon speaking with (what I would imagine) be Jim's service writer it was confirmed to me that they used a remanufactured torque converter. These used parts have a 30% failure rate. From 2017 thru 2022 I was the Mgr of A Oreilly Auto Parts store 5227 in Miami Florida and never recommended any reman part to a professional shop due to their failure rate, this being a starter, alternator, a/c compressor and least off all a torque converter. The difference in price is minimal but the quality is monumental. Shame on me for not seeing any ASE signage and not following what I preach. Only allow fellow ASE Certified technicians work on my vehicles. Jim gave me a total BS story that what I was feeling was a misfire from the motor. He stated the the torque converter showed no sign of failure and would not be honoring the warranty. This is typical shade tree mechanic excuse. Do not recommend this place for any type of serious work. If you need any type of serious work done on your vehicle go to Ricks in downtown Sevierville.

Finally, the owner of shop #3 referred me to Wolf Tire & Muffler. I am SO glad he did. I explained I was from out of state, traveling home, and could they fix it soon. They made a call, I presume to check on parts, and said "Sure, bring it in and we'll take care of it!" I was there a short time later. They were so nice and accommodating. Shortly after the part was delivered they got right to it, fixed it, and charged me a very fair price considering I was done and driving away (smiling) just 2 hours after arriving. These are good people who really know their stuff. Recommended!

Spent $2,000 fixing oil leak & replacing a power steering pump in a Camry we just bought in April this year which apparently already had multiple oil leaks when bought it. We were told the motor was good in the Camry & that it was worth fixing. Took Camry back in October because there was a terrible noise in the motor. We were told the 3 rd piston blew a rod & broke it and that it fell in the oil pan. He says there was no way for him to know that when he was fixing it that the motor was damaged ( " & was caused by running completely out of oil more than twice .?). Wanted to charge $6,000 more plus to put in another motor after we were told the other motor was good before spending already $2,000 on fixing it. Or we could sell it to him for $300. We had a Toyota Prius in the past which was involved in a collision with a deer jumping in front of the car as we were driving towards White Pine. Said they could fix the Prius good as new for $2,700 or little more can't remember. But after we got the prius back from this same shop, we took it back 6 months later and was told " the motor burned the oil out of it & needs. New motor ". It was also a 2008 model. They were asking $3,000 to replace the motor in the Hybrid Toyota, but the value on it was about $2,500. He offered us $500 to buy the prius & so we did sell that one to Murray's but we decided to keep the Camry this time

My first instinct was to find a Firestone because it was familiar, but something told me to look for a local mechanic instead. That's how I found Rick's. Even though they were absolutely slammed that morning, the staff welcomed me as a walk-in. The lady at the front desk quickly found someone--who I believe was Rick himself--to take my car for a test drive. When he returned, he asked me to give him a few minutes to find an open lift. About twenty minutes later, they had diagnosed the problem, made a minor adjustment to the subframe, and had me safely back on the road. While I was waiting, I couldn't help but notice how the service advisors treated their customers, especially several elderly folks who came in. They were patient, respectful, and took the time to explain everything clearly. That kind of customer service has become all too rare, and it created an atmosphere that immediately put people at ease. What impressed me most wasn't just that they fixed my car. It was that, despite being incredibly busy, they were willing to stop what they were doing to help a stranded traveler they had never met. That says a lot about the character of this business. I'm truly grateful for Rick's. If they were in my hometown, they'd have my business for life.
