There happened to be one open seat at the bar, which is my favorite place to dine when traveling. The bartender was friendly, easy to talk with, and clearly knew both the menu and the craft behind the bar. One thing that stood out right away was their use of fresh local ingredients, which really shows up in the flavor of the dishes and drinks. I started with the Golden Manhattan, made with a pecan-infused bourbon that was fantastic. It had a rich, slightly nutty flavor with warm vanilla notes and just the right touch of sweetness. Smooth, balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. Alongside that I ordered the chorizo clam chowder, which brought a creamy base with just the right amount of spice from the chorizo. Comfort food with a little personality. For dinner I switched gears and ordered the Creole Sour. This one really stood out. Bright citrus up front, a smooth bourbon backbone, and a subtle spice note that tied perfectly into the Creole theme. It had that classic sour balance, tart, slightly sweet, and refreshing without overpowering the drink. Dinner was the gumbo with hot bread and butter, and it delivered. The Crispy Pork Belly with the housemade mustard was delicious - the mustard has a great kick to it. The Trout with crispy capers, green beans, and hazelnuts was very tasty. Would get that again, for sure. The sliders were good...I'm not sure $5/each good...but good. Crème Brûlée was excellent. And they make the best Piña Colada I've had in a long time. I'd give 3.5 stars if I could, because that pork chop was soooooooo disappointing, but 4 it is. Everything else was tasty. I'll come back, but not go anywhere near that pork chop.

The restaurants ambiance has a soft, intimate feel to it, but neither the chairs nor tables have the element of class one would expect. In fact, the perimeter of the seating area has wooden benches which make sitting comfortably relative to the table a trick. Meanwhile, the actual chairs reminded me more of modern living room chairs as opposed to dining chairs. As for the food, we found the two main courses rather tasty:one being a steak kabob and the other a lamb kabob. I have had the lamb kabob on another occasion and both times it was cooked so the lamb was juicy and tender: rather delicious. However, the lamb kabob only came with one skewer of meat. On the other hand, the wagyu beef kabob was very tasty in it's own right and this was two skewers worth. I had trouble squaring that discrepancy in my head - so be it. As an appetizer, we shared the calamari dish. I am used to large plates of breaded, fried calamari cooked to perfection from my days eating at Italian restaurants in New York. This appetizer came in a small cup, which appeared to be an 8 ounce size (the cup was fancy and black, consistent with the image they are trying to project). The calamari dish was good, but not anything special. Thus, without considering that this restaurant markets itself as, a high end , gourmet restaurant, I would rate the food portion of the review a 4 star. However, that must be adjusted to reflect the food preparation relative to marketed expectation and that knocks it down to a marginal 4, at best, probably a 3 in my book. The real killer was the service. I will say it was both pleasant and polite. However, this is the type of restaurant that is marketed to appeal to the romantic dinner crowd with high end expectations: the professionalism of the service fell far short. To begin with, the host and waitress sat us at a table directly next to another couple. Note that I had made a reservation for 7. When we arrived there were only three tables occupied. However, we were sat directly next to another couple even though we could have been sat another two tables away for far greater privacy and a more romantic experience. Then the waitress exhibited zero personality throughout the evening. In addition, she came over while we were still eating our main courses and asked if we wanted the dessert menus, even though the restaurant would be open for another hour. All in all, I feel that the server was a nice person, but was obviously not very experienced and added nothing to the experience - not what one expects in a place that is marketing itself as upscale. I had a restaurant business and used slow times as an opportunity to observe and teach. I noticed nobody making such an effort in a situation that called for it: a big oversight and lost opportunity for three parties: the server because they are not being assited to grow, the patron because the service impacts the consumers overall quality of the experience and the owner for the obvious reason that it impacts business long-term. I call it the win-win-win formula and this restaurant would benefit from applying this concept to training the wait staff so they are at the patrons expectation level. In summary, if this were a casual restaurant I would rate it a 3, but because of how the business is slotting itself into the market with it's pricing, portion sizes, ambiance and menu presentation - I believe it only merits a 2 star review in that particular market segment. I do not believe you will be disappointed with the overall experience, but neither time have I left their feeling wowed, and both times I left feeling that the experience did not meet the expectation for the cost nor for the intimate, romantic feel they want to project as providing

Pupuseria Del Valle operates out of a food truck in Common Fields. Unlike some of the other food trucks there, you order directly at the food truck's window. After ordering, you receive a restaurant pager, so you can sit down and wait for your food. The wait time is usually between 10-15 minutes. I'd never gotten a chance to try a pupusa (only gorditas, which are somewhat similar) before eating them here. I'm so glad I tried them for the first time at Pupuseria Del Valle, because they are now one of my favorite foods!

It had just the right amount of tang. The food was quite filling and I had to take a box to go. By the way, this is a food card with a secure location in a small food truck area located south of downtown, within walking distance of many shops. The two staff working were kind but there was some mild confusion when I placed the order, which was compensated for by them promptly making a correction to the order.

My wife and I recently dined here for our anniversary. It was our first time at Del Alma, and it happened to be a Wednesday, so they were offering their "3 Course Wednesdays Special," which is a very nice treat, because they rotate menu items often (I looked up the menu online to find the dishes my wife and I had, but they had already update the menu with some new selections). The tiered seating gave us a nice, raised view of the restaurant floor, and the atmosphere feels classy and elegant. Our server wasn't rude, but she also wasn't engaging, and did little more than take an order and drop off food/drinks. No conversation, no recommendations, no discussion of good drinks or menu items. Service definitely lends something to the overall experience, so in this area, the venue is a bit lacking. My wife and I both selected the Bacon Guacamole (delicious!). I had Beef & Chorizo Tacos, while my wife had the Cochinita Pibil (Yucatan style barbecue pulled pork). Very classy presentation, and felt like upscale dining at a family-dining price (largely due to the 3 Course special). The meat had a delicious, smoky flavor. Also, my drink, which contained grilled pineapple puree, had a smoldering, smoky taste - off-putting at first, but after the first couple sips, really rather good. The Key Lime pie is highly recommended for dessert. I loved the toasted coconut, and the candied lime peel was a unique and tasty touch. My wife's dessert, however, was subpar. The Cafe con Leche contained a salted caramel that tasted like it had been left in the fireplace. Very, very smoky flavor. It would have been nice it it had been a light caramel drizzle, but the dessert was drowning in a thick layer of smoky sauce. The flavor was overpowering. There was no need for the smoky flavor, in my opinion. Let caramel be caramel. All in all, the mind behind the flavors seems very partial to infusing the flavor of smoke. In most instances it seems to work, but in the dessert it was overkill. Definitely interested in going back and trying other menu items when we're in the Corvallis area. read more

We had dined in Del Alma before, a few times. We had been told by a previous server there was an addition next door named Dulce Del Alma, their dessert wine bar. It was Saturday night we had come to visit for some tapas and dessert. We were relaxed as soon as we had entered the space. The decor was inviting and cozy and the women was friendly. First we had two of the tapas. The Albondigas and the Salmon tacos. Both were excellent! will definitely be getting the Albondigas again! But the main reason I am writing this is because of dessert. My friend ordered the guava cheesecake which looked very modern and elegant. It was also VERY delicious. The shortbread cookie underneath was the perfect thickness and texture it needed. The cake its self was a nice "light" surprise. Too many cheesecakes are heavy and dense. The foam was also an interesting but nice addition. I had the Poached Pear and WOW! It looked devine! tasted amazing! Also very clean and elegant. The pear was poached perfectly with subtle flavors of cinnamon, vanilla and the brandy. The white chocolate almond sauce was rich and balanced, which blended so well with the saltiness of the almonds and sweetness of the honey. The ginger ice cream was SO good. Not to in your face as ginger can be. There was also some fresh raspberry on the plate which was nice for color and also a tangy aspect. The dessert chef has a very good understanding of the ingredients he used. Both desserts were fabulous. We also had the chance to talk to the dessert chef a bit as he made it right in front of us! He was very nice and very humble. He joked a bit and said he still needed to change an esthetic issue with the pear dish. We told him not to change a thing! He Smiled. We also learned that he had not been creating desserts for too long, which was hard to believe given the quality of what we received. 2017 New Years Eve celebration dinner with family and friends but with wet pants. My husband, friends, and mother had a dinner reservation at Del Alma's New Years Eve celebration. Don't get me wrong the food was excellent. I have eaten at this establishment plenty of times and I would highly recommend the food. What was unfortunate about this evening, as it was spent for me in wet pants due to the waitress spilling an entire class of ice tea on my lap. It was truly a mistake on her part and she was very apologetic, which I appreciated. Once the meal had concluded myself and my party had thought because of this mistake some kind of compensation would have been initiated. The only compensation I received was the cost of the ice tea deducted from my bill and the Del Alma staff providing me with small dish towels to place on my chair and lap to help soak up the liquid. My party and I were a little surprised by this form of compensation. Perhaps I should have said something to the manager and/or the waitress, but due to the type of business establishment Del Alma is, I would have thought I wouldn't have to make a big deal about it. I was not expecting every ordered item to be compensated on my bill, as that wouldn't have been fair; however, I would have thought Del Alma would have credited my bill with a percentage reduction (besides just the ice tea) or some other pertinent customer, we want you to come back, form of a gesture. The two stars is not in regards to the food, but for the customer service and how the Del Alma staff handled the situation. read more

There are plenty of things I was noticing as I looked at the same area of the restaurant again and again. Lots of interesting touches that made it more pub/homey (if that makes any sense). It's definitely a smaller restaurant so come during off hours or I think they might allow for reservations. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. A bit of a limited menu but not putting that against them, as long as the food is good it doesn't matter. Got the pickled eggs and pretzel for the appetizer. The pretzel was standard but the sweet mustard sauce was amazing. Pickled eggs were different but it was the first time I tried them and I'm glad that I did. Give them a try. For mains got the shepherd's pie, sausage and mash, and the firehouse chili. Would recommend the shepherd's pie, the firehouse chili was not my personal favorite sort of chili but it does seem like other reviews liked it, so give it a shot and form your own opinion. I liked the sausage but the mash not so much, more grainy than smooth. If you take nothing else from my review, get the sticky toffee pudding. Very indulgent especially after a heavy meal but it was quickly polished off. Overall, decent food with some gems. Definitely a lot of character to it, and unique for the area.

This is the second year in a row that myself and my family have celebrated my birthday at Royal Bar and Grill. I have one piece of criticism. The mozzarella sticks were just a tad overcooked. Two of them were totally hollow and the cheese was cooked out of them. Other than that everything looked great including my sister's steak which was something they had tonight which wasn't on the menu. I already can't wait until next year. We will definitely be back. We showed up in stages but the bartender must have been having a bad day he would get one drink order at a time is what my peeps told me, I thought they were joking. We ordered 2 Bloody Marys and one didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it so we mixed the 2 together. The food came out real slow and kind of haphazardly. I will say the hummus was good. The menu is American and Indian so I was excited. Some people's burgers were way over done and after the food all came out, I was informed they were all out of Dahl Makhani Which was disappointing. So I asked for Chana masala and after a while they came and told me that they were out of that too, so I settled for a black and blue burger with tots. My burger came and thankfully it wasn't overdone and it came with fries. Now the last 2 at the table are still waiting for their burgers none too happy. As I finish my Bloody Mary I notice a 1 1/2 inch crack in my glass which I take up to the bartender and let him know, he didn't say anything. Now in the meantime 2 people at the table are saying the chicken Caesar wrap they ordered didn't taste right and opened it up to find what looked like curried chicken chunks that were rinsed off inside the wrap. A while later I order to Kona's for my friend and I, a while later he comes over to tell me they are out of Kona, so I order 2 different beers, and as I am getting down to the end of my beer there's a shard of glass. I take this up to the bars and tell the guy and show him letting him know I think I swallowed a piece and they better check the dishwasher or something. He throws the shard of glass in the garbage and walks away. The kicker 3 of us had bad stomach aches the next day. I don't know what's going on but I would avoid this place

Inside the very cute bar they offer pool and darts, outside there are wood chairs and benches and even corn hole that you can play for free. The homemade sauces are a must try, and every food item that we have ordered has been so delicious with flavor packed into every bite. The kindness shown by the actual owner of the establishment is something that i have never experienced before. The bartender Jennifer was so kind and helpful with any questions that we had, even letting us try things before ordering. It really is an unbeatable experience and we will definitely be coming back :))
