But I have to wonder how long it would take to actually get glasses if they have no appointments. And I was surprised when I went in person there this morning. They had 1 client waiting but I guess they don't take new people easily? Or maybe they think being over booked makes them look good ? It doesn't ! It makes me think they're difficult to work with. I actually had a terrible experience, I've been having trouble seeing and came for help to hopefully get contacts or some answers to why my eyes are hurting. I was apparently the last appointment of the day at 5pm (which I did not choose, this is what the front desk offered me when I called for availability) so I took it. From the moment I walked in everything was so rushed and the doctor was so rude. He was rushing me and kept telling me they were closing and it was apparently my fault for making the last appointment when I am a first time contact wearer. First of all feeling offended that he's saying it's my fault and obviously how was I supposed to know this... He proceeded to go on with my appointment rushing me through the tests just to tell me my prescription is the same but gave me 2 different answers about my glasses that I've never had before saying they were for the wrong prescription, which cant be right since I've had multiple doctors tell me otherwise. I didn't even get to practice reading the lines on the screen to test my vision, he then proceeded to rush me into contact fittings which was so stressful I wanted to cry., I have never put them in before so the feeling of him telling me they are rushed but that it has to be done today was a terrible experience. I even offered to come back another time or take them home with me and he said no. Proceeding to push me onto one of his assistants for fitting while they continued to close the office. By the time I got the contacts in I didn't even have a moment to look around and try them out before they told me to take them out because they were in a hurry, so I did all that for nothing. Just for them to then try to sell me on $1000 worth of contacts before leaving where I literally laughed at the audacity. I ended up leaving with no contacts, lots of stress, no answers and no change in prescription but $300 lost for a wasted office visit. Nice office, friendly people and Dr Nankas was great. They seemed pretty thorough with all the tests and questions. Some of the tests were initiated by the office personnel. My vision isn't bad but now it's great. I can see women across the room now and with my new contacts I can see right through their clothes. j/k. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that is seemed a more expensive than other places. read more

This is my first ever review of a company. I felt it necessary. I had seen Dr. Kobayashi for several years and I had always been happy with the medical attention, details and outcome with glasses and contact lens prescriptions. However, in 2020 paying for vision insurance OOP to get the benefit of insurance I had a terrible experience with the Marina Del Rey office. After seeing Dr. Kobayashi first, I ordered glasses and contacts. This was a combination of prescriptions for reading, distance, progressive + computer glasses. I purchased glasses which were not right and I could not see distance. Because I wanted extra glasses and contracts, I took the prescriptions to Costco and bought glasses and contacts. When I picked up the glasses and contacts - the vision was off. Sadly, I blamed the tech at Costco but, it was the prescription. Marina Del Rey Optometry was great in insisting I come back for a second exam by a different doctor, Dr. Rinaldi (spelling?) After the exam, he said "I don't know where Dr. Kobayashi got her numbers but, they are different from mine". I proceeded to purchase glasses - 2 pair and 90-days of progressive contacts and 90-days of computer contacts. But again, the prescriptions were wrong. I sent an email to Ali asking questions about the prescriptions but, I did not get a return email. I left a message and never heard back. I had spent a ton of money and a ton of time and I had been locked into paying for insurance (VSP) at $57/mo plus what I had paid out of pocket plus what the insurance paid. All that out of pocket money and insurance claim money to them and no contacts or glasses that worked. Now, five months later, I have switched to a new doctor. After the exam and prescription process my prescriptions are completely different and I have glasses and prescriptions that work for me. Also, the new doctor compared the prescriptions from 2019 from Marina Del Rey Optometry to the 2021 prescription form Marina Del Rey Optometry and found that the new readings from the new doctors are closer to the 2019 prescriptions and doesn't understand how they got my prescription numbers. The point is, I am out a lot of money and I am disgusted that I had gone through so much stress and anxiety thinking there was something terribly wrong with me. Now I have prescriptions that work for me and I would not recommend Marina Del Rey Optometry. This was very distressing to write and post but, I felt it was important. read more

I had to find a new optometrist when the optometry office I had been going to no longer accepted my insurance. A friend recommended Marina Del Rey Optometry to me. So far I am very happy with both the doctor (Dr. Kobayashi) and the staff. The exam was thorough and the doctor spent time patiently answering all my questions. read more

I scheduled an appointment for an annual eye exam. Scheduling online was so easy and efficient. When I arrived, the staff was fantastic and made it a pain free experience. My eye doctor was Kris Kobayashi and she was amazing. Very friendly and super knowledgeable. It was an amazing experience. I would highly recommend! read more

I was sooooooooo pleasantly surprised at how great the staff and the Doctors are. I needed to take my 5 year old because his eye was very irritated . I called my insurance and got a list of Optometrists in my area, I was prepared to call and get hassled for an appointment and instead I got a very friendly gal that got me right in that same day! When I got to the office it was so beautiful. Dr. Phan and Dr. Kobayashi where outstanding. I highly recommend this optometry for adults and children . VERY HAPPY WITH THEM. read more

This place has advanced equipment and highly trained doctors who really care. Oscar who did my eyeglass fitting was so nice and so patient! Admittedly I take forever picking up frames. Always such friendly staff and I never have any problems. They are thorough and always ask questions, and make sure I am comfortable. When ordering contacts or choosing glasses there is never any pressure, the staff honestly want you to pick something you like never try to push you towards more expensive options. I have a great update for my previous review. I got a text that my glasses were ready, but was busy so I just picked them up today and it's unbelievable how they work. It's my very first time getting prescription glasses and I didn't think I needed them but sure enough, they provide a crisper image of my computer monitor. I'm so surprised that I needed them. I got an eye exam from one optometrist at a different office who said I would benefit from a slight correction of my vision from glasses, but I didn't like his quick approach of in for exam, and out for a pair of glasses so I came to Marina Del Rey Optometry for a second opinion and Dr. J (you can see all my praise in my previous review) checked the prescription that I brought in from the previous doctor and was not negative or judgemental but did mention that it was a bit too much of a prescription for what I needed. She was right! The prescription she gave me is perfect. Only when I take off my new pair of glasses do I notice a slight blur in text on my computer. I never would have known. Thank you MDR Opt and Dr. J for your attentiveness. You guys are amazing, the whole team. I just wanted to update my review that my new glasses, that I was nervous about, are spot on! *SCAMMY PLACE* Avoid this place at all costs. My husband went in for his eye exam on Friday morning and was charged an additional $75 or they wouldn't give him his contact prescription. What's the point of him doing his annual exam if the Doctor then refuses to give him his contact prescription?? SO SO SO SHADY! don't go there. Go down the street to Dr. Hetch (310) 577-6600. There is a reason you have to book with him in advance! We waited last minute and were stuck going to this place. big mistake. read more

the staff are very professional and nice, they always have done a good job for me, Dr. Nankas really gets you what you need. If he sees something during the exam that needs extra attention he sends you to get it done. He will not give you a RX just to make you spend the $$ on eyewear, he wants to make sure everything is good before prescribing anything to you. My last visit was with Dr, Kobayashi, who is GREAT!! I love her, she explained every step she was doing. Made sure I understood what the tests read and gave me options with my vision results. I love the ladies and the assistance they give me. My husband have tried other places but always return even with the eyewear being so expensive we will always remain patients to them. I would "highly" refer them to this office.!! read more

I downloaded the yelp app and am writing a review just for this establishment. The eye doctor was nice and seemed knowledgeable; however, I waited over an hour to be seen. Costco eye care exams are usually in and out within 30 minutes. This was a 2 hour ordeal. Additionally, the staff misinformed me of my eye care benefits and I drove in rush hour to order new glasses because my insurance is expiring only to be told that glasses weren't covered. The staff simply apologized in an insincere way and I had to walk out lest I completely lost my temper. If you have a lot of spare time and want to research your eye care plan, this would be a good fit. For someone who doesn't have a lot of time to waste and doesn't have patience for employees not giving correct information, you'd be better off going elsewhere. I found them through my insurance site. I mentioned Costco before; that's probably the best place for an eye exam. For glasses go to Warby Parker. read more

So I posted the below review about my experience here, and I have to say they definitely took care of me. The entire staff at Marina Del Rey Optometry rolled out the red carpet and made this situation right. I scheduled a new appointment to ensure that I would get the right prescription for me. They even refunded me for the lenses that caused me a huge headache, and assured me that their staff will alert other customers in the future about the distortion of these particular lenses. I really appreciate that they made this situation right. I have new glasses that I'm still getting used to, and even if I can't get used to them, I have the peace of mind that Marina Del Rey Optometry will have my back. read more

I had been a patient for years,even before they changed ownership. I loved the doctor and the original office staff. Great lady. Sadly my experience this week was so rude and negligent that I will never go back or send anyone else I know there. I had made an appointment a year ahead at my previous exam. It was for 10 am. I have the card. My elderly mom was having a problem and the office said "Sure, just come in 15 minutes early." I was grateful since my mom has dementia and can't wait long. I informed the lady of this several times to no avail. After 45 minutes and no sign of any help from the office, I had to leave. The lady said, Do what you have to." No help or compassion at all. She tried to tell my husband I was a walk in. HA HA HA!!!!! She lied about that and the time of my appointment. I do blame Dr. Nankas because he should be aware of the time and keeping people waiting. {especially in a bad situation}. Luckily I got my mom in to see a doctor in Culver City and I go to a new doctor tomorrow. Please think twice before investing your time and money here. read more

Not only did they take FOREVER to get our glasses (like close to a month), their billing is ridiculous! We went over a year ago and they kept sending us a bill. We called several times and gave them our insurance information. Instead of going through our insurance, they sent it to collections! We have GREAT insurance that covers everything but yet they can't be bothered to bill properly? In addition, the older office manager is incredibly rude and uncooperative. Steer clear of this place. You're better off at Lenscrafters in the mall instead of this overpriced, incompetent place. read more

All I can say is WOW. Customer service is alive and well in Marina del Rey! My Dr. was first rate, which was a comfort to me as I hadn't had my eyes check in awhile (2009). I'm in my 40s, and this is the first time I've been faced with having to wear glasses other than to read. CAROL the optician Is AMAZING! She took her time with me, helping me find just the right frames for my face. She answered all of my questions, carefully measured my frames, and explained how the type of lenses I need actually work in layman's terms. If you want a quality experience with professionals who really care, go see Carol and the staff at Del Rey. Did I pay more than I would have if I went to Costco? Yes, and it was worth every penny! I know I had a top rate exam and that my new glasses are going to be great. Honestly, I could not have been more satisfied. read more

Stopped by here this past weekend to get tested since they had a certain machine at this location. Everyone was very nice. The office is really clean and large and they have a great selection of glasses. There is lots of free parking in the lot which they share with a variety of other shops and restaurants. I was very comfortable here and see myself coming back. read more

My wife has been coming since 1995 (when Dr. Nankas was there) and I've been since 2004 and have visited Dr. Nankas, Kobayashi, Fann & Glass. Always great, always courteous, always easy to deal with. Will take all the time in the world with you - OR let you get on your way ASAP. My wife has complicated prescription with her contacts and glasses, mine is not so complicated but I do have some early onset cataracts and glaucoma (they set me up with a specialist @ Cedars and alleviated all fears) Even since we moved from the Marina we still drive back from the Valley for all our needs. Always available on Saturdays (and frequently Sundays!) There's never been a reason to look anywhere else. Simply the best. read more
