I came here on the recommendation of a friend and had a great experience. My appointment was right on time, and the staff was super sweet and helpful. I also really appreciated getting email and text alert reminders for my appointment. Dr. Sung was great! I had a babysitter bail last minute, so I had to bring my 4 month old who was a bit fussy, and she was super sweet about it! I'm sure it was not the ideal way to conduct an eye exam, but she rolled with it, never made me feel rushed or like the little one was an inconvenience, and did a very through job of explaining everything to me. Long time customer and yet they still exceed expectations. Had a rough go with my first progressive lenses. I probably didn't pay close enough attention to the test window. Regardless, I called and the team at Del Rey answered. Dr. Lin saw me to review my prescription and Carol seamlessly, at least to me, handled the negotiations with the manufacturer and insurance so there was no cost for the replacement lenses. Suffice it to say, I am a fan of my new lenses thanks to the team at Del Rey Optical. Carol explained that I might want a pair of single vision lens glasses for reading only. It has been a surprise finding from our retired OD (forced us to find a new one) and insurance suggestion, we have been lucky to find and examined by OD J Sung. She is a young, well trained and through OD that one may ask for. I planned for a biannual examination for new reading glass BUT ... Myself was considered in an early normal pressure (age related) glaucoma by a well known Ophthalmologist in Macula, Retina and Vitreous. After an eyelid surgery to increase my upper vision fields by another MD, I have engaged in aggressive improvements but continued to be considered having glaucoma. I was examined/monitored by a second OP prof. from #1 eye hospital, who consider I shall not have Glaucoma and suggested to stop eye drops for a period of time for my next examination. Wonder between these specialists, I planned a 3RD opinion with another well known OP professor. While in waiting, God sends me to Dr. Sung whose examination are same as these OPs but more care, patience and through. She suspected my L vision field might not correct, so I had a second one immediately. A few days later, I received her "detailed summary" to my other OPs. That summary turns out is THE most through one from my experience in the past few years and suggested other concerns that is new to my knowledge (very fortunate). When you visit Dr. Sung, her training and care beyond most of us in expectation. I immediate explain and refer friends to her and expected a stream of further refers going to follow. read more

I chose Dr. Sung because she has expertise in glaucoma, which I am at high risk for. She performed various tests and thoroughly explained the results. She answered all my questions. I actually learned a lot from her! I will continue to see her to monitor the situation. Also, I brought my teen son here for contacts and eyeglasses. We had a problem with the eyeglasses, one lens seemed underpowered. Dr. Sung and staff were very pleasant and professional about it. They re-tested and reordered the lens free of charge. I had expected them to be a bit defensive, but they were simply awesome. I just wish they would carry a bigger selection of "Asian Fit" frames, like TC Charton. I had to go to Koreatown to get cute plastic frames that fit and were in my budget. I liked my son's Ray Bans, but he did NOT want me to wear the same glasses as him! ha ha! read more

I've lived in Playa for 13 years and I finally stopped by a few weeks ago when I decided to switch optometrists. I wish I switched years ago! I've been wearing glasses for over 20 years and always felt self-conscious with them because I have a small face and I could never find a frame that I loved. Then I met Marisol at Del Rey Optometry. She spent hours with me finding a frame that would fit my face. I was also debating if I should get new sunglasses and clear glasses, but my insurance would only cover one this year. She clearly laid out all my options and never tried to upsell me. She also transferred all my insurance and medical records from my previous office. The service has really gone down the tubes. Both the Playa del Rey and Marina locations have been very disappointing when it comes to customer service. They don't communicate! In November 2016, after I checked-in, I waited 50 minutes in the waiting area and not a single employee acknowledged or apologized for the long wait. Fast forward to Jan 2017, when my eyeglasses did not arrive after 3 weeks, I called the office, only to be informed the frames were on "back order". They're still waiting for the frames,then the glasses will be sent out to get the lenses. REALLY? Almost 2 months to get eyeglasses?? The optician never mentioned "back order" when the order was placed.No one in the office bothered to call. They have a culture of not giving value to their clients' time. There are many choices for optometry services --- go elsewhere where your business will be valued. read more

This place puts money over patient well being. I have a problem with eyelashes. I went for treatment and paid my $59.00. I called a couple of days later to tell them I was still experiencing the same problem and that the treatment needed to be checked . First thing out was "we have to charge you again". I was pretty much a regular patient until then. "They have to charge me again for something they didn't do right the first time". Forget it -I don't want to fight about this and I don't need to go to a place that is all about money and charges with mistakes. So I went to my Ophthalomologist and sure enough difficult lashes were removed and problem gone. Oh yes and if you go to the new Marina location be prepared to pay a premium because it's in the Marina. I had to pay more for an office visit there . Never going back here again. read more

My husband and I went in to check out what kind of glasses they offer. The lady at the front told us she will be right with us and we let her know we are just looking at their glasses selection. She came to help us but seemed very stuck up and was not hyped that we were trying on glasses. She made us feel like we had to rush to select glasses. They have a good selection so why would we rush into choosing glasses? After a few minutes of standing by us and making us feel awkward she left to do something else and sent someone else to help us once we were done selecting glasses. We ended up not buying glasses here and will not return. read more

I had been in denial about needing glasses but decided it was time to get my eyes checked out. They were open Saturday which was great for my schedule, and conveniently located, but I was pleased to discover the office staff and doctor were friendly and helpful with what was a new experience for me. They helped me select frames and gave me an option of ordering contacts in the future.
