Overall a basic Del Taco with upgraded exterior & interior styling. But with all the basic combo meals & options. Interior was "clean-ish," but that was probably just a quick sweep every 3-4 hours. The food took awhile to get (drive through was quicker) but was hot & good tasting, and packaged as expected. We've passed so many of these places on our long road trip. We finally happened upon one while we were ready for a meal. We ordered at the kiosk but had staff offer to help us, which was nice, because they were busy. We ordered one burrito each, plus shared an order of beans and an order of guacamole and churros. Turned out that the burritos were huge! Much larger than expected. All the food was so good and we left after more of a main meal than just a snack. The whole thing cost us a little over 20.00, because we had our own water as beverage. The place is very clean and bright and the staff is very friendly and helpful. My family and I stopped by Del Taco on our way out of Joshua Tree and was pleasantly surprised by our experience. Going to a fast food restaurant, one could agree that expectations would be fairly low overall. This restaurant is emblematic of the issues that come up when you have employees processing orders on a screen and don't bother to talk customer to understand how the restaurant scewed up an order. I placed an online order for pickup about an hour later. A few minutes after I placed the order, I got a text message saying my order was ready for pickup. That was about 1 hour early. I called the store twice, letting the phone ring 10-20 times each time. No one bothered to answer the phone, so I drove to the store. At the store, the first person I talked to (headset lady) barely listened to what I said before she walked to the pickup area, grabbed my order and threw it out. She then told a cook to make my order all over again. It was still no where near 5 pm. I stood there waving my arms to try to talk to someone again. Another lady walked up, talked to me for 10 seconds, then just turned around and walked away. She didn't try to help at all. Headset lady came back and wanted to know if I wanted my order now or 5 pm. If I had said 5 pm, either they were going to throw out the 2nd meal they were working on, or I was gonna get an ice cold meal at 5 pm. I opted to take the meal at that point. Once the meal was ready, headset lady (who by now clearly had an attitude), asked me if I wanted my bag sealed up? I had no idea what she was talking about so I said I didn't care. Headset lady put my order into a plastic bag, put it onto the counter and immediately turned around and walked away. No thank you. No apology for how they made my order early. No apology or explanation for anything. No customer service. I ended up calling and complaining to Del Taco corporate. So I'm a Del Taco connoisseur. This location is subpar. While I know that the kiosks hadn't worked for me for Del Taco rewards, I was told that I had to use it. Of the Mexican fast food chains, Del Taco is probably my favorite, followed by El Pollo Loco. That's because the menu at El Pollo Loco has changed and isn't as amenable to a snacking type meal. The menu has changed a little at this chain, too. I no longer visit Taco Bell. It's not that I dislike it as much as I don't care for the uniform Taco Bell taste across its menu items. Many Del Tacos start with a 4 stars with me. This one in Twentynine Palms was just a little flatter all the way around. The service was fine. The food was okay. I ate in. The eating area was clean, but dated and not that inviting. There appeared to be a covered outdoor seating area that was reachable from the dining room, but that door was locked. That was too bad because it was a beautiful day with mild temperatures. I could see myself returning to this Del Taco if in the area and seeking a quick fill up of reasonably priced fast food and I also happen to be craving Mexican food. So after watching Grace & Frankie, I really wanted to stop here when I saw one. TLDR: stick to Taco Bell, it's much better. We got a bunch of stuff. I don't remember what all it was and it's not worth looking up. Some quesadilla tacos, a burrito, a quesadilla, a roller, a shake, churros. It was all pretty forgettable and would fall low on my fast food list. The service was awful. There were two people in front of us and we waited 25 minutes to order. This is my favorite Mexican fast food place and I wish there was locations near me. We stopped here after a full morning at the park. Most people were in the drive thru line but we walked in and got our food to go. I ended up getting the fish tacos, shrimp tacos, a snack quesadilla, and the strawberry sprite. The hubby got a burrito combo meal with two extra hard shell tacos. We took the food back to our Airbnb and enjoyed. The seafood tacos was part of an ongoing deal - the fish ones were 2 for $5 and the shrimp ones were 2 for $6. I preferred the shrimp ones over the fish ones. It had more flavor, in my opinion. Also the fish ones were a bit spicy, which isn't my cup of tea. The snack quesadilla was great. I'm a huge fan of Del Taco's quesadillas. If I didn't get 4 tacos, I would've gotten their chicken quesadilla, which is my all time favorite thing to get there. The strawberry sprite was not bubbly - very flat. I wonder if they mis-served me and gave me the strawberry lemonade instead. The receipt said strawberry sprite though. I usually prefer the lemonade but I think they serve it with the diet lemonade here. I had a bite of the burrito and the tacos and they were fine. The crinkle cut fries are pretty solid too. I'm not sure if this del taco is under new management or what but I live in Joshua tree and there is another del taco closer but I will drive my happy ass over to this one for the soul fact they are one of the best. I've had them a few times now and they are just better than other del tacos. The fish tacos was not all gloopy with sauce like other locations they always put the right amount and don't skimp on the cabbage. I've gotten a salad, some tacos, nachos etc. from this location and it's just better you can tell someone is putting real work in the kitchen to not only deliver quality fast food but great presentation! I online ordered , went through the drive thru- made the mistake of NOT checking my bag (my bad!) - got back to my motel and find that I have no fries :( really the only thing I wanted was my WELL DONE crinkle cut fries. So I went back - the lady at the drive thru tell me "They're in the bottom of your bag" --- which they were not- anyways- went through and they did give me a medium fry instead of small. The staff is really friendly. The food was actually cooked well- I haven't done Del Taco much when I did live here but it was ALWAYS the go to for my buddies after the bar. They do have tostadas , now chicken and avocado ones also which looked pretty good. I just noticed they had burgers too! I did grab a 2 piece order of the caramel cheesecake Desert flautas. They're milkshakes are always on point and I did see they have new ones available! Churro milkshake and a dulce de leche. May have to actually stop and try that! So I guess the only complaint I have is that they did not give me my complete order which was pretty much 2 out of 4 times when I lived in 29 for a few years. read more

Wether it is employee shortage, out of stock on cups, drink flavors are out, a dining room that closes at 3pm or there in inability to take order outside of door dash / mobile they can really only be counted on to be a non functioning company. I have been coming to this Del Taco for a long time. It was usually the best Del Taco around. Latley, I have noticed quite a few things have been "off." Small items forgotten, price increases, directions not followed and the like. I understand that with covid, many people are struggling and there are a few changes. Today I ordered a half pound green burrito and a medium drink. $4.40 seems awfully steep for a cheap burrito and a drink that was mostly ice but times are tough, I get it. After getting my food, I had to stop in the parking lot. I could tell by the weight of the bag that something was wrong. Half of the burrito was flat and the other half was just...gone. It was just a snack and I was going to let it go but there have been around a half dozen times that they forgot my chips and cheese, or a burrito or cinnamon twists within the last 6 months or so. I decided to go inside to make sure I didn't get a kids burrito or some new value burrito. I will say, the worker was never rude to me but was not willing to help either. She explained that the burrito was the normal size and there was not a small/kids burrito. I asked her to feel how light my bag was and she told me that it was against policy to touch food and didn't offer anything further. It bugged me because I have eaten probably around 600 del taco burritos in my life, perhaps more and I know how big they usually are. At times, it seems there is even too much beans and cheese and I need to toothpaste-squeeze it around so it doesn't explode. I couldn't let it go so I wrapped it back up and weighed it when I got home. Sure enough, it was right under 6 ounces. (The attached picture came out on a slight angle but it was a hair under 6 when you read it straight on) perhaps this was a waste of time for such a petty thing but I eat, on the average, approximately 1 green burrito a week. In a year, this would add up to 104 ounces of burrito advertised that I didn't receive. I am not a mathematician but that adds up to about 17 bucks and change a year that Del taco is shorting me. There are times when their food doesn't look like the picture or they get a little skimpy with the fries but the name of the item is a "Half Pound Green Burrito." Not a "6 ounce Burrito", not a "pretty big burrito" or even an "almost half pound burrito." If you are going to put a unit of measurement or weight on an item, it really needs to be truthfull and at least somewhat accurate. I am just one person, if you add up the customers that eat there more than I do, that is a large sum. I don't know if I have the time to start a class action lawsuit and it would probably be a wasted effort but something needs to be done. Out of all the things in this horrible world, few things were consistent. Del taco burritos are no longer one of them. On a side note, I spoke to an ex employee that knew me as a regular customer and was told about some bullying and other things that have gone on there about a month ago. That had nothing to do with my visit today but perhaps it speaks of the character that this location has. It is disturbing to me that I am this worked up over a cheap burrito and some of my review was facetious and slightly tounge in cheek but the principle of it really ruined my day. I would give this place 5 stars because they're so nice but nothing is more gross that seeing employees without gloves. Please have your employees wear gloves or I'll have to report it to the proper people next time. This is the 5th time I've seen no gloves and dirty fingernails.
