Delaney's gives the impression of being a high-class fine dining eatery. Wrong! The food is average at best, the service is provincial and the bar is poor. They start with plastic cover plates, followed by chipped porcelain. The escargot are some kind of local concoction which has no relationship to the real thing. The lobster bisque was some kind of pink water with a little fish flavor. The entrees are prepared with little joy and don't exact any positive comments. Deserts are very tasteless and the cocktails are watery. The only outstanding dish was the scallops. Would not recommend to anyone with high expectations. read more

We booked evening reservations weeks in advance and came for dinner. We were seated promptly and brought water and rolls. Then we were completely ignored for 15 minutes until we flagged down a waiter; eventually they came to take our order. There were just two of us and we ended up in a booth for six beside a very noisy group of four. Conversation was difficult because of the noise. When we asked for another roll the comment was of the nature that this was a request they guess they could honor. The appetizers (fried green tomatoes especially) and food were fantastic and the service eventually improved to satisfactory. The all male wait staff is quite unusual in todays time. The acoustics were awful and not conducive to a conversation. Only the food made it worthwhile. read more

How it took me 5 visits to the St Simons/Jekyll Island area to find Delaney's, I will never know. I'm just glad I found it. Heads and above better than any restaurant in the area, staffed with professional waiters, and delivering very good though not particularly inventive chop house fare, Delaney's impresses. While the food borders on being slightly overpriced, the wine list is a bargain and has a respectable representation of all the major wine regions, with a concentration in California and a strong nod to Cabs. Expect to pay in the $100-$150 range for apps, dinners and wine for two. It was worth every penny. The night we dined there were no less than over a dozen specials, all sounding tantalizingly delicious. We had the fish specials, the halibut being cooked to perfection. I only call that out because halibut is so frequently overlooked. Not in the hands of this chef. Kudos, and we will be back! read more

The mark up on wine is pretty crazy, saw a bottle in the grocery store for 18 that they were selling for 80...same wine....300%...really? Really fantastic food with a varied selection. My wife and I were staying at Sea Island during Covid and had many of our reservations cancelled. Delaney's accommodated us, and did a great job. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The food and service were equally great. The staff greeted us right away and they worked together to ensure we were always taken care of. A perfect example of service. They made sure we didn't have to wait for anything while at he same time didn't constantly interrupt us (they were not the hovering staff). I have to be honest, I originally wasn't all that impressed with the menu prior to going there when I saw it online, but I was pleasantly surprised by their specials. They had almost as many specials as they did on their regular menu. The most unique specials including ostrich and antelope (no, this is not a autocorrect mistake). We started with large sea scallops sautéed in a citrus butter with toasted almonds. I could actually smell the natural sweetness of the scallops before I even put it in my mouth! As large as they were I was taken back by how perfectly cooked they were. The sauce complimented the perfectly cooked scallops and didn't overpower it at all. We had the strawberry balsamic salmon and the filet of beef Diane. Both were cooked perfectly. It was the freshest salmon I've ever had while in the east coast. The salmon was cooked so perfectly that it really didn't even need the balsamic glaze and it even had a non fish lover want to trade their filet for my salmon! Don't get me wrong, the filet was equally as good with the Demi glacé, but this is to point out how perfect that salmon was. If I lived there I would definitely be a regular. read more

Walked in without reservations and got lucky enough to get in. This a gem of a restaurant that is obviously loved by the residents, and I can understand why. The tables are set beautifully, the ambiance is reserved and warm. The food was wonderful. I had the scallops and, OMG, these things practically melted in my mouth! Tender and delicious. The salad was perfectly portioned and seasoned. My mom had the crabcakes and they were yummy too. Lots of crab inside. We shared the creme Brule for dessert with a cup of coffee. Great food. Had a dinner with some colleagues here recently. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were welcomed warmly and seated promptly. Drinks and appetizers were brought out quickly and didn't disappoint. We shared escargot, fried green tomatoes and bacon wrapped shrimp. All were tasty and well prepared. I had the special Antelope Chops. To me, it was a bit pricey at $45. However, it was cooked to a Perfect medium rare and the sauce was the perfect complement. Portions were a tad on the small side, but the flavor was huge. The only negative was that the server did seem to rush us. It was early in the evening and there wasn't an obvious need to turn the table over so I'm not sure why he was rushed. Still a very good experience overall. read more

Fantastic!!! Drove up to St. Simons for the day and luckily we found Delaney's. Melissa, our server was fun and knowledgeable and the food was amazing. My husband had the blackened flounder which they graciously accommodated to a sandwich when only the entree was on the menu. I had the scallops and they were large, meaty and delicious. Both entrees were served with a fantastic salad and we were easily talked into the mile high pistachio pie for dessert. It is obvious that the chef and staff care deeply about what they serve and work to find the best ingredients. Very impressed and can't wait to come back for dinner! Also since safety is a concern these days I will add that the restaurant was very clean, social distance was adhered too and everyone we came into contact with was wearing a mask. We arrived at the restaurant a little late due to confusion on which restaurant we were going to. Initially the owner seemed understanding but put us at a table against the wall. We asked for a change he said he would check and then came back and said he couldn't do that. 15 minutes later another couple got the larger table so he obviously decided to punish us. The waiter was rushed as was the whole restaurant. We went to this restaurant with the expectation that it was fine dining. It was OK but it was certainly not fine dining. There are a few places on St. Simons and Sea Island the local residents would just as soon keep to ourselves. Its not because we are uninviting of vistors - its because we also cherish our sense of community - of being 'home'. We know we are blessed with so many wonderful restaurants - largely due to the patronage of seasonal visitors and part time residents alike - but still - it is nice to have a place where you can enjoy a lunch or an evening among friends and neighbors. Delaney's is one such place - and so it is with some hesitancy that I write of this wonderful restaurant. Still - its only 'right' to do so - and indeed visitors SHOULD discover this wonderful place. Chef Tom and his fabulously professional staff make dining at Delaney's a complete pleasure. Located on Frederica Road, mid-island, and across an interior terrace from Sal's Pizzaria - another island institution - Delaney's has, for many years, offered a consistently outstanding and interesting menu for both lunch and dinner. The menu; that is the first unique point. Delaney's has a wonderful menu - for both lunch and dinner - however, loyal patrons know that two thirds of the offerings are never printed. There are numerous specials for lunch - based on whatever is fleshly on hand in the kitchen, but do not miss the Portabella mushroom 'pizza' - and frankly - I love their luncheon salads. They also offer soup and sandwich combinations which change daily - and are highly popular. - For dinner - there will likely be 4-6 specials per course, per evening. At lunch you will find groups of women or men enjoying conversation, one or two tables engaged in a 'working lunch' - and small tables of couples or close friends enjoying the day. In the evening the atmosphere is strongly social - albeit large or small tables - it will be an evening among friends - and the patrons choose to dress as what we call 'sea island casual' - Jackets, but ties or no ties for men - and in most cases a skirt and jacket for women. One of my pet peeves about Yelp or other rating apps is giving a bad review for a restaurant that you've been to a bunch of times but have one bad experience and all of a sudden rate it poorly. My review is based on the 20+ times at Delaney's. My comments are about tonight. We arrived tonight about 15 minutes early for our reservations. Table wasn't ready which was expected. Guy at the bar was fantastic and very friendly. We got seated shortly after 8 which was our reservation time. No one showed up for at least 15 minutes to say anything. Finally Rob did who by the way wasn't our server but could see we'd been siting there forever. Gave us the specials and ended up coming over a few times over the night to help. Our server, KiKi, finally showed up and had an attitude from the start. We asked a couple of questions about the specials and clearly he didn't want to be there. We ordered the lump crab appetizer which was amazing. We ordered Veal Hannah and the rack of lamb for our entrees. I asked for a Syrah or Zinfandel to go with my lamb. I got white Zinfandel. They took it back. Veal which we've had many times was almost non existent of veal. Lots of crab imperial but literally almost no veal. Lamb was good. My biggest complaint was Kiki. He clearly didn't want to be there was never helpful or nice. Just terrible service. My guess is when we return soon it will be great again. I can handle a miss on food after over 20 visits but bad customer service is never acceptable. Hopefully we will get another server next time. read more

I almost cancelled our reservation and I'm so glad I didn't. Yes this place is a favorite with locals ( including my Aunt and Uncle who recommended it) so I was worried we wouldn't be welcome. I was completely wrong. Kevin (K.K. to his friends) made us feel right at home and really took care of us. Let me start by saying we eat out a lot and have been to fabulous fine dining restaurants all over the country. So I was a bit jaded that " great" in the Deep South was just going to be stuffy and mediocre. However, everything we had was outstanding. It was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Like you've probably read in other reviews, they have lots of specials. Half are appetizers and half entrees including ostrich and bison which tends to indicate to me " trying to be pretentious". However they are locally sourced so I'm sure they are lovely. We had great drinks , " the Fresca " and a peach Bellini to start while we contemplated the many options. It was so hard to choose but we chose the bacon wrapped grilled shrimp which were huge and outstanding. We are still wishing we had tried the blue crab bisque as it sounded great. We were off to a great start. I've seen a few comments on the pricing. Let me just say all the entrees come with awesome hot bread, delicious salads and starch and seasonal vegetables. So to pay $25-35 per entree is totally reasonable in an age where typically the salad and even sides now are a la carte. K.K steered me to the veal scaloppine with crabmeat and mushrooms ( he was worried about me liking lamb chops medium well) and he was right. I've eaten veal in some of the best Italian restaurants including Italy and it may have been the best veal I've ever had. So tender and thin and lightly breaded and the crabmeat was just right and the mushrooms superb. The sides of Brussels sprouts ( the seasonal vegetable ) and the mashed potatoes were superb. Just the right amount but not overwhelming. My sister has the snapper ( fresh catch ) which she enjoyed as well. We were just too full for desert but KK didn't want us to leave without something sweet so he brought the cream brûlée. It was as good as advertised and the perfect end to the meal. Our total bill was $107 before tip which is so reasonable for all it included. Do not miss this place. Yes, there are a lot of dressed up locals but as a visitor, we were welcome and had the best meal so far in this area at a very fair price for what it included. Don't miss it. read more

The food we ordered was delicious. Very fresh and well prepared. We enjoyed the scallops and foie gras for appetizers and salmon and grouper specials for dinner. The pistachio pie was also excellent. I read many amazing reviews for Delaney's which not only complimented the quality of the food selection and taste but also the small family warm feeling from their special attentive staff. We chose this to celebrate on the first evening of our honeymoon based on those special atmosphere recommendations as well as the quality of the food. I was very disappointed that we didn't have a special feeling evening at all. Our service was very efficient, matter of a fact and impersonal. No small talk, welcomes or conversation AT ALL! just presented with our choices for ordering and the bill dropped during our desserts without inquiry. It was just a cold institutional experience which was so disappointing for such a special occasion for us. The restaurant was certainly aware as I called ahead for reservations and included that information when reserving. I would absolutely recommend if you are wanting a delicious meal but certainly not if you are celebrating anything at all as you may leave as disappointed and ignored as I felt. read more

Had lunch there today - we will never return! The waitress paid attention only to the locals and was rude. The crab "bisque" was more like salty potato soup with extra salt and light on flavor and crab. No apology from the waitress when I returned it, but she didn't charge me. The blackened fish had curry and other Indian spices - never seen that before, and it was not pleasant. No opportunity to complain, or get drink refills, as the waitress never asked how we were doing, etc. The 20% tip (said to be their policy for 5+ but not stated on the menu) was the final straw. When I complained about it the gentleman working there just turned his back on me. This was a real surprise because I had been there several times for dinners that were good, with good service - but I think the difference was our host (for a seminar) had rented out the entire restaurant. read more

Great food, friendly and interesting staff and great atmosphere. Food is amazing (At worst it is a bit on the pricey side but the quality matches the price) and the staff is so friendly and attentive. My parents travel this way more frequently and always hit this place for dinner every time they go. The specials are all you need to know as well when ordering. Best food on St. Simon's and Sea Island. Food is fresh and inspired by a chef who is an artist without going overboard. From escargot, beet salad to great steak or salmon with a mango salsa, Delaney's never misses a beat. They could serve better wines by the glass but luckily in Georgia, you can cork a bottle and bring it home (their wine list is great). Go -- you will not be let down.
