We ordered lots of things to share, including pasta, a few pizzas, and chicken skewers. The pasta, according to my colleagues, was just OK. I had high hopes for the pizza. While it was good, the dough was missing some chewiness, as it was slightly burnt. The chicken skewers were good, though a little undercooked. Where California Pizza Kitchen once stood now stands Delarosa, located on the north side of the mall along Sand Hill Road. We arrived after the lunchtime crowd and decided to try their weekday Happy Hour, which runs from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The table we were initially seated at was a little small, so the host graciously combined two tables for us. One thing we appreciate is having enough room for all of our dishes without feeling cramped at a small table. The modern, light-wood interior is spacious, with a combination of booth, table, bar, and patio seating. I especially love the brick, wood-fired pizza oven on display in their open kitchen. We started with their Happy Hour drinks: the Classic Margarita for $8. The price was good; however, the glassware seemed a bit small. I'm not sure whether this is their normal serving size or if it was reduced for Happy Hour. Either way, the margaritas were refreshing, just what we needed after a day of walking around and shopping. For our small plates, we ordered: * Meatballs ~ Spicy tomato sauce and crostini. The two meatballs were tasty, and the tomato sauce had a very natural, clean taste. The standout item was the toasted crostini. It had a wonderful grilled flavor, and we could see the toasty, blackened marks. * White Prawns ~ Five large prawns in a garlic, butter, lemon, and saffron sauce. These were super tasty, and I loved that they were served in a mini cast-iron dish. * Capricciosa Pizza (not part of the Happy Hour menu) ~ Marinara, provolone, prosciutto cotto, artichokes, cremini mushrooms, and sausage (additional topping). This was a perfectly thin, Roman-style pizza. Overall, we had a good dining experience with friendly service. Came in off the street, looking for something different. The food was TERRIFIC. Start with the ceprese salad, and give rhe "adult hot pockets" a try, too! They have pizzas, salads, main meats , appetizers, and of course a full menu of drinks. There were. Four of us n we split the bill, waiter was extremely helpful with his favorite recommendations in each category. The full sized beet salad was more than enough for 2. The avg sized pizza is 13 inches, similar to a medium from other restaurants. I had the prawn linguine, portion was good, n it was quite tasty. We ordered their Classic Margaritas, a great deal at $8, but we are not sure if the cocktails were smaller than regular size. Their Meatballs were full size, firm but tender, served with a slightly spicy tomato sauce with two pieces of toasted bread. Classic Italian marinara meatballs. Their White Prawns, 5 big pieces, were sautéed in a garlic butter sauce with a hint of chili and saffron and served with two pieces of toasted bread. The thin crust wood fired pizza came with prosciutto, artichoke and wild mushrooms. A very good pizza with texture and flavors to satisfy most pizza cravings. Came here for lunch on a Friday. We were able to find relatively easy parking luckily, and were quickly seated. The ambiance is cute and warm, seemed like a great lunch or happy hour spot, but could also see it being a good date night spot. Unfortunately, the service doesn't quite fit the vibe. When we asked our server how he was, he just said "tired." When we asked for recommendations, he said he'd only eat one of the pastas and wouldn't even want to try the rest. The vibes in the restaurant are nice but the service was so slow. The CAPONATINA was interesting. There was a lot of capers and it was lacking eggplants. They also served this with a sliced loaf of bread similar to what you'd make a sandwich with. This was so strange to me! The menu said it was paired with a crostini and normally crostinis are crispy on a baguette of sorts. The Bartender pizza came out cold and it was spicy exactly how it was described on the menu. Although we were quickly seated, our server was nowhere to be seen for over 15 mins. We were about to get up and leave when we decided to flag down another server (Xavier?). He was apologetic, took our drink orders, and went about trying to get our server. Said server still did not show up, so Xavier (?) took our order when he brought our drinks. Our Beet salad shortly arrived and we wondered where our Onion Focaccia was going to show up. Well, it showed up just before our pizza showed up. Talk about most of the items being premade! Happy with this new addition to the Stanford shopping center. Wonderful spot to sit down after waking around the mall. I really enjoyed my glass of Sangiovese - a full bodied red without a tannin finish. The beet salad was great - I do get beet salads often and liked that it came with kale along with farro which made it just a tasty and hearty salad. Normally I'm just trying to stuff some greens down before the pizza but I could've even used more of the salad ! (Comes in both a small and the large , and the large wasn't that large) The have a kids menu - and my son enjoyed his meatballs from that menu, which was also a mini coloring packet We thought the marguerita pizza was perfect . Service was prompt, and the waitress was very friendly and was very understanding and patient since she had to keep checking if we were ready to order (we were chatting so much). The staff seemed very young and unaware, and the wait times were too long. The prawns were small, still had shells, and tasted frozen. The pizza was undercooked and could have used more time in the oven. The red sauce was very basic. The Caesar salad was the best part, but even that tasted generic. The house beers were also disappointing and tasted like canned grocery store beer. It also took foreverrr for our server to come around to take our order. We were hangry at that point. We ordered.. CAESAR SALAD $9 -little gem lettuce, caesar dressing, croutons, parmesan cheese. Very refreshing, the lettuce was crisp and I loved the croutons. There wasn't enough caesar dressing though, so a lot of pieces were just plain lettuce. With young ones we have to eat early but we always make reservations regardless because there is zero flexibility with toddler hanger. We walked in and our table was already set up with our two requested high chairs. As a mom to two young toddler twins - this gave them 5 stars in my book. We've now been to all four Delarosa locations and we're happy to say that the latest Palo Alto installment exceeded expectations. I'm a devotee of the beet salad, and this version improved on others with slightly candied almonds and a pleasing ratio of ingredients. Other locations, while very good, aren't always generous with beets and cheese. Living in San Francisco, it would be hard to judge the salad's consistency in Palo Alto, but exhibit A was a winner. Additionally, the space is far less hectic than both city locations. The Marina and Downtown restaurants are energetic and fun, but the cluttered communal tables and seats without backs make it less than ideal. This one has a more relaxed layout and the isolated booths are a much better environment for sharing a dining experience, replete with conversation and calmness. We didn't order the pizza, however I presume the onion bread is the same dough as the pizza? Just a suspicion. If that's the case the pizza is probably a bit too crunchy for my taste. We overheard the table next to us commenting on picking another good pizza place so they enjoyed it. I enjoyed the bread and the grilled/baked onions on top, but I liked the other two items more. Pasta: The vegetable lasagna was really rich and had a number of different vegetables. Zucchini, squash, carrots, red pepper (might have forgotten something) that were diced up. You can also tell when the ingredients are high quality. And the cheese pull was out of control. If you are in it for the gram, video the epic cheese pull. YUM! The hanger steak was tender and well seasoned, and the caramelized onions were great. The pizza was good. I ended up adding some of the onions to my pizza as well, which really elevated the flavors. Honestly, the best part of the steak spiedini was probably the potatoes and onions. I scooped every last piece onto my plate! The pizzas were great and the shrimp were nicely cooked. We went here for an office party and I think it is OK. It's probably a little bit better than OK but I don't want people to come and be disappointed. Our order included a bunch of items from the menu and the general thought was that it was ok. The pizza was ok, the steak was ok, the pasta was ok, the appetizers were ok, the desserts were ok, the drinks were ok. However, I barely remember anything and I don't think we really talked much about the food afterwards like we have done at other places. I have personally not craved anything I had that day even though the quality was good. Service was good, environment was good, and I hope the food is improved. My my my Delarosa is slept on. Been to the Bishop ranch location a couple times and it was good, but for some reason this location hits harder. Everything was delicious, but the star of the show was the hangar steak. It was perfectly cooked and so tender I was amazed. The expectations weren't super high, but now the expectation is that the steak comes out delectable every single time. Also the Cacio e Pepe fries! It would seem obvious that salt AND pepper should go on fries since it goes on literally everything else that I'm surprised more places don't do it. They should. So simple but it makes a world of difference. Service was quick enough, ambiance was nice. Perfect lunch while shopping in the Stanford Shopping center. Also they have a solid happy hour. read more

Service = 5. Ambience = 5. Prices = 5. Food = 2. Yes, that bad. Maybe it's just me, but the marinated olives were very strong to the point they were so covered in spicing, we couldn't taste the natural briny olives, a shame because they had a nice assorted bland of green and black. We wanted to order the beet salad, but their kale, we were informed, is raw. I'm not a cow or elephant or rabbit, such my colon and intestines can digest that notoriously rough to digest green. Their crab balls were 100 % fire. Perfect, fresh, excellent texture, crispy exterior, creamy soft intrude, and the saving grace. Their pizza, I took one bite and sour it out on my plate. We got their fennel salsiccia and added funghi with light cheese. I'm not sure if it was fontina I tasted, but it was an absolute no go, I couldn't swallow it. The flavors didn't marry well. Such a shame because their patio is beautiful and interior snazzy looking with a gorgeous bar. We did love all the waitstaff, gracious sweet attentive warm and friendly. It's possible we ordered wrong and should've tried other things e.g. entrees or pastas. Prices would've been very reasonable if only we'd have been able to eat more than two crab balls each :-( read more
