We finally made it to Pizzeria Delfina in the Mission to try the pizza we've heard so much about. They have a "vegan" pizza option but it did not sound all that appetizing so we ordered a modified version of one of their "white pies". Total disappointment! We were talked into ordering a single pizza for 2 people. Don't know why the server thought that would feed two adults but it didn't. It was a lot smaller than explained. The pizza we ordered was the Funghi, modified to be vegan - added red sauce and remove the cheese. It came out with a burnt to a crisp crust, totally awful. At first bit, we just thought the crust was super crisp but quickly realized as we watched others with the capability to fold their pizza. Something you couldn't do with the pizza we received. It was burnt enough that it couldn't be folded and it actually made eating crummy as it broke like a cracker when you took a bit. You might ask, did you speak to your server about it? No, she didn't come back to the table until we were finished. No checking in on us, no would you like another drink or would you like to order something else. She just brought us the check. We didn't bother with telling her anything because we had eaten what we could of the pizza. I had tried stopping another employee to see if we could get some help and he dodged me completely. We paid and left, still hungry and super disappointed. Tartine Bakery is right next door, so there shouldn't be much sticker shock around this part of town. But Tartine's morning buns are legendary. The pizzas at Delfina, on the other hand, are nothing to write home about. Whenever I visit a pizzeria for the first place, I like to order a margherita pizza. I don't have boring taste when it comes to pizza (or at least I'd like to think so...) Rather, the deceivingly simple margherita serves as a good baseline. Some of the best pizzerias I've been to have made their margherita pizza a standout dish. The same goes for Delfina, but only because it was a bit underwhelming for such a highly-rated restaurant. My friend and I split the margherita pizza and the 4 Formaggi. For a pizza whose identity revolves around the combination of four different cheeses (mozzarella, fontal, provolone, pecorino), the 4 Formaggi honestly could've passed for the margherita. That attests to how bland each of the pizzas tasted. But the consistencies didn't stop there. Whether I was reaching for the margherita or the 4 Formaggi, all of the cheese fell off the slice as soon as I picked it up. Every. Single. Time. The service was actually so subpar that I would give this restaurant a much lower rating if the food has been any less stellar. I arrived at Pizzeria Delfina at about 7:30 pm on a Friday night. As expected, there was a wait, but since we were prepared for this, we just put our names on the board and waited outside. After about 20-30 min, we were approached by the hostess who asked if our names were on the board and once we told her that our party's name was indeed written up, she proceeded to inform us in a rather brusque manner that she had been calling for our party. She seemed a bit irritated that we had not responded, but with the crowd and the surrounding noise, we really had not heard her. We were promptly given a table, outside, and left with cups, but not water. Our waitress came over and we were able to put in our orders quickly, but we had to ask two different servers before we were provided with any water. This is where the evening began to go a bit downhill. After dropping off our food, our waitress was practically non-existent. She did not check on us in terms of water and basically left us in a corner for the rest of the night. At one point, we spilled a glass of wine and had to make do with the 2-3 napkins at our table because we could not flag her down. The wine had spilled over my friend's plate and we couldn't even grab someone's attention to get another one. Foodwise, we had the margherita dop, burrata with arugula/crostini, and saffron arancini balls. The arancini balls were extremely good! Definitely a highlight of our meal. The pizza was equally as good and very flavorful. Though my friend and I enjoyed the burrata, it was a bit hard to eat since we were given plenty of arugula and burrata, but only two small crostini. We ended up putting some of the burrata onto the pizza crust in order to finish it off. Long story short, this place is popular!! Order early. Example: I ordered at around 5:30 pm on a Friday night and my order was not ready until around 6:45. But omg, the pizza!!! I got the diavola pie (salame piccante, tomato, spring onion, pepperoncini, and mozzarella) and it was just mouth watering good. Like one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. When visiting San Francisco awhile back, food was the biggest thing on my agenda. And checking my ongoing list of a few must-visit pizzerias, one of the top ones left was Pizzeria Delfina. There are lots of hyped-up California pizzas depending on who you ask, however Pizzeria Delfina stands out as one that seemingly everyone agrees is remarkable. Came here 30min before they opened for lunch (with our luggage no less), so we just hung out. After stowing our luggage inside (which was nice of them) and parking out front under a heater, we ordered pretty quick as we were starving. Could tell this is a pretty leisurely place in terms of service, however they were friendly as hell and did a good job of getting everything to us quickly. Their beer menu, while not huge, had a decent number of local options on it. I got a Heretic IPA which was very good, and paired nicely with the pizza to come. I order the sausage pie, which also came with onions and peppers. First and foremost, the crust stands out among West Coast pizza as flavorful, airy and with a great texture. It holds up well to the toppings and makes even the best of its East Coast cousins proud. In terms of toppings, they fucking nailed the flavor profile of a traditional sausage and peppers sandwich which making it less of a gut bomb. The sausage is superb, the onions (one of my favorite things when done right on pizza) were done right, and the peppers added their flavor without overwhelming things. Along with some very fresh and milky fresh mozzarella, this was a pie to remember. My wife got the mushroom pie which came with hen of the woods mushrooms. I managed to get a bite in, and again they nailed what has become a common type of artisan pizza. Nothing remarkable in terms of rewriting the rules with crazy toppings perhaps, however the quality level definitely is remarkable in a way that measures up to the nearly immeasurable hype. And the prices was very reasonable all things considered. This was among the best pizza I've had, and I've had the best the NY metro area and beyond has to offer (check my reviews). This place is conveniently located near Mission Dolores Park. We went around 6:30 PM on a Saturday and ordered at the counter and were told it would be about 20 minutes for our pizza. The cashier was super nice. A lot of people order online or ahead of time. It was nice how the counter is on the sidewalk so you don't have to walk inside to order during COVID times. There were a few people waiting on the street for their food but we were able to have our space. I ordered the salssicia. It would be great if you love salty sausage because the portions of the sausage were generous. For me though I think I would have preferred getting one of their fresher cheese options. Came here on a Wednesday night at around 7:30 pm and it's a tiny place that gets packed really quick! It's right beside Delfina, which is a more fine dining Italian restaurant, while this is the more casual neighbor. We had the Saffron Arancini to start with which are stuffed rice balls which are coated with bread crumbs and then deep fried, priced at $9. These were better than I thought! They have a nice crunchy exterior and a warm steamy rice interior. It was savoury and seasoned lightly. Finally, we had the main course - which was the Margherita Dop, you pay $5 more than the regular Margherita and you get better mozzarella cheese and tomatoes than the regular Margherita. Comfort can be found in many things. I find it in the pizza here, hence the term "comfort food," and in having lunch with an old flame of mine whom I find comfort in conversing with. Without hesitation I can deliver you this - Delfina serves the best pizza I've ever eaten in the greater Bay Area. I've given it a lot of thought. And unlike bbq, where I'm a later arrival to the party, I grew up on pizza. I suckled pizza. All my mom ate whiles incubating me was pizza. I know what I'm talking about. On my maiden voyage I samples a four cheese with prosciutto and a plate of the bread crumbed asparagus for a starter. I'm a loss for words. They were perfect. Thin crust, yet firm and just crunchy enough. Thinner sauce, though not watery. Prosciutto sliced so thin you could read through it. Perfect proportion of crust sticking out, perfect proportion of crust singed black. The taste of the oven adds, for me, to the taste of the pie. When I used to make pizzas I left singed bits of me in the oven each night and I wondered if it gave my burnt offerings a sweeter flavor, but that's another story for another time. On the chalkboard for the half-hour wait was a party named Broken. In between the lovely bites, I wondered. It resonated. Was it meant to say Broken One? That made me a little sad. We got the burrata for an extra couple dollars, and we were so glad we did! We scarfed the delicious and baked-just-right-pizza down in a few minutes, and were filled to the brim sharing it between us two. Pizzeria Delfina seems like a nice place to enjoy a meal. It's very chic with it's decor. It's a tiny pizzeria that's walking distance to the Bi-Rite creamery. I'm not too big on the concept of thin crusted pizzas, but I do enjoy one if it's made to my liking. I forgot the name of the first pizza we got, but it's one with arugula, and some thin sliced meat. It was good, very good actually, but I wouldn't crave it. The second one we got was the "margherita pizza." It was very tasty. The only thing that bothered me was that it was more charred than I would like. The charred crust and bottom overpowered the margherita flavor me, and that greatly took away from my experience. I did really enjoy the ambiance though. The playlist they had while I was here was the best! Slow jams from the early 2000's and late 90's! This place is small and very easy to miss. I think we walked past it a couple of times before realizing it was there. The pizza is delicious. I got the pepperoni and my boyfriend got the salsiccia. Both were excellent. The dough was perfectly cooked, loads of cheese and flavor. Do not share, get your own and try diff kinds. Don't waste your time with salads and apps. Dive straight into the pie. I've only been to the restaurant in the Mission one time, for a more fancy dinner. I've been to the Palo Alto location like 5 times, truly too many to count. I love this place. As much as the pizzeria Delfina in pacific heights. The best pizza in SF. And amazing vegetable appetizers to have before the pizza. Best things on the menu: I would pick the tomato based pizza here given that the tomato is what makes the pizza here. Cherry tomatoes are picked from two local farms in California during peak season and canned away to use for the rest of the year. Sausiccia with Italian sausages is a perennial favorite. The thin dough is perfect. The flavors are right on. All of the vegetable salads are amazing, using the best ingredients in California: tri-color, beet salad, etc. The wine by the glass menu is always great at Delfina. If you are not sure, get recommendations from the waiter and try them before getting them. The ones with nerello mascalese (rose or red) are always good bets here. read more

Short wait around 8pm on a Wednesday night. We sat outside in the chilly SF summer night but the heat lamp helped. Server was attentive. They generally have a pretty good thin crust pizza (sometimes overly charred on the bottom), but the clam just didn't work well. One of my FAVORITE pizza places in the Bay Area. It does not make me feel regretful after eating it! If you're a pizza lover.. you have to come here. Thankful I came on a Saturday at 4pm so there was no line :) I recommend the margarita (naturally sweet tomato sauce and delicious mozzarella cheese). I've walked by this place so many times on my way to Dolores Park and didn't give it much thought, but after giving it a try, I'd definitely want to keep coming back. This place is not your typical pizza restaurant. The quality of food here extends beyond what you would expect. Not to be confused with Delfina, located right next door, Pizzeria Delfina serves mainly pizza. The wait is definitely a lot shorter than Delfina, and the space is a lot smaller too, so I would not recommend coming here with a big party. Before our food came out, the waiter brought out bread sticks for the table, one for each person, and a plate of spices (oregano, pepper flakes, and cheese). My party of five ordered three pizzas and a side of meatballs and it was a good amount of food. Each pizza can feed about 2-3 people. The pizza dough is soo good, not too thin where the toppings are falling off, but it still has a good crunch to it. The pizzas are not greasy so you don't feel slower after you finish. The meatballs were amazing too, it comes on a hot skillet plate and drowned in a lot of tomato sauce. I highly recommend this place and would come back soon. We recently picked up some pizzas from Pizzeria Delfina and took it to the park nearby. The ordering process was really smooth and the pizza was ready by the time we got there! They also provided utensils and napkins since we were eating it outdoors. We ordered the Pesto Pie and the flavors in the pizza were great. Our friends ordered their Margherita Pizza and loved it! If you plan on going to Mission Dolores Park and are looking for an easy takeout option, this is a great spot! read more

The food was AMAZING but the service not so much. We were in SF on vacation and came here because the yelp pictures of the food looked great. It's a smaller restaurant so we walked in and had no idea how it worked, the waitress was busy and got to us as soon as she could. She told us to sit at the table outside and she'd be right with us- fine... we sat down and waited and a lady with a comb over came up to the table and rudely asked if we just sat there or put our names down on the list inside. We told her we were seated there by the waitress and she had the audacity to challenge us by saying that they didn't even set the table yet like if we were lying. My boyfriends a lot more passive then I am so whatever we let it go. Long store short, food was great, waitress was friendly but that interaction with the manager or whoever she was left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd recommend this place solely for the food but would advise to get it to go so you don't have to risk a run in with that rude employee. read more
