I wanted to like this place, but it was pretty poor on the day I went. Several people were idling in line with no one at the cash register. A person came from another part of the building after about 5 mins... I assume that is where the sandwhiches are made. Orders were placed. I had the Brisket special sandwhich and asked for it plain... ie, brisket and bun. I was second in line and there was another person behind me and then another came in. I waited for about 15 mins. I noticed the cashier disappeared again to get someones food. Then he was chatting with some guests for a bit. Finally, he disappeared again and arrived with two orders, but it was the two people AFTER me. Another 5 minutes later I got my brisket sandwhich. Also a few other people came in after me and the same process seemed to repeat over and over... ie come in to an empty cashier, wait around in confusion. Several people mentioned it was their first time that day so maybe having a sign or having some sort of system to notify when an order is ready. It looks like the slice of brisket I got was the outside and about 6-7"s long and it was really hard, stringy and tough to chew. It would have been nice if it was chopped finely and if I could have gotten something a bit more tender. It was warmed up though. You would think this would take 30 seconds to make this sandwhich, I should have to wait 15-20 mins. The flavor was ok, but I only ate about half and ended up having to get rid of the other half due to it just being too chewy and one long piece. Parking lot was fairly full, but nice that there was parking there. The vibe was a bit weird overall as well. I don't think I will be back. I am sure they have better sandwhiches, but I just didn't really enjoy the experience and the price was above $15. read more

It's been about a year since we have been to Deli George. The last time I was here I was really unimpressed with the apple gorgonzola salad. The apple slices were huge. There wasn't much in the lettuce department. For 14 bucks, there wasn't a lot of salad to it. My husband always gets the Boise Philly and they always do a good job. So, it's hard for me to say no when my husband wants to come here. We stopped in today for a late lunch. My husband ordered his normal. I decided to be different and ordered the black and blue brat. The picture they have on the brat in their menu looked so good so I had to get it. We grabbed a table and hung out till our food was ready. The food came out nice and hot. My husband's sandwich looked killer like always. Mine...... I wish I could have said the same. My brat came on a sandwich bun. It still looked good but I knew it was going to be a lot of breading to my brat. The brat as savory and peppery. It was good and had a good snap to it. It was a little hard to enjoy the brat since they drowned my bun with the ground mustard. It was really overwhelming. And for 2 bucks you can add sauerkraut. Don't bother adding it cause you barely get any. My husband's sandwich was good. The filet was tender and the cheese was nice and melty. Overall, it was an ok meal. I wish they would have told me about the bun being different. I would have ordered something else. I really want to like this place. Boise! came here on a snowy mushy friday around 1 pm and it wasn't too crowded. I was greeted by the cashier and the cozy vibe made me feel right at home. country music played on the speakers and i enjoyed all the local decor on the walls celebrating baseball teams and high school sports. I asked the cashier what he recommended and he said i should try the philly cheesesteak. I said that sounded great and sat at one of the booths. the food came out nice and hot and the cheesesteak came on this sort of garlic roll. it had provolone cheese, lettuce, steak and mayo. It was a solid sandwich but i have had better. Picked up a sandwich yesterday before a glass blowing class next door. Came in at 5:45pm and the place was empty except for the two employees hanging out. Friendly service and a nice selection of both hot and cold sandwiches. There were several salads were on the menu also. I got the Pilgrim's Pride (turkey, cranberries, cream cheese and lettuce), substituted sourdough bread. It was very tasty, but was a bit on the spendy side. About $15.50 for a whole sandwich that didn't come with any sides. It wouldn't keep me from ordering again, but it was a little bit of a shock when I opened it to see the actual size of the sandwich. A couple of friends also pre-ordered and got different varieties of hot sandwiches. All of them smelled and looked amazing. I will definitely go back to try the Rueben and Beef Dip. I was surprised that there were no soups on the menu. But that just means more attention to their sandwiches I guess. They had 5 or 6 beers on tap, a couple of wines on their menu and maybe canned hard seltzers or cocktails, along with soda for drink options. One of the best delis for a good sandwich in probably the northwest! Great portions, fresh baked breads and great ingredients. Service is always friendly and while the original owner is no longer the person who greets you talking pre 2010, the new owners have done a good job keeping the vibe and feel of the restaurant. I have eaten here more times than I can count over the last 12+ years and they have never failed me or anybody I've brought to try it. Top three things I've enjoyed here over the years! 1. The Delicioso is primo! The focaccia bread paired with the salami, ham, provolone, red onions, mayo and balsamic is amazing. 2. Chicken cheddar bacon ranch. The two cheese (sharp cheddar and provolone) combo on this is a nicely added touch to a popular sandwich. With the sourdough bread toasted. Yum! 3. Apple gorgonzola salad. You have to try it at least once. The flavor blast of this salad is beautiful. The candied nuts pair with everything thats brought to you in a harmony not found often. So as you walk up to this cute little sandwich shop there is a Smoker just outside and it smells great! I did not opt for the Smoked Brisket however it looks great! There are several menu choices and the decisions are tough. These prices are higher than chain shops, and I feel like the meat portion was a bit small for a $20 sandwich. Great spot for a good tasting sandwich, I had the LAPD, which a pastrami with pickles and mustard on French roll. This is how LA does pastrami, the pastrami was tasty...I would've liked my sandwich to be a little more on the thicker side. LA pastrami sandwich are stacked and they're dipped in the au-jus. The Boise version wasn't bad at all. It's something I would have again. Service was great, and the music playing while I dined was jazzy and funky. She's a sandwich, you like sandwiches and your friends thought you should be a perfect match. I asked for extra lettuce, which I see on my receipt, and yet my sandwich only had one leaf per side. It also was supposed to come with balsamic vinegar and mayonnaise, but actually it only had mayo. Go in and order a pilgrim's pride which online a half sandwich was $8.49 and a full for $14.49. I tried to order the half sandwich but then they charged me for a whole. Either way the sandwich is completely over priced and incredibly dry and flavorless. You could make this sandwich for less and it would taste better especially based on what you get. The total was $15.68 and then they wanted a 20%-35% tip!!! So they are saying this sandwich should cost you $22.00, and it does not come with chips and a drink. So not worth it. Would not recommend this establishment. Better off going to a chain deli like Jimmy John's or Jersey Mike's. The Reuben sandwich was good, although it did not have enough meat. I enjoyed the atmosphere, but the loud pop music was not to my liking. I am giving two stars because the girl at the cashier made no effort to be friendly or provide polite customer service. She stared blankly, didn't say hello, thank you, please and no smile. She was slouching and had a jaded, entitled attitude. She actually told me to "Go sit down". Deli George is a go-to lunch spot! I love how they have converted to their entryway to a takeout ordering / pick up area. You can usually catch me on a weekday ordering a BLT combo and then waiting in my car for them to bring it out. The BLT here is probably one of the best you can get- what makes it special is that it's made with avocado and cucumber. I'm usually not a fan of "shred-tuce" aka shredded lettuce, but in this sandwich it really works well with all the other ingredients. The "deli deal" combo comes with chips, a cookie, and a fountain drink-- and it's so worth it! The "Confused" cookie is with macadamia nuts, chocolate chip, and oatmeal-- it's delicious!! The side of potato salad is amazing, they use petite potatoes and slice them fairly slim- a really great innovation of potato salad in my opinion. As you walk through the door, there's a small printed sign that says " Come in. We're Awesome". The bravado cracks me up. Fortunately, the food backs up the bravado. It's unassuming from the outside. In fact, it looks like they built themselves into the back of a Carl's Jr when it wasn't looking. Inside is better. It has a homey quality that really makes it feel like it's a community place. Slightly cluttered and crowded, it remains comfortable. Plus, it smells fantastic. The regulars all seem to have their favorites from the menu, a good sign that it's tough to make a bad choice. I went with the "house favorite" Turkey over Italy, and was glad I did. The focaccia bread tastes fresh baked and while soft, is sturdy enough to hold it all together.
