In the town of great neck, you honestly cant beat Deli on the green! I make a stop there often for lunch and am always satisfied. The bread is fresh, the place is clean, and the price is reasonable. Walk in this morning, order coffee and a bagel only to watch the guys behind the counter ignore my order for 10+ min while they gab with the group of people who came in after me......That group, plus two other folks all managed to get their bagels, coffees, breakfasts etc. with all the urgency the staff could muster. Me? Nothing. But everyone else seemed to get what they wanted. Guy who forgot he took my order asked if I'd like to order (again). Sad to see this. This place was a go-to for my wife and I for years, primarily for their amazing iced coffee (the food is just ok). We can't support a business who's owners show such lack of maturity and no respect for other people (not to mention science). Grabbed a drink and waited for one of 4 employee behind counter to be available to place my order. They seemed extremely pre occupied with what they were doing and none even made eye contact. Nothing says "secure" like a Deli On The Green jumbo styrofoam cup filled with iced-coffee, then tightly wrapped in Saran...I feel like I could punt this thing down a football field! Unless you're in/around the Great Neck peninsula anyway, Deli On The Green is a bit off the beaten path - On Middle Neck Road, North about 5 minutes from the Northern Blvd. or 10 minutes from the the L.I.E. I have the pleasure of working nearby and have yet to receive an iced coffee or sandwich anything short of amazing! Expect to pay between $6 and $9 per lunch sandwich; My staple lunch, a turkey/swiss/lettuce/tomato/onion/honey mustard/whole wheat wrap goes for about eight bucks. Sandwiches are generously filled, with just enough evenly-distributed goodness in every bite! The honey mustard they use is out of this world, but some of the other dressings they have (particularly the Thousand Island) are a pinch on the watery side. If you're in a hurry, there are pre-made grab & go paninis, sandwiches, and salads, and an assortment of rotating fruit cups and yogurt parfaits. Oh, and one last thing - with the open campus at nearby Great Neck North H.S., expect this place to fill up around lunchtime on school days. A classic staple in Great Neck, buried deep within the old town. I've been coming here for well over a decade and despite the several times I've witnessed it come under new ownership, it's still one of the best delis out there. Though a bit pricey for deli food, you get huge portions. The sandwiches are EPIC and can feed two people. The salads are my personal favorite, and they chop them to the point you don't even need to eat your salad with a fork, but you can actually spoon-feed it to yourself (I recommended the breaded chicken over the grilled chicken as one of the toss-ins). My favorite drinks here are the super-sized iced coffees, they're delicious and you always feel "SOOOOOO COOOOOL" sporting one of them around town. The green tea is great too, and they sweeten it with honey! Be careful though, it's a hot spot during lunch hours for the high school kids, and in the summer the whole Parkwood staff can be found at this spot on their lunch break so the lines can get long. read more

I've been here twice and had pretty good experiences both times. Their iced coffees are great, even though they appear to have removed some of the more outlandish sizes they used to carry (still plenty large). The sandwich I had on a recent visit was pretty solid and they had no issues with customizations, which I appreciated. 5 stars for this cute little deli because i've always had a good experience here. school is out for the summer but during the school year i work as a TA and a Bus Matron, my bus would always stop in front of the deli before pick up which made it my go to for a lunch pick me up. i've yet to try a lot of their menu, i tend to stick to what i know, and unfortunately my ass is on a diet, so much of what i ordered was on the *healthier* side. can't wait to go back and try more of their sandwiches and wraps. the service is really great there, i've always been greeted with a smile and a short convo when paying, even when they're busy. they always make you feel appreciated as a customer. i've gotten lettuce wraps from them before with deli meat and i've gotten their rice pudding (not sure if it's homemade but ITS SO GOOD!) their lettuce wraps don't disappoint and neither does their iced coffee. can't wait to bring friends!!! The guys behind the counter took care of their cousins Jose and Carlos even though they didn't wait in line. I never write reviews unless I'm overly satisfied. I've been coming here ever since the ownership took over in 2008 and that's when everything became 100x better. They have and my favorites are: breakfast (egg and cheese sandwich with hash browns and avocado), lunch (chicken rueben, blimpie, or a chicken cutlet with American cheese lettuce tomato avocado spicy mayo on a hero/roll/panini), salads (however you make it, it'll taste super fresh), and iced coffees (French vanilla/hazelnut with honey and almond milk or with milk and sugar). Gary is an amazing and kind person with a huge heart and he always puts his customers first over everything! He will ALWAYS go above and beyond for anybody. And then you have to wait for your food which isn't quick either. The employees are just chatting, indifferent to getting the customer their order. I ordered a panini (all of which were pre-made), I wanted one that was on the menu and they told me I could only have one that was already made and they would warm it up..... for $11. So I got the Italian one. It took 10 minutes just for them to stick it in a microwave. When I opened it up, it was watery, the bread was extremely soggy, and quiet honestly the contents of the panini were indistinguishable and looked questionable at first glance. Needless to say I couldn't finish it not only because it tasted gross, but because the paper was stuck to it and I couldn't get it off. If I wasn't in a rush, I would have went back in and asked for a refund. Do your wallet and your stomach a favor and don't order food from this place. I don't mind being the black sheep of these reviews. Deli on the Green has always just been "okay" for me. I'm not typically a deli person, but this place never has wowed me at all. I've now twice ordered a roast beef sandwich on rye with honey mustard. That's bread + meat + condiment. Each time they forgot the condiment. One time I even ended up with cheese instead of the mustard. I'm really not sure how much more simple it can be than what I ordered. Their selection for a deli doesn't really blow me away and I find their prices to be a bit much (especially considering they can't get my 3 ingredient order right). However the deli is okay and my boyfriend does love it. The breadsticks are the highlight! Sorry everyone, but I'll take Kensington Deli any day. read more

Two out of us three got the chopped salad, which comes with five toppings of your choice. The third sister got a panini. We all agreed that prices were reasonable, especially for Great Neck, and everything we got was filling, newly prepared, and service was moderately quick. Hands down the best deli sandwiches I've had in New York. Their chicken cutlet hero is out of this world. I don't know how they do it; it's the same chicken, lettuce, and tomatoes I've had elsewhere but it just tastes infinitely better from here. Nice little seating area in the back, with televisions, but nothing too fancy. There is parking behind the deli as well. Best chicken cutlet I've ever tasted. While getting an iced coffee I noticed these huge delicious looking cutlets on the counter. I ordered one to go - and haven't looked back.
