My favorite item here is the papa de relleno. The bacalaito is also amazing. Order those two with a jibarito and you're set. I tried the arroz con gandules, not too big of a fan, a bit too olive-y for my taste. There's also a version with salchichon, which really helps balance out the olive taste. The habichuelas with a side of white rice though... perfect. The service is great, the food comes out fresh, so far I've only ordered to go and coming home I don't need to reheat my meal or anything. Sometimes the wait to order your food might take a few minutes. The longest I've waited was 10 minutes, but they definitely seemed busy. I dont know how to review this place because this was the first time I've ever had Puerto Rican food. I don't know how to gauge if the food is considered, "good Puerto Rican food" or "bad Puerto Rican food". Personally, I didn't care too much for the food. Amazing food, killer flan, and an atmosphere like you're going over to your best friends house who just happens to be a stellar cook and host. Those tostones. THOSE TOSTONES. Some of the best tostones I've ever had. I'm not Puerto Rican. But one of my friends is, and SHE also swears these are some of the best tostones she's ever had. My aforementioned friend had the jibarito de pollo (which I wanted, but she ordered it first, so I got something else). My SO ordered the tripleta. Puerto Rican rice was a little heavy on the olives, but completely tasty. They even serve Coco Rico and other PR drinks! I'm hoping I have room for dessert next time. Call me picky or whatever but im from chicago and ive had my fair share of boricua spots, im not expecting in Elgin great puerto rican food but this had to be top 1 or 2 worst boricua restaurants ive ever been to. Besides horrible service and very small portions for a steep price. How do you mess up Beef Stew? I was mind blown one of the easiest recipes and my potatoes were rock hard, still can taste the starch from it not being fully cooked. And the most untender hard to chew beef ive ever had. The arroz con gandoles was ok but i would give it a 5 out of 10. I was going to rate this place a 1. But they actually had really good Pepsi Cherry out of their fountain machine so that was probably the best thing out of my whole meal and expierence there. I tip very well, i gave her 2 dollars and still felt like that was too much. I dont recommend this place to anyone and if you do like it. You probably never went to a real Jibaro spot lol read more

I hate it when wait staff forget or are not informed that they shouldn't be doing that. That alone would make me cringe and want to give a 1 star anywhere. Another thing that came to mind is when serving hot food Do Not Serve over anyone's head. Accidents happen and when a waitress did that I told her that it wasn't okay and then next time she corrected herself. Tell the customer when something is super hot. I know it's hot but some items are hotter than others. 1 star for this initial incident. She knows who she is. The flan is the best thing besides the aranitas. These two get 5 stars. The India Malt a PR root beer as told by the same waitress that gave me the salsa instead of the gravy for my mofongo was okay like prune juice cola. I'd give it a 3 star. My hubby didn't like it.
