I ordered a cake from Lisa for my fiancé's birthday party(9/12). I put in the order a week and a half prior to his birthday so a bit last minute but she made it happen for us. The process of ordering was very easy and straight forward. I told her that I wanted a Don Julio 1942 cake since we will be celebrating with that specific liquor. I wasn't sure of what flavor it should be so she recommended champagne flavor with buttercream and strawberry jam filling which ended up being DELICIOUS. The cake itself was a hit and my fiancé was very happy with the presentation. Everyone at the party LOVED it. I discovered DELIGHTS BY LISA purely by accident about a year ago while out walking in Noe Valley and am very glad I did. Lisa is not only a lovely person, friendly, highly likable and fun to chat with, but a very talented baker as well. I try to drop by and pick something up whenever I'm in the neighborhood. My wife particularly likes her lemon bars but her cookies and chocolate concoctions are wonderful too. This Bakery is in my neighborhood but unfortunately had to close down right as it opened last year due to Covid. Today coming back from my second vaccine dose I saw the open sign and stopped in. Cautionary tale, don't be me, I walked right by the large STOP and Wait here podium like a dope but I recovered as gracefully as one can when you do foolish things. I ordered a blueberry muffin. My husband had a chocolate croissant He said his was really good. I loved my blueberry muffin. Delights by Lisa is a real find! I just had them cater the desserts for my daughter's baby shower and everything was super delicious! We had an assortment of shortbread cookies, little cakes, lemon tartlets, chocolate covered strawberries and oh God, was it good! Everyone loved the desserts! Lisa took plenty of time with me to design the dessert menu. My daughter is a fantastic baker and in the food biz so it needed to be extra special. It definitely was! Lisa is a lovely person and is just getting started at the location on 25th Ave. It is in a place that used to be an awful tea room restaurant and now it's her bakery. I was definitely delighted by Lisa's Bakery! This was my first time getting a cake from her and she was extremely professional. I just required a simple birthday cake for my friend and she was able to get it ready for me in a day. I asked for a simple chocolate cake with layers of peanut butter within. The cake was not overly rich and it was perfectly moist. The design was extremely pretty as well. She even went the extra mile and labeled peanut butter on the box in case someone had allergies. I ordered cupcakes from here for my daughter's birthday. They worked with me over the phone to create beautiful designs. My complaint is the price. Each cupcake was over $3 each, and I didn't feel the cake quality justified that expense. The cake was pretty dry. My other minor complaint was the buttercream frosting: it was the butteriest buttercream I have ever tasted. It tasted OK -- who doesn't love butter??? -- but it seemed like the butter/sugar ratio was way off. Anyway, not terrible overall, but pretty expensive for cupcakes that weren't really more professional than anything I could make at home, which is what I would expect from a bakery specializing in this type of thing. read more

My wife and I were looking for a treat in San Mateo Sunday afternoon and found Delights by Lisa Bakery. (They don't front 25th -- they're in a courtyard in the back.) We were expecting a display filled with cupcakes and treats. We found a display with only 9 cupcakes (cupcakes, not flavors) and a handful of eclairs. We bought some of each; the cupcakes (we tried chocolate, coconut, and orange sherbet flavors) were very ordinary. The eclair was better than the cupcakes, with a nice pastry texture, but was pretty forgettable. The cupcakes differed only by frosting; the bodies were the same "yellow birthday cake" sort of cake, were dry, and were all the same neutral flavor. And the frosting was too much, especially on the coconut - it was like eating butter and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Maybe they're better for custom baked goods? I don't expect to return here as a walk-in for an afternoon treat, though. read more

I love supporting local independent companies, so was glad to find this bakery on 25th Avenue in San Mateo. I was cooking a birthday dinner for my mom and was looking for a cake. I asked Lisa if she bakes any sugar free items as mom has diabetes. She said 'yes', using a whip cream (instead of frosting) and she uses a sugar substitute. We choose a Lemon curd cake with the whip cream topping. (She noted that the cake is not 100% sugar free.) It was a big hit at mom's birthday dinner. The cake was light, moist, and not too sweet. The price was a bit on the high side, but I figured it was well worth it considering the quality and taste. Lisa was wonderful. It was my friend's birthday and at the last minute I offered to help her husband with the cake. I went with mini cupcakes. Chocolate with chocolate, vanilla with vanilla and lemon cake with vanilla. Lisa handled my last minute request with ease and the cupcakes were delicious. The vanilla on vanilla was the crowd favorite but they were all devoured. My daughter especially liked the signed Chef Duff jacket displayed on the wall. read more

First let me say, Lisa is such a sweet lady and very helpful. I even appreciate the fact that she delivered our cake to the baby shower as I had no time to pick it up. Also my guest, loved the taste of the cake, as did I. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed in how the cake turned out (appearance wise). The sizing was correct, 8 by 8 for both blocks, but it looked nothing like the photo I had given her. The pink fondant was the exact shade I wanted but the gold trimming was more yellow than gold. The lettering on the blocks, "M.A.M" for my daughters initials, were entirely too small. As you can see the letters in my example photo actually filled the blocks just as real childrens blocks do. Childrens letter blocks were exactly what I wanted my cake to look like, just with different colors. The "gold" fondant border was coming off in no time. Cutting the cake, as instructed by Lisa before hand, was causing it to completely crumble. So no neat slices. We also asked for a rattle with a bow to be constructed on the side of the cake and not only was it abnormally small, it looked nothing like a rattle at all.. just a ball with a stick coming out of it. And the bow was like the size of a nickle. Not sure what happened with my cake, as her other cake photos look pretty impressive. Was not worth $400. read more

Today I went to a cake place 2 stores down and they couldn't make my sons birthday cake because they say they needed 3 weeks notice to make a TINY cake. so I walked down to Delights by Lisa and asked if she could do it. My sons 1st birthday is 10 days away. I wanted a 8' fondant and butter cream cake. not too much to ask.. she said yes!!! i was thrilled. i didn't want to have to resort to a safeway cake for my sons 1st birthday. shes going to make a Dr. Seuss cake which might take a bit of time but she took on the challenge knowing shes only got 10 days and tons of orders ahead of me. i am thankful and grateful to have found such a nice and hard working lady!!! read more
