I know this bakery is part of a chain, but honestly, this location gave me one of the best bakery experiences I've had. From the phone call to placing the order, the customer service was excellent. The staff took their time answering my questions about the cake design and size, and I never felt rushed. Big thanks to the lady who helped me over the phone and especially to the baker who made the cake. She did an amazing job, and the cake turned out beautiful exactly as requested. They have a large selection of breads, pastries, and cake designs, and they're happy to customize cakes if you have your own ideas. The bakery also looked clean and organized. I also liked that they displayed photos and prices of the pastries on the wall, which made ordering easy. Most importantly, the cake was delicious. The fruits tasted fresh, and the cream was light, fresh, and not overly sweet. Everything was balanced perfectly. Love this place for Chinese breads. We always get the shredded pork rolls (with and without cream) and red bean bread. You'll need to purchase 8 breads for them to pack in a box, otherwise they pack in bags. There also is no menu, so you'll need to point for them to pack what you want. My family and I have been loyal customers of this bakery for many years. We buy your steamed buns and bread almost every morning, so it's disappointing to have such an unpleasant experience at a place we've supported for so long. Yesterday, the cashier spoke to me in a rude and impatient tone when asking what I wanted to order. When she handed me my change, she carelessly tossed the coins onto the counter, and they ended up scattered everywhere. There was no courtesy or professionalism at all. I also noticed that she spoke harshly to the young child in front of me, which was upsetting to witness. This wasn't the first disappointing experience. On a previous visit, my mother was asked to buy a steamed bun after a staff member accidentally dropped it on the floor. That is completely unacceptable and raises concerns about both customer service and food hygiene. As long-time customers, we expect to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Good food is important, but so is the way customers are treated. I'm not really sure what the hype is about this one. The price is good and the pastries were okay but it just doesn't compete with some of the other bakeries. It looks like they went with the covid restrictions and just stuck with them since it is only pickup now and the area to order is really tiny. There isn't a spot to see the menu from the outside so we had to look at the menu from the tiny pickup area inside and had to step away any time another customer came in to order since we were in the way when we were deciding. Most of the options were bread or cakes so we just went with a sweet roll and a egg tart. While they were cheaper than some of the other bakeries, there really wasn't much to them and they didn't seem worth the price. The roll was just a semi sweet bread and the egg tart was an odd mix of sweet and savory. The staff wasn't unfriendly but wasn't friendly either and the layout made it hard to ask questions. Do not ever come here! I ordered a cake for pickup, asking for it to be ready by 10am. I arrived to pick it up at around noon, and the employee told me she gave my cake to someone else because I didn't pick it up at 10am. I had already paid at this point, and was refused a refund. She then tried to frost a cake for me on the spot as a replacement, which obviously was not going to look presentable as it needs to chill in the fridge for hours before purchase. Additionally, I heard from a friend that she gave a $20 bill to the cashier, and the cashier insisted that she gave her a $5 bill or a $10 bill. My friend obviously asked to have the change back for the $20, and said they can look at the cameras together if she doesn't believe her. The cashier then refused. read more

I ordered my mom's bday cake here and was quite impressed. Not only was it beautifully decorated with fresh fruits and flowers but the taste was so good that she said, it's not too sweet, IYKYK! What impressed me the most however was the packaging of this 12 inch round cake. They literally put it in a museum casing. I was so blown away when they handed it to me that I had to laugh out loud. There were plenty items in stock when I went around lunch time on the weekend. No wait at all for my group's order of 16 pork sung rolls :) This bakery is for takeout only, no chairs/tables available to customers and only a small lobby area (that would comfortably fit about 6 people) for people to order. One was a chestnut, strawberry mango mousse & fruit cake decorated with cute things and a Hello Kitty mini figurine. I opted for the Hello Kitty fruit cake. I really want to give 2 stars because whenever I call, they never pick up, but they're really nice in person. So I was only able to go by what they had in the fridge. My family likes the fruit cake, it was smooth & creamy. The fruit inside was sweet, mix of strawberry; mango; melon and kiwi. Wowza! Bumped into this delightful (Chinese) bakery while window shopping and pretty much by accident. It sits on the corner of Vallejo & Stockton Streets. Pretty much on the imaginary border separating the Chinatown & North Beach sections of San Francisco. The cakes and various baked confectionaries inside the store are fabulous. And all priced very attractively in consideration. Sorry, no photos of this one, but I bought the Coconut Cake Roll, which was {$4. Oh so good! Wishing now that I would've ordered more. Ordered the mango cake for my partner's birthday. Everyone was impressed with how beautiful the cake was. The sweetness level was perfect for an Asian palette, although there was a bit too much cream for my taste. The first time we went, they ran out of all buns by ~4:30pm except BBQ pork buns, which typically I wouldn't complain about, but the pork itself was a little sweeter than expected. Same for the scallion hot dog bun, which we got on a second visit. That said, I'll still plan to get cakes & buns next time I'm nearby! So first of all, a clarification: they sell bakery items such as egg tarts and bread buns, but not Cantonese dim sum (shrimp dumplings, siu mai, etc). There seem to be reviews of the dim sum place down the block that are incorrectly placed on Yelp for this bakery. I really love the baked goods here, especially the seaweed pork sung buns. For some reason, the other locations of Fancy Wheat Field Bakeries do not sell the seaweed buns I love, only this one? (Or maybe they always ran out when I got there). It's crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and filled with seaweed, pork sung, and sesame. The smell is amazing. I toast them at 275F for 12 minutes to get perfectly toasted, warm buns at home. Their egg tarts are okay, not as flakey of a crust as the famous Golden Gate Bakery in Chinatown. With Covid restrictions, they require masks and don't let people grab their own baked goods (which I really appreciate... cuz who knows where people's hands have been). You order behind a plastic wall, and they hand you a nicely packed box with what you ordered. Line was kind of long and inefficient, I had to wait 10+ minutes. read more

Came here to buy some white bread to make turkey sandwiches and the lady gave me a loaf and said it was white bread. I purchased it, walked out to look at the bread and noticed it's not even white bread, it's wheat bread with some damn raisins. I'm not eating my turkey sandwiches with raisins hell nah. It hasn't even been 15 seconds before I went back in to ask for exchange to white bread. Now the lady said she can't do anything about it if i already exited the establishment. The cake is soft and fluffy, with smooth and delicate whipped cream, topped with lots of beautifully arranged fresh fruit. My favorite part is the diced fruit their put between the layers. The packaging is so nice, and they even give you a small set of utensils with a cake cutter, forks, and small plates. I placed an order in advance over the phone, which was very easy, but you can also order items in store if they are available. A few things we noticed, their pineapple buns are okay if you've never had Pineapple King bakery buns in the Sunset or HK itself but if you have, you'll be disappointed by these. Their baked bbq pork buns are nothing to write home about. Too much bun to pork ratio and the bbq pork seasoning was bland at best. We didn't finish it. The custard bun was okay but we had another one down the street from Ming Hui and liked that one much better.
