We went to a small business to support and this cake place had good reviews. Unfortunately we were grossly overcharged for very small 10 inch cake. Our daughter turned 22 and wanted a marvel themed cake. We had to pay in full before even viewing it. My daughter is very kind and not one to comment negatively but she knew how much we were charged. A 10 inch cake for just under $300. Our daughter said it looked cute but "rough." I asked her to let me know how it tasted. She said it barely had any frosting and was very dry. I can understand upcharging for an artisan cake. We did not get a quality cake in design or taste. It looked homemade but not quality homemade. I cannot believe I was able to find this place in such a short amount of time. I had a last minute party and needed to purchase a cake ASAP. I only had 3 days before the party. What made this hard was the fact that it needed to be vegan. I was emailing every bakery place I could find that was vegan near my area. There wasn't really much luck with too short of a notice. Parts of the sponge had a dried out, cardboard-y texture, that even my sugar-loving daughter didn't like. Also, when we cut into the cake, the ice cream pooled out, almost entirely melted. This was despite putting the cake straight into the freezer for an hour after our arrival home/before the party, as instructed. I guess Mikka must have been decorating the cake right before pickup. This individual has very poor business practices. My fiancé had requested a quote and paid a deposit. However, there was no contract, nor was there mention of what happens should we change our minds. When my fiancé informed me of the cost for a small cake (that serves only 4) and 2 dozen cupcakes, I felt it was exorbitant especially when other reputable bakeries charge less than half for a comparable product. When my fiancé requested she cancel the order (2 weeks before the delivery date), she declined to refund the money stating she had already purchased the flowers and supplies. ($240+ for marigolds and flour/sweetener?! Mind you that $240 is the 50% deposit!) I requested an itemized receipt, and she replied, "that's a service I don't provide". She offered a credit for another cake (seriously? we've already determined that the service is overpriced). She has since ignored our messages and ignored a letter from our attorney requesting a refund. UPDATE: We have reported this business to the Better Business Bureau. AVOID this business. read more
