I picked up a savory beef Wellington and a sweet pain suisse pastry, which I really enjoyed together. Not a long wait during a weekday morning, and there are seats indoors and outdoors for you to relax and enjoy the start to your day. Visited a Saturday afternoon, there were a few folks around, but not busy at all. I was in and out in around 10-15minute. I ordered a butter croissant and a cappuccino. Overall, I would say both were ok. The croissant was fresh, but less buttery and flaky than what I expect from a croissant. The coffee was a bit acidic, but still good. If you're like me, when you look into a bakery case full of fine pastries, you can't really control yourself. So take my advice: Walk to Bernal Basket. The walk up that hill will burn so many calories you'll be able to convince yourself it's ok. This place is legit. The hype is real. And it's as charming as the rest of the neighborhood. The star is the brioche-y cinnamon roll. Intense cinnamon flavor and plenty of fluffy cream cheese frosting. Definitely a lighter dough than most cinnamon rolls but such a strong flavor profile = excellent pastry experience! Also had an apple cider donut. Very good. Not quite the crunchy version directly from a traditional orchard but best in SF, it's a safe bet. Then the third thing I ordered was a Pain Suisse. It was ok. Really wish it had more filling. It tasted more like a croissant with a hint of chocolate and custard. Would have preferred a smaller pastry to make the proportions work better. It was pretty busy but I found space in the parklet and hung out for a while. They actually have heaters if it's cold. Nice touch. So glad to have another cute local bakery on Cortland! They sell sandwiches, breads, and of course various savory and sweet baked goods. My favorites are the ham & cheese croissant (pro tip: reheat in your air fryer!) and the seasonal crostock, which is a croissant dough based pastry with jam or other toppings. When I visited most recently, the crostock had fuyu persimmon and pomegranate seeds, but it's always changing. Make sure to stop by if you're looking for a quick treat! read more

Been following this place on social media for a few months now ever since they opened in Bernal Heights - their sandwiches look so picturesque. We decided on the following: - PROSCIUTTO STRACCIATELLA: 3/5 - bread was tough and tasted a bit stale, prosciutto and cheese and stone fruit filling was tasty but overall was a bit disappointed. Looked better than it tasted - Tiramisu: 2/5 - soggy mess, good strong flavors though - Whole wheat bread: 3/5 - dense, was just ok - pain suisse au chocolat: 4/5 - our favorite of everything we ordered, tasty chocolate pieces, dessert itself was not as flaky but still very good Wouldn't go out of our way for this place again but if we're around next time might try their hot sandwiches. read more

i was looking for pastries and found this place on yelp. at 10am sunday, the store was small and crowded with a huge glass case of pastries and bread lining the shelves behind the counter. the line moved quickly and i got an apple cider donut and a pain suisse. the donut was DELICIOUS! i was expecting it to be somewhat dry and dense from past experience but it was nicely moist, spongy, and the sugar on the outside gave a subtle crunch. the spices weren't overwhelming either. i tried the pain suisse much later and it was underwhelming and a little dry, probably from sitting too long. i'll come back for more donuts for shore!! read more

Cute little spot next to United Dumplings. Came in to try the cinnamon roll but they were out so settled for a peanut butter cookie which was perfectly moist and flavorful without being too sweet. The staff were helpful in finding an alternative and threw in an extra cookie since it was nearing closing time. Will be back to try more soon! read more

The bread smells so good in here! The sandwich we got was substantial and delicious. The bread looked like it would be hard, but it is nice and toasty. A small hiccup when receiving the sandwich as the workers forgot about wrapping the sandwich and completing the order. Cool new bakery in Bernal with friendly staff. We got the BEC croissant and the scallion scroll. The BEC isn't quite what one would expect. It has a premade egg square and it's topped with arugula. There's also salsa that tastes like a lemon vinaigrette. It's an interesting take, but I'd still prefer a regular breakfast sandwich that has a fried egg or omelette on it. They have sour dough loaves for $9 (perfect for homemade sandwiches), yummy chocolate chip cookies ($3 each), and a hot and gooey Croque Monsieur ($12). They are still working out their logistical kinks -- I had to repeat my order three times which they eventually still got wrong but gave me a free cookie out of it -- but I respect the quality of their baked goods and the grind it takes to open up a passion project. We love Bernal Basket. It's become a special weekend ritual for us, and everything we've tried has always been delicious. It's clear a lot of care goes into the food, and it's something we genuinely look forward to. Unfortunately, our most recent visit left us disappointed. We asked a simple question at the counter--just wondering whether a certain pastry was better served cold or warm, and if it could be heated up. The staff member responded with attitude, didn't seem interested in helping, and just stared at us, making the interaction feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable. We decided to have our pastry warm, but while waiting, we overheard that same staff member--along with a couple others--mocking our question and laughing about it right in front of us. It felt really unprofessional and honestly, kind of mean-spirited. The energy from the staff this time around was disappointing and left a sour note on what's usually a lovely experience. read more

Wonderful variety of bread however it didn't last as long as other freshly baked bread from other bakeries - - it spoiled very quickly. The pastry (sweet and savory) I purchased were just okay.
