Just finished lunch at Del's Hideout in Del Cerro. Cleverly named as it's a local eatery hidden in a residential area off the 8 freeway. We ordered the 24 hour Buffalo wings, TJ burger, fish and chips and the breaded crispy chicken tenders with fries and water. No beers for us today. Our tab came out to $87 after the 18% tip and the 5% surcharge they add to tables. This was my first time having smoked chicken wings. We ordered the Buffalo flavor, while I could see sauce on my wings they weren't drenched or wet. Perhaps it's to preserve that crispyness they worked so hard to achieve after carefully smoking it for 24 hours. Hats off to the cooks and kitchen staff who work so hard to make the food, smoking food for 24 hours is no easy task! While I usually don't like fish or fish and chips. I liked the breading of the cod and the tartar sauce it came with. I had a few bites but my entree was the TJ burger. I love Mexican food + I was craving a burger so the two married together was nice. Inside was a large smoked Anaheim chili pepper and a creamy mayo sauce. It was not spicy despite that there were intimidating looking seeds on the pepper. It was delicious in combination with the toasted brioche bun. I was slightly turned off by the yellow lettuce that came with it. My TJ burger came with the option of fries or I could pay $2 extra to upgrade it Mac and cheese. Which was great because I wanted to try the Mac but did not need a large appetizer portion. The panko crumbs added a nice crunch to the mac noodles. The cheese never got dry and hard as it was a cream base. I enjoyed it. Del's Hideout is a great location to hangout and watch sports. There are TVs all over and visible from some parts of the patio. We had one right above our table outside. This is a random comment but I felt like the patio was tight. Not a lot of walkway if you're sitting along the perimeter of the space but it's next to a kids play area that is covered. Sure, it's delicious but there's nothing petite going on here so come with a game plan to tackle the gargantuan portions. Del's slings BBQ, burgers and beers with a measure of expertise. Even though you don't NEED it, starting with mac & cheese or loaded fries is always a good call but share if you can otherwise you'll fill up before the main event. While the burgers are impressive in their own right, yours truly always opts for the BBQ tray....and I do mean tray, your food comes served on a full on baking sheet. You can choose between one or two meats (Team Brisket, all day), two sides (bacon potato salad and onion rings for me), Texas toast and homemade pickles. It's great food and I've attempted it several times but have yet to be able to finish it in one sitting. Because I'm already stuffed and 100% don't need it, I usually get a dessert too. We each ordered the 'Party Fowl' Sandwich with buffalo sauce and a side of onion rings. At that time, I was able to finish my sandwich! And we got cheap ice cream cones afterward) The interior looked the same. Bright bold colors with a rustic wooden theme throughout. Many tables inside could hold groups of 2-3, groups of 4, and groups of 6 or more. They even had seating outdoors! It's a big restaurant which filled up fast when we went. They even had a small section upon entering where there was a miniature "arcade," basically a few games. I think you needed to put money in though. Upon walking through the front doors, we were greeted with a sign to wait to be seated. And there was a decent-sized bar in front too. The vibes in here were really nice, I LOVEDD the fact they played Daughtry! Such a throwback. And I'm thinking if they play this band, they ought to play Linkin Park, and maybeee in the future~ Nothing But Thieves??? The blonde lady sat us down with the menus and the guy behind the bar came forward to take our orders. (This was our first meal of the day--) We told him our order and he mentions, it's a LOT of food. And kindly mentioned what we could do to still include the onion rings and not get the full serving of 12 pieces since they are MASSIVE. I'm honestly glad he said that because when those onion rings came out-- I had to cut them into three pieces and only ate a total of 2 out of the 6, I think. The rings were two inches thick and so wide, they just looked unreal. I've never seen an onion as big as those slices were. The service here was really great! The server checked up on us seeing how the food was, if we wanted water refills, etc. I ordered the party fowl sandwich again but with the spicy BBQ and a side of coleslaw. The party fowl is a 2 chicken tender sandwich. The chicken tenders were big! I could have just gone with one. I liked the pickles on the sandwich although I wish it was a thicker cut and that they didn't add the mustard seeds to the bun (textural thing, I don't like mustard seeds). The spicy BBQ was amazing! Spicy but still had the BBQ flavor. I think this sandwich could be shared between two people! Also, the coleslaw had an overpowering flavor of carrots and was a bit too sweet for me. I recommend adding the hot sauce they have available in the bins and then adding it to the chicken sandwich. To share, my brother and I ordered an appetizer of 'BBQ Loaded Fries' which were topped with pickled red onions and jalapenos. We weren't big fans of those toppings but it sure did make the tray look very appetizing. I think that it was the perfect amount of fries and pulled pork, the queso sauce was incredible and so smooth! I loved that it wasn't a yellow queso but a white one. My brother ordered the 'Q Burger' and absolutely demolished it. It had: pulled pork, American cheese, onion strings, bbq, lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles. Overall, a delicious lunch! We also got to choose three sides; we went with the street corn, collared greens and potato salad. All that food was cheaper than us getting individual meals, and with my appetite not at full strength, it just made sense to split, knowing my husband would end up with the majority of the food on the plate.
