Incredible hospitality and old-school diner vibes. Had a delicious burger and the ice cream was fantastic

We continue to want Delsa's to be just a great place to go, but it continues to fall short. Sorry to say it. The Good The ice cream, of course. The Meh Overall employee / work layout seems confused with people going back and forth. The Bad We watched multiple examples of gloved employees grabbing and handling cash with their gloves and then using the ice cream scoops. Other than not using bare hands, their use of gloves was meaningless in both visits this summer. The 2nd time we walked over for some ice cream, my dining partner went into the bathroom before ordering, and came out and said that it was so disgusting we were leaving. She couldn't imagine seeing that bathroom and watching the food handling practices. Maybe we'll stop in again next year. read more

It's nearly 100 degrees today so it was only fitting to go get a scoop of ice cream. We were on the side of town where Delsa's is so it's only common sense to stop in to get a big helping of ice cream. It was busy today. As to be expected since it's so hot out. There were two girls working behind the counter today. They were getting a party of 5 taken care of. While they were busy my neice and I checked out the list of options. I like the variety of flavors besides your classics. They had a Superman, Rick and Mortey, banana, avocado and roasted sweet potato and marshmallow just to name a few. I grabbed a half scoop of the cherry and my neice got a single scoop of your classic strawberry. The scoop of strawberry was huge! I always get a kid's portion due to my fluid restriction but I was surprised at how big a single was. My neice enjoyed a good half of it and plans in finishing the rest after dinner tonight. My cherry ice cream was really good! I was hoping for a dairy free option but there wasn't any. My portion was perfect! I got enough to be happy but not too much. It was sweet, creamy and had little bits of cherry in it. I really enjoyed my flavor of choice today. I haven't had a bad experience at this joint. Every time we come the food and ice cream is always on point. And the staff is consistently nice! It's hard not to support a small local business like Delsa's. read more

The food was alright, but the service was really bad. The waiter saw us maybe 3 times total for the bare minimum and we felt like we were forgotten. When we got to the front to get ice cream the people working were just sitting on their phones. Definitely not worth the money spent. I'm sad because usually it's great but the people serving today were not good. read more

Friendly service. When my companion and I walked in we were greeted with a smile and asked if we wanted to sample anything. You've heard the phrase go big or go home? That doesn't apply here. Just a plain old banana split. Nothing special. They forgot the nuts. No fudge. They used Hershey's chocolate syrup. Ran out of cherry. I asked if they can use caramel. Put just a Hint if it. Put the whipped cream then the toppings. I think that's the wrong way. They people working behind the counter were teenagers. All walking around super slow looking lost. Getting in each others way. I used to love Delsa's but I have recently heard multiple accounts from employees that the conditions here are very unhealthy. They said there was mold everywhere, surfaces not cleaned and that the water they dip the scoops into to clean and make it easier to scoop does not get changed often so it just builds up mold and gunk. You can check the Central District Health reports yourself online. There are also new owners who have let the food quality and service dip. I won't go here anymore. read more

Don't know nuthin' about Delsa's mothership parlour on Ustick but when I visited for the first time today Delsa's ice cream stand in the parking lot next to Meridian located Wagner Farm stand barn, the nice young woman scooping up the YUMMY huckleberry ice cream said ice creams sold there are made at this Ustick location. So there you go. And although I am a skeptic of national news periodicals that produce "best of eats lists", such as the USA Today list that apparently named Delsa's one of the best ice cream parlours in the United States, while I can't attest to the Ustick located parlour, I can say their ice cream as enjoyed from the stand at Wagner's barn retail lot is dee-lucious. This stand had at least a couple of dozen ice creams available to have scooped into cup or cone and also makes milkshakes it seems. The husband of the farm stand helper was raving about his lemon custard selection. I felt similarly enthusiastic for the huckleberry. A big drawback of this location is the ice cream stand is surrounded by deep, big scale gravel. Which means people with mobility disabilities - and that includes me as I have MS - cannot get across the gravel to get to the stand. That is not the responsibility of Delsa's to fix, but of the Wagner folks. This Farm Barn is a retail sales operation and they are required to have firm, stable and slip resistant surface for so all people can have equal access. That isn't an issue for the working part of the farm. It is an issue of code and law compliance for a retail sales location like this. BTW, parents with strollers will have the same difficulty as people with mobility limits. Fortunately, I had a "go fetch" helper in the form of my hubby to pick up the ice cream for me. I shared it with him as a reward. Next time he says he wants his own and he's not even an ice cream eater most of the time. It was that good. read more

The hook, line, and sinker for me at Delsa's is the...... ice cream.... duh!! If you like the weird, wacky, original, unusual, interesting, and even the norm ice cream- this place is for you. A wall of options stands out as you walk into the cozy spot on U Stick and then your biggest problem is choosing just one.... or two.... or maybe three.... or maybe you need one of each. (You might leave full because there are so many options.) Play-dough is my favorite! A blast of who knows what flavors in a waffle cone-yes! You can find a spot outside in the summer/fall/spring and inside during the cooler or rainier days. Options. Order from their food menu, the fries are ok, the tots are yum. The food is not bad but like I said, I come here for the ice cream. You can get your traditional grill foods. Lots of options! Parking is basically street parking but has never been an issue for me. On our trip to Boise, we stopped at this Ice cream parlor. We had a banana split and a sundae. It has a cute diner vibe inside. Good selection of ice cream with some inventive flavors. Saturday (7/6/24) was the first time I took my girlfriend here for ice cream. The whole place and style of it was pretty cool like a 50s diner which we liked. Then we sampled some of the ice cream flavors, not bad of selection. We ordered a sample plate of the ice cream and it was good yet the flavor was subtle. We came back the next day for lunch and we'll it was weird the service that was provide from the girls, we came in and we got stared at by the girls working and one of them was rude to me didn't understand why. DELSA'S HOME MADE ICE CREAM is open during winter, so I stopped to get some fish and chips. When we walked in, the cashier was on the phone. Once she got off, you would think that she would greet us or knowledge that we were there. Another customer walked in as well. But no, she didn't do that she walked away and went to talk to the young cook, and she stayed there talking to him for a good 2 minutes. Honestly, I almost walked out, but I was already there, so she came back and said.. "What can I get you?" I ordered, and I asked about her soups, and she didn't even know what the soup was she asked the cook, and he wasn't too sure either she said some kind of spicy chicken. I paid and we waited for our food we order to go. The other customer ordered as well, and wow, she can definitely talk. Well, this is not the customer service I have received in the past. My nephew wanted some ice cream, and he was trying to get her attention multiple times.. my poor 5 year old nephew kept saying, "Excuse me, can I... and she wouldn't even stop to look at him. As much as I love Delsa's burgers, fries and ice cream, I am disappointed that during the entire pandemic the owners and staff have made no real attempt to provide social distance seating and fail to wear masks. They opened early before Phase 2 allowed restaurants to start providing seated dining, and it appears at no time added any special cleaning procedures to ensure public safety. While most businesses are struggling to meet the requirements of the state to keep their patrons and staff safe but are making efforts so they can remain open, Delsa's owners here and at the Capri don't seem to believe that they have to abide. Some wear plastic gloves but make no effort to put any type of mask on. I'm going to frequent businesses that are making the effort for all other businesses to stay open. read more

First visit to Delsa's and got 2 regular burgers and 2 fries. $21+. The food was good and we would go again but turns out they automatically add the tip! Last I remember gratuity means "something given voluntarily". One usually tips according to good service rendered which is what I prefer. Taking my money presumptuously however goes against my grain. Somehow this seems illegal to me. (I'll be checking into that). I should have at least been told up front, just as a courtesy, instead of the surprise. Ice cream was good, we had a sundae without a banana? It had everything else on it. whatever you do don't ask for Lavendar lemonade. I saw it on the menu and was so looking forward to trying that, and my blonde haired food server told us they didn't have it and I was disappointed, and said so. And since then my husband and my plate were thrown down in front of is. bad attitude, the other servers were fine, blonde haired teenager that "got it", had so much bad attitude I remembered it for weeks after our visit. The burgers actually tasted good. You don't teach your customers manners by giving bad manners yourself. It's ok for your customer to say, oh that's too bad you don't have, so and so. This is my first bad review in years. Kinda sad. The owner seems to try hard by employing teenagers and youngsters, good for kids to learn how to work. Great burger/ice cream spot. I had the black and blue burger, and it absolutely delivered. The onion rings were phenomenal as well. I wasn't as impressed by the curly fries, but that's ok, probably means they were healthier than I'm used to and had less salt. My friends loved their chocolate fudge milkshakes. I loved my strawberry milkshake. And the huckleberry milkshake was pretty great too. I didn't try any actual ice cream, and I doubt I'll ever try their "Pickle Rick" flavor, but I'll be happy to come enjoy some in the future. Yes to this ice cream! I got the chocolate peanut butter, and there were literal peanut butter chunks in it. They have a bunch of flavors, and it's delicious. We will definitely be back to try the burgers and things too. It's just a cute little diner with a nice patio for a nice day. We dropped by Delsa's in the middle of the afternoon because my wife and I both wanted an ice cream. We had been regulars at Delsa's long ago, when our kids were little, way back when the original owners were running the place. This was the first time we had been there in a long, long time, and we were surprised to see all the changes. The atmosphere there is very fun, and they've done a good job at capturing the feel of the old-school ice cream parlor long ago. The staff is super friendly, and the service was great. This is a great place for families, couples, or maybe even a lunch break from work. Besides the original indoor dining area, there is outdoor seating in the front, and there was seating area in the back. We saw a sign that stated that they would start having live music soon, so this could perhaps be a fun place to hang out in the summer. We enjoyed our ice cream, as it was super tastey, and they are very generous with their portions. We did not partake in any food there (yet), but we will have to return to sample the burgers & fries, as they did look good. Also, Delsa's advertises that they have started serving breakfast, so we'll have to give that a try too. My only comment about the ice cream was that I wish it was colder, so we didn't need to eat it so fast. It was delicious though, and it was fun to visit Delsa's again after many years. First time trying Delsa's for lunch. A large group of us showed up from a car club and since we outgrew the back patio about half of the group went to the front patio. Not only was the food very tasty, I thought the wait staff handled the number of people coming and going very well. Best Local Ice Cream shop in Boise!! I had the Strawberry Ice Cream with Fish and Chips and everything was amazing!!

The ice cream? Awesome! Interior space was also a nice upgrade from what it was before... it has a fun 50's style seating area and the string lights outside are inviting. They had it tastefully decorated for Halloween which is great! The food and service were both just okay (even though our waitress was nice enough), lots of fried foods and fries that were "meh". The Italian wedding soup was so full of pasta beads that it was hard to consider it "soup" and honestly the fry sauce (an Idaho creation) was so watery that it turned into a lake on my plate. Old diner style plates actually fit the type of food served so was totally appropriate in that sense. So here's where they shine. Ice cream. The flavors are SO GOOD! I got to enjoy the "pumpkin spice" this evening and my bf had the "Bailey's" with actual alcohol in it (yes they carded him lol) which was creamy and delicious. Another stand out flavor is the lemon and I'm definitely going to try the lavender next time. You'll also find a "beer" flavor on the menu and yes, bring along your ID for this one because it also contains alcohol. As an ice cream parlor, this place is awesome! If you're hungry for a great meal I'd probably go elsewhere. But this is a great local staple! read more

I showed up at 7:10 and ordered a cheeseburger (they close at eight). Our kitchen is closed. We are busy. I counted 7 tickets on the wheel. They might have had more, not sure. Still though. Dropped in Saturday 5:30 PM for dinner. Three workers behind counter. One couple in front of us that was being waited on by one of the behind counter team members. Not a single acknowledgment that we were even in the store. After waiting what seemed like forever, but most likely 3-4 mins and still no acknowledgment or even the two workers doing nothing but joking around with each other, we decided to leave. Ate lunch there yesterday. I had minestrone soup with finger steaks and tots. I think the finger steaks can hold their own against any in the area. My wife had a great looking and tasting burger.
