My team decided last minute to have brunch and there were 11 of us. Our waiter was so accommodating and nice and warned us they also had a 16 top so food might be slow and I was totally ok with it. I think the drinks were excellent but the food was just ok. They brought our ranch when the menu said aioli (which was a near miss with my dairy allergy). This very much seems like a neighborhood spot and the bar is where all the socializing happens. The bartenders were friendly and chatting with the regulars throughout. Was looking for a spot to watch Thursday night football that I had a ton of money on before heading to a snow season hype party nearly by. Found this chill spot on broadway, server was really nice and let me move around different seats in the bar area to get better view of the game. Fun little casual bar at the top of Capitol Hill. I came here for a beverage before an event nearby with some friends and had a good experience. Loved the laidback atmosphere and that it was so spacious with lots of seating options. The bartender was nice and quick and handled the bar by himself well considering there was about fifteen patrons in the bar. I can't speak to the food as I just got a couple of drinks. They have a decent selection of beers and spirits and I was happy with the offerings for what I wanted. All in all a good spot to visit if you're looking for a casual hangout! read more

The oldest diner in the area, smack in the middle of capital hill, this place was crowded and a bit loud. The food was ok but would have benefited from a little longer in the fryer. We stopped in a for a quick bite. We were able to get in, order drinks & appetizers, our main entree' and out, just as quick as a whistle. We opted to try the cauliflower bites on the appetizer menu. This is officially my new favorite bar, tucked directly into the heart of Cap Hill at the end of Broadway! They have great drinks, happy hour specials, TVs for all the major sports games, and two pool tables. It's a great vibe if you're looking for a laid-back but fun evening. The bartenders here are SO awesome and sweet, and they seriously make every visit memorable! I stop in to play pool, and the tables are usually pretty free (or have a max ~30 minute wait)! It's a great spot for an NFL Sunday, since they have all the games going too. The Brussels Sprouts here are SO. DARN. GOOD. The Deluxe is a Capitol Hill institution. Great service by long term staff, reliable and good dishes. Not fancy, always good. Alaska family that visits here, for shopping and sports, request to go Deluxe for salmon (of all things) because the quality and taste is often better here than at home or at downtown seafood locations. Same for fish and chips. I just go for some of the best Cobb and other salads in Seattle. Good tap beer and rotating cider selection. David is the best. read more

I'm a little shocked that the reviews for this spot are all over the place. I came here on a total whim and thought it was great. Super lively staff, they treat everyone as if you are lifelong friends! Mel's Dr. Pepper glazed pulled pork + BBQ mango habanero sauce on the sliders was delectable. The warm brioche bun was also A+! It's a bit divey but the food does not align with that vibe- it's much better. Their menu says something like "it's as fancy as you want it to be" and I think that's a perfect summary of what you get here. read more

Servings were generous! My friend had a burger which he devoured. It was enormous. I had a steak salad with a spicy ranch dressing. The salad was far from boring and was served in what I'd say is one size bellow trough! Definitely not shy with their portion sized. The food is outstanding and so worth the wait. The service is some of the worst I have ever experienced. My partner and I both work in food service, so we understand short staffing and an influx in orders. However, we were ignored for ten minutes as we watched other tables receive their orders. We left, came back, and I had to stare our waiter down before he even came over with a glass of water (again, watched someone else have their order taken AFTER we had come in.) He was slow to take our orders, and quick to come back with a check asking for a tip. The other server? On his phone. Pacing back and forth between FOH and BOH. He helped other tables and the bar, ignored my partner and I as well. I'll be back for the food maybe, hopefully we get different servers :( the atmosphere was gorgeous and so was the food!! read more

This place has a few different things going for it, but it all comes down to a classic vibe. The prices are particularly reasonable for the area. I had nice service both times I visited, despite coming at completely different times. The ambiance is nothing special if you're searching for something trendy, but that in itself is a little different for this neighborhood. They serve standard American fare, particularly burgers - good, with various choices for toppings. Their Wednesday deal on burgers is worth stopping in to try. Their onion rings are really great. They also have a few fun drinks - the juice box/adult Capri sun was fabulous. There's a decent amount of vegetarian options but not as much for vegans. Going here for brunch has a nice, classic feel to it. Their eggs Benedict made me fall in love with eggs Benedict again. Was overcharged. They don't present you any sort of receipt of what you bought server just showed up and told me I owed ___. Talked with my buddy afterwards there was no way either one of us was charged correctly, especially given at least a couple of our drinks were at the supposed happy hour prices. We had to flag down one of the four hyperkinetic, amicable servers to get a menu, order drinks (they had no mint), finally order the main course which was appetizers, Then we had to chase them down and choose a custom tip when the pre-calculated 18% popped up as the lowest amount. Terrible service experience today and I'd make a private complaint to the manager but there seems to be no contact email on the website. Entitled servers who lie to your face about why they can't be bothered to come and take your order or bring your check in a half empty restaurant. Then act like you are audacious to mention it. After mentioning the poor service the bartender flippantly tells me "you know what I'll just get it". I never asked for a free meal and was even going to tip my usual amount even though it wasn't warranted. But it was incredibly rude to have someone act like I was being excessively high maintenance just to want basic wait service. I have been living in Seattle for over 20 years frequenting this restaurant but I won't be going back again if they continue employing rude wait staff. read more

Food was really good, I wish the experience lived up to that as well. Unfortunately this place is understaffed and when the morning rush came in, everything went downhill. My server forgot to bring my boxes and check as requested while continuing to seat customers coming in. This was after I had already sat for close to 20 minutes after finishing eating and waiting for them to come check on me again. Didn't want to be rude and flag down as they were somewhat busy. Once I finally got my boxes and paid, I realized one of my boxes was dirty on the inside... it's just the little the things. In most respects, I'd rate the Deluxe three stars ("A-OK"), but I'm upgrading that to four stars ("Yay! I'm a fan."), mostly because their prices are pretty reasonable, in spite of all the gentrification on Capitol Hill. This place has been there since 1962, which makes it a champion hold-out from old-time Capitol Hill. Anyway, I like the Deluxe well enough that I've been there quite a bit - six times since I started doing Yelp check-ins, and at least 20 times in earlier years (particularly when the Harvard Exit was still a movie theater). I wouldn't keep going to a place I didn't like, and it wouldn't have been there for 56 years if it wasn't good. On the other hand, I don't _love_ the place. Most of my visits since the Harvard Exit movie theater shut down have been for Sunday brunches with friends. We're there for conversation, so it's off our list when it's too noisy. Most of the time, they have their televisions showing sports, but unless it's Seahawks (or possibly some other big events) the sound is off, which is good for conversation people - and possibly disappointing for sports fans. The service is mid-range: usually good, sometimes lacking, and sometimes excellent. Servers typically don't have that magical ability to show up exactly when you need them, but they're fast enough, and never intrusive. Because our brunch group doesn't fit very well into the front section, we're usually seated back in the pool table room, but usually the back room is busy enough that we're not out-of-sight, out-of-mind. They did lose track of our group on one brunch last year, annoying my friends (but I missed that brunch), so sometimes they fall short. On our most recent visit, the music was up a bit loud for our ears, and when I asked them to turn it down a bit, they accommodated us promptly - and that was a big customer service win that helped earn that fourth star. So what about the food? It's almost always good; only rarely great or not-so-good. The breakfast-type food at Sunday brunches is typically pretty basic. It's presented nicely enough, but I'd call it pub-grade food, not chef-grade food. (But again, prices are decent.) One nice point is that they serve either real maple syrup or a really good imitation with their waffles, french toast, pancakes, and the like. What about dinner food? I'm a bit fuzzy about that; I'm not sure I've been there since the Harvard Exit Theater (next door) closed in 2015. But I recall the food being simple and filling. Their menu says their burgers are made from fancy beef, so those may be good stuff, but I rarely eat beef. But if I make it there outside brunch hours, maybe I'll try the chickpea veggie burger I found on the menu while writing this review. read more

Been a customer for over 20 years until July'20, due to a bad long time employee. Luckily that employee is gone for good and I am very glad to be back. There is still a lack of fast, friendly servers, except for two Gentleman. They still play the music WAY TOO LOUD for a family friendly sports bar, however, the food is top notch. The newer permanent Happy Hour Food menu is awesome, they brought desserts back and the cooks are top notch. Pack your patience with the staff and wear ear plugs after 4p, otherwise a Fabulous place with a Fabulous owner! read more

Website says open until 11, as I was walking there to meet friends at 9:30 who already ordered food, I get a text at 9:29 saying that the server just told them kitchen closes at 9:30 so hope they make it. (Without them telling my friends this in the first place.) I get there at 9:31 and the server said "sorry kitchen is closed, no more food" (with an attitude) - Hungry and annoyed, my friends graciously let us have some of theirs, which came at 9:50..... The music was also so loud it was hard to have a conversation, and when one of the people at our table asked if the music could be lowered a little, the server/bartender gave a snarky comment saying "I guess a little" - I live 2 blocks from this place, and after visiting for the first time in a while, I'm reminded why I don't come often. It's like the flavor gods gifted Deluxe with this robust flavorful menu. My faves are: Fried chicken Buffalo salad with ranch or blue cheese (ask for cucumbers because it's yummy) The Diablo Chicken sandwich- please don't take my word for it and go eat it But if you're coming for Brunch- the carnitas Benedict or carnitas fries!!!! I had the fish and chips, fish was okay but chips are delish. The chicken strips someone got were super crispy and delicious. Cool bar / billiard spot in Capitol Hill! The atmosphere is very chill and casual. The menu consists of amazing food. Please consider truffle burger and chicken wings. The fries are extra $2 on your check, but they are crunchier and more delicious than McDonald's French fries, right? The truffle burger is just juicy. Plus, the chicken wings have the Asian touches in them. You can definitely tell the ginger sauce, which is something I would have in my home-made chicken wings. You have the choices of whether sitting at the bar (with a valid ID) or hanging out at the dining area (if you want to get away from the bar). There's also the billiard room, which charges you per hour if you decide to play some pool. The service at the bar was acceptable. I glanced over some reviews, and I noticed some complaints about some servers not coming back to check on the customers but only would approach if they were waved down. I guess I was lucky because I came in at 4 pm on a Thursday, when everyone was still getting off of work. The place was pretty chill, so the servers had the time to walk around and offered better service. The atmosphere would definitely change on a weekend .... I can only imagine. Woohoo! Parking around this area is 4 hours free, so you're having enough time to eat and to chill at the restaurant! You should come to this bar and enjoy some good food on the menu. Deluxe serves up the good bar grub! Well, its a bit better than your average bar fare. Had the American Kobe beef burger which is pretty good. Probably the most outrageously tasty Happy Hour treat is the fried mac and cheese balls which are sooo wrong and yet so irresistable! At $2.75 per order its pretty easy on the wallet. Pulled pork sliders were decent although didn't hold a candle to the fried balls of goodness. The atmosphere is very comfy and inviting and the service has always been fantastic. It is also located in that cute location on Broadway and Roy that has a nexus of other cool little place to hit up (Roy Street coffee and tea, Harvard Exit theater). The grill stays open pretty late (1am) so you can catch some late night eats up on the Hill! read more

I went here during happy hour on a Saturday. It usually gets much more crowded later. They did not have a discernable happy hour menu and the menu I ordered from to begin with was old (no more NY strip steak sandwich) so I just had the cheeseburger and fries. The burgers here are really tasty. Good sized patty with a really good brioche bun. The fries are really good also, I could have had a plated of them. They also have a really great selection of beers on tap and I really liked the fact that the bartender let me try a sip for one I have not had before.
