I saw it on a few YouTube food influencer videos and was really impressed by what I saw. The their staple is their Georgian khachapuri. They're the iconic bread "boats" filled with cheese, butter, egg, and whatever comes along the variety you ordered. TBH, I actually thought they looked like little volcanoes, which is something I figured The Little One would enjoy. What we ordered: - Stroganoff: one of the popular items listed on the yelp page. The beef was rich, succulent and comforting, with a creamy, savory filling. The pickles added a bit of bright, tangy contrast to balance the richness. - Adjaruli, the classic version with cheese, butter, and egg. To me, this seemed like the plainest version, but I figured The little One would be more likely eat this because she hates anything that resembles a sauce or toppings. Both dishes were fantastic. The bread boat sort of reminded me of a pizza crust: crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside, and perfect for tearing off and dipping into the cheesy center. The Little one did especially like the crust since she's a big pizza-crust fan. Surprisingly, getting her to eat the cheese and egg was tougher, as she usually likes those. I guess that's just being a kid? Inconsistent fluctuations of opinions and likings? The Mrs. and I happily finished everything she left behind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is a small, casual spot with self-service kiosks for ordering and open seating. Nothing fancy, but it's efficient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We also appreciated that they had high chairs available, making it easy to visit with a child. We did see other families with kids there too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My only gripes: - once you've submitted your kiosk order, making changes isn't really possible. The staff is so busy going in and out of the kitchen, that you really don't have any opportunity to flag them down. We actually wanted to make one minor change to our order, but by the time I managed to talk to someone about it, she informed me that the order was already being made. - If you order coffee, you need to decide on cream, half-and-half, and sugar ahead of time, seemingly preset amounts. It's entirely prepared in the kitchen, not self serve, and you can't exactly customize to your liking. - Only forks were available. No spoons, no knives. Knives would have been helpful for cutting through the thicker bread crust. Those are very minor complaints, though. The food was excellent, the concept is unique, and the meal was memorable. Entrance is not accessible. There are 2 steps, so it was annoying to get in with a stroller. Once inside, there's just a self-serve kiosk. I had ordered and beeped my card only to find out 10-15mins later that my order didn't go through and I had to reorder. Stopped by here last Sunday for brunch with my daughter. Food was amazing. We had the Stroganoff with an extra yolk. It was very good, I don't like mushroom but I ate it up. We swung by Skalka on a Christmas morning since this was one of the few places that were open. Overall, the ambience was very casual but clean. We didn't see anyone at the reception so we decided to order at the kiosk and seated ourselves. Later, someone came to greet us and informed that our order would take around 15 mins. So found this place on Yelp. Was looking for a breakfast place near our hotel and this place had over 1000 reviews and 4+ stars. Well we arrived at 1130am and the place was EMPTY! Was a little concerned about this and if the place had only 25 reviews we would have gone someplace else. But we trusted Yelp. Ordered 2 different Kahchapuris: Stroganoff and Lobiani and the were both awesome and huge. Well could have ordered one and split it. Luckily they had takeaway boxes. Super filling because of the dough crust. Really recommend eating in as the dough probably isn't as good when it cools down and hardens (assuming it is like pizza dough crust in that respect). Just a great meal. One note, this is a really "low touch" place. I don't think it is a post-Covid thing. I think the staff doesn't speak a lot of English. So you order on a kiosk and the only time I saw anyone was when they delivered our meals. Gladly adding to the chorus of rave reviews about Skalka. I enjoyed the "Stroganoff Boat" which is egg, ground beef, cheese, butter, and pickles in a bread boat (Georgian Khachapuri.) The $17 boat was more than enough food for two people shared, in fact, we couldn't finish it although I kept taking "one more bite!" because it was so tasty. The restaurant is a little bigger than I expected from photos, there are a few tables in the front and a few tables in the back, so getting a seat was no problem. You order at a kiosk (tablet) and listen for your number to be called and I also got a text when my order was ready. They tell you an approximate wait time, and it was pretty accurate for us (15 minutes on a Saturday at almost noon.) You pick up your order at the counter and can get your own water as well, so I'm not sure that you need to tip for self-service like that? The atmosphere was pretty modest in terms of the decor, but I sat in a sunny window with a view of the great wheel, so I really couldn't have been happier. Portions are generous - one serving is big enough to share between two people if you are planning to snack around pike place market afterward. This was our first meal after touching down in Seattle from our flight. My husband and I were both so hungry and we ordered the chicken boat and stroganoff boat. After eating, we both agreed that one of these cheesy, buttery, egg boats could have easily been shared between the two of us. But omigosh, my stroganoff khachapuri was so delicious. I love how they did half regular cheese and half with the stroganoff as I got to taste both separately. I ended up mixing them together and it was amazing. Whatever cheese and seasoning they use is so flavorful and creamy with a little bit of a cheese pull bite to it. The stroganoff was also seasoned well and has tender mushrooms and meat. The bread was soft and warm on the inside. My only complaint is that the outside of the bread is on the dry side. We used the self-serve tablet at the front to order and didn't really interact with the staff other than them calling out our number for our order. I've had this place on my list for the longest time because of their traditional Georgian khachapuri cheese breads that have been making rounds on my Yelp feeds. I tried this with a friend visiting from LA at almost 12pm on a Sunday, and all dine-in seating was already full. There are a ton of tables for 1-2 people scattered around the perimeter, with only a few seating larger groups. The server at the immediate front was very helpful in giving his recommendations and telling us the ingredients for them. You place your orders at a kiosk and can see detailed photos of each item. Since we chose to dine in, we had to wait a bit for a table, and there isn't any dedicated list for those who came in first and want to dine in as well, so we almost had a group of people who ordered 10 minutes after us snag an empty table before we could. This affected our pre dine-in experience since we had to speak up about this and people weren't leaving their tables anytime soon, but there were a lot of people for staff to keep track of. Water, forks, napkins, sauces and even disposable eating gloves are all self-serve at the front counter to the left of the kiosk as well. Both our khachapuri were awesome overall and took about 20 minutes collectively to come out: - I got their stroganoff khachapuri, which has beef and mushroom with pickles, all in a bed of creamy Adjaruli (molten cheese) and topped with an egg yolk. This is very filling for one person especially with the Adjaruli, and the beef is slightly seasoned though not too much to overpower the rest of the dish. Bread is soft and tender, and held the Adjaruli together well. I used the disposable gloves most of the time to rip some bread and dip it into the Adjaruli, and wow is the whole khachapuri a lot already! - Like my khachapuri, the chicken and herbs in my friend's chicken khachapuri wasn't seasoned a whole bunch but pairs well with the Adjaruli. I only had a small bite of the meat here. Overall a pleasant dining experience here with great food that can keep you full for a long time at a decent price too. He admitted they don't know what's going on with their system because this happens often and they don't know where the breakdown is in the system. I had to check with my bank to make sure the transaction didn't go through and once that happened I left. Not going through that again. The fact that they knew there was a problem means he should've probably saw the order go through, as he was standing there while I was ordering on the kiosk. I really like the khachaphuri and would love to give this place a five but a few things unfortunately happened that necessitate a lower rating. I went this past Thursday for lunch and got a chicken khachaphuri and it was delicious! But unfortunately I got food poisoning soon after. Like I was shaking and sweating and had to go get some OTC meds . I tried to think of anything else I ate that could have caused it but I can only pinpoint it to the raw egg used in the khachaphuri. There was an egg recall earlier this month due to Salmonella and I wonder if the unfortunately had one of those batches. So if you eat here and don't want to risk it, order no raw egg yolk... Besides that, I really like the dish that they're known for. The bread boat has the perfect texture, airy and slightly chewy crust and crumb with a charred edge, as if you were reading a solid neopolitan pizza crust but thicker and fluffier. The fillings are sometimes an interesting combination but they work. The first time I came here a few months ago I got the veggie khachaphuri which was delicious but omg it was so salty. Thankfully the one I got earlier this week was just right, not too salty (just food poisoning ). Also I think they get so many orders that it takes a long time to get the food. My first time, I ordered in person and it took a little over thirty minutes to receive my order. Second time, I ordered ahead, arrived at the estimated time and still waited 15 minutes. So just a heads up that you shouldn't expect to get in and out quickly here, if you are thinking this will be a quick lunch spot. Skalka has been on my to check out list for a long time as it seems like this place has been reviewed by almost everyone here in Seattle. The food from the photos that I have seen from other reviews have been inviting, so I was excited to check this place out! I was nearby in the Pike Place market area on a Friday afternoon and it looked like this restaurant wasn't too busy, so I went in and was able to place my order and get seated immediately. There seems to be a lot of nearby paid street side parking when I visited, which was nice, but I can totally see these spots being filled up during rush hour or any comparable busy times. The ordering was self service - there is a ordering kiosk at the front where you tap what you would like and then a receipt is printed for you. There is probably 15ish tables if I had to estimate the seating, and it is a first come first serve basis. There are water cups and tap to the left of the cash register and there also is a singular bathroom in the back. I would say I got my order about 10 minutes after digitally placing it. I got the Stroganoff boat ($18), which was a lightly fried egg on top of a cheesy crust with stroganoff topped by pickles on the other half. I haven't had Georgian food before, so I was excited to see how unique the khachapuri are. I agree with the other reviewers, I think the best description of the crust would be that it is just a standard oven baked pizza crust. The cheese is indulgent, I personally thought it felt filling at first, but it doesn't feel too bad after finishing the boat. The stroganoff has nice tang to it and the acidity of the pickles on top help complement the cheese on the other half. Overall, I would say that the boat was compact and nicely balanced meal - you could eat it on the go, but I think it is best eaten at a leisure pace so you compose a bite with everything. In the end, I think that based on price one boat may not be quite enough for one very hungry individual, but would be decent for sharing between multiple with multiple boats - it does feel more like a tapa giving the price of $18. I felt that the meal would have been better for me personally if it came out hotter, as mine came out a bit lukewarm. If I am ever in the area, I would give the other boat a try. read more

Skalka had about 12 tables for folks to sit and eat at. It felt more modern and bright with the goldenrod accent walls. I came in on a Monday morning at 9:03am and was the third person who ordered. I asked the man at the counter what their most popular dish was, and he recommended the Chicken Boat due to the tomato sauce. He also said it was a little bit spicy (it wasn't). Nonetheless, I was glad I ordered it at the kiosk as he suggested. The chicken boat came out pretty quickly. I think it was about a 5-7 minute wait. In terms of the bread boat, it tasted exactly as what you'd expect: tomato-braised strips of chicken with melted cheese and butter and a runny yolk. I chose to break the yolk and mix the entirety of the ingredients to dip my bread. I have no idea if I did it correctly, but the Spirit led the way. The bread was decent -- your typical flour-based carb with some crunch (but not quite enough). It kind of tasted like a standard pizza crust. The cheese and bread were really good! It describe it as a sort of Georgian version pizza, with a focus on the more natural flavors of the ingredients. I thought the tomato sauce was okay. I almost wish it was slightly sweeter or had a bit more herbs and spice. The standard chicken boat wasn't spicy, so I added about two tablespoons of sriracha to the mix. This made it a more appetizing boat of ooey-goodness for a spice-loving Korean American. It's definitely better when hot, and the portion sizes for one boat seem to be better for two not-so-hungry individuals. Khachapuri! I first had this amazing dish in Vancouver, WA, and have been trying to find places to get it again since. Skalka has been on my list for a couple years, but for whatever reason, I never was able to go when in town. But this time I was alone and decided to check it out! I got there right as it opened and had no problem getting in on a Wednesday morning. It took 10-15 minutes so not too bad. Plenty of searing, even if it were busy. The food was amazing. It can be eaten in your own if you have a big appetite, but I was only able to finish half. Delicious and dippable fun! Definitely worth a try! I was intrigued walking by this place and decided to head in with some friends. I had never had Georgian food nor heard of a khachapuri, but the pictures looked great, and the smell was very enticing. I ordered the chicken option, and it did not disappoint. The bread portion was so soft, fluffy, and went very well with the chicken filling. The chicken ragu was creamy but also had a slight tanginess to it that reminded me a little bit of shakshuka. The space itself is small, with limited street parking nearby. There is a kiosk you can order at and seat yourself while the food is brought to you. Just what I needed on a cold winter weekday! We got here at about 9.15am and ordered a spinach khachapuri through the self service kiosk. Found a charming table overlooking the Seattle great wheel and the water. We received our food within 10 mins. The khachapuri was warm and cheesy, the bread was delicious, easy to tear into and dunk into the cheesy spinach. Not overly salted, just right. Easily shareable between 2 for a hearty breakfast/brunch. Super clean and no wait times. Loved the food and would come here again to try the other flavors! read more
